Coach reflects on Southern Door wrestling's state run

Congratulations to Hailey Veeser who finished fourth in the 138 pound weight class and Nora LeFevre who competed at 100 pounds.  Both wrestled in the first girls individual state wrestling tournament held at the Kohl Center in Madison this weekend.

Hailey won an 8-2 decision in the first round over Natalia Poplawski from New Berlin West/Eisenhower.  Hailey wrestled her style by controlling the tempo from start to finish.  Tensions are always high for the first match as the atmosphere can be overwhelming for some wresters but Hailey handled it very well.  In the second round Hailey faced Emersyn Miller from Poynette.  After giving up the first takedown Hailey fought back to take a commanding lead in the second period. However, Emersyn kept working hard and scored a 2 point reversal and 2 near fall in the closing seconds of the second period to close the gap to 1 point.  Hailey wrestled smart in the third period to hang onto the lead and advance to the semi-finals.  Emerysn would eventually finish in fifth place.

In the semi-final Hailey faced Madalyn Sokoloski from Bonduel.  As we expected Madalyn came fast and hard like she did in every match.  Unfortunately, Hailey couldn't slow her down on her way to the championship.  This was the one match of the season where Hailey's lack of experience in big matches showed.  I know with more time in practice and on the mat we can change that around.  Still a great experience to get to the semi-final and wrestle before a huge crowd on Friday night.

Saturday morning on the consolation side of the bracket Haileys first opponent was Nevaeh Nwachukwu from Saint Croix Falls.  With the score tied Hailey chose bottom in the second period.  From the bottom she set up and executed a perfect Peterson Roll to get the reversal and fall.  In the the third place match Hailey faced Shelly Bullman from Eau Clair North.  The match was close but in the third period Bullman caught up Hailey's arms and was able to earn the fall.

Placing fourth wasn't what she had hoped for but still a great showing.  Especially considering her limited time in practice and limited matches.  Hailey also played basketball this season showing what an exceptional athlete she is.  Can't wait to see what she can do next season.

Nora LeFerve competed in the 100 lb weight class.  Nora started with a nice win by fall over Raven Ringhand from Oregon.  In the second round Nora faced Ava Gardner from Marshfield.  Early in the match Nora was close but didn't secure a takedown which would have changed the complexion of the match.  Unable to get out from the bottom we chose to start neutral in the second and gave up another close takedown.  From there Nora became defensive the rest of the match giving up an 8-0 decision.  We knew it would be a tough match, and Garnder would eventually place third, but giving up the first takedown set the momentum in the wrong direction.  Nora worked hard to fend off Gardner but couldn't get any offense going.  In the consolation round Nora faced Aaliyah Zamora from Osseo Fairchild.  This was one of those matches that if we wrestled 10 times I think the outcome would be different 9 out of 10.  Nora got a little out of position then tried defending a takedown too long and got caught.  Definitely a match we'd like to get another shot at.

Not the tournament she wanted but still a great experience for Nora to see what the competion is and where she needs to improve.  This will fuel the fire and Nora will be back next year.

The boys wrestling tournament has been held in Madison for years and was typically run on 6 mats.  This year two mats were added for the girls division.  This is the first time the WIAA sponsored a separate girls division in Madison.  Girls wrestling is the fastest growing sport in the nation based on participation and I think the added girls division in Wisconsin was a huge success.  The WIAA posted that there were about 440 girls competing in last years state tournament which was held separately in LaCrosse.  This year over 790 girls competed in the tournament series which included the first ever girls sectional qualifier.  Hoping for even more next year with more girls tournaments and possibly even dual teams.

Thank you to everyone who supported our wrestlers this season and over the years including parents, teachers, school administration, past coaches, assistant coaches, family and friends.

Coach Englebert

Southern Door boys finishes season strong with win over NEW Lutheran

The Southern Door Eagles boys' basketball team finished their Packerland Conference title-bearing season with a 76-66 victory over NEW Lutheran Saturday afternoon.

Drew Daoust even exceeded his extremely high offensive output, registering 42 points in the matinee, including 26 in the second half alone thanks in part to four three-pointers. The points were needed as the Eagles trailed the Blazers by one at the break.

Jared Hawkey contributed 12 points, and three others added at least seven points in the victory for the Eagles. Tristian Lynch's 21 points led the Blazers with Griffin Steffel chipping in 16 points and Jack Henschel contributing 14 points.

Eagles search for win to stretch win streak to 18 ahead of postseason

The Southern Door Eagles will look to make it 18 straight wins to close the regular season when they travel to Green Bay to take on the NEW Lutheran Blazers.

Southern Door has not lost since before the winter break, when they fell to Cedarburg to make their record average at 3-3. Since then, their record has shot up to 20-3 and they claimed the second seed in the WIAA Division 3 playoffs. Drew Daoust still remains third in the state in scoring average with 32.4, only 3 points behind the state leader. The Eagles have done it as a team however, with multiple players contributing at multiple levels, including Lance LeGrave who has been a pleasant surprise for the Eagles this season.

For NEW Lutheran, they are coming off of a blowout win over the Sevastopol Pioneers 84-25. The Blazers fell by three the last time these two teams faced off, as they felt the wrath of Drew Daoust’s second highest scoring game of his career, as he finished with 41. Tristian Lynch and Elijah Meerstein have been the models of consistency this season, and the Blazers will look to get that from them one last time this regular season.

Tip from Green Bay is set for 2:00 P.M.

Veeser guranteed medal at state wrestling tournament

Meanwhile, Nora LeFevre followed up her opening round pin with two straight losses to get eliminated in her first trip to state in the first consolation round.

Southern Door's Delfosse reflects on season; school three-point record

The Southern Door Eagles girls basketball team made huge strides in their performance this year compared to last season, and you can bet Ashlyn Delfosse made huge contributions to that.

Southern Door was knocked off by the 9 seeded Algoma Wolves Tuesday night, ending their season in the first round. The Eagles and Delfosse however, are not viewing this as a down year. Southern Door finished the year at 14-11 overall and 9-7 in the Packerland conference, improving those records vastly from the past season.

Delfosse herself improved as well, becoming a stronger three point shooter, improving her percentage by nearly 13%, going from 17.4% her freshman year, to a solid 30.3% this current season. That improvement also helped her increase in points per game this season, going up to 11 points per game.

The real reason that Delfosse has gotten a larger spotlight as of late was the record she broke in their February 16th 67-39 win over NEW Lutheran. For 30 years the record of seven three-pointers made in a game stood tall in Southern Door school history. Although it had been close to being touched multiple times before, it was Delfosse who broke it with eight in a 26 point outburst.

She talked about that feat before the matchup with Algoma Tuesday.

The Eagles will have a bright future ahead of them for the next few seasons, as Delfosse and her teammates grow with their first year in the system of Head Coach Andy Bruess.

Eagles girls falter in second half; fall to Wolves on U-102.1

The Southern Door Eagles were not able to overcome their second half struggles in the WIAA Division 4 Regional Quarterfinals, falling to Algoma 48-34 on U-102.1 Tuesday.

The beginning of the game saw the two teams’ defenses stun each others’ offense, as the game was tied early on at 4-4 with 10:35 remaining in the first half. Allianna Dufek would finally get going in the post for the Eagles, giving them a lead towards the end of the half.

Algoma however would answer before the halftime buzzer, with Brooke Mattson hitting a buzzer beating three as time expired to tie the game up at 18 going into the half.

Allianna Dufek and Sierra Slaby would be the ones to lead the way for the respective teams in scoring in the first.

Algoma would come out firing on all cylinders in the second half, as Ryley Zimmerman and Emily Kirchman would combine for a 12-0 Algoma run, as the Eagles were held scoreless for the first six minutes of the second half.

Southern Door could not establish any post presence in the second half, and would commit some costly turnovers down the stretch leading to the 48-34 loss.

Algoma will travel to #1 Crandon on Friday.

Southern Door boys calm Storm, win Packerland

Southern Door claimed their eighth Packerland Conference boys' basketball title in nine years with a 77-61 victory over Kewaunee on Monday night.

Both teams started slow offensively compared to their second-half outburst where the Eagles outscored the Storm 49-42.

Drew Daoust continues to be an assassin offensively, leading the Eagles with 37 points, 27 of which came in the second half. Jared Hawkey added 18 points and Taylor Schaefer chipped in 11 points in the victory.

For the Storm, Payton Kohnle led the way with 17 points and Thomas Stangel added 15 points. Jordan Lamack and Sawyer Pribek also cracked double figures for the Storm

Eagles girls set for WIAA playoff showdown against Algoma on U 102.1

The Southern Door Eagles girls basketball team will head into the first round of the WIAA playoffs winners of four straight as they prepare for a third matchup against the Algoma Wolves Tuesday.

Southern Door has been able to do it multiple ways in their four game winning streak dating back to February 2nd, bringing their overall record to 14-10 coming into the game. Whether it was holding these Algoma Wolves to 40 points, or blowing out NEW Lutheran and scoring 67 points. The Eagles have also won two nail biters in their streak, beating Kewaunee on a game winner, and surviving Gibraltar 56-52. Allianna Dufek, Payton Gilbertson and Ashlyn Delfosse have been the difference so far this season, and will look to carry that into the postseason.

The Algoma Wolves will enter the matchup with the Eagles at 11-13 overall and winners of two of their last three games. Ryley Zimmerman has been the headliner for the Wolves this season, joined by Emily Kirchman, who has come on strong as of late towards the end of the season. Algoma fought off a tough stretch of games midway through the year, losing six straight from January 16th to February 7th, many of those games being one possession games.

These two teams have matched up twice this season, with the Eagles sitting at 2-0 in the season series with wins of 48-42 in Brussels and 47-40 in Algoma. Allianna Dufek was the leading scorer for the Eagles in both of those games, with Payton Gilbertson in double figures both times as well.

Jacob Nate and Gary Barta will be on the call from Southern Door on U-102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com. The pregame show is set for 6:45 with tip at 7:00 for the WIAA Girls Basketball Level One Playoffs.

Coach reflects on Eagles' sectional wrestling performances

Congratulations to Sectional Champions Nora LeFevre and Hailey Veeser.  Both girls won their brackets and qualified for next week's Individual State Wrestling Tournament.  So exciting to be part of the first State Tournament to have a separate girls' division.  Traditionally the state tournament ran on six mats inside the Kohl Center in Madison.  This year they will be using eight mats, with two for each of the three boys' divisions and two for the girl's division.  The Tournament is always exciting, and adding the girls should make it even better.

Nora dropped to the 100lb weight class for the first time after wrestling the regular season at 114 and 107.  Nora was ranked #7 at 107, earning the top seed and a first-round bye.  In her semi-final match, Nora faced #7-ranked Megan Schuenemann from Plymouth.  Nora scored a first-period takedown, but Schuenemann earned an escape to keep it close at 2-1 going into the second.  In the second period, Nora scored a reversal and a near fall in the third to widen the gap.  In the finals, Nora faced #11 ranked Grace Holguin from Marinette.  In the finals, Nora hit her offense early, leading 5-0 before earning a pin in the second period.

Hailey came into the Tournament unranked after joining the team late in the season.  Hailey's only experience before sectionals this season was winning her bracket at Green Bay Preble, where she faced Sydney Turner, who is also from Southern Door, in the finals.  Hailey wrestled through middle school but took the next two years off to play basketball.  Fortunately, she didn't forget her basics and is an excellent athlete.  In her final match, Hailey also built an early lead and dominated before getting the fall in the second period.

Sydney Turner made the finals with a third-period pin in the quarterfinals.  In the finals, she faced #1 ranked Brooke Schuenemann from Plymouth.  Sydney did her best but couldn't keep pace with Schuenemann.  Lilly Wrenn also wrestled well, winning her first match with a pin, but she lost her second match, which was close until the third period.

For the boy's side of the Tournament, Mason Motquin started us out by avenging a loss a few weeks ago to Conner Stephens from Seymour, winning by a major decision 12-4.  Unfortunately, after that, the quarterfinals did go well.  Wyatt Wilke 132 got caught fighting a takedown, Hayden Jeanquart lost a tough match 3-0, and Cody Nellis slipped, trying to pull his opponent back in bounds at the edge of the mat.  In the semi-final, Mason lost to eventual champion Huntley from Brillion and then lost a heartbreaker 9-8 on the consolation side.

After the sting of defeat numbs, the experience will be good for those not advancing.  For Cody, it was his last match in high school.  Not the ending he had hoped for, but he tried his best.  Cody plans to pursue a career as a firefighter next year, where his leadership skills should serve him well.  We'll miss his positive attitude in the practice room.   For the others, I know this experience will make them better.  Hopefully, this will give them the hunger to work hard and get to the state level next season.

Nora and Hailey will be leaving for Madison Thursday morning along with a great support network of coaches, teammates, family, and friends.  Weigh-ins start at 1:30, and the first round of wrestling at 3:00 Thursday afternoon.  Both girls are happy to have qualified but not satisfied with just making it.  Both are very good technical wrestlers and will show what they can do.

Eagles, Storm battle for Packerland boys title

The defacto Packerland boys' basketball title game is set for Brussels Monday night as Southern Door hosts Kewaunee.

The Eagles used good ball movement and a solid inside game to leave Fish Creek with a 63-47 win over the Gibraltar Vikings on Friday night. The Eagles wore down the Vikings' defense in the second half, scoring 35 points after the break, including a 19-6 run that ultimately put the game out of reach halfway through the second half. or the Eagles, Drew Daoust led the way with 30 points, while Jared Hawkey added 12 points. Taylor Schaefer and Lance LeGrave each chipped in seven points.

The Storm has won seven of their last nine games, including a palindromic 82-28 decision to Sevastopol on Friday night.

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

Eagles boys pull away from Vikings on U 102.1

The Southern Door Eagles boys' basketball team used good ball movement and a solid inside game to leave Fish Creek with a 63-47 win over the Gibraltar Vikings.

The match-up along with the Little Vikings brought some extra energy to the game, which started with the Vikings scoring the first seven points of the game. The Eagles would flip the script of the first half thanks to a 11-2 run to close the half to make it 28-22.

The Eagles wore down the Vikings' defense in the second half as they scored 35 points after the break, including a 19-6 run that ultimately put the game out of reach halfway through the second half.

For the Eagles, Drew Daoust led the way with 30 points, while Jared Hawkey added 12 points. Taylor Schaefer and Lance LeGrave each chipped in seven points.

Will Friedenfels paced the Vikings with 18 points as he was able to use his size to his advantage. Braden Sitte contributed nine points and Carl Burgess added eight points in the loss.

Eagles girls enter tournament play on four-game winning streak

The Southern Door girls' basketball team will enter the WIAA Tournament next Tuesday as one of the hottest teams in the area after beating NEW Lutheran 67-39.

The rout was on from the jump as the Eagles outscored the Blazers 39-14 in the first half. Ashlyn Delfosse continued her strong scoring efforts this week with a team-high 26 points, while Allianna Dufek added 17 points. Bella Price chipped in seven points in the victory.

It marked the fourth straight win for the Eagles, tipping Kewaunee 58-56 after being down at halftime 35-31 on Monday. The Eagles boasted a balanced scoring attack, with four players reaching double figures. Delfosse led that game with 18 points, and Dufek contributed 14 points. Payton Gilbertson (13 points) and Callie Miller (11 points) were the other two players reaching double figures.

They open the tournament at home against Algoma on Tuesday, a game that will be featured on the NEW Radio Sports Network.

Eagles girls set for senior night against Blazers

The Southern Door Eagles girls basketball team will have their final game of the season be senior night, as they welcome in the NEW Lutheran Blazers Thursday night.

Southern Door defeated the Kewaunee Storm 58-56 last time out, improving their overall record to 13-10. Allianna Dufek was the hero for the Eagles in that win on Monday night, as she tipped in the game winning basket with just seconds left on the clock. Southern Door will have a meeting with Algoma in the first round of the WIAA playoffs on Tuesday, and the Eagles lead the season series 2-0.

For the NEW Lutheran Blazers, they fell to the Sevastopol Pioneers on Monday 59-23, in a game that clinched the Packerland conference for Sevastopol. Ebony Sinclair has been the leader in nearly everything for the Blazers this season, and NEW Lutheran will have two more seasons to look forward to her production. The Blazers received a 9 seed in the playoffs and will face off against Reedsville in the opening round.

Tip from Southern Door is set for 7:30 P.M.

Eagles get senior night win over Wolves on 103.3 The Clipper

A senior night win is a must for any team, but with seven seniors for Southern Door, it was extra important. The Eagles got that done firmly with a 66-51 win over the Algoma Wolves on Tuesday night on 103.3 The Clipper.

Drew Daoust came out firing in the first half from beyond the arc, having his best shooting performance of the season tonight against the Wolves. Within the first few minutes, Daoust and his teammate Jared Hawkey had the Eagles out and racing ahead of Algoma. Whether it was baskets underneath the hoop, or open threes, the Eagles were getting it done on both ends.

Owen Robertson tried to keep the Wolves in the game early, but would not receive much help until later on in the game. Robertson and Parker Lischka would enter the break leading the way in scoring for Algoma with five each in a 16 point first half for the Wolves.

Southern Door would enter halftime leading 35-16 led by Drew Daoust’s 19 points.

The second half would be much of the same from the Southern Door side. Drew Daoust would find Matthew Malvitz multiple times for easy layups, and Daoust would end up finishing the game with 37 points, four away from his season high.

Parker Lischka became a strong scoring option for the Wolves tonight as he led the way with 17 points on five total threes, four coming in the second half.

Southern Door will next be in action on Friday when they make the trip to Gibraltar to take on the Vikings on U102.1

Eagles ride streak into matchup against Wolves on 103.3 The Clipper

With the playoff bracket right around the corner, the Southern Door Eagles will look to push their overall winning streak to 15 games when the Algoma Wolves come to Brussels Tuesday night.

Southern Door has gone from a lackluster 3-3 start their first six games to rattling off wins pushing their record to 17-3. The Eagles did just sneak by in their last matchup against the Wolves of Algoma back on January 7th by a score of 59-54. Drew Daoust put on one of his best performances of the season, scoring 35 points on 59% shooting from the field. Taylor Schaefer is coming off of a 23 point outburst against Sturgeon Bay last Thursday, and will look to continue his scoring against the Wolves.

Algoma enters their matchup against the Eagles at 7-13 after last nights make up win over the Sevastopol Pioneers. The Wolves have begun to find themselves in games down the stretch of the season, despite three straight losses. The losses come against teams with a combined Packerland record of 26-11 and are all in the top half of the conference. Their guard play has become the main focus of their offense, and they have been getting scoring from three different guards over 10 points in recent games.

Gary Barta and Reece Robillard will be on the call from Brussels on 103.3 The Clipper, 96.7 WBDK HD-2, and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com. The pregame show begins at 7:15 with tipoff set for 7:30 P.M.

Eagles girls visit Kewaunee Monday

The Southern Door girls' basketball team will try to go for their third straight win as they visit Kewaunee Monday night.

In Friday's 56-52 victory over Gibraltar, Alianna Dufek scored 12 of her 20 points in the first half. The Vikings and the Eagles would rely on their stars to essentially play an even second half with Southern Door's Callie Miller and Gibraltar's Andie Schar shouldering the load. Miller routinely would take the ball in from more than 30 feet out and draw a foul if not registering an assist or a basket of her own. She finished with 13 points, eight of which came after the break. Dufek and Miller were complemented by Payton Gilbertson who contributed 13 points.

The Storm had nine different players score but none more than seven points in their 56-32 loss to the Pioneers on Friday. Jade Kroll managed seven points and Lexi Hanrahan added five points in the loss against the conference leaders.

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

Eagles boys sink Clippers

Balanced scoring at the top of its line-up helped Southern Door soar past Sturgeon Bay Thursday night in a 72-53 victory.

The Eagles were able to pepper the Clippers underneath during the game as they carried a 37-25 lead into halftime and outscored them by eight in the second half. That is despite the Clippers outshooting the Eagles from behind the arc 9-1.

Drew Daoust (26) and Taylor Schaefer (23) cracked the 20-point barrier for the Eagles in the victory. Jared Hawkey added 10 points for the Eagles.

For the Clippers, Isaak Aune drained five three-pointers en route to a team-high 26 points to match Daoust. Garrett Ulberg pitched in 12 points for the Clippers while Calvin Richard added nine points from behind the arc.

Eagles soar over Spartans on 104.1 WRLU

The Southern Door Eagles used a 16-0 run late in the first half to come away with a convincing 69-42 win over Luxemburg-Casco Monday night at home.

The Spartans came out with a "diamond and one" defense that shadowed Eagle star Drew Daoust and contained him early on.  The Spartans managed to stay with the Eagles early as Chase Bukouricz and Lance Cherovsky scored five points in the first ten minutes to close within 15-14.  That's when the Eagles cranked up the defense and were able to force turnovers that turned into easy baskets.  The Eagles scored the final 16 before halftime to take a commanding 31-14 lead, as the Spartans could never make a run in the second half to get back into the game.

Daoust led the Eagles, scoring 16 of his game-high 28 points in the second half.  Jared Hawkey added 17 points, with 13 of those coming in the first half.

The Spartans were led by Lance Cherovsky, who scored 14 points while hitting four three three-pointers.  Bukouricz chipped in seven more.

Three Eagles wrestlers take titles at Preble JV Tournament

Southern Door wrestlers took advantage of one last opportunity to get competition in before next week's regionals at the Preble JV Tournament.

Ethan Alexander (119-128lb), Thomas Jackson (167-179 lb), and Hailey Veeser (131-143 lb) all won titles at their respective weight classes. Three others took second place and two more took third.

FROM COACH ENGLEBERT

Saturday Southern Door competed at the Green Bay Preble wrestling tournament.  This has traditionally been a JV tournament but this year included a separate Girls Division.  Great for the girls to get another tournament in before their post season starts in two weeks.  Because the girls do not have a regional the next time they compete will be at the individual sectional level.

To make the most of the tournament each wrestler was paired into weight classes with the closest four or five other contestants.  Our top finisher was a welcome surprise as Hailey Veeser won the title at 131-143.  Hailey is back wrestling after a couple years off.  Hailey was a successful middle school wrestler but chose to focus on basketball the past two years  This year she plans to finish the basketball season and wrestle as well.  Finishing second in that same bracket was Sydney Turner.  Both girls wrestled very well.  Sydney will be at 132 or possibly 126 for the post season and Hailey at 138 or 145 so they will not be competing at the same weight.

Nora LeFevre also placed second at 89-108.  Nora had to battle in her first two matches and didn't really hit her stride until the third round.  Round one was a tough 2-0 decision that showed her grit as she held on for the win.  In round two Nora was leading 10-2 late in the third before Jackie Zungia from Preble caught her off balance in an awkward position and scored the fall.  Definitely a winnable match and a mistake Nora won't make again.

At 114-122 Lilly Wrenn placed 3rd.  Lilly is doing better and more technique every time she wrestles.  She is improving at a very good pace and should do well at 120.  She lost a tough one in the final round that I feel she could have won but otherwise looked very good.

For the JV boys we did very well and congratulation to Ethan Alexander and Thomas Jackson who both finished first in their brackets.

Eagles soar past Pioneers on 103.3 The Clipper host Crivitz Saturday

The Southern Door Eagles rolled to an easy 91-36 victory over the Sevastopol Pioneers Friday night in Boys’ Packerland Conference action.

The Eagles’ Drew Daoust, after making history eclipsing the 1,000 career point mark earlier this week, scored 22 of his game-high 36 points in the first half to lead Southern Door to their tenth Packerland win of the season.

Sevastopol took an early 3-2 lead with a three-pointer by Oliver Mathews, but Southern Door would go on a big run by forcing numerous turnovers that turned into fast break layups to take a 58-28 into halftime.

At intermission, a ceremony featuring Steve Neville and John Berns as the newest inductees to the Southern Door Athletic Hall of Fame.  With Gordy Swiggum presenting Neville and Al Breitlow presenting John Berns.  Neville and Berns visited with NRSN's Paul Schmitt prior to the induction ceremony.

Daoust, the player of the game, hit four three-pointers and had several steals leading to easy transition baskets

Sevastopol was led in scoring by Nick Peterson and Daniel Castillo-Barahona who scored 11 points each.

Southern Door boys host Sevastopol on 103.3 The Clipper

The Southern Door Eagles look to keep rolling as they host the Sevastopol Pioneers Friday night in Boys’ Packerland Conference action.

The Eagles are coming off a dominating 76-39 road win over the Two Rivers Purple Raiders on Tuesday.  Sophomore Drew Daoust made history eclipsing the 1,000 career point mark with 32 points to lead Southern Door.

Sevastopol lost to Suring 56-49 on Monday and was beat earlier this season by Southern Door 94-40 at home.

Daoust leads the Eagles in scoring with a 32.4 average, while Nick Peterson paces the Pioneers with 9.2 points per contest.

Friday night will also feature at halftime the induction of John Berns and Steve Neville into the Southern Door Athletic Hall of Fame.

The pregame will begin at 7:15 p.m. on 103.3 The Clipper with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.  Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard will have the call that will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network.

Eagles girls look to keep momentum Thursday versus Blue Devils

The Southern Door Eagles girls basketball team will look to use the momentum from their 70-44 win over the Sturgeon Bay Clippers as they take on the Oconto Blue Devils on Thursday night.

The status of the Eagles guard Payton Gilbertson will still be up in the air after not being active for Monday night's game. That remains important because of the impact Gilbertson brought to the court in the last matchup versus Oconto, leading the way with 14 points, including 3 threes. Southern Door would fall in that matchup versus Oconto by eight however, and will look to avenge that loss.

Oconto is fresh off of a large win over the Gibraltar Vikings on Tuesday night. Addisyn Viestenz continues to be a scoring threat every time she steps on the court, scoring a team-high 24 points in the win, including three made threes. The Blue Devils will enter the matchup against the Eagles with a 14-5 overall record, and sit in second in the Packerland at 9-2, tied with Peshtigo.

Tipoff from Oconto is set for 7:30 P.M.

Southern Door wrestling finishes dual meet slate vs. Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol

Two country rivals will meet Thursday night in Brussels when Southern Door plays host to Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol.

At last week's Packerland duals, the Eagles squeaked past Oconto before being edged by Peshtigo while the Clippineers lost to those two schools after leading the evening off with a victory against Kewaunee. Both teams participated in the Dirk Sorenson Door County Classic with the Eagles' Hayden Jeanquart (160) capturing first place while Trevor Englebert (138) and Mason Motquin (120) took third. Three others placed in the tournament. Ben Roman (285) took 3rd place and Zak Wrobel (170) finished in fourth place as the Clippineers's lone place winners.

Wrestling begins at 7 p.m. and will be preceded by middle school matches.

Daoust hits 1,000 points as Eagles cruise to victory over Two Rivers

History was made on the hardwoods on Tuesday night, as Drew Daoust eclipsed the 1,000 point landmark in his sophomore year.

The Southern Door Eagles dominated the Two Rivers Purple Raiders on the road 76-39 as Daoust poured in 20 of his game-high 32 points in the second half.  Needing nine points to hit 1,000 for his career, Daoust accomplished the feat late in the first half as the Eagles flew to a convincing non-conference win.  Jared Hawkey added 16 points and Taylor Schaefer chipped in another 13 for the Eagles.

The Eagles will now host Sevastopol on Friday night in the Hall of Fame game that will honor Steve Neville and John Berns.  The game will be broadcast on 103.3 The Clipper and streamed on New Radio Sports Network with Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard on the call with pregame set for 7:15 and tip at 7:30 p.m.
