Southern Door County’s Hailey Shimon would not end her track and field career without a trip to the podium. On Friday in La Crosse, Shimon placed fifth in the discus at the WIAA Division 2 state track and field. To crack the top five, Shimon launched the discus 125 feet and 1 inch. Shimon’s high school career ends right along the Minnesota border, and will be crossing it this Fall to attend school and throw for the University of St. Thomas.

Shimon qualified for the state meet in discus with a toss of 119-04 feet. That is the seventh furthest distance in the field for Friday with six throwers exceeding 120 feet and two exceeding 130 feet. If she can recapture her magic from the Door County Classic where she threw a personal record of over 131 feet, she could land herself with a silver medal.

Mishicot put on the defensive performance they needed to knock off Southern Door in the WIAA playoff matchup on Tuesday. Southern Door couldn’t get a run on the board in the 2-0 loss. Southern Door ended their season undefeated in conference and 14-5 overall. Mishicot will duel Gibraltar on Wednesday, as both teams pulled off Tuesday upsets to advance in the WIAA playoff. 

A flock of Southern Door Eagles including double regional champion Hailey Shimon will see their season continue at Fox Valley Lutheran on Thursday for WIAA Track Sectionals.

In the Little Chute Regional, the boys finished in sixth place with 55.5 points and the girls came in seventh with 42 points.

Southern Door took advantage of eleven hits en route to an 8-2 win over Wrightstown in Monday’s WIAA playoff tilt. Monday was the first time the non-conference teams met up this season. After the six-run victory, Southern Door will have a revenge match in their next round of the WIAA playoffs. On Wednesday, the Eagles visit Kewaunee, who beat them 8-7 on May 11th. 

Southern Door's softball team will stay in Brussels to start tournament play on Monday afternoon with a matchup against Wrightstown.

The Eagles closed out the 2021 campaign 3-2 loss against Valders after going 6-2 in Packerland Conference play. Wrightstown finished 9-9 in Northeastern Conference play, going undefeated in four games during the month of June.

First pitch is 4:30 p.m.

Southern Door fell behind 3-0 to Valders and couldn’t completely climb out of that hole on Thursday. The game ended as a 3-2 loss for Southern Door. The loss won’t affect Southern Door’s place in the standings or for playoffs, but it does put their record right at .500 as they are now 10-10. Southern Door is all out of playoff tune-up games, as they take on Wrightstown in the opening round of the WIAA regional on Monday.

The Southern Door boys' track team finished in third and the girls finished in fifth at the Packerland Conference Track Championships held in Peshtigo Monday.

The boys scored 128 points and had event winners in Kyle Conard (long and triple jump), Brodie Overbeck (shot put), Eli Mancheski (high jump), and the 4x100m relay.

The girls finished in fifth with 59 points. The Eagles had no event winners but did have five finish in the top 3.

The Southern Door softball team fell to 6-3 in conference play and split with Oconto on the season after their loss on the road Tuesday. The Eagles dropped the game by a 6-4 final score. Now Oconto and Southern Door are tied for third in the conference, and have each beat each other once. Southern Door has no time to waste getting back on track as they have a rematch with Kewaunee on Thursday at 5:00 PM. They lost to Kewaunee 8-7 on May 11th. 

Southern Door cruised to another conference victory in just five innings of play. The Eagles shutout Oconto in their 18-0 win. The Eagles are now 9-0 in conference action. The loss drops their opponent to 4-4 in conference. The Eagles have a chance to finish with a perfect conference record on Friday when they close their regular season. They will take on Green Bay NEW Lutheran at home for their shot at ten conference wins. 

The Southern Door Eagle softball team will visit Oconto on Tuesday to try and get the season sweep between the two teams. Southern Door beat Oconto 12-6 on May 13th. Southern Door has also won conference games in their last five go-arounds, beating Sturgeon Bay twice, NEW Lutheran, Sevastopol, and Oconto. For Oconto, they most recently beat Sevastopol 13-3. First pitch for Tuesday’s game is at 5:00 PM in Oconto.
