Southern Door meets Oostburg at home

The Southern Door Eagles look to start another long winning streak on Friday night when they play host to Oostburg.

The Eagles went undefeated during the regular season, averaging more than 32 points per game while also shutting out six opponents during their 11-win season. Their lone blemish came in the playoffs when they lost their rematch to Kewaunee 15-12. The two games against the Storm were the only games the Eagles played that were not decided by double-figures.

The Flying Dutchmen went 7-4 in 2022, going on a three-game winning streak before losing to Mayville in their Level 2 playoff game.

In last year's edition of this matchup, quarterback Drew Daoust threw for 208 yards and two scores and rushed for another in the Eagles' 27-0 win against the Flying Dutchmen.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Cross-country begins Monday

The area's seven cross-country teams will get their first official workouts in on Monday.

The area's only two state qualifiers came on the girls' side in 2022. Southern Door sophomore Emma Bousley figures to be one of the top returning runners this season after coming in 54th place at last year's state meet in Wisconsin Rapids. Her top competition locally comes from Kewaunee's Hannah Miller, who came in five spots ahead of her in 49th in the Division 3 race.

Meets can begin as soon as August 22nd.

Southern Door wrestling hosts girls camp

With Door County boasting some of the top female wrestlers in the state, hosting a camp featuring an All-American was a natural fit.

Southern Door recently wrapped up two-day wrestling camp for girls featuring wrestlers from around the region. With help from longtime wrestling assistant Dave Walker to coordinate the camp, two-time NCAA All-American Mateah Roehl led the girls through a number of drills and techniques to prepare them for the upcoming season. The Watertown, Wis. native earned her stripes as a member of the North Central wrestling team between 2020-2022.

The Eagles' Nora LeFevre (100) and Hailey Veeser (138) made history earlier this year when they won their first matches at the inaugural WIAA Girls State Wrestling Tournament with the latter eventually taking fourth place. Another local wrestler, Tiani Lemieux of Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol represented Wisconsin in the North American Indigenous Games held in Halifax, Canada with a silver medal-winning performance.
