Eagles fall short to Spartans 60-55 on 96.7 WBDK

The Southern Door Eagles battled but could not overcome a big deficit, losing to Luxemburg Casco 60-55 in a non-conference game Monday night in Luxemburg.  The Eagles cut a 15 point second-half lead by the Spartans to four points, but could not get any closer.

The Spartans jumped to an 18-10 lead in the first half and led by as many as 11 points before closing the half with a 34-24 advantage.

Freshman Drew Daoust kept the Eagles in the game scoring 11 of his team-high 22 points in the first half.  Taylor Schaefer had a strong inside game scoring 15 points for Southern Door, but it was not enough.

Peyton Mrotek paced the Spartans with 23 points, hitting seven of 11 free throws in the second half to seal the victory for Luxemburg-Casco.

Southern Door falls to 9-8 overall and returns to Packerland Conference play on Friday night against Sevastopol in a game that will be on 104.1 WRLU.  The Spartans (6-7, 9-8 overall) will now host Oconto Falls Thursday night, returning to play in the NEC.

Southern Door girls host non-conference matchup Monday

The Southern Door girls' basketball team will leave the Packerland Conference on Monday night in hopes of snapping a three-game losing streak when they host Sheboygan Falls.

The Eagles dropped their last contest to Sevastopol 56-32 despite 10 points from Kendra Shimon. The last three games have been against the Packerland Conference's top three teams. Sheboygan Falls has not fared much better, winning only twice in their seven games in 2022. Addison Schliewe leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 8.7 points and five rebounds per game.

The opening tip is set for 7:30 p.m.

Eagles wrestlers take fourth at Sorenson Invitational

The short drive north paid dividends for the Southern Door wrestling team as they took fourth place at the Dirk Sorenson Door County Classic Saturday at Sturgeon Bay High School.

The Eagles scored 150.5 points on the day, 23.5 points behind first-place Bay Port. Eight different Eagles medaled on the day, including Mason Motquin winning the 113 pound weight class. Thomas Grosbeier, Brodie Overbeck, Hayden Jeanquart, Spencer Slezewski, Wyatt Wilke, Trevor Englebert, and Jonas Jandrin also medaled. You can find their full results and coach Jerry Englebert;s thoughts below:

Yesterday we competed at the Dirk Sorenson Door County Classic in Sturgeon Bay.  The competition at this tournament is a unique mix of very good JV teams, some teams with a mix of JV and Varsity wrestlers, and several small teams with some top-ranked wrestlers.  This year the WIAA rules on the number of competitions allowed changed.  The new regulations allow a maximum of 14 weigh-ins and a maximum number of 50 matches (prior to regionals) for any wrestler.  This change has many teams juggling lineups and schedules at the end of the season.

Our technique and confidence is getting better each week which is great to see.  We wrestled well in the first two rounds and advanced 9 to the semi-finals.  In the semi's we made a few mistakes but still advanced four wrestlers in the finals.  In the final round, we were in a good position as a team but our lack of experience showed and we finished a very close fourth out of the 20 teams present.

Our top finisher was Mason Motquin at 113.  Mason started with a bye, then a tech fall to make the semi-final where he beat the #1 seed, Clayton Ellison, from Oshkosh West.  In the final Mason had a tight match with Garcia from Bayport who had already beaten the #2 and #3 seeds.  Mason did a great job attacking the outside in neutral but gave up some points and was behind 5-7 going into the third period with Garcia having his choice.  In the third period, Mason was riding well and earned a near fall late in the third with a textbook hammerlock to secure the win.

Finishing second were Thomas Grosbeier, Jonas Jandrin and Brodie Overbeck.

Finishing third were Wyatt Wilke, Trevor Englebert, and Hayden Jeanquart.

Finishing fourth was Spencer Slezewski.

Next up is our home quad with Kewaunee, Wrightstown, and Bayport.  We have seen all three in individually bracketed tournaments this season but not in team duals.  We'll start with Kewaunee at 5:30.  Looking at the rest of our schedule this should be for the conference title.

They doubled up Sevastopol 75-33 earlier this week thanks to 17 points from Landon Lemke and two others reaching double figures.

The Bulldogs outscored the Eagles 25-18 in the second half earlier this season to take the game 54-51 in Peshtigo. Kaine Fort scored 16 points for the Bulldogs and Drew Daoust led the Eagles with 23 points.

The second dual of the night started at 195 between Southern Door and Laona Waubeno Three Lakes.   After watching and waiting our Eagle team was ready and excited to wrestle, and so were the coaches.  This was the first trip back to SD for former Eagle standout Colin Schubert.  Colin is the current head coach for LWT.  Colin was a 2013 State Champ at 145 and holds many individual school records.  After high school, Colin went on to Northern Michigan University where he trained for the Olympics in Greco Roman and earned his teaching degree.

As a team, we competed against Laona Waubeno Three Lakes at two tournaments.  First at Oshkosh on the Water and most recently at the Cutler Classic in New London.  Both tournaments were individually bracketed tournaments and we only faced a few wrestlers head to head.  At both tournaments, LWT finished higher in the team standings so we were expecting a battle.

Although we didn't get a win in the first match, it was a great match and helped set the tone.  At 195 Riley was facing Frank Shepard from LWT.  Shepard is currently ranked honorable mention in D3 at 182 and has been wrestling very well.  Shepard scored a first-period TD but Riley was quick to get back to his feet and earn the escape and the period ended 1-2.  Shepard chose bottom in the second where he earned a reversal but again Riley escaped.  Unfortunately, Riley gave up a TD with less than 10 seconds to end the period down 2-6.  In the third period, Riley chose bottom and earned another escape to cut the lead to 3-6.  Another TD by Shepard made the score 3-8 but Riley didn't quit.  He kept battling and hit a beautiful reversal bringing Shepard to his back.  Unfortunately, Riley was just short of time and only earned two near fall to end the match 7-8.  If ever there is loss you can be proud of and build from this was it.  Riley wrestled very smart and kept himself in position the entire match.

A pin by Brodie Overbeck at 220 was followed by a pair of FFT's.  Then, five wins in a row from 126 - 152 sealed the victory for SD.

The final dual of the night was Southern Door vs Two Rivers.  Unfortunately, Two Rivers was missing a few wrestlers.  We didn't get as many matches as we would have liked but, we did get some very exciting matches.  At 138 Lucas Conard was very aggressive and set the tone early.  Nice to have a young inexperienced wrestler going hard and seeing things click for him.  Thomas Grosbeier at 145 is getting better every week.  We'll see if he can better his 4th place finish last week as he gets on a roll.

At 160 Hayden Jeanquart asked me for a rematch against Justin Klinker rather than moving up to 170.  Klinker got the best of Hayden last Saturday at Sheboygan North in the second round of the Herb Tyler invite with a decisive 10-2 major decision.  Tonight Hayden was ready and attacking.  Hayden shot a double off the first whistle and after a fierce back and forth battle earned the takedown.  A reversal by Klinker ended the period 2-2.  Klinker chose down in the second and earned another reversal to go up 2-4.  Hayden was close to some scores from the bottom but couldn't get out ending the second down 2-4.  In the third Hayden chose neutral and was fast to attack again.  He scored a takedown with a nice double and 3 near fall to go up 7-4.  After Klinker scored another reversal he let Hayden escape to make the score 8-6.  The period ended with another flurry of action from both wrestlers.  Both were close but there were no takedowns or scoring.

Big wins for this young team.  We are really bonding well and improving fast.  We'll look to take this momentum into Saturday's tournament, the last of the regular season.  This weekend we will be at the Dirk Sorenson Invitational in Sturgeon Bay.  Next Tuesday night at 5:30 we will be hosting Kewaunee, Bay Port, and Wrightstown.  The first match at 5:30 with Kewaunee will be for the Conference title.

Southern Door wrestling hosts first duals in two years Thursday

The Southern Door wrestling team will finally have its turn to compete in front of its home fans on Thursday.

The pandemic all but canceled their home meets in 2020 and two days of virtual learning for Kewaunee canceled their dual earlier this month. The Southern Door wrestling team brought home ninth place and a handful of medals Saturday at the Herb Tyler Invitational hosted by Sheboygan North.

The Eagles welcome Laona-Wabeno and Two Rivers to Brussels for a pair of duals for each team. Two Rivers features Chase Matthias, who is currently ranked fifth in Division 2 at 195 pounds, but he had been previously ranked as high as second. Wabeno/Laona features state-ranked Piersson Czaplinski (6th, 160 pounds), Ryan Roy (2nd, 170 pounds), and Frank Shepherd (Honorable Mention, 182 pounds).

Second-half sends Southern Door soaring past Oconto on 104.1 WRLU

The Southern Door Eagles boys' basketball team outscored their hosts by 20 points in the second half en route to a 71-52 win over the Oconto Blue Devils.

It was a see-saw battle for most of the first half as both Blue Devils and the Eagles took aim at each other's star players to control them, forcing other players to make plays. Kadin Baxter would take control for the Blue Devils as he scored 13 of his game-high 21 points in the first half, most of which came in the latter stages of the frame. Three-pointers made by Nic Pierre, Drew Daoust, Logan Jeanquart, and Jared Hawkey kept the score close with the Eagles only down one at the break.

The Eagles came out firing offensively thanks to Jeanquart scoring 10 of his 13 points after the half and two other players scoring at least eight. Meanwhile, a switch to a 1-3-1 defensive zone caused havoc on the Blue Devils' offense that they would not be able to recover from. Daoust led the Eagles with 18 points with Taylor Schaefer (14) and Jeanquart also reaching double figures.

The Eagles will host Peshtigo in their next game on January 29th at 7:30 p.m.

Eagles girls fall to Peshtigo

The Southern Door girls' basketball team dropped their second straight game to a top-flight Packerland opponent Monday night, this time to Peshtigo 60-34.

The Eagles were only able to muster 11 points in the opening frame to put them in a hole against the Bulldogs. Kendra Shimon hit three three-pointers to lead the Eagles with 13 points. Callie Miller added eight points and Isabella Price chipped in seven in the loss.

The loss drops the Eagles to 3-7 in the Packerland Conference and 4-14. They will get another try this week when they begin a three-game homestand on Friday with Sevastopol. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Southern Door travels to Oconto on 104.1 WRLU

The Southern Door Eagles will follow up their impressive win against NEW Lutheran when they travel to Oconto on Tuesday.

Drew Daoust scored 24 points while Taylor Schaefer and Jared Hawkey each added 10 points to help the Eagles outscore the Blazers by eight in the second half to win the game 65-60. The output helped Daoust crack the top 5 in scoring in the Packerland with 18.5 points per game. The win also helped the Eagles match the Blue Devils in the Packerland standings with identical 5-3 records. The Blue Devils had four players crack double figures against Sevastopol in their 91-47 victory last Friday. Kadin Baxter led all scorers with 28 points as the Blue Devils were able to crack a five-game losing streak.

Tim Kowols will have the call on 104.1 WRLU and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 7 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7:30 p.m.

Eagles girls make trip to Peshtigo

The Southern Door girls' basketball team looks to put together a full 36 minutes on the road Monday night when they travel to Peshtigo.

A four-minute run that saw Oconto go on a 14-0 run sent the Eagles to their 71-56 loss last Thursday against the conference's best team. Paige Olson and Ashlynn Delfosse led the Eagles with 11 points apiece while Kendra Shimon chipped in eight points in the defeat.

They will have another tall task waiting for them in the Packerland's top scorer Sydney Lund. She has been averaging nearly 21 points a game so far this season for the Bulldogs. She scored 19 in their 39-34 battle against Sevastopol last week.

Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Eagles boys deal NEW Lutheran their first loss

The Southern Door boys' basketball team dealt NEW Lutheran their first loss in the Packerland Conference with a 65-60 decision Friday night in Green Bay.

The Eagles trailed the Blazers by three points heading into halftime, but outscored them 36-28 in the second half to even up their overall season record. Drew Daoust hit a pair of three-pointers en route to a 24 point evening. Jared Hawkey and Taylor Schaefer each pitched in 10 points as well.

Tristian Lynch scored 20 points and Lucas Dhein added 11 points in the loss for the Blazers.

Eagles boys look to douse Blazers

The Southern Door boys' basketball team will try to stop the NEW Lutheran Blazers' hot start when the two teams match up in Green Bay Friday night.

The Eagles were involved in a see-saw battle Tuesday night before eventually falling to Kewaunee 62-56 despite another 20-plus outing from freshman Drew Daoust. The Blazers boast a perfect 7-0 record in the Packerland Conference, including 73-42 victory over Sevastopol earlier this week. Currently ranked fifth in the state among Division 5 schools, the Blazers have three players averaging at least 13 points per game, led by Tristan Lynch's 19.9 points per game.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Southern Door sweeps duals against Peshtigo, Oconto

In round 1 we started out at 195 with Riley Phillips receiving a forfeit and then jumped right into a great match at 220 with Brodie Overbeck vs Connor Thomas.  Thomas is currently ranked #8 in Division II. Brodie earned a nice take down in the first and took a 2-0 lead into the second period.  After giving up an escape in the second Brodie held a 2-1 lead going into the third with choice.  He then earned an escape to go up 3-1.  With about a minute left Brodie gave up a takedown to tie the score at 3-3.  He then earned an escape with about 30 seconds remaining but gave up a stalling point to send the match into OT at 4-4.    In OT Brodie shot a double but was caught under and gave up the deciding takedown.  Probably one of the best-contested matches of Brodie's season but not the finish the Eagle Fans were looking for.

Another exciting match came at 138 with two young freshmen.  Lucas Conard earned a first-period TD but gave up an escape to take a 2-1 lead into the second period. Lucas then gave up a reversal but earned an escape to head to the third tied 3-3 with choice.  Lucas took the bottom and earned an escape and a TD to go up 6-3 but then gave up an escape cutting his lead to 6-4.  Both wrestlers were close to several TD's but Lucas held on for the decision.

Proud of the guys' effort tonight in both matches.  We looked better in neutral and worked a lot of different techniques on top making pinning a focus.  We also looked better on the bottom but needed several attempts to score.  A few common mistakes tonight but mostly just small corrections.  Lucas Kallin at 106 was a little dinged up in the first dual and sat out the second but should be better for Saturday.

Next up for the Eagles is the Herb Tyler invite at Sheboygan North on Saturday.  Another tough 16 team tournament with tough teams from all divisions.  We'll see some familiar opponents that should give us a gauge as to how we are improving and some teams we haven't seen but will in the tournament run.

First-half run sinks Eagles girls vs. Oconto on 104.1 WRLU

A 14-0 run to end the first half proved to be the difference in the Southern Door girls' basketball team's 71-56 Thursday.

The Blue Devils stuck with what worked in the two team's first match-up by forcing turnovers early in the Eagles' possessions and capitalizing on the opportunity. The Eagles stuck with the Blue Devils with Callie Miller and Paige Olson providing a spark on offense to get them to within four of the Packerland Conference leaders. The Blue Devils turned it on from there, shutting the Eagles down for the final three minutes while scoring the half's final 14 points.

The two teams played relatively even in the second half with the Blue Devils eventually stretching the lead to over before the Eagles were able to cut the deficit thanks to a big effort offensively from Ashlynn Delfosse. Olson and Delfosse led the Eagles with 11 points apiece while Kendra Shimon chipped in eight points. Addisyn Viestenz led all scorers with 23 points while Lianna Baxter added 15.

The Eagles' next game is against Peshtigo.

Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol travel for wrestling duals

It will be a Packerland round-robin of sorts when Southern Door and Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol travel to Oconto for a quadrangular meet.

The Clippineers and the Eagles will not wrestle each other at the meet, saving their conference matchup for February 3rd at Sturgeon Bay High School.  The Eagles are coming off a ninth-place finish at Cutler Classic that saw Hayden Jeanquart take third place and Trevor Engebert and Thomas Grosbeier capture fifth place. At the same tournament, Ben Roman took third place for the Clippineers while Zak Wrobel finished in 6th place.

The Bulldogs took fourth in their own tournament last weekend with Ethan Suennen, Brenden Conn, Reese Yunke, and Connor Thomas taking their brackets. The Blue Devils last wrestled in a dual against Menominee (MI).

Southern Door girls battle Oconto on 104.1 WRLU

The Southern Door Eagles girls' basketball team will be featured over the airwaves of the NEW Radio Sports Network on Thursday night.

The Eagles have split their last eight games, including a 58-53 overtime win over NEW Lutheran in its last game on Saturday. That game had some thrilling moments, but none more than Payton Gilbertson tying it with a three-pointer as time was expiring to force the extra period. Kendra Shimon leads the team in scoring and rebounding at about 12 points and 10 rebounds per game,

The Blue Devils have yet to lose this season with a perfect 15-0 record overall and an 8-0 mark in the Packerland Conference. Their last win was an out-of-conference blowout win over Suring 78-38. The Blue Devils are led by Lianna Baxter, who is averaging 18 points and 11 rebounds per game.

Eagles clipped at home by Storm on 104.1 WRLU

The Southern Door boys' basketball just could not generate enough offense Tuesday night in its 62-56 loss to Kewaunee.

The game was as snug as both teams' defenses in the first half. Drew Daoust scored 18 of his team-high 24 points in the first half, but the rest of the team could only generate 10 additional points as they entered the break down by a single point. Neither team was able to extend their lead by more than three points to break away from each other.

That changed in the second half when the Storm registered back-to-back three-pointers from Ben Heim and Cameron Cullen off of turnovers deep in the Eagles' defensive zone to build an eight-point lead at the halfway point in the second half. Nic Pierre and Jared Hawkey, who each reached double figures in the contest, would once again get the Eagles to within a couple of points only to have the Storm hold off the surge. Heim would go on to score a game-high 28 points while Cullen chipped in 14 points of his own to lead the Storm to victory.

The Eagles return to action on Friday when they face NEW Lutheran on the road.

Southern Door returns home to face Kewaunee on 104.1 WRLU

The Southern Door boys' basketball team looks for its fifth straight win on Tuesday night when they battle Kewaunee at home.

The pendulum swung back in and forth in the Eagles' 60-53 victory over Gibraltar last Friday. They held a 10 point advantage in the first half before giving way to the Vikings' who would take a seven-point advantage of their own. Three-pointers hit by Jack Peterson and Nic Pierre awoke the slumbering Eagles offense and catapulted them to the seven-point victory.

The Storm has not played since a 77-54 victory over Shiocton on January 11th. Kewaunee School District went into virtual learning on January 13th, postponing practice and its January 14th matchup against Sevastopol. Tuesday marks their first game back.

Tim Kowols and Reece Robillard will have the action on 104.1 WRLU and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 7 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7:30 p.m.

Eagles wrestlers place ninth at Cutler Classic

The Southern Door Eagles' wrestling team finished in the top half of the field at the Cutler Classic held in New London on Saturday.

The Eagles took ninth place overall with 95 points. Wisconsin Rapids won the tournament with over 280 points.

Hayden Jeanquart was the top finishing Eagles wrestler, taking 3rd place at 170 pounds. Trevor Englebert and Thomas Grosbeier took fifth at their respective weights.

Thoughts from head coach Jerry Englebert

Yesterday SDHS Wrestling was at the Cutler Classic wrestling tournament in New London.  As a team we finished 9th out of the 17 teams competing.  Teams competing included some of the best in the state.  These teams are very well coached making every win a battle.

We started out strong which was good to see.  As the level of the competition increased we took some losses as expected but some of those losses included matches where we had leads and matches we should have won.  We are wrestling fundamentally well for most of the matches but still making small costly mistakes allowing our competition to score.  Looking for that breakout moment where we put 6 minutes together, steadily looking to score and pulling upsets.  I know this group has it in them.

Individually our highest place finisher was Hayden Jeanquart taking third.  Hayden's only loss was to Roy from Laona Waubeno (state place winner the past two years).  The two met earlier this season at Oshkosh where Hayden couldn't keep pace with Roy.  This time it was a hard fought match the full 6 minutes.  Hayden works hard and will continue to make gains.

Also placing fifth were Trevor Engebert and Thomas Grosbeier.  Both of these guys are making steady improvement but have a lot more they can do.

Great to see this week was the return of Jonas Jandrin and Riley Phillips.  Riley finished 7th in the 195 varsity bracket and Jonas finished 1st in the 182 JV bracket.  Both are working to shake off the rust and get back into wrestling shape.  Their return couldn't come at a better time as we have the start of our conference season this week.  Kewaunee needed to be postponed last week.  Thursday night we will be at Oconto to wrestle Oconto and Peshtigo.

Southern Door engineers comeback against Gibraltar on 105.1 The GOAT

In a game of runs, the Southern Door Eagles' boys' basketball team had the final one in its 60-53 victory over Gibraltar Friday night in Fish Creek.

The Eagles jumped ahead early, scoring the game's first eight points and stretching the lead out to 10 points for much of the half despite the Vikings battling back to make it a two-possession game several times. Jake Schar knocked down a pair of threes to help the Vikings close the gap to just a two-point deficit at half. The Vikings changed up their defense in the second half and their offense took advantage, scoring the first six points of the second half and they would lead by as many as seven points in the second half. A corner three by Jack Peterson swung the momentum back in favor of the Eagles as Nic Pierre would hit a pair of threes that would put the Eagles ahead for good.

The Eagles used a short bench against the Vikings led by Pierre's 19 points and 14 from Drew Daoust. Logan Jeanquart chipped in 10 points of his own in the victory. The Vikings' Jake Schar and Will Friedenfels each got 12 points in the loss. The conference's leading scorer, Gibraltar's Sam Lindenberg, was held to just four points as he had to facilitate the offense in other ways thanks to the Eagles' smothering defense.

Southern Door will play at home against Kewaunee on 104.1 WRLU for a Tuesday tip time of 7:30 p.m.

Southern Door boys visits Gibraltar on 105.1 The GOAT

The Southern Door Eagles boys' basketball team looks for the fourth straight victory Friday night when they visit Gibraltar.

The Eagles come into the contest almost a week removed from their 59-46 victory over Algoma on Saturday. Drew Daoust leads the Eagles with almost 18 points a game while Jared Hawkey is nearly averaging a double-double a game with 10 points and eight rebounds a contest. The Eagles went through a four-game losing streak to start the season, but has since won five of its last seven including its current three-game winning streak. Eagles head coach Josh Vandenbush says it just took some time for his young team to figure out their roles.

The Vikings left the state after securing the 92-44 victory last Saturday on the road against Sevastopol. The double-overtime contest saw Jake Schar score 18 points and Sam Lindenberg add 15 points, but Menominee forced 13 turnovers off of steals alone to sneak past the Vikings 58-54.

Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 7 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7:30 p.m.

Southern Door/Kewaunee wrestling postponed

The Southern Door wrestling team has not had a home dual meet with fans for two years and now it will have to wait a little longer.

An uptick in general illnesses including COVID-19 and lacking enough staff to operate the school safely sent Kewaunee School District kids to virtual learning until Tuesday. That postponed Thursday's dual against the Eagles until a later date.

The Eagles are still scheduled to wrestle at this Saturday's invitational hosted by New London High School.

Eagles wrestling places two at Rocket Scramble

On Saturday our SD Wrestlers competed in the Rocket Scramble at Cedar Grove Belgium. This tournament is run a little differently than most other tournaments.  The wrestlers are seeded like normal but then compete to get into four man round robin brackets.  Ideally this creates round robin brackets with wrestlers of similar records.  The format worked very well for our wrestlers to gain experience, mat time and confidence.

Our top finisher was Hayden Jeanquart finishing second at 170.  Hayden wrestled hard all day winning some hard fought matches.  His only loss was to the top seed from Shioctin when he tried a kelly and got caught.  Brodie Overbeck finished 3rd at 220. Brodie also wrestled well and had a lead in every match.  Brodie is doing great in neutral but needs to work on his defense and patience to learn to win those matches.  Mason Motquin and Thomas Jackson both finished 4-1 on the day and placed 5th at their respective weights.Unfortunately, we were a little short handed due to illness and injuries at Cedar Grove but we hope to be back to full strength this week.  Our first conference dual is at home this Thursday night at 7:00 against Kewaunee.  Should be a good match.Below are individual results and a few photos.

Eagles host Wolves in Packerland play

The Algoma Wolves and the Southern Door Eagles will face off in another Packerland Conference matchup on Saturday.

Southern Door has won back to back games including an impressive 32 point victory over conference rival Sturgeon Bay. Drew Daoust is leading the Eagles averaging 17 points per game and Jared Hawkey is averaging 10 points per game.

As for Algoma, they are coming off of a win against Sevastopol their last time out and are looking to keep that momentum going against the Eagles. The Wolves have three players averaging double figures with Carter Zimmerman leading the charge averaging 24 points per game, Owen Robertson is averaging 12 points per game, and Kaden Vardon averaging 12 points per game.

Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. from Southern Door High School.

Southern Door/Gibraltar girls' basketball game moved up

The changes have been made ahead of Friday's matchup between the girls' basketball teams of Southern Door and Gibraltar.

The JV game has been scrapped due to a lack of healthy players for the Vikings after having to postpone games program-wide last week. The varsity game will be moved up from 7:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. with warm-ups beginning at 6:45 p.m. The Eagles will celebrate Parent's Night starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Vikings have not played since December 30th when they lost to Gillett 53-32. Health protocols forced them to postpone its game on Monday against Sevastopol.

The Eagles nearly came back from 16 down at halftime in its 53-48 loss to Algoma. Kendra Shimon helped spark the comeback with 23 points in the defeat.

Eagles wrestling finish well On the Water

Wednesday and Thursday Southern Door Wrestled at the Oshkosh Lourdes Oshkosh on the Water wrestling tournament.  This year the field consisted of 63 teams all from Wisconsin.  Each bracket included state place winners from Divisions I, II and III, and in many cases state champions from last year.  Great for a young team to see the level of wrestling they aspire to reach and in some cases get the chance to wrestle some state and nationally ranked opponents.

As a team we continue to improve and work with a great attitude.  Everyone looked better but we will need to take some big steps coming into the new year and the conference stretch of our season.  Individually we had four wrestlers fall one match short of qualifying for the second day of competition.  We'll look for each of those underclassmen to make it next year.  Hayden Jeanquart and Brodie Overbeck qualified for the second day but unfortunately lost in the first round on Thursday falling one match short of placing.

Next up is the Rocket Scramble next Saturday in Cedar Grove.  This has traditionally been a good tournament for all skill levels.  Looking forward to a good showing.

Eagles sink Clippers on 104.1 WRLU

Southern Door opened up a double digit lead early in the first half and carried a 37-18 lead into halftime.

The Clippers showed a little resistance early in the second half, but the Eagles overcame that run and added more to their lead courtesy of Sturgeon Bay turnovers.
