When the Algoma Wolves and Southern Door Eagles took the field against each other on Thursday looking for their first win, each team got to leave with that accomplishment. While neither team got the sweep, Southern Door took game one 11-4. Algoma would answer back to secure their first win of the season, 9-7. Both teams are 1-2 this season. Southern Door will play host to Gibraltar on Tuesday. Algoma will also play Gibraltar in their next game, but that will be sooner as they play the Vikings in a road matchup on Friday, starting at 4:30 PM.

A Packerland doubleheader to start the season for Southern Door and Algoma swayed in Southern Door’s favor on Thursday. Southern Door shutout Algoma in the first game, 14-0. Jaden Diller held the Wolves to zero hits in the win. Algoma was able to generate a run in game two, but it wasn’t enough as Southern Door would take the second game 16-1. Algoma will look to get in the win column when they host Gibraltar on Friday at 4:30 PM. For Southern Door, they also face Gibraltar in their next matchup, but that game is set for Tuesday at 4:30 PM.

 

One of the first area matchup in two years will take place on Thursday when Algoma and Southern Door square off. Both teams are 0-1 as Southern Door lost in nine innings 6-5 to Notre Dame Academy. Algoma lost a more lopsided matchup to Bayport, 14-2. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 PM in Algoma. 

A year off did not mean rust for senior Hailey Shimon in Tuesday's opening track meet of the year for Southern Door.

 

Her throw of over 125 feet rebroke her own school record and also captured an event win for the Eagles, which took fourth in the girls' meet portion.

 

On the boys' side, the Eagles finished with 74 points, which was good for second place behind Peshtigo. Event winners included Andrew Kluth in the 110M Hurdles, Kyle Conard in the long jump, and the 4X100M relay.

Southern Door's Jacob Norton shot the best round of any Door County golfer in the first Packerland Conference meet of the year on Thursday.

 

Norton shot a 47 on the day at Cherry Hills Golf Course. It was one of six sub-50 scores on the day. The Eagles took fourth overall, finishing behind Peshtigo, Oconto, and Sturgeon Bay.

Southern Door will be going for their third straight victory on Thursday, attempting to hold momentum heading into Saturday’s regional tournament. The Eagles will make their trek to Clintonville to face a 3-5 squad. The Eagles, fresh off of wins over Green Bay West and Kewaunee, come into the matchup with a record of 7-3. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:15 PM.

After dropping the first set to Kewaunee in their final home game this season, Southern Door put together three straight sets to capture a four set victory. The Storm won the opening set 25-14. After, the Eagles climbed back to tie the match with a 25-21 win. In set three, it was the Eagles taking full control with a 25-16 win. To seal the match, the Eagles won the fourth set 25-19. The win makes the Eagles overall record 7-3 and they will take on Clintonville on Thursday in Clintonville. Kewaunee is now 4-4 this season and will host Sturgeon Bay on Thursday.
