Baseball: Eagles collectively no-hit Clippers

The Southern Door Eagles weren’t able to hold Sturgeon Bay scoreless but they were able to hold them to no hits in their 11-1 victory in Sturgeon Bay on Friday. Jaden Diller and Christian Counard took the hill for the Eagles, and Counard had tallied ten strikeouts.

For the Eagles, Jack Peterson smashed a pitch for a two-run homer in the second inning. Devin Shinkgten went 3-4 on the day as well for Southern Door. With the loss, Sturgeon Bay is now 8-8 on the season overall. Southern Door improves to 11-4 overall this season. Both teams play Tuesday, when the Clippers host Peshtigo and the Eagles visit Oconto.

Baseball: Sturgeon Bay hosts conference leading Eagles

Sturgeon Bay will try to climb up the Packerland standings prior to the postseason when they play at home against the Southern Door Eagles, who have clinched the regular season title. The two teams met early in the season and the Eagles won by an 11-1 final score. The Eagles also won back to back games against Sevastopol and Green Bay NEW Lutheran to end last week. They have yet to play this week, which is the same as Sturgeon Bay after their game with Gibraltar was cancelled on Thursday. The Clippers fell to Kewaunee their last time out. First pitch for Friday’s contest is scheduled for 5:00 PM.

Softball: Eagles take out Clippers

Southern Door pushed the right buttons in their 15-0 win over Sturgeon Bay on Monday. Chloe Lustilla earned the shutout in the pitcher’s circle. The victory put Southern Door’s record at 7-7 overall, and they can go above .500 with a win Thursday when they host Kewaunee. For Sturgeon Bay, they will face Gibraltar on Thursday, who beat Sturgeon Bay 8-7 on May 11th.

Baseball: Eagles clinch conference top spot

Southern Door would get an added bonus on top of their three game win streak in the form of a conference championship. The Eagles would top the Blazers of Green Bay NEW Lutheran, 10-0. Southern Door played lights out in the field, as Christian Counard would give up just one hit and send thirteen batters back to the dugout on strikeouts. Aiden Vandertie would hit three doubles and Jack Peterson would send a home run over the fence. The Eagles remain undefeated in conference play and will be back in action on Friday when they play Sturgeon Bay.

Softball: Eagles go over twenty runs

Southern Door softball would dominate on Friday in their matchup with Green Bay NEW Lutheran. The Eagles won 22-1 are now winners in four of their last five outings. The win moves the Eagles record to 7-7 overall. The Eagles will be back in Packerland conference play on Monday. They take on the Clippers in Sturgeon Bay. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.

Baseball: Eagles look to stay perfect before break

Before Southern Door gets a week's worth of rest before their game next Friday, they will have to finish this week when they take on Green Bay NEW Lutheran. The Blazers had a loss to Oconto and a tight loss to Gibraltar this week. Their lone win of the season came against Algoma last Friday. For Southern Door, they are 7-0 in the Packerland and 11-4 overall. Friday’s game will begin at 5 PM in Green Bay.

Softball: Late innings doom Eagles

In Southern Door’s non-conference showdown with Reedsville, extra-innings were starting to look like a strong possibility before Reedsville connected for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Reedsville scored the first three runs with two in the first and one in the second inning. Southern Door would quickly answer in the top of the third inning with two runs and would get the tying run in the fifth. After Reedsville’s game-changing sixth inning, the Eagles would score two runs in the top of the seventh, falling short of a comeback. The final score would be Reedsville over Southern Door, 8-5.

Southern Door will face Green Bay NEW Lutheran on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM in Green Bay.

Southern Door edges Sturgeon Bay at Idlewild

Southern Door was still looking up at Peshtigo and Oconto at the end of its home golf meet at Idlewild Golf Course on Thursday, but they were still able to accomplish a season-long goal.

The Eagles scored 193 en route to a third-place finish, seven strokes better than Sturgeon Bay. Jacob Norton scored a county-team best 40 on the Par-36 course to lead the Eagles. The Bulldogs shot a 152 and the Blue Devils scored a 177 to pace the rest of the Packerland. Gibraltar and Sevastopol do not have enough golfers to compete on the team level.

LOCAL SCORES

Gibraltar: Teddy Roth 48, Peyton Thomas 49.

Sevastopol: Henry Bley 55, Jordyn Welch 63.

Southern Door: Jacob Norton 40, Nic Pierre 49, Jacob Pierre 52, Luke Olson 52.

Eagles win Wisconsin State High School Clay Target League

Southern Door's sharpshooting helped the school win its first Wisconsin State High School Clay Target League title.

FROM SOUTHERN DOOR SCHOOL DISTRICT FACEBOOK PAGE

The Southern Door School District Trap League just finished its first season and was a “smashing success” with 28 middle & high school students participating. Each student that participated received a Wisconsin State High School Clay Target League patch. The overall high gun for the season was Jacob Fritschler with an average of 22.33.

The success of this program was due to the school's providing students with this opportunity to try a sport that they can enjoy for a lifetime. Students’ 6th -12th grade participated. Without the inspiration and dedication of Kim Welch as head coach, and the Gardner Rifle Club’s awesome support, none of this would have been possible! We also would like to thank the following for their contributions: Beth Jeurink, Bryon Geisel, and Jacob VandenPlas (certified coaches); Linda Bunge (Covid screener); and Sue Fritschler (trap secretary) for all their time and effort. The club also appreciated the tremendous support from the parents of students involved.

Some of the students shot in both the Door County Youth Trap League as well as the Southern Door County District League. The two leagues combined for an end of the year FUN SHOOT. Top guns for the FUN SHOOT were: perfect scores of 25 were earned by Tyler Plzak with dad as his buddy and Trevin Veeser with dad as his buddy with another perfect score of 25; scores of 24 were earned by Lily Czoske with her buddy Coach Beth and Logan Blasier with Grandpa Gary Gould. To add to the celebration, the club would like to thank Econo Foods and Fish Farm & Game for the food and refreshments.

Baseball: Eagles, Storm looking to build on streaks

Only one team will get to stay hot when Southern Door and Kewaunee face off on Tuesday, each coming into the game with a streak of three straight wins. The Eagles will take the field on Tuesday in Kewaunee. It is the first time the two teams will square off this season. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.

Baseball: Eagles roll through Clippers

Southern Door’s Alex Daoust had a stellar day on the mound through just five innings in the Eagles 10-run win over Sturgeon Bay. Daoust would collect nine strikeouts and the Eagles would win by a final score of 11-1. The Eagles now have a 6-2-1 overall record. For the Clippers, the loss drops their record to 6-2 overall. The Clippers will be in the Rio tournament, while the Eagles will be off until Tuesday’s showdown with Kewaunee.
