Southern Door volleyball's Paye named Defensive Player of the Year

Five Southern Door players were named to the All-Packerland Conference volleyball team over the weekend, including the league's Defensive Player of the Year.

A second-team selection  at libero, Alanna Paye joined Peshtigo's Camryn Brissette as one of the Packerland's top players. Paye had over 530 digs in her senior season, including a season-high 31 in a five-set win over Kewaunee on September 25th.

Eagles fall to Valders in regional volleyball semis

After securing an opening round win on Tuesday, the Southern Door volleyball team saw their season come to a close on Thursday, falling to host Valders 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-20).

The Vikings were led by nine kills and two aces from Anna Olson, seven kills and an ace from Makenna Kaderabek. 11 digs from Mariah McCulley, and 19 assists from Audrey Wagner.

Eagles take down Indians, face Valders on the road Thursday

The Southern Door volleyball team is playing at home against Valders this Thursday for a WIAA Regional playoff game.

Southern Door opened its postseason run strong Tuesday night, defeating Mishicot 3-1 in the WIAA Regional Quarterfinals behind dominant stretches in the first, third, and fourth sets. The Eagles and Indians traded early points to start the night, tied 4-4 before Southern Door surged ahead 12-6, forcing a Mishicot timeout. The Eagles’ front line made their presence felt with key blocks and kills, closing the opening set 25-18. Mishicot responded in set two, taking advantage of Southern Door errors to build a 12-3 lead. The Eagles clawed back to within one at 16-15, but Mishicot held on to even the match with a 25-21 win. In the pivotal third set, Southern Door flipped the momentum with a burst of energy, turning a tight start into a commanding 15-7 lead that held through the finish, 25-15. The Eagles carried that control into set four, jumping ahead 15-6 and never looking back, closing the door on Mishicot 25-15 to seal the match.

The Vikings are coming off a 2-0 loss to Denmark.

The first serve is at 7:00 pm.

Eagles Fall to Indians In Season Finale on U-102.1

The Southern Door Eagles season finale did not go the way they would have hoped as they fell to the Mishicot Indians 40-8 on U102.1.

The game started with the teams exchanging long scoreless drives.  Those four drives would take the game deep into the second quarter before a 5-yard rush by Mishicot's quarterback Benjamin Backus broke open the scoring.  He would add a 4-yard touchdown yet in the half, and with each touchdown being complimented by a successful 2 point try, the Indians would lead 16-0 at the halftime break.

The second half did not start how the Eagles would have hoped when on the very first play of the opening drive, Backus would run for his third touchdown from 71-yards out.  Backus was far from the only Indian that broke down the Eagles defense.  Running back Jax Vogel did plenty of damage as well, carrying the ball over 20 times, including a pair of touchdowns.

The only Eagle touchdown of the game would come on a third quarter 1 yard keeper by Caleb Delwiche.

A special shoutout to the Seniors from this years squad who will be missed on the gridiron next season.

Eagles Wrap Up Season on U102.1

The Southern Door Eagles will wrap up their 2025 football season on the road Friday night, as they head to Mishicot on U102.1 and NEW Radio Sports Network.

The first season of the WIAA's new playoff calculation will leave Southern Door missing the playoffs.

A young Southern Door team is looking to build off last week's 54-0 victory over Sturgeon Bay in which five different Eagle's scored at least one touchdown.  They head down Highway 42 take on a 4-4 Mishicot squad that is fighting to remain in the playoff hunt.  Mishicot is coming of a 51-30 loss at the hands of the Marinette Marines and can secure their spot in the playoffs with a win, but could still make the field with a Friday night loss.

You can tune in for the action by joining Jacob Nate for the 6:45 PM pregame show, followed by kickoff at 7:00PM on U102.1 and NEW Radio Sports Network.

Eagles split in Saturday action at Brillion

Southern Door started their Saturday with a sweep of Green Bay West before falling to the tournament hosts Brillion in straight sets.

The Eagles opened with a dominant first set defeating West 25-9 and then closed the door with a 25-21 sweep.

They dropped both sets to Brillion and lost 0-2, but remained competitive throughout losing 25-15 and 25-18.

The Eagles, 3-4 and sixth in conference play, have a chance to swap places with the Pioneers who hold fifth at 3-3 in the Packerland. Southern Door, 15-12 on the season, has one remaining match with Sevastopol that will close out the regular season on Thursday October 16th at 7 p.m.

Eagles Shut Out Clippers on Senior Night on U-102.1

The Southern Door Eagles put on a show for their Senior night crowd, beating the Sturgeon Bay Clippers 54-0 on U102.1 in Brussels on Friday night.

The Eagle offense exploded in the first quarter.  After opting to receive rather than defer, the Eagles marched down the field and capped off a 5-play drive with a 7-yard Raymond Paye Touchdown.  The second drive had similar results, this time with Cruz Anschutz scoring on a 6-yard rush.  After another 3-0, the Clippers would punt, but after a slight mishandle, Lauden Berg would return the ball nearly 60 yards, setting up Paye to score from 5 yards out.

Twice more, the Eagles would score in the first quarter.  Each of these scores would come on single-play drives. First, Caleb Delwiche would find Lauden Berg for a 67-yard passing touchdown, followed by Raymond Paye's third rushing touchdown, this time a 34-yard rush, which set the game to a 34-0 score at the end of the first quarter.

Southern Door would send the game into a running clock early in the second quarter on a 29-yard Damontrae Meeks touchdown rush, followed by an 8-yard Gavin Geisel run and a 48-0 halftime score.

After halftime performances by both the Southern Door marching band and the Shakers cheer squad, the only score of the running clock second half came in the third quarter when the sixth different Eagle crossed the goal line.  This was another single-play drive, when William Price scampered in on a 47-yard counter touchdown run.

The Clippers would find offensive production with their second-string team on the last drive of the game.  After taking over deep in Eagle territory after an Eagle fumble, they would run out of time and be stopped at the 1-yard line as time expired.

As the teams enter the final week of the season, the Clippers head into their Homecoming week matchup against the Bonduel Bears, and the Southern Door Eagles hit the road to take on the Mishicot Indians.

Eagles Host Clippers on U102.1

The regular season's second-to-last week matchup features the Sturgeon Bay Clippers sailing down the coast to take on the Southern Door Eagles in Brussels on Friday at 7:00 pm.

The 0-7 Sturgeon Bay Clippers enter the matchup with an extra day of rest but are still looking for their first win of the season. They are coming off a loss in which they scored their first touchdown in 3 weeks.

Southern Door, on the other hand, suffered its second shutout loss of the season to fall to 2-5. They lost to probable Packerland Conference Champions Kewaunee.  QB Caled Delwiche and the Eagle offense could not get much production against a stingy Storm defense.

Jacob Nate will take you through the action, starting with the pregame show, which starts at 6:45 PM, followed by the 7:00 PM kickoff on U102.1 and NEW Radio Sports Network.

Southern Door sweeps Algoma on Pink Out Night

In a night dedicated to breast cancer awareness, the gym was glowing pink Tuesday as Southern Door and Algoma both took the court in special uniforms. The Eagles wore pink-and-white ombre and the Wolves in hot pink. A battle of their own ensued on the court, but Southern Door came out victorious in a three-set sweep.

The first set was tight early, as the teams traded points to a 10-10 tie before Southern Door began to find its rhythm. A mid-set run put the Eagles up 16-10, and they rode that momentum to a 25-10 opening-set victory.

Set two followed a similar pattern. After another 3-3 tie, Southern Door built an 8-3 advantage and later stretched it to 19-11 behind strong serving and solid defense. Algoma kept fighting, but the Eagles held on for a 25-18 win to take a 2-0 match lead.

In the third, Algoma made things interesting after Southern Door jumped out to a 21-13 lead. The Wolves battled back, forcing a late timeout from Southern Door at 24-20, but the Eagles closed it out 25-22 to complete the sweep.

Southern Door improves to 14-10 on the season and 3-3 in the Packerland conference and will play at Sturgeon Bay October 9th. Meanwhile, Algoma drops to 4-17 and 1-4 in conference matches, but returns home to face Sevastopol Thursday.

Eagles volleyball is taking on the Wolves

The Southern Door Eagles volleyball team is set to host the Algoma Wolves this Tuesday in a highly anticipated home game.

The Eagles are fresh off a 3-0 sweep against Gibraltar. Southern Door had many strong individual performances, including Senior Alanah Kaye with 6 kills, 3 aces, and a block assist. Other key contributors included Frankie Nellis with 7 kills, Ava Everard with 3 aces, Madyson Counard with 5 kills and a block assist, and Audrey Plzak with 2 aces.

The Algoma Wolves will be looking to rebound from a recent 3-1 loss to Sturgeon Bay. They have lost four of their last five matches, with a 2-1 tournament win over Two Rivers the exception during the stretch.

The first serve is at 7:00 pm.

Turner went 4-2 over the weekend at the War of the Roses Midwest Nationals in Indianapolis. That was good enough to finish in 3rd place overall and earn All-American honors at the national meet.

Veeser's school record leads Eagles to Panther Invite crown

The Southern Door girls cross country team took home the Panther Invite title thanks in part to its freshman phenom.

Malania Veeser's 5K time of 19:41 was not just good enough to take fourth place overall, but also set a new personal record and school record in the process. Teammate Emma Bousley also secured a Top 10 finish with her time of 20:13. The success helped them edge second-place Valders 63-65 for the win. On the boys' side, Colton Valley set a personal record with a 5K time of 18:18 to take 12th overall and help the team take seventh.

Eagle Face Storm on U102.1

As the 2025 football season enters the final month of the regular season, the Southern Door Eagles travel to take on the Kewaunee Storm on Friday night on U102.1 and NEW Radio Sports Network—the matchup features teams with two different goals for the final month.

Kewaunee enters the game with a 5-1 record with its sights on a Packerland Conference title. The only blemish on Kewaunee's record came in a non-conference, opening week loss to Racine Lutheran.  Two teams are chasing Kewaunee in the standings, sitting at 3-1 in the conference. The Storm beat Bonduel 14-7 back on September 12th, and they will close the season on October 17th against Marinette.

The Storm enters Friday night's matchup off a 55-0 shutout over the Sturgeon Bay Clippers.  It took just three plays for the storm to put the only points they would need on the board via a Waylon Delain 4-yard touchdown rush. In a recent interview with Kewaunee coach Randy Charles, he emphasized the importance of fundamental focus and refining small details for continued success. Looking ahead, Charles acknowledges Southern Door's explosive playmakers, noting they "will need to be accounted for in their game plan." Charles also reflected on the team's dominant 55-0 homecoming victory against Sturgeon Bay, noting that they successfully stayed focused despite distractions and capitalized on early scoring opportunities to cap off the homecoming week.

Southern Door on the other hand, is fighting to keep playoff hopes alive as the currently sit at a 2-4 overall 1-3 conference record.  The Eagles are coming of a heartbreaking 23-20 homecoming loss to the Oconto Blue Devils in which turnovers spelled disaster.  Multiple muffed punts set Oconto up with field position deep inside Eagle territory.  Even with the turnover battle being won handily by Oconto, the Eagles had the ball with under two minutes to go, and two timeouts remaining.  Oconto would force a turnover, however, and run the clock out on the Eagles' homecoming comeback hopes.

Join Jacob Nate with the call Friday night from Kewaunee on U102.1 and NEW Radio Sports Network beginning at 6:45 AM with the pregame show, followed by the 7:00 PM kickoff.

DCU is preparing for a duel against Shawano

The Door County United swim team is back in action this Thursday when they hit the road to Shawano for a dual meet.

DCU is coming off a first-place finish at the Plymouth Invitational. They won decisively with 425 points, 45 points ahead of Oregon. Several athletes delivered standout performances that contributed to the team's success. The 400-yard freestyle relay team, of Julia Michalski, Megan Quaderer, Amelia Michalski, and Kailyn Neville, earned a first-place finish. Individually, Kailyn Neville secured first-place finishes in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races; Julian Michalski won the 200-yard medley.

The races begin at 6:00 pm.
