Southern Door's bats came through in a big way Thursday with 18-5 and 4-1 victories over Sturgeon Bay.

 

Game 1: 18-5 Southern Door 

For Sturgeon Bay, Emmett Braschnewitz, Braeden Haines, and Curt Meyer all had one RBI each while Bennett Johnson led the pitchers in strikeouts with two. Southern Door was led offensively by jack Peterson and Logan Jeanquart, who each had four hits and combined to drive in seven runs. Christian Counard, Charlie Neinas, Jaden Diller, and Taylor Schaefer each had at least two hits and two RBI in the victory. Tyler Neinas picked up the victory for the Eagles.

 

Game 2: 4-1 Southern Door

Drew Daoust picked up the win in the game that did not count in the conference standings. Emmett Brascnewitz claimed an RBI for the Clippers while Danny Lodl led the pitchers in strikeouts with two. 

 

The Southern Door track teams flipped spots with Sturgeon Bay to capture one team title and second in another at the Door County Classic in Fish Creek on Monday.

 

The boys won the meet with 120 points while the girls took second with 71 points.

 

Ben Grota, Andrew Kluth, Kaden Borkovetz, Brodie Overbeck, Eli Mancheski, and two relays brought home gold for the boys while Danica Neville and Brooke Strege won events for the girls.

The Packerland Conference's tour of courses near member schools heads to Oconto this week. 

 

The Blue Devils have dominated Packerland play so far this season, winning meets in Sturgeon Bay and Peshtigo. Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door made runs at the Blue Devils last week though with both teams finishing single-digit strokes behind.

 

Tee time is set for 4 p.m. at Vernon Hills Golf Course.

The Southern Door softball team's offense could not get much going in a pair of losses Thursday against Peshtigo.

 

Ashlyn Delfosse took the loss in a 7-1 decision in game one. She finished with two strikeouts, but four walks plagued her afternoon.  Bethany Ahrens allowed the one unearned run and no hits while recording 13 strikeouts to lead the Bulldogs.

 

In game two, the Eagles' Chloe Lustila recorded the team's only hit on the day with a double. Lustila also took the loss int he second game, striking out four over four innings of play.

Oconto still won the meet, but Southern Door and Sturgeon Bay golfers made them sweat a little bit at Little River Golf Course in Peshtigo. 

 

The Blue Devils scored 185 on the course, while the Eagles scored 191 and the Clippers registered a 193 over nine holes. The other schools did not have enough golfers to qualify. Below are the top golfers for each team.

The Southern Door baseball team received plenty of good pitching in their 10-0 and 6-2.

 

In game one, freshman Tyler Neinas was a walk away from a perfect game. He allowed no hits while striking out five in the Eagles’ win. Jack Peterson had three hits including a double for the Eagles, while Logan Jeanquart and Jared Hawkey each record a pair of hits.

 

In game two, the good pitching continued with Christian Counard going the distance. He allowed just four hits while striking out 10 in the Eagles victory.

The Southern Door softball and baseball teams will stay in Brussels for games Thursday against Peshtigo. 

 

In softball, Peshtigo won its only game so far earlier this week when they beat Algoma 4-3 while Southern Door is looking for their first win of the season.

 

In baseball, the Eagles have split their first two games, last beating Shiocton 9-1 on April 12th. The Bulldogs have split their four games so far this season, including a 6-5 loss to Algoma on Tuesday.

 

The doubleheaders begin at 4:30 p.m.

The Seymour Thunder rolled to a 11-1 win in five innings over the Southern Door Eagles on Tuesday.  The Thunder outhit the Eagles 12-3 and jumped to 9-1 lead after three innings to take control of the game. 

Four local schools will head to Brussels for the first outdoor track meet of the season on Tuesday.

 

Algoma, Kewaunee, and Sturgeon Bay will also be competing against Southern Door when field events begin at 4 p.m. and track events start at 4:30 p.m.
