3000 for Daoust, and Victory for Eagles on U-102.1

The Southern Door Eagles can tick another few boxes on the season after beating the Oconto Blue Devils 69-54 in the regular season.  The victory caps off an undefeated conference schedule, finishing 21-3 overall, 16-0 in conference.  Drew Daoust also reached the next of his many career milestones late in the game.

The game was not easy as the Blue Devils played some of the toughest defense the Eagles saw all season.  After jumping up to an early lead, the Eagle found themselves trailing for a majority of the first half thanks to hot hands from behind the arc for Oconto.  Two different players made a trio of threes in the first half.  The Eagles were led in the first half by Drew Daoust with 13, and Caden Pierre used a pair of threes to follow him with 9. The Eagles at one point found themselves trailing by 14, but only trailed 31-40 at half.

The second half started back and forth, and the nerves of trying to get Drew Daoust the 23 points he needed to reach the 3000-career mark calmed slightly coming out of half.  After climbing all the way back to a 50-50 tie, and a brief exchange of leads, Drew Daoust would drive off a Tyler Neinas screen and put the ball in for his 3001st career point.  Once that milestone was reached, it was all but over for Oconto. Momentum has fully swung into the Eagles favor.  The team started to play their normal brand of relaxed basketball, frustrating the Blue Devils en route to outscoring them 37-14 in the second half.

The frustration reached a boiling point late in the game and sealed the deal as the Blue Devils earned not 1...not 2...but 3 technical fouls in a single sequence of events in the closing minutes.  This swing sent the Eagles to the free throw line for 6 consecutive technical free throws, and an entire lineup change as the subs were able to replace the starting squads to cap of the final 15-point victory for the Eagles.   Leading scorers for the Eagles were Drew Daoust with 34, Caden Pierre with 14, and Lauden Berg with 8.

The Eagles will have a bye in Level 1 of the WIAA playoffs, and await a Friday night home game against either Crivitz or St. Mary Catholic.  The Eagles game will be broadcast on U102.1 and the New Radio Sports Network.

Daoust chases 3,000 points as Eagles host Blue Devils on U-102.1

Drew Daoust could become the second player in Wisconsin State High School Basketball history to reach 3,000 points on Thursday when the Packerland Conference champion Southern Door Eagles host Oconto in the regular season finale.

Averaging more than 32.7 ppg, Daoust sits just 23 points away from the milestone, allowing him to join Wausaukee's Anthony Pieper in the exclusive 3,000-point club. He has scored at least 30 points four times in his last five games, including two games of 40-plus. The team is 4-1 on that stretch, with a loss to state-ranked Roncalli, the lone blemish on the resume. They clinched the Packerland Conference last week with a win over Kewaunee.

The Eagles will face another all-time scorer when the Blue Devils come to town. Carter Koch passed Laken James earlier this year for the all-time scoring mark in school history for boys and girls basketball. He enters the contest with 1,765 points in his career, averaging 17.6 ppg and over 20 ppg the last years. The Blue Devils are 18-5 on the season and fourth place in the Packerland Conference, having won their last eight games.

Jacob Nate and Bryan Mazur will be on the call on U-102.1 beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.

Daoust, Eagles burn Blazers as milestone nears

Drew Daoust stands just 23 points away from 3,000 points in his career after leading Southern Door past NEW Lutheran 83-37.

Daoust paced the Eagles with 23 first-half points as they raced out to a 54-18 lead. He was not the only one who put the pressure on the Blazers offensively with Caden Pierre and Lauden Berg also reaching double figures in the opening frame. Daoust ended up leading all scorers with 35 points, while Pierre poured in 17 points, and Berg added 12 points. The Eagles' defense made it difficult to get into an offensive groove, as they made only seven shots from the field in either half. Reid Nelson did the bulk of his work in the first half as he ended the night with 12 points, while two others chipped in eight points.

Daoust could reach 3,000 points on Thursday when the Eagles play Oconto in Brussels. Jacob Nate will have the call on U-102.1 beginning at 6:45 p.m., followed by the tip-off at 7 p.m.

Eagles wrestlers come up just short in sectional

Two Southern Door wrestlers battled their way into medal contention, but not high enough to extend their season to next weekend's state tournament in Madison.

Clark LeFevre (120), Ethan Alexander (138), and Lance Veeser (165) all recorded at least one win on the day, battling their way through wrestlebacks to give them a chance in the third-place match to punch their ticket to the state tournament. All came up just short in their final match of the day.

Southern Door girls wrestling come up empty at Menasha Sectional

Two Southern Door girls wrestlers came painfully close to qualifying for next week's state tournament after falling in the second-place match at the Menasha Sectional on Friday.

Nora LeFevre won two of her contested matches at 107 pounds, but getting pinned by Irelyn Woolhether (Campbellsport) in the second round cost her a chance at Madison as she lost via no contest in the second-place match. Sydney Turner also came up empty in the second-place match after winning her first two matches of the day. Portia Hah and Attyson Wilson suffered second-period defeats by pin in their only matches of the night.

Eagles Clinch Title with Win over Storm on U-102.1

A third straight Packerland Conference title was clinched on Friday night as the Southern Door Eagles beat the Kewaunee Storm 85-71 in Brussels.

Drew Daoust had a big night.  Just seconds into the game, he would hit a stepback three, which put his career total at the 2900 mark.  That was just the first of his game-leading 45 points.  He hit 8 total three-pointers and finished the night with 45 points.  Head Coach Josh Vandenbush said he wants to get Drew to the 3000 mark in the regular season, and after this game, he is just 58 shy of that mark. Three other Eagles finished in double digits as well.  Nick Beck contributed 14, Caden Pierre added 10, and Tyler Neinas did all his damage in the second half and finished with 11.

The Storm were also very hot from behind the arc in the game, making 12 threes as a team as well.  The leading scorer for Kewaunee was freshman Diesel Bosdeck, who hit 7 from behind the arc on their way to his 23 points.  Avery Jerabek was just behind him with 20 points, 15 of which came in the second half.  The Storm would make a push late in the second half to climb within six while Daoust was on the bench after picking up his fourth foul, but would not be able to keep up once Drew came back in.

The victory clinched the title for the Eagles with two games to go in the regular season.  They play NEW Lutheran on Monday and Oconto on Thursday. The Oconto vs Southern Door game will be broadcast on U102.1

The Storm also enter selection weekend with 2 games left.  Monday's game is hosting Sturgeon Bay before they wrap up the regular season on the road versus Algoma.

Eagles Host Storm with Conference Title in Reach

Eagles Host Storm with Conference Title in Reach

Friday night's matchup in Brussels between the Kewaunee Storm and the Southern Door Eagles could determine the Packerland Conference Champion for 2025.  The Eagles, who remain undefeated in the conference, have a 2-game lead over the Storm with just 3 games to play.  Algoma is the other team in contention but need help as they trail the Eagles by 2.5 games.

This is the second matchup between the two as the first game which came back on January 14th in Kewaunee was won by the Eagles 64-61. The first half saw a defensive struggle, with both teams making life tough for each of the offenses.  Southern Door led by as many as eight points, but the Storm battled back to trail just 27-25 at halftime.

The second half was a see-saw affair, with the Eagles taking a five-point lead with under two minutes to play, only to see the Storm cut it to two points with under four seconds to play. After Eagles’ Lauden Berg split two free throws to make it 64-61, a desperation three-pointer from 30 feet by Connor Kilgore just missed the mark for the Storm, and the Eagles prevailed.

Jacob Nate will have the call from Brussels starting with the pregame show beginning at 6:45, followed by tipoff at 7:00.

Pierre, Daoust lead Eagles past Vikings on 105.1 The GOAT

Caden Pierre's hot shooting in the first half gave Drew Daoust time to warm up in the second half as Southern Door toppled Gibraltar in Fish Creek Tuesday 74-38.

Pierre and Gibraltar' Kayin Jackson traded threes early in the first half before the Eagles switched up its defense and forced their hosts to go cold for nearly six minutes. Pierre hit four of his six three pointers in the first half to pace the Eagles. Jeffrey Mize came alive late in the second half to not just break the scoring drought but lead the Vikings with seven first-half points.

After being held to seven points, Daoust found his stride in the second half, scoring 22 points after the break to end up three points shy of 2,900 points. The Eagles' defense continued its stranglehold on the Vikings offense, allowing just seven made shots from the field. Jackson ended his day with a team-high 13 points while Mize chipped in 10 points. Complementing Daoust was 18 points from Pierre and nine points from Lauden Berg.

The Eagles are back in action on Friday when they play Kewaunee at home on U-102.1 while the Vikings' homestand continues on Friday against Sturgeon Bay on 105.1 The GOAT.

Southern Door's Delfosse joins exclusive list in loss to NEW Lutheran

Despite a 49-31 loss to NEW Lutheran on Monday night, Southern Door senior Ashlyn Delfosse could walk off the court with a smile after registering her 1000th point in her high school career.

The milestone-marking bucket came in the opening minutes of the first half as the Eagles trailed the Blazers early.

Delfosse went on to score 17 points in the Eagles defeat. She will have at least two games to pad onto her totals before the season concludes. Delfosse joins Trista Wotochek (1,060), Tonya DeBroux (1,093), Meghan LaCrosse (1,119), Nicole Norton (1,133), Cheyanne McFarlin (1,135), and Nikki Malcore (1,317) as the only players to score 1,000 or more points in Eagles girls basketball history.

Eagles boys soar past Wolves

Four Southern Door players scored in double figures as the Eagles cruised to a 85-46 win over Algoma in a Saturday matinee.

The two teams combined to hit 23 shots from behind the arc with Algoma's Parker Lischka and Southern Door's Drew Daoust hitting four. James Fish and Tyler Neinas also hit three three-pointers, while Nick Beck and Caden Pierre registered two apiece. It led to a high scoring 43-24 first half in favor of the Eagles in a game that only grew more lopsided from there.

Daoust led all scorers with 31 points, staying on pace to reach 3,000 points during the last week of the regular season. The Eagles also got 13 points from Neinas and 11 from Pierre and Lauden Berg. The Wolves countered with 18 points from Lischka and six points from Chase Romdenne and Charlie Prokash.

Veeser leads Eagles at Omro Regional

Three Southern Door wrestlers are heading to next weekend's sectional tournament after successful days at the Omro Regional.

Lance Veeser set the tone for the Eagles with his championship at 165 pounds with three wins. Clark LeFevre split his matches at 120 pounds to take third place while Ethan Alexander kept his season alive with a win in the fourth place match at 138 pounds.

Daoust's march toward 3000 continues vs. Algoma

Drew Daoust can take another big step towards a huge milestone on Saturday when Southern Door welcomes Algoma to the Eagle Gym for a matinee.

Daoust took a big step toward 3000 points in their 78-66 loss to Roncalli earlier this week with 43 points. The Eagles could not hold onto their two-point halftime lead thanks in part to Daoust's 18 first-half points. Daoust would go on to hit 11 shots from the field as the Eagles fell off the pace in the second half. Lauden Berg scored 14 points in the loss for the Eagles. Daoust enters the matchup with 2837 points and is on track to eclipse 3000 points during the final week of the regular season.

The Wolves enter the matchup following a 73-44 win over Sevastopol on Tuesday. Parker Lischka made his own dose of history as he registered his 1000th point in the contest. Lischka dropped in 35 points, 22 of which came in the first half, and topped the milestone of 1,000 with about 10 minutes to go in the game. Braeden Leist added 19 more points for the Wolves and now sit two games behind the Eagles in the Packerland standings tied with Kewaunee.

Tip-off, weather permitting, is set for 2 p.m.

Daoust's big night not enough for Eagles to land Jets

Drew Daoust's journey towards 43 points took another big step forward, but Southern Door suffered a setback at home on Monday night, falling to state-ranked Roncalli 78-66.

It was a tale of two halves for the Jets' Maddix Gulseth and Matthew Bonin, who paced the Jets with 28 and 22 points respectively. Gulseth did his damage in the first half with 17 points in the opening frame while Bonin closed things out for the Jets with all of his points (including six three-pointers) coming after the break. Donovan Crowley did his part for the Jets as well as he registered 17 points.

The Eagles could not hold onto their two-point halftime lead thanks in part to Daoust's 18 first half points. Daoust would go on to hit 11 shots from the field as the Eagles fell off the pace in the second half. Lauden Berg scored 14 points in the loss for the Eagles.

Eagles Fight Off Pioneers, Stay Perfect in Conference

The Sevastopol Pioneers would fight until the final buzzer, but the Eagles would leave Saturday afternoon's game in Brussels with a 68-52 victory. On what was Senior Day for Southern Door, the elder team handled business, thanks in part to the eight seniors wearing Eagle uniforms.

As has been the case all season, Sevastapol kept Drew Daoust under wraps for most of the first half. However, another Eagle stepped up to fill the void. Lauden Berg led either team in scoring in the first half, finishing with 19. Even though the Pioneers limited Daoust to 23 points in the game, the Eagles still held a 33-19 halftime lead.

Southern Door would build up to a 20-point lead several times in the second half, but the Pioneers would not go away without a fight.  Bo Tanck scored all of his 10 points in the second half, trailing only Logan Schuh, whose eleven points led the way for Sevastopol.  Lucas Delsart would add 7 Pioneer points as well.

Each team's next matchup will come Tuesday night.  Sevastopol will play host to Algoma, and Southern Door will host Crivitz.
