Eagles girls' basketball taking on Pioneers

The Southern Door girls basketball team hosts Packerland Conference foe Sevastopol on Thursday. The Pioneers sit fifth in the Packerland Conference with a 2-5 league record, while the Eagles are tied for seventh at 1-6.

The teams met earlier this season, with Sevastopol edging Southern Door 42-38.

The Eagles are coming off a 48-42 win over Roncalli, while the Pioneers look to bounce back from a 46-34 loss to Gillett. Sevastopol was led by Braelyn Staats, who recorded a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and a steal. Sienna Cain also posted a double-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Eagles' Girls Defeat Jets On the Road

Southern Door (2-12) picked up their second win on the season in a road matchup with a struggling Roncalli team, 48-42.

The low scoring affair was close throughout, but the Eagles were able to pull away in the final minutes forcing the Jets to foul and after some made free throws, pushed the win in favor of the visitors.

Southern Door has faced their fair share of struggles this season, but is entering a stretch where they have lots of opportunities. They look to continue strong defensive play and convert more efficiently on offense as they will get a second opportunity at Sevastopol Wednesday January 22 at 7 p.m. The Pioneers took the first matchup by two scores, 42-38.

Last Second Heave Comes up Short for Southern Door

In a game where the Eagles exchanged leads with the Oconto Blue Devils multiple times, it came down to a final possession with Southern Door trailing 49-51 and after they missed a pair of free throws forced an Oconto turnover.

The turnover came with 3.8 seconds left and the Eagles were forced into a last ditch effort from beyond half-court that fell short and they took the loss.

Missed opportunities late was the storyline beyond the last second attempt as the Eagles had two possessions with a chance to tie the game in the final minute, but came up empty twice.

Lauden Berg finished with 14 including 12 of the Eagles 24 points in the first half. Dawson Schwartz joined him in double figures with 11 points highlighted by three second half triples. Lars Saldana matched Berg with 14 for Oconto.

Southern Door played a competitive game throughout and that shouldn't go unnoticed even if the win column won't show it. The Eagles will play again at Peshtigo Thursday at 7 p.m.

Eagles push Bulldogs to the limit

Southern Door girls basketball has seen an increase in competitiveness in their last two games and against Peshtigo Saturday they took a lead going into halftime, 28-25. Offensively, the Eagles moved the ball well and got good looks that they were able to convert into quick buckets at crucial times helping to stretch a 5-point lead in the first half and hold the advantage at the break. However, in the second half, Peshtigo took control and a run late in the second half to run away with the game, 59-49. The Bulldogs used strong defensive possessions to allow for more opportunities which they ultimately converted. The Eagles continue to see growth and will be on the road Tuesday at Roncalli (1-13) looking for their second win of the season as the game tips at 7 p.m.

Southern Door can't pull off upset win

After a slow start to the season, the Southern Door boys have been playing strong basketball  as of late behind a dynamic offense.

They traveled to Green Bay for a date with N.E.W. Lutheran Friday night came out on the wrong side of a one point game, 60-59, almost pulling off an upset in the conference.

Lutheran (8-3) just barely holds on after the Eagles (2-9) nearly completed another late game comeback for the win, but their efforts fall just short. Southern Door's last three games combined have been decided by 4 points, two being one score losses.

However, the Eagles have been consistently putting up strong offensive numbers and will face conference leaders Kewaunee tomorrow at 4 p.m. for a chance to really shake things up.

Strong ball movement keeps Southern Door off-balance

Menominee Indian (8-4) took their time with offensive possessions meticulously working the ball around the floor until opportunities arose. It kept Southern Door off-balance and slowed them down on both ends of the floor as Menominee defeated the Eagles 62-22.

The second half for the Eagles was stronger as slight adjustments defensively took away opportunities from Menominee, however, it wouldn't be enough.

Southern Door has started the season 1-9 and looks forward to a rematch with Sevastopol and Sturgeon Bay later this month, games in which they lost by five points combined the first time around.

Eagles boys earn first win against Marines, face Vikings on 105.1 The GOAT Tuesday

The Southern Door Eagles boys basketball team got an extra dose of confidence heading into its conference matchup on Tuesday against Gibraltar when they beat Marinette 64-57 for their first win of the season.

The Eagles blitzed the Marines from the opening period thanks in part to 24 first-half points from Lauden Berg to stake the team to a 30-14 halftime lead. The Marines did chip away at the deficit in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 43-34 after the break thanks to Kaden Ducane scoring 14 of his team-high 16 points. Berg kept the pressure on the Marines in the second half to end his evening with a game-high 34 points. Complementing Berg for the Eagles were 10 points from Talon Mueller and seven points from Ryker Lohrey.

Eagles boys look to bounce back against Marinette

The Southern Door boys basketball team will keep their toes in non-conference waters for another night when they host Marinette on Monday.

The Eagles offense and defense came out swinging in the second half, preventing the Spartans from putting a single point on the board for the first 10 minutes of the half while on a 14-0 run.  During the run, Lauden Berg would score nearly all of his game high 18 points, helping cut the game to a much closer 31-34 tally.  Rhyker Lohrey and Talon Mueller each added 9 in the game. The Spartans would finally get back in to the scoring column with a 3 by Bryce Piesler.  The teams would trade buckets from that point on until in the final 2 minutes, the Spartan defense began forcing turnovers, and thanks to early foul trouble blew the game back open to its eventual 56-42 final.

The Marines saw a four-game skid snapped when they beat the Pioneers 63-50. Connor Eastman played a signficant role in that decision, scoring 17 of his game-high 28 points after the break with Kaden Ducane and Max Jacobson also reaching double figures.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Eight place as Eagles wrestling shoot up Rocket Scramble leaderboard

There was plenty of hardware flying around on the Southern Door wrestling bus coming home from the Cedar Grove-Belgium Scramble, including one for the entire team.

For the second year in a row, the Southern Door girls' wrestling team won the Rocket Scramble as they boasted four champions including tournament MVP Nora LeFevre, who record five pins on the day. Skya Scrimgeour, Portia Hah,  and Sydney Turner also won their brackets while Tiana Hah was a runner-up.

The boys had their own share of success with three wrestlers finishing in the top five. Lance Veeser won his bracket, Clark LeFevre took second, and Chance Dekeyser came in fifth place overall.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans and Southern Door Eagles open the 2026 portion of the season as they meet Friday night on U102.1 in Brussels.

The Eagles still seek their first win after dropping their two Green Bay Preble Holiday Tournament games to Green Bay Preble and Mosinee, falling to 0-6 on the season.  Eli Jadin led the way for Southern Door with 13 in a 75-40 loss versus Preble. Scoring was harder to come by against Mosinee, dropping the game 74-19 and Landen Berg grabbed six points in the second half to lead the Eagles.

Luxemburg Casco ended 2025 with a big win at the Kress Center, taking down Green Bay Southwest by a score of 68-50 in the Shawano Hoops Holiday Classic, as heard on 104.1 WRLU. Mason Trimberger built on a big first half to help lead LC to victory, scoring a game high 22 points en route to the win.  Ethan Ropson, coming off a career high 16 point game against Algoma, added 13 points, with Mason Burmeister totaling 12 points.
