Southern Door's Ben Grota was one of several local runners to post a personal record at Thursday's Panther Invitational hosted by Reedsville.

Grota covered the 5K course in 17:14 to take fifth overall as all seven Eagles runners registered new personal bests.

The Kewaunee boys took 6th with 163 points and the Southern Door boys took seventh with 170 points at the Panther Invitational. It was the same thing on the girls side, but with Kewaunee scoring 171 points and Southern Door registering 214.

The Southern Door volleyball team made quick work of Kewaunee on Thursday, beating their hosts in straight sets.

The scores in those sets were 25-21, 25-21, 25-19.

Leading the way for the Eagles were Kendra Shimon (11 kills), Paige Olson (10 kills), Greta Gutschow (16 digs), Bella Price (14 digs), and Alaina Shimon (31 Assists).

The Southern Door Eagles clinched their playoff spot last week, and will now look to keep their undefeated season going as they battle it out on the football field against the Oconto Blue Devils. 

Southern Door (6-0 Overall, 4-0 Packerland), have been cruising through their season so far, and have Oconto in their sights this week. The rushing game has gotten a big jolt from Zack Lynch, as he has ran for a combined 8 touchdowns in games against Peshtigo and Marinette. The passing offense is always there for the Eagles to rely on as well, as Drew Daoust has multiple options to throw the ball to, in Jared Hawkey, Jack Peterson, Braylon Berg and others. The Eagles will also look to keep the Blue Devils offense in check, as through 4 games, the starting defense of the Eagles has not let up any of the 12 points scored against them. 

Oconto (3-3 Overall, 1-3 Packerland), has struggled after a strong start out of the gate. The Blue Devils were 3-0 and sitting at the top of the Packerland conference after beating Oconto Falls, Roncalli, and Peshtigo. Oconto has then taken a loss in their last three games, being outscored 106-21 to the likes of Sturgeon Bay, Mishicot, and Kewaunee. Oconto will have to get their defense set and ready for the Eagles offense, who is averaging 32.5 points per game this season. 

The game is set for a 7:00 kickoff from Oconto. 

The Southern Door volleyball team will stay in Brussels on Tuesday when NEW Lutheran pays the Eagles a visit.

The Eagles are 12-9 on the year with a 2-1 conference mark. It picked up wins over Sturgeon Bay and Menasha during its weekend stay at the Valders Invite.

The Blazers are 14-9 this season with a 3-1 mark in the Packerland. They lost to Sturgeon Bay in its last match, which is part of a current rough stretch where they have been defeated in six of their last eight matches.

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

The Door County United swimming team looks to continue its dominating start to the season when it travels to Clintonville on Tuesday.

The Door County United (DCU) girls high school swim team’s winning streak continued with their win at the Plymouth High School Invite on Saturday September 24th. Eight teams competed in the invite and DCU won it all with a total of 518 points. The second place team, Oregon High School, scored 510 points. DCU held the lead from the 3rd event of the meet until the 8th event. Then Oregon held the lead through the 10th event of the afternoon. By the 11th event, DCU only had a 10 point lead over Oregon. The 12th and final event of the afternoon was the 400 yard freestyle relay. Oregon’s relays were seeded higher than both of the DCU relays. DCU’s B relay, consisting of Natalia Michalski (SBHS), Isabella Jimenez Seyfer (SBHS), Caitlyn Hasenjager (SEV), and Chloe Bissen (SBHS) was originally seeded 9th and placed 4th overall. They assisted the team with 30 additional points which sealed the win for DCU. Sanya Wienke (SBHS) scored 33 points in her individual events alone, both of which were best times of the season as well. Danica Neville (SDHS) scored 29 points in her individual events, including a 3rd place finish overall in the 100 yard backstroke. Shambo Wienke (SBHS) was a last minute replacement for an injured swimmer. In her first varsity invite appearance she had her best time in the 200 yard freestyle this season, where she broke the 3 minute mark. The DCU swim team fought for this win at Plymouth and their efforts were well rewarded.

The Door County United (DCU) Girls High School Swim Team success continues on with their junior varsity and varsity wins over New London High School on 9/23/22. The junior varsity team score was 91-45 and the varsity team score was 131-39. Junior varsity swimmer Paula Wienke (SBHS) broke 3:00 in the 200 yard individual medley and broke :30 seconds in her 50 freestyle during the 200 yard freestyle relay. Another stand out junior varsity swimmer of the meet was Rose Schommer (SBHS) who had her best time in the 50 yard freestyle, dropping over 5 seconds from the beginning of the season. Varsity swimmer Caitlyn Hasenjager (SEV) assisted the team with her second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle and her 4th place finish in the 100 yard freestyle. Danica Neville (SDHS) finished second in the 200 yard individual medley and with her best split time in the 50 fly of that event. Sanya Wienke (SBHS) had her best time in the 100 yard fly, which also was the first place finish for the night. The remainder of the varsity events were all won by DCU swimmers as well.

The meet, which was originally scheduled for September 13th, will start with its first events at 6 p.m.

Southern Door took down the Peshtigo Bulldogs by a score of 40-0 on their homecoming night. 

The Eagles moved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Packerland conference and officially clinched a spot in the WIAA playoffs. The Eagles were led on offense once again by a dynamic performance from Junior Running Back Zack Lynch. Lynch put up 147 yards rushing with 4 touchdowns on the night, leading the Eagles offense to 40 points. Drew Daoust was able to put up 2 touchdowns as well as the offense was not able to be stopped. Southern Door had 3 players with over 10 tackles, with Jonas Jandrin making 13 tackles, Derek Schinktgen having 10, and Taylor Schaefer rounding the team out with 17 total tackles. 

Peshtigo fell to 0-6 on the season with 4 losses in the Packerland conference. The Bulldogs have not been able to get their offense going as they were blanked once again on the season, this time against the Eagles. 

Southern Door will travel to Oconto next week, as Peshtigo stays home against another winless team in conference play, Marinette. 

It was a different race but the same result for Southern Door's Brooke Strege at the Bremser Invite in Mishicot.

Her personal record time of 20:23 paced the field among small school participants. She helped lead the Eagles to a seventh-place finish with 179 points.

The Eagles' Ben Grota ran well in the boys' race, setting a season record time of 17:56. The team, which all either set personal or season records, took 11th with 235 points.

The Southern Door volleyball team earned a convincing victory on Thursday as they swept all three sets from Oconto.

The scoring for each set was nearly identical, with the Eagles winning 25-21, 25-16, 25-21.

Leading the way for the Eagles were Paige Olson (8 kills, 3 aces), Kendra Shimon (8 kills), Alaina Shimon (6 aces, 23 assists), and Greta Gutschow (11 digs). 

The Southern Door Eagles will be playing homecoming host to the Peshtigo Bulldogs, as Southern Door looks to stay perfect so far on the season. 

The Eagles (5-0 Overall, 3-0 Packerland), will be looking to lock up a playoff spot with a win against the Bulldogs, with what would be 4 wins in their conference making them eligible. The Eagles cannot sleep on the hungry for a win Peshtigo Bulldogs though, as their run defense only allowed one touchdown last week to the Sturgeon Bay Clippers. Zach Lynch has been a rising star, as he has put up impressive stats every week since he started getting touches. Southern Door will have a loud crowd behind them, and look to send them home happy with a win over Peshtigo. 

The Bulldogs (0-5 Overall, 0-3 Packerland), are still looking for their first win after losing to the Sturgeon Bay Clippers 40-14 last week. Peshtigo will look to play spoilers for the Eagles, after their homecoming was spoiled by the Clippers. The Bulldogs will have to get their offense going to be able to hang with the Eagles. 

Kickoff is set for 7:00 from Brussels. 

The Door County United Swimming teams heads back to the Sturgeon Bay YMCA pool Thursday night as they host New London.

The Door County United (DCU) Girls Swim Team brought home yet another win against Plymouth High School on Thursday 9/15/22. The junior varsity team's final score was 74-43, and the varsity team's final score was 122-52. The team scored points in all varsity events of the evening. Top scorers for the varsity team included Christy Braun (SBHS) and Cassie Rankin (SEV), who both finished first place in their individual events for the evening. Isabella Jimenez Seyfer (SBHS) assisted the team with top 5 finishes in all of her varsity events. Especially with her 3rd place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, where she beat her opponent by .03 seconds. Brooke Strege (SDHS) was yet another swimmer who finished in the top 3 for all her individual events, which helped the team score an additional 8 points. Overall the team’s hard work is paying off with success against teams of all sizes.

The Door County United (DCU) remains undefeated in conference matchups with their win against Wittenberg Birnamwood High School. Both the junior varsity and varsity defeated their opponents in the conference dual. Junior varsity swimmer Hannah Schley (SDHS) successfully completed the butterfly leg of the 200 yard medley relay for the first time in her swimming career. The team finished in first place in all but 2 varsity events. Varsity swimmer Regan Kasten (SBHS) took first place overall in the 500 yard freestyle, a race she had never swam before in her career. She was followed by Brooke Strege (SDHS) and Kailyn Nevillle (SDHS). The three finishes totaled 13 points for the team. Cassie Rankin (SEV), Brooke Strege (SDHS), Caitlyn Hasenjager (SEV), and Sanya Wienke (SBHS) finished off the meet and sealed the deal with a first place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The girls finished 15 seconds faster than the second place team.

The first event begins at 6 p.m.

The Southern Door Eagles moved to 5-0 on the season after routing the Marinette Marines 34-6 in Marinette. 

Southern Door's offense was moving the ball on night on the Marines defense, and that was enough for Zack Lynch to have his breakout game of the year. Lynch rushed the ball 18 times for 269 yards and four touchdowns, scoring all but one touchdown for the Eagles. Drew Daoust was able to run one in from one yard out, but did not do much through the air. The defense was lead in tackles by Taylor Schaefer, who racked up 12 total tackles, and Alaric Urban forced a fumble for Southern Door. 

Marinette falls to 1-4 and 0-3 in the Packerland conference after back to back losses against Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door. The Marines did not score until late in the fourth quarter, as the offense was not able to get anything done. 

Southern Door will stay home to take on the Peshtigo Bulldogs next week, on their homecoming night.

The Southern Door Eagles were able to take one set, but the Peshtigo Bulldogs took the other three in Packerland Conference volleyball action on Thursday.

The set scores were 25-18, 20-25, 22-25, 22-25 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Standing out for the Eagles according to head coach Lisa Kain were Kendra Shimon (18 kills, 11 digs), Alaina Shimon (39 assists, 13 digs), and Paige Olson (8 kills, 5 aces, 3 blocks).

The Southern Door Eagles will travel up to the Upper Peninsula border to take on the Marines of Marinette. 

Southern Door (4-0 Overall, 2-0 Packerland), survived a tough matchup against the Bonduel Bears, escaping with a 6-0 win. The Eagles were able to score by a 6 yard touchdown pass to Jack Peterson to put the Eagles up 6-0, and the score stayed that way for good. Drew Daoust will be looking to bounce back after his first start of the season being held under 100 yards by the Bears defense. Zack Lynch has been a spark for this Eagles running game, and had 122 yards last week. The Eagles offense will look to get back on their feet against Marinette, who allowed 49 points to the Sturgeon Bay Clippers last week. 

Marinette (1-3 Overall, 0-2 Packerland), got off to a fast start last week against Sturgeon Bay, but fell flat, giving up 29 points in the second half. The Marines will have to cut down on their turnovers against the Eagles, as they gave the ball away to the Clippers a total of 6 times last week, with 5 interceptions and a fumble being the final turnover total. 

The game is set for 7:00 P.M. in Marinette. 

The Southern Door Eagles girls volleyball team will stay home to take on the Peshtigo Bulldogs in a Packerland conference matchup. 

The Eagles (7-4 Overall, 0-1 Packerland), recently took a hard fought loss to the Sevastopol Pioneers in 4 sets, but rebounded well to take second place in a weekend tournament in Ripon on Saturday. Southern Door will look to get to .500 in the Packerland conference, having played one less conference game behind everyone else in the conference. The Eagles will lean on players like Paige Olsen and Kendra Shimon to have a big night against the Bulldogs who are off to an impressive start so far this season. 

Peshtigo (11-8 Overall, 2-0 Packerland), have had a good start to their Packerland conference schedule, beating Algoma 3-1 and Sturgeon Bay 3-2. Playing in many tournaments has been something that Peshtigo has done a lot this season, leading them to have played in 19 matches already so far, with the Eagles set to be number 20 on the year. 

The match is set for 7:00 P.M. 

Southern Door's Brooke Strege will have to wait another day to capture another invite title.

Strege took second place at the Crusader Challenge in Sheboygan on Tuesday with a time of 20:57 on the 5K course. Valley Christian's Leah Peterson won with a time of 20:13. The Eagles finished in 11th place with 288 points, over 200 points behind first place Oostburg.

Ben Grota paced the boys' team to a 17th place finish with 384 points. He took 10th place overall with a 5K time of 18:15. Kohler won the meet with 65 points.

The Door County United Swim Team takes their talents for a road trip as they travel to Clintonville to battle the Truckers.

Last week, the Door County United (DCU) Girls High School Swim Team brought home a win in their first conference dual meet of the season. The girls defeated Shawano High School 132 to 37 total points. DCU took 1st place in every varsity and junior varsity events during the meet. Junior varsity swimmer Hannah Schley (SDHS) dropped 5 seconds from her best time in the 50 yard freestyle. Natalia Michalski (SBHS) finished first in the varsity 100 yard freestyle. She scored 6 points for the team in that event. Cassie Rankin (SEV) helped assist the team in the win by scoring 12 points in her individual events alone. The team is off to a great start and we hope they continue this success throughout the season.

The meet begins at 6 p.m.

The Southern Door Eagles came home from Ripon with a 2nd place finish after an impressive Saturday tournament. 

The Eagles faced off against Omro, Wisconsin Dells, and Winnebago Lutheran before facing off with Ripon once again in the Championship match. Exactly a year ago to this date, Southern Door faced off against Ripon in the same tournament in the championship game. The result was the exact same, winning the first set, but dropping the next two, and the last one in close fashion. 

The Eagles were led by stellar play from Bella Price and Ashlyn Delfosse. Southern Door is set to face off against the Peshtigo Bulldogs next Thursday at home. 

Southern Door's Brooke Strege will not be denied victories on the cross country course as she won her third race of the season and her second this week alone at the Chilton Tiger Invite on Friday. Her time of 21:21 helped her win an individual title and lead the team to a fifth place finish with 98 points. Ben Grota's 18:18 on the 5K course was good for fourth overall while the Eagles boys finished in sixth place with 141 points. Luxemburg-Casco won both team titles.

Southern Door was able to fend off the Bonduel Bears 6-0 in a packerland showdown that consisted of one touchdown. 

The one touchdown of the game was a screen pass from Drew Daoust to Jack Peterson who was tackled in the endzone for the score to make it 6-0. That would be how the game ended as Bonduel’s Noah Weier threw one up and Southern Door’s Christian Counard was able to come down with it and shut down the drive for the Bears. 

Southern Door moves to 4-0 and 2-0 in the Packerland Conference as they will take on Marinette next week.

The Southern Door volleyball team captured one set but lost its matchup to Sevastopol 3-1 Thursday night.

The Eagles fell in four sets 16-25, 25-19, 16-25, 25-27. Leading the way for the Eagles were Paige Olson (7 aces, 8 kills, 4 blocks), Kendra Shimon (12 kills, 8 digs), Alaina Shimon (33 assists) and Bella Price (8 kills, 16 digs). 

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday at the Ripon High School Invitational. That tournament will feature the host school, Crandon, Green Bay West, Omro, Waupun, Winnebago Lutheran Academy, and Wisconsin Dells. 

The Pioneers will host Mishicot on Tuesday.

The Southern Door Eagles will look to keep their beginning of the season momentum rolling as they welcome the Bonduel Bears to town. 

The Eagles (3-0), have bulldozed over every team they have faced so far this season, out scoring the teams in the 3 games they’ve played 115-18. The high powered offense has been led by Quarterback Drew Daoust, who has posted 465 yards and 8 touchdowns so far on the season, which goes along with a 147.5 QB rating, with 158.3 being the highest possible rating. The defense has been manned by Taylor Schaefer, but also has had many other key contributors step up to really make the defense how good it has been. Southern Door will face their toughest competition yet this season, as Bonduel has a tougher defense than any team the Eagles have played. 

Bonduel (2-1), took on Sturgeon Bay on 103.3 The Clipper last week, and showed them why they should be talked about in the chase for the Packerland conference title as well, beating the Clippers 41-7. The Bears showed their dominant run game in their conference opener, running the ball for 226 yards and four touchdowns, while only throwing the ball 8 times. 

Kickoff is set for 7:00 P.M. in Brussels. 

Southern Door boasted the top runners in Tuesday's Algoma Invitational held at Peterson Park.

In the boys' race, Ben Grota finished in third place overall, finishing the 5K with a time of 19:02 on the hilly course. Grota's finish helped lead the Eagles to a fourth-place finish with 105 points. Shawano placed all five of its runners in the top 10, including first-place finisher Ethan Onesti (17:29), to win the boys' side.

Brooke Strege won her second race of the season, conquering the 5K course in 21:55. The Eagles girls took fourth as a team with 106 points, finishing behind Shawano, Sturgeon Bay, and Sevastopol.

The Southern Door Eagles stayed perfect on the season on Friday with a 42-6 win over Mishicot.

The Eagles jumped to a 21-0 lead after one quarter of play and entered the second half after securing 35 first-half points. 

Drew Daoust was efficient, completing eight of his eleven passes for 126 yards and three scores. Zach Lynch paced the Eagles on the ground with over 120 yards while Daoust fed the ball to five different receivers, including Jared Hawkey who took the ball for 80 yards and a score. 

The Southern Door Eagles will look to impress once again after blowing out their last two opponents, this time with a big name expected to be in the crowd. 

Southern Door (2-0), have not been close to being touched in their first two non-conference matchups against Oostburg and Lomira. Averaging 36.5 points per game, some may say the Eagles are rolling. The Eagles offense is being led by the arm of sophomore Drew Daoust who once again threw for multiple touchdowns last week in a 46-12 route over the Lions of Lomira. The defense led by the multiple seniors at every position has experience all over the ball that could lead the Eagles far come later in the season. 

Mishicot (1-1), has had a pretty successful season so far, with an almost even amount of points scored as they have let up. The team will look to improve to 2-1 against a tough Eagles team that has let up 12 points in two weeks. 

Packers Running Back AJ Dillon has been rumored to be in attendance for Friday nights game at Southern Door after posting a tweet on his Twitter calling Southern Door vs Mishicot his “game of the week” that he is attending this week.
