Eagles baseball hosts Brillion Monday

The Southern Door baseball team gets their WIAA Tournament run underway when they host Brillion Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles ran the table in the Packerland Conference and went 19-2 overall to earn the number one seed in the regional. They have not lost since losing the back end of a doubleheader against Winneconne on May 7th. They have won nine straight games since then, including a 7-2 win over Gibraltar on Washington Island on May 21st.

The Lions earned their spot in the regional semi-final with a 3-1 win over Manitowoc Lutheran last Thursday. That was the team's fourth straight win to help them improve to 8-9 on the season.

First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.

Better late than never for Southern Door softball in regional championship

The Southern Door softball team heads to Wautoma Friday for their delayed regional championship game.

The Eagles have been streaky all season, including their current two-game winning stint with close victories over Algoma and Wrightstown during that time.

They will face a tough opponent in Wautoma, who beat Adams-Friendship in their first tournament game and broke a two-game losing skid. They had won their previous 16 games before that.

The game will begin at 5 p.m. in Wautoma.

Three athletes PR for Southern Door at sectional track meet

The Southern Door track team boasted plenty of strong performances at their last meet of the year.

Danica Neville was the closest to qualifying for the state meet in LaCrosse, running a personal record in the 400m to finish in fifth, one spot shy of the top four needed. Brooke Strege and Kaden Borkovetz also ran personal records at the WIAA Sectional hosted by Little Chute Thursday.

Eagles softball's state journey begins in Wrightstown

The Southern Door softball team's road to Madison requires a little bit of a road trip as they travel to Wrightstown.

The Eagles split their last eight games in the wake of a five-game winning streak at the end of April. They beat Algoma 7-6 in their regular season finale.

The Tigers ended their year with an 11-0 win over Reedsville after a fourth-place finish in the NEC. That win broke a two game losing streak heading towards tournament time.

First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.

Eagles win island matchup against Gibraltar

The Southern Door Eagles followed up its Friday sweep of NEW Lutheran with a ferry ride and a 7-2  win over Gibraltar Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning. The Vikings would come back the next inning with two runs of their own, but the Eagles would put the game away with three runs in the fourth inning and a single tally in the sixth to put the game away.

Will Jandrin picked up the win with four innings of relief and three strikeouts. Ryan Jorgenson took the loss, giving up six runs on six hits across 3 1/3 innings.

Jack Peterson had two RBI while Charlie Neinas and Tyler Neinas each had a pair of hits for the Eagles.

For the VIkings, Sam Lindenberg and Cooper Cole each had an RBI while Cole had a pair of hits. Brady Kita, Max Maltby, and Rylan Caldecott also had hits.

Peterson's dingers clinches conference crown for Southern Door baseball

Jack Peterson slugged two homers in the game but it was the second one in the top of the eighth inning that gave Southern Door the 11-9 win over Oconto and an outright Packerland Conference championship.

It was a back and forth game all night long against the Blue Devils. Southern Door took lead in the top of sixth on a Tyler Neinas two-run single. Oconto took the lead back in the bottom of the sixth on a ground out and throwing error. To start the top of the 7th with one out, Taylor Schaefer walked and Jack Peterson hit a two-run homer to make the score 8-8 sending the game to extras. In the top of the eighth, Tyler Neinas walked and got to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Derik Schinktgen. Later in the inning, he scored on an error hit by Jared Hawkey. Peterson followed up with his second homer to right field to make the score 11-8. Oconto rallied in the bottom scoring one but left the bases loaded.

The win gives Southern Door its second straight Packerland Conference championship as they improve to 16-2 on the season.

Eagles baseball battles for first place against Oconto

The winner of Southern Door/Oconto on Thursday will go a long way in deciding the Packerland Conference baseball title.

Oconto leads the conference with eight wins, while Southern Door has a perfect Packerland mark. Both teams are the only ones to have scored more than 70 runs. Kewaunee is the next closest with 60.

The Eagles have not lost since the back end of its doubleheader against Winneconne on May 7th, starting a five-game winning streak after having its previous 10-game streak snapped.

The Blue Devils saw its seven-game winning streak snapped when they lost to Kewaunee in the back end of its doubleheader. They came back a week later with a 14-4 blowout win over 2021 state participant Denmark.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Southern Door also learned earlier this week that it will be a top seed in the WIAA tournament. They will play the winner of Manitowoc Lutheran and Brillion on May 31st.

Southern Door secures pair of runner up finishes at Packerland Track Championships

Home track advantage played nicely for the Southern Door track teams as they both took second in Monday's Packerland Conference Championships.

The boys finished in second place behind Kewaunee thanks to wins by Brodie Overbeck (discus), Eli Mancheski (high jump) and second-place finishes by Kaden Borkovetz (long jump) and Overbeck (shot put).

The girls finished behind Sturgeon Bay for second place with Brooke Strege capturing the 800m and 3200m and the 4x100m topping the field.

Southern Door baseball cruises past Algoma

The winning keeps coming up Eagles on the baseball diamond as Southern Door beat Algoma 5-1 Monday night.

Charlie Neinas and Christian Counard each had a pair of RBI while combining for four hits. Counard and Jack Peterson collected doubles while Jared Hawkey had a pair of hits as well.

The offense proved to be more than enough for Drew Daoust, who went the distance, allowing the single run on three hits.

Eagles softball nips Wolves in extras

The Eagles pushed across two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Algoma 7-6.

The Wolves had boasted a four-run lead entering the fifth inning when the Eagles bats came to life with five runs to take a slim lead that would be matched in the top half of the sixth,

The score would stay there until Rylee Fenendael scored on a squeeze play to give the Wolves the ninth inning lead. A pair of doubles by Sophia Counard and Colbi Jacquet set up the winning run when replacement runner Erin Griep scored on an Algoma error.

Jacquet and Ashlyn Delfosse combined for five hits and five RBI in the win for the Eagles. Ryley Zimmerman led the way offensively for the Wolves, slapping three hits while collecting three RBI.

Southern Door hosts Packerland track championships

Southern Door High School will be the scene where a new champion will be crowned in Packerland track and field.

In last year's conference championships hosted at Peshtigo, the Sevastopol girls and the Kewaunee boys won their respective titles. At the relays meet held earlier this season, the Southern Door girls and the Kewaunee boys were crowned champions in Algoma.

The first events will begin in Brussels at 3:30 p.m.

Southern Door baseball, softball looks to continue dominating stretch against Algoma

The Southern Door baseball and softball teams are playing some of their best games down the stretch ahead of their matchups against Algoma on Monday.

The Eagles baseball team followed up its win over Gibraltar with a doubleheader sweep of Cedar Grove/Belgium on Saturday. The Wolves have lost five straight, including doubleheader sweeps at the hands of Packerland opponents Oconto and NEW Lutheran.

The Eagles softball team saw its four-game winning streak end this Saturday at its triangular at Denmark. They lost to Poynette 2-1 before dropping their matchup to Denmark 13-7. The Wolves had been on a three game winning streak before running into a tough Sevastopol team last weekend.

Games begin at 4:30 p.m.

Eagles baseball sweeps Cedar Grove-Belgium

Eagles softball blows past Gibraltar

The Southern Door Eagles softball team nearly put up 10-plus runs in two innings on Friday en route to a 23-2 victory in three innings over Gibraltar.

The Eagles scored nine runs in the first inning and 12 in the second to set the stage for the short evening. Six different players registered RBI for the Eagles, led by five from Chloe Lustila and three from Colbie Jauquet. Delfosse picked up the win for the Eagles from the pitcher's circle while Lustila closed things out. Both pitchers struck out three.

The Vikings were able to score in their half of the third inning their first runs since April 23rd. Pamela Prescott was credited with an RBI with one of the Vikings' two hits on the day.

Big innings give Eagles win over Vikings on 105.1 The GOAT

A pair of four-run innings and a great pitching performance from Christian Counard was all the Southern Door Eagles needed to beat the Gibraltar Vikings Friday night 8-2 in Fish Creek.

The Vikings were able to get base runners on in every inning but the sixth against the Eagles' pitching, only to be denied by the arms of Christian Counard and Charlie Neinas along with sound defense behind them. Counard struck out five over his five innings pitched while allowing a handful of hits. Neinas struck out four in his two innings of work.

The Eagles scored four in the third inning with with a hit by pitch registering the first run and a single by Neinas driving in some additional Eagles. After Brady Kita scored in the third inning, the Eagles would score four more in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. Logan Jeanquart registered three RBI on the night. Jack Peterson and Tyler Neinas also had two hits.

Kita would come around to score again in the fifth inning to make it an 8-2 ballgame. Sam Lindenberg had four hits in the game for the Vikings while Kita also had multiple hits in the loss.

The Eagles host Cedar Grove/Belgium for a pair tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.

Eagles softball sweeps Blazers, face Vikings Friday

The Southern Door Eagles softball team posted a pair of strong performances Thursday, winning both games by wide margins over NEW Lutheran.

In 13-3 Eagles win, it was a multiple-base hit extravaganza as Ashlyn Delfosse and Greta Gutschow homered and Bella Price and Chloe Lustila tripled. Delfosse went on to register five RBI in the game while also keeping the Blazers' offense under control as the winning pitcher.

In the 10-0 victory, Delfosse, Payton Gilbertson and Sophia Counard each had two hits in the game while Price and Counard had multi-RBI games. Lustila struck out four in four innings of work with Abi Tooley shutting the door in the fifth inning with a pair of strikeouts.
