Southern Door High School Archives for 2019-11

Southern Door wrestling tested early

Southern Door's wrestling team begins their season next Saturday at the Stratford Duals. Several teams are expected to compete including the Barron Area Schools, DC Everest, Wautoma, and Wild Rose. It is the host school that provides the biggest challenge though. Stratford is a powerhouse in Division III wrestling. They finished state runner-up last last year compiling a 25-2 record. They were team champions in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018.

Wrestling begins at 9:00 with weigh-ins an hour prior. Stratford is located between Wausau and Marshfield so the bus will be leaving early. Expected departure time for Southern Door wrestling is 5:30 AM.

Southern Door girls at Little Chute Saturday

The Southern Door High School girls team travels to Little Chute trying to remain unbeaten against a 1-1 Mustang team. The Eagles have to contend with an eight-day layoff while Little Chute was on the court Tuesday, picking up a victory. Avoiding rust could prove pivotal in Southern Door's chances.

Southern Door girls basketball wins first game

The Southern Door High School girls basketball team picked up a win in the curtain jerker of the 2019-2020 season on Friday night. The final score saw Southern Door fly past Roncalli, 56-42.  The Jets are a proud program but finished in last place in the Eastern Wisconsin standings a year ago.  There were a couple of things that made the win stand out though.

First, it was a road contest for a Southern Door team that has been practicing for roughly 10 days and has yet to get a chance to gel. Secondly, Roncalli has already had a regular season game, losing to Bonduel on Tuesday night. Practices and scrimmages can only prepare a team so much. Getting a game that counts under your belt before your opponent provides a distinct advantage. Southern Door's next game is Saturday at Little Chute before they get a game in Brussels.
