Southern Door football shuts out Ozaukee

The Southern Door defense stiffened up at each moment Ozaukee threatened to score on Friday in the Eagles 27-0 rout. It wasn’t all smooth sailing from the beginning as Southern Door had two trips where they entered the red zone in the first quarter but neither ended in a score. One possession ended on downs and another resulted in an interception near the goal line by Ozaukee’s Phillip McClarty. With a minute and thirty-seven seconds left in the first quarter the Eagles got on the board with a touchdown pass from outside the red zone on a pass from Jack Peterson to Drew Daoust, who weaved his way through traffic en route to his first of two scores on the night.

In the second quarter Jonas Jandrin got his first touchdown of the season to put Southern up 14-0. With just over a couple of minutes left before half, Peterson hit Daoust for a 31-yard touchdown on a broken play while scrambling to his left. That led the Eagles into halftime with a 21-0 lead. In the second half, Southern Door shut down scoring threats by blocking an Ozaukee field goal from 25 yards out, and forcing a turnover on downs as Ozaukee was in the red zone. Southern Door extended their lead to 27-0 when Jared Hawkey made a big play. Peterson gave Hawkey a chance to make a contested catch and Hawkey was able to tip the ball up to himself and fight for the goal line and the score that would end all hopes of a comeback for the Warriors.

The Eagles are now 2-0 and face Colby on Friday, September 3rd at 7:00 PM in Brussels.

Eagles football going for 2-0 start against Ozaukee

On Friday, the Eagles hope to continue their early season fortunes when they take on the Ozaukee Warriors. Four takeaways and four Peterson touchdowns highlight Eagles win

The ambience of a Friday night football game was back in Brussels for the Southern Door season opener of the 2021 season against Oostburg. The Southern Door Eagles won 25-17. The scoring was started by the Flying Dutchmen with a 32 yard field goal in the 1st quarter by Joey Bruggink. Southern Door got on the board with a touchdown pass from just outside the red zone on a fade ball from Jack Peterson to Drew Daoust. After failing the two-point conversion, the Eagles led 6-3. The Eagles appeared to be going into the half with a two-score lead after a touchdown run by Peterson who had four touchdowns total. On the play Peterson reversed field and put Southern Door up 12-3. However, a late first half interception by Oostburg and a quick 60-yard touchdown run by the Dutchmen’s Jay Deblaey with 13 seconds left made the score 12-10 heading into the break.

In the second half the Eagles regained their 9-point lead with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Peterson to Alec Guilette. Oostburg’s Deblaey answered right back going the majority of the field and breaking multiple would-be tacklers on the way to a score that would put the Dutchmen down just 19-17. Peterson got his second touchdown on the ground near the end of the third quarter on a QB draw on fourth and goal from the 4-yard line. The missed PAT would keep Oostburg in the game, and down just 25-17. That would stay the final score however. In the final chance for Oostburg to get a tying touchdown, pressure caused quarterback Donavan DePagter to fumble and hopping on the recovery was Lane Aleson. DePagter was under duress all night as the Eagles caused four turnovers by the signal caller, including three interceptions.

Southern Door is now 1-0 and faces Ozaukee on the road on Friday, August 27th.

Fun reigns at Barn Brawl Wrestling Camp

After a year off, Saturday, August 14th saw the return of a Southern Door Wrestling tradition as 24 youth and middle school wrestlers took part in the Barn Brawl Wrestling Fun Camp.  The one-day event was filled with healthy and fun activities that concluded with the always favorite obstacle course and the wrestling dual in the barn!  It was the eighth time the Southern Door Wrestling Club has held the event.
The goal of the camp is to promote healthy habits, physical fitness, and team camaraderie.  This year's award winners were:  Trevin Veeser - Barn Brawl MVP and Gavin Geisel - Ox Award.

A special thanks go out to Joey & Kayla Wilke, who hosted the event, as well as the B.U.G. Fire Department, who allowed wrestling dads that serve our community to share their firefighting knowledge and experience with our Eagles wrestlers.
