Southern Door routs Oconto on U-102.1, faces Kewaunee next week

The Southern Door Eagles routed the Oconto Blue Devils 46-6 on Friday Night in a thrilling homecoming win. 

 

Drew Daoust started off the high-scoring affair with a rushing touchdown, a sign of what was to come for the Eagles offense. The Blue Devils would have one of their offensive possessions cut short after Jerek Valley took an interception to the house to add to Southern Door’s lead. The Eagles led 26-0 after the first quarter. 

 

Zack Lynch had another big night for the Eagles' offense, scoring two touchdowns.

 

Will Jandrin added more for Southern Door, catching a pass from Daoust for an 87-yard touchdown, cementing the Eagles' lead going into the half. 

 

Oconto finally got on the board late in the game by Kyle Bowman after a 15-yard scamper.

 

Southern Door remains undefeated with a conference title on the line next week as they face Kewaunee, which will air on 104.1 WRLU.

Grota, Bousley fly to personal records at Panther Invite

The Southern Door Eagles cross country team was among more than a dozen teams at Thursday's Panther Invite hosted in Reedsville.

 

The boys' team, led by Ben Grota's top-five, sub-17 minute performance finished in sixth place while the girls, led by Emma Bousley's top five performance, finished in seventh place. Grota's 16:57 and Bousley's 20:42 were both personal bests.

Eagles volleyball withstands Storm in latest victory

It took the maximum, but the Southern Door volleyball team was able to leave the court on Thursday with a 3-2 victory (25-23, 19-25; 25-20; 18-25; 15-12) over Kewaunee.

 

The see-saw battle was led offensively by Isabella Price (11 kills; 8 aces) and Paige Olson (10 kills; 5 blocks; 4 aces) with Ashlyn Delfosse doing a great job distributing the ball with 28 assists. Sophia Counard showed the leadership on the defensive side of the ball with 20 digs.

Southern Door football hosts Oconto for homecoming on U-102.1

The Southern Door Eagles hope to dance their way to another victory on Friday when they face Oconto for homecoming on Friday night

 

The Eagles gave Peshtigo a taste of their own medicine with their rushing game as they won the contest 56-0. Zach Lynch did it all for the Eagles as he passed for a score in the first quarter before rushing for three more in the second quarter to pace the team in the drubbing. Mason Motquin had a pick-six in a 29-point second quarter and Tyler Neinas returned a punt 75 yards in the cap off the scoring for the night.

 

The Blue Devils are a date to homecoming for a Door County school for the second straight week, losing to Sturgeon Bay last Friday 20-6. Kyle Bowman galloped for 115 yards but the Clippers' defense was able to keep Cooper Campsure under wraps for most of the night, limiting the quarterback to just 36 total yards on the night.

 

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Reece Robillard and Eric Fischer will have the call on U-102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show.

Southern Door volleyball looks for bounce back against Kewaunee

The Southern Door volleyball team hopes to bounce back from a tough loss to NEW Lutheran earlier in the week when they host Kewaunee at 7 p.m. Thursday.

 

The Southern Door Eagles dropped a volleyball match to the NEW Lutheran Blazers Tuesday night in Green Bay.  The Eagles battled but came up a little short losing sets by the score of 25-20, 25-19, and 25-20. Isabella Price paced the Eagles with six kills and 12 digs. Ashlyn Delfosse: added eight assists with Paige Olson serving four aces

and Sophia Counard provided 12 digs for Southern Door.

 

A 3-0 sweep of Gibraltar is the only victory the Storm has posted in the last month. They have been swept in nearly half of their nine losses.

 

Eagles fall to NEW Lutheran in volleyball

The Southern Door Eagles dropped a volleyball match to the NEW Lutheran Blazers Tuesday night in Green Bay.  The Eagles battled but came up a little short losing sets by the score of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-20. Isabella Price paced the Eagles with six kills and 12 digs. Ashlyn Delfosse: added eight assists with Paige Olson serving four aces

and Sophia Coundard providing 12 digs for Southern Door.

 

The Eagles (2-2, 15-9 overall) will now host Kewaunee at home on Thursday. 

Southern Door volleyball visits NEW Lutheran

The Southern Door volleyball team will make the trip to Green Bay on Tuesday to face NEW Lutheran.

 

The Eagles won four of its five matches at the Valders Invitational over the weekend, splitting its pair against the host school (2-1 L and 2-0 W), sweeping a pair from Menasha (2-0 and 2-0 wins), and beating Crandon 2-0.

 

The Blazers took the weekend off after being swept 3-0 by Sturgeon Bay last Thursday. They have hit a rough patch in their season, losing eight of their last nine matches.

 

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

Southern Door pounds Peshtigo to stay perfect

Southern Door gave Peshtigo a taste of their own medicine with their rushing game as they won the contest 56-0.

Southern Door travels to Valders for Saturday volleyball tournament

Southern Door will head to Valders for a 9 a.m. call time against Crandon, Manitowoc Lutheran, and Menasha on Saturday.

 

Southern Door rallied back after dropping the first set on Thursday to beat Oconto 3-1 (15-25, 29-27; 28-26; 25-20). The Eagles volleyball faced plenty of adversity in the match, losing the first set convincingly before needing to go past the usual 25 points to secure wins in sets two and three. Ashlyn Delfosse (20 assists, 4 aces) and Audrey Plzak (10 assists) did their part to spread the ball around, leading to Isabella Price (9 kills, 18 digs) and Paige Olson (11 kills) to have plenty of opportunities on offense. Alanah Kaye added 4 aces, 5 kills, 12 digs while Sophia Coundard contributed 13 digs. 

DCU looks to carry winning ways to Plymouth

On Saturday DCU will compete for their third consecutive championship at the Plymouth Invitational at Plymouth High School beginning at 8 a.m.

 

Earlier this week, Door County United Girls Swimming won the Shoreline Invitational at Sheboygan North High School on Saturday.  DCU scored 532 points over second place finisher Sheboygan North with 419.   DCU finished first in all but two events.  First place finishes were posted by Cassie Rankin (Sev), Danica Neville (SD), and Julia Michalski (SB). Second place finishers were Kailyn Neville (SD), Caitlyn Hasenjager (Sev), and Izzy Jimenez-Seyfer (SB).  DCU won the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.  DCU also had a strong showing in the junior varsity events with Shaeffer Rass (Sev) finishing first in both the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke.

Southern Door's Grota, Bousley finish top five at Bremser Invitational

The Southern Door cross country team had plenty of good performance in a stacked field Thursday at the Bremser Invitational hosted by Mishicot.

 

For the boys, Ben Grota continued his strong senior campaign with a season-best 17:17 to take fourth place overall to lead the Eagles.

 

The girls had Emma Bousley pacing them as she completed the 5K course in a personal best 20:50 to take fifth in the small school division.

Eagles rally from opening set loss to victory over Blue Devils

Southern Door makes way to Peshtigo

The Southern Door Eagles continue their march towards a second straight Packerland crown when they travel to Peshtigo Friday night.

 

The Eagles did not need to use their air attack to rout Marinette 54-14 in Brussels last Friday night. The Eagles offense had things working for them as they would score 3 touchdowns in each quarter of the first half. They would add 2 touchdowns in the third quarter, the second of which would send the game into a running clock for the remainder of the game.  Drew Daoust found his way into the endzone a total of 4 times, and Zach Lynch would add 3 touchdowns of his own.  The defense wanted to score as well, and did so when Cruz Cavillo picked up a Marinette fumble and ran 65 yards into the endzone.

 

The Bulldogs have struggled to score points this season, averaging less than six points a game through five games. That includes a scorigami loss last week when they could only muster a safety in a 36-2 loss to Sturgeon Bay.

 

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

 

 

Southern Door volleyball ready to fly against Oconto

The Southern Door volleyball heads back to Packerland Conference play on Thursday with its match against Oconto.

 

The Eagles got lots of time on the court during its stint at the Clintonville Tournament last weekend, going 2-3 in the process. The team fought hard in those matches with three of the five matches going to a decisive third game, going 2-1 in those. They had entered the tournament on a four-match winning streak.

 

The Blue Devils also went 2-3 in their tournament play last as they traveled to state title contender Fox Valley Lutheran. They were able to get wins against New Holstein and Menasha after entering the tournament 4-2 in their last six matches.

 

First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.

DCU continues winning ways

Eagles run through Marinette to remain perfect

The Southern Door Eagles did not need to use their air attack to rout Marinette 54-14 in Brussels Friday night.  The Eagles would score on the opening possession thanks to a 29-yard run by quarterback Drew Daoust to jump to an early 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. They would maintain a lead the entire rest of the game, even though Marinette would score once in each quarter of the first half.

 

The Eagles offense had things working for them as they would score 3 touchdowns in each quarter of the first half. Southern Door volleyball visits Clintonville for invite

Southern Door will visit Clintonville for the 9 a.m. tournament start.  Gillett, Laona-Wabeno, Ripon, Shawano Community, St. Mary Catholic, and Valders will also be competing. 

 

On Thursday, the Southern Door Eagles rebounded from a dropped third set to take their match against Peshtigo 3-1 (26-24, 25-22; 25-27; 26-24). Audrey Plzak controlled the match's pace with six aces and 14 assists to lead the Eagles. Isabella Price had 14 kills and 13 digs while Paige Olson contributed 12 kills. Ashlyn Delfosse ran the Eagles' offense with 23 assists while Sophia Counard commanded the team defensively with 27 digs.

Southern Door hosts Marinette on the gridiron on U-102.1

Southern Door's perfect start is still on the line Friday night when they play host to Marinette on Friday night.

 

Drew Daoust couldn't get things going through the air, but he didn't need to as the Eagles registered 334 yards on the ground in a 34-14 win against Bonduel last week. Zach Lynch had four touchdowns to go along with his 209 yards rushing. William Jandrin had 13 tackles while Mason Motquin and Jerek Valley each had an interception. 

 

The Marines tried stealing their first Packerland Conference of the win season last week, but Sturgeon Bay held off the rally to give Marinette a 22-19 defeat to sink them to a 1-3 mark. Leahland Bertrand leads the team with over 200 yards rushing on the year.

Eagles volleyball knocks down Bulldogs

The Southern Door Eagles rebounded from a dropped third set to take their match against Peshtigo 3-1 (26-24, 25-22; 25-27; 26-24).

 

Audrey Plzak controlled the match's pace with six aces and 14 assists the lead the Eagles. Isabella Price had 14 kills and 13 digs while Paige Olson contributed 12 kills. Ashlyn Delfosse ran the Eagles' offense with 23 assists while Sophia Counard commanded the team defensively with 27 digs.

Eagles volleyball soars to Peshtigo

The Southern Door volleyball team heads around the bay for its match Thursday night against Peshtigo.

 

The Eagles finished its Ripon Invite slate strong after dropping its first two matches to Ripon and Winnebago Lutheran 2-0. They would sweep Green Bay West and Omro twice to end the tourney with a 3-2 record. 

 

The Bulldogs have the inverse of the Eagles' record at 4-7 as they try to get out of a four-match skid. After sweeping their two matches at their own triangular, they have not won a set since including a sweep at the hands of Sturgeon Bay.


First serve is set for 7 p.m.

Grota, Bousley give Eagles wings at Crusader Challenge cross country meet

The Southern Door cross country team stood tall among a large field at the Sheboygan Area Lutheran Crusader Challenge on Tuesday.

 

For the girls, Emma Bousley ran a season-best 21:08 to lead the Eagles with a ninth-place finish. Two of the team's runners set personal bests as the Eagles earned a 15th-place finish overall.

 

Ben Grota once again paced the boys squad with a time of 18:12 on the 5K course, which was good for 16th overall. The boys as a team finished in the top half of the field.

DCU takes fourth at Jaguar Invitational

The DCU girls swim team put up a good fight at the Ashwaubenon Jaguars Invite on Saturday 9/9/23. The team finished fourth overall out of ten total teams, scoring 228.5 total points. Julia Michalski (SBHS) was the top scorer for individual events for DCU. She scored 34 points with her 2nd place finishes in both the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard freestyle. Senior Dancia Neville (SDHS) scored 24 points for the team with her 6th place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke and her 8th place finish in the 200 yard individual medley. Hannah Schley (SDHS) competed hard in this invitational and dropped 3 seconds from her 50 freestyle time and more than 5 seconds from her 100 freestyle time. Two of the three relays placed 3rd overall and the final relay of the day finished 8th overall. The DCU girls will take on Clintonville High School in a duel at the Door County YMCA on Thursday September 14th at 6:00 p.m. 

DCU continues hot start with win over Pulaski, meet at Ashwaubenon Saturday

Door County United (DCU) girls high school swim team luck continues with their win over Pulaski High School on 9/7/23. DCU scored 117 points and Pulaski scored 49 points. There was no junior varsity competition from Pulaski, however the DCU junior varsity team had great success. Hannah Schley (SDHS), Emma Moyer (SDHS), and Anna Massart (SDHS) all completed the 50 yard freestyle in under 40 seconds. As for the varsity events, DCU finished first in every event except for the final relay. The team made quite a statement finishing first and second overall in the first event, the 200 yard medley relay. The first place relay consisted of Julia Michalski (SBHS), Danica Neville (SDHS), Aurora Breci (SEV), and Cassie Rankin (SEV). The second place relay consisted of Anika Steinbach (SBHS), Caitlyn Hasenjager (SEV), Isabella Jiminez Seyfer (SBHS), and Kailyn Neville (SDHS). Senior Natalia Michalski (SBHS) was an integral scorer during this meet finishing first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.95. She also finished second overall in the 100 yard backstroke. The DCU team will travel to Ashwaubenon on Saturday 9/9/23 for a non-conference invitational. They will host their next conference match up on Thursday 9/14/23 vs Clintonville High School at the Door County YMCA. 

Bousley, Grota go top five at Chilton Tigers Invite

The Southern Door Eagles cross country had another strong showing from familiar faces at their second meet in three days, this time at the Chilton Tigers Invitational.

 

For the girls, Emma Bousley ran a season-best 21:20, and three of her teammates set personal records as the Eagles took fourth place overall with 97 points as Sheboygan Lutheran won the meet.

 

On the boys' side, the Eagles matched their female counterparts with 97 points to take third place behind invite co-winners Chilton and Sheboygan Lutheran with 37 points. Ben Grota led the way with a fourth-place finish with a 5K time of 18:12.

Southern Door football takes perfect start to Bonduel

The Southern Door football team once again puts their perfect record on the line Friday night when they take to the road at Bonduel.

 

Drew Daoust scored four total touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) and the Eagles rushed for 154 yards in their 30-7 win over Mishicot last week for their first Packerland Conference win of the season. The Eagles possess the second-leading passing (Daoust with 350 yards) and rusher (Zach Lynch with 314 yards) in the Packerland Conference.

 

Both teams are 1-0 in the Packerland Conference after Bonduel snuck out of Sturgeon Bay last week 20-19. Noah Weier scored a touchdown and had six catches for 120 yards while running back Dylan Hillsberg rushed for another two scores in the victory.

 

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Southern Door volleyball faces Sevastopol at home

The Southern Door volleyball team takes to its home court Thursday to face fellow Door County opponent Sevastopol.

 

The Eagles have started the year 4-1 with the Green Bay East Tournament. They won 8 of their 10 sets leading up to its final match where they were swept by Berlin.

 

The Pioneers have been streaky to start the year, winning their first three matches before having a three-match losing streak and a two-match winning streaking. They lost to Reedsville 3-1 in their last match on the road.

 

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

Eagles cross country turns around at Chilton

The Southern Door cross country will race for the second time in three days when they visit Chilton on Thursday.

 

Ben Grota was the boys' top finisher in Tuesday's Algoma Invitational that saw the Eagles take second place with 48 points, 25 points behind champion NEWCHAA Homeschool. The girls finished middle of the pack with 92 points, led by a fourth-place finish and a season-best performance by Emma Bousley.

 

The Eagles will race against Denmark, Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, Hilbert, Sheboygan South, Wrightstown, and the host school when they start the first race at 4 p.m. According to the Packerland Conference website, this race was originally scheduled for Saturday.

Eagles soar past Indians

The Southern Door football team ran their record to 3-0 Friday night with a 30-7 win over Mishicot.

 

Drew Daoust had four total touchdowns in the game, running and throwing for scores in the first quarter before additional ones in the second and third quarters. Tyler Neinas caught two of those touchdowns en route to a 14-yard night while Braylon Berg caught the other score from 29 yards out. Daoust ended his evening with 17 yards rushing and 115 yards passing on 8-12 passing.

 

The Indians' Adam Backus provided the only fireworks for Mishicot with a touchdown rush in the fourth quarter.

 

The Eagles will stay on the road next week as they travel to face Bonduel, which is coming off a win against Sturgeon Bay on Friday.

The Eagles defense prevented the Brillion Lions offense from reaching the end zone, coming away with the 26-7 victory, improving their record to 2-0. Drew Daoust added 2 touchdowns to his season stats running one in from 2 yards out, and adding a passing TD to Gage Geisel in the third quarter.  Zach Lynch added two touchdowns as well, scoring each from the Eagles side of midfield, including a 70-yard run that put this game fully out of the Lions grasp.

 

The Indians are 1-1 on the year, topping Manitowoc Lutheran 28-22 last week. Their offense does their damage on the ground, rushing 53 times for 352 yards and all four of their touchdowns. Brady Urbanek rushed for 120 yards and Logan Marquardt added 114 yards and two scores to pace the Indians' rushing attack.
