Eagles softball tally win against Bulldogs

The Southern Door softball team registered single runs in each of the final three inning to beat Peshtigo 3-1 on Tuesday.

Ashlyn Delfosse put the ball in play, which led to two of the runs, while Alanna Paye's RBI single in the sixth inning led to the other. Samantha Melville collected two hits while Reese Vogel, Madison Counard, and Paye each had one. Lost in the shuffle is Alanah Kaye's day in the circle as she struck out 11 while allowing one run (0 ER) on four hits.

Furious comeback ends short for Eagles baseball vs. Bulldogs

The Southern Door baseball team scored seven runs in the top of the seventh, only to be walked off in the bottom half by a 12-11 score Tuesday afternoon.

Trailing 10-4 entering the seventh inning, the Eagles mounted a serious comeback thanks partly to run-scoring singles from Isaac Baudhuin, Collin Everard, and a RBI double by Braylon Berg. The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, setting the stage for Ezra Proft's heroics with a two-run, game-winning single.

The loss spoiled a three-hit, three-RBI night from Berg and multi-RBI nights from Tyler Neinas and Baudhuin. Drew Daoust and Baudhuin each had two hits.

The Eagles return to action on Friday when Sturgeon Bay comes to town for a 5 p.m. first pitch. Jacob Nate will have the call on U-102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 5 p.m.

Eagles softball post second straight doubleheader sweep

For the second straight day, the Southern Door softball team picked up a pair of wins against one team, sweeping Chilton 5-2 and 10-7.

In the first game, the Tigers failed to take advantage of two Eagles errors, allowing their hosts to take a 1-0 lead. After the Tigers tied the game on a homer, the two teams traded runs, putting the Eagles into a 3-2 hole heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Eagles hit four straight singles and drew a bases loaded walk to take the lead for good. Lexi Tassoul led the way with two hits while Samantha Melville drove in a pair. Alanah Kaye earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs (2 ER) on seven hits and five strikeouts.

In game two, the two teams scored six runs apiece across the first three innings with a four-run fifth inning proving to be the decider for the Eagles. Reese Vogel and Samantha Melville doubled while Alanah Kaye smacked a three-run homer in the pivotal fifth inning. Kaye, Ashlyn Delfosse, Melville, and Audrey Plzack posted RBI.

Eagles dominate Packerland Conference Relays

The Southern Door track put their talents on display at Thursday's Packerland Conference Relays in Oconto with the boys and girls squads coming home with titles.

Damontrae Meeks (300m hurdles) and three relays led the way for the boys while Elise Jackson (100m and 300m hurdles), and two relays led the way for the girls.

Eagles baseball, Vikings rained out on U-102.1, doubleheader moves to Saturday

Southern Door and Gibraltar/Washington Island will try to play their doubleheader again on Saturday morning after getting rained out Friday evening.

The Eagles and the Vikings were prepared to play two games even as the rain fell, hoping it would stop by 6 p.m. However, removing the tarp uncovered puddles around home plate and on the mound, forcing the decision to postpone the game.

The doubleheader will take place at 11 a.m. in Brussels.

Eagles softball beat rain, Vikings

Southern Door pitchers Ashlyn Delfosse and Alanah Kaye combined to strike out eight Gibraltar/Washington Island batters in a 10-0 rout in six innings Friday night.

The Eagles were aided by five Vikings errors on a wet, windy night in Brussels, causing nine of the ten runs allowed by pitcher Mia Glocke to go unearned. The Eagles scored their first two runs in the opening inning when Lexi Tassoul reached on an error, bringing in Delfosse and Reese Vogel. Ava Uecker registered the lone RBI in the game during the second inning when she singled to center field to make it 3-0. Leading 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth, two bases loaded walks and an error led to the final four runs scoring for the Eagles to end the game early.

The Eagles' Madison Counard and Audrey Plzack each collected two hits in the win. Pam Prescott, Isla Fagundes, Megan Gallant, and Anna Jarosh registered hits for the Vikings.

Eagles baseball hosts twinbill against Vikings on U-102.1

North meets south in a Packerland Conference twinbill Friday afternoon when Southern Door welcomes Gibraltar/Washington Island.

The Eagles are coming off a 7-6 loss to Reedsville earlier in the week. wo errors and three walks in the second inning ended up dooming the Eagles, leading to those five runs. The Eagles were left chasing the rest of the night, levying their biggest threat in the fourth inning with three runs thanks to a dinger by Braylon Berg. The two teams would trade runs in later innings, but none that put the Eagles on top.

The Vikings remain perfect on the season after the Vikings shutout Sheboygan Lutheran 10-0 earlier this week. Cam Munao and Liam Lindenberg each collected two RBI in the win while Brady Kita reached base four times on a hit and three walks. Aaron Brey earned the win, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out seven.

Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate will have both ends of the doubleheader on U-102.1 beginning at 3:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4 p.m.

Eagles baseball bit by Panthers

A five-run second inning proved fatal for the Southern Door baseball team as they lost to Reedsville 7-6 on Tuesday.

The two teams traded runs in the first inning, with the Eagles answering a run-scoring single by the Panthers with one by Nick Beck in the first inning. Two errors and three walks in the second inning ended up dooming the Eagles, leading to those five runs. The Eagles were left chasing the rest of the night, levying their biggest threat in the fourth inning with three runs thanks to a dinger by Braylon Berg. The two teams would trade runs in later innings, but none that put the Eagles on top.

Isaac Baudhuin took the loss, allowing six runs (1 ER) on five hits while registering two strikeouts. In addition to his three runs, Valley had another hit to go 2-4 with two runs scored while Braylon Berg drove in three RBI.

The Eagles will host Gibraltar for a doubleheader on Friday. Both ends will be carried live on U-102.1 with Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate on the call.

Eagles softball walk off Storm

The Southern Door softball team went from near disappointment to absolute joy on Monday evening, beating Kewaunee 3-2 with its last at-bat.

The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Madison Counard took home on a passed ball and Ashlyn Delfosse scored on an Alanah Kaye base hit. Both pitchers kept things steady from there until the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth, London Karnopp singled in Breanna Riha to cut the lead in half. Riha would come up clutch in the seventh inning as she tied the game on a sacrifice fly to bring in Charlotte Bootz. The Storm's hopes were dashed in the bottom of the seventh as Delfosse took the second pitch from Ali Repitz and deposited it over the center field fence for the game winner.

Delfosse finished the game with two hits, while five others registered one hit. Samantha Melville earned the win with 2/3 innings pitched, helping clean up the game for Delfosse and Kaye, who combined to strike out nine batters. For the Storm, Riha went 2-4 with an RB,I with four teammates also collecting hits.

The Storm is back in action Tuesday with a home game against Howards Grove, while the Eagles will wait until Friday's home date against Gibraltar.

Eagles baseball bounce Bears

The Southern Door baseball team made the most of their trip to Bonduel on Saturday, winning 3-1.

The Eagles struck first when Braylon Berg was able to steal home in the top of the third to make it 1-0. The Bears would tie it the next inning, and it would stay that way until the top of the fifth inning. That's when Jerek Valley scored on an error, allowing Wyatt Wilke to advance to third base. Tyler Neinas flipped the ball into centerfield for a base hit to make it a 3-1 game. The combination of Neinas and Drew Daoust made the lead stick. The two combined to allow just one run (0 ER) on five hits while striking out five. Neinas and Daoust also tallied two hits apiece in the win.

Ten-spot opens floodgates for Eagles softball

A 10-run first inning set the stage for Southern Door softball's 12-3 win Thursday against Weyauwega-Fremont.

The Eagles were down 2-0 when the onslaught occurred. They posted nine hits in the frame, including six consecutive singles that made it 6-2 before landing on a 10-2 advantage. Neither team would score again until the Indians pushed one run across in the fifth, only to be answered by an Ashlyn Delfosse RBI double and an Alanah Kaye single to make it 12-3.

Five Eagles players posted multi-hit games, with Delfosse collecting four hits and Reese Vogel, Madyson Counard, Kaye, and Samantha Melville each registering two hits. Delfosse also paced the Eagles with two RBI. After Kaye started the game with two innings of two-hit, two-run ball, Melville closed things out with five innings and 10 strikeouts, allowing one run (1 ER) on four hits.

Eagles baseball comes back to sink Marines

The Southern Door Eagles baseball team came back from a four-run deficit before it rolled past Marinette 9-6 on Monday night.

The Eagles scored six runs in the fourth thanks to a  Braylon Berg bases-loaded triple. He would later score on a throwing error to third. Marinette tied the game at six in the top of the 5th inning, but the Eagles responded with two of their own in the bottom half, capping the rally off by a Jerek Valley RBI single. The Eagles added an insurance run in the sixth on a sac fly by Drew Daoust. Berg led the Eagles with two hits, three RBI, and three stolen bases.

Isaac Baudhuin went first five innings for the win. Nick Beck pitched the last two innings in relief. Levi Hanson took the loss for Marinette after five innings of work, allowing eight runs (6 earned). Hanson also had two hits for Marinette.

Eagles top Wolves in extras

For the second straight game, the Southern Door Eagles baseball team needed extra innings to secure the victory, beating Algoma 5-2 in 10 innings.

Both teams scored in the fifth inning, with Caden Pierre stealing a run for the Eagles while the Wolves registered their run on a groundout. It would remain that way until the 10th inning when the Eagles pushed across four runs thanks to a Braylon Berg triple and a two-run Isaac Baudhuin single. Baudhuin would come around to score as well. A Parker Lischka RBI single would narrow the Eagles' advantage, but Braeden Leist's pop-out ended the threat and the game for the Wolves with two men on base.

For the Eagles, Berg and Collin Everard each had two hits, with Baudhuin leading the way with two RBIs. Tyler Neinas picked up the win in relief of Drew Daoust. Carson Leist took the loss in relief of Charlie Prokash, who dazzled for 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run (0 ER) and two hits while striking out 10. Leist was on the mound for the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (four ER) on three hits and four strikeouts while striking out five. Braeden Leist went 3-5, and Jacob Massey went 2-4 in the loss.

Three Southern Door athletes capture multiple wins at Preble meet

The winning was so good for Ben Grota, Cruz Calvillo, and Frankie Nellis, they had to do it twice at Thursday's Last in/First Out hosted by Green Bay Preble.

Grota (800m, 1600m), Calvillo (shot put, discus), and Nellis (long jump, triple jump) took home multiple victories for the Eagles. Braeden VanRemortel(pole vault) and Lauden Berg (high jump) also posted win for the boys while Elise Jackson (300m hurdles) and the 4x200m relay finished on top of the podium for the girls.

Eagles baseball walk off Vikings

Drew Daoust's eighth-inning double broke the 6-6 tie to give the Southern Door Eagles their first win of the season.

The Eagles jumped all over the Vikings in the first inning, scoring three runs, taking advantage of two errors, and tallying the third run on a double play. They would keep pace with the Vikings throughout the rest of the game, registering single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. After scoreless sixth and seventh innings, Daoust delivered the game-winner after Caden Pierre could scamper to first in time on a dropped third strike.

Daoust ended his day 2-3 on the day, while Isaac Baudhuin, Mason Paye, and Collin Everard each registered one hit. Nick Beck earned the victory in relief, allowing two runs (1 ER) on three hits and two walks while striking out three.

Vikings hold down Eagles softball

The Southern Door softball team could only muster two hits on a cold day in Brussels, losing to Valders 9-1.

The Eagles's lone run came in the second inning when a simple bunt by Samantha Melville turned into a play that eventually took her to third base and brought home Alanah Kaye. The Vikings would tie the game in the top of the third inning and take control from there. A three-run fifth inning chased Ashlyn Delfosse from the pitcher's circle and the Vikings would add four more runs in the sixth inning and one more in the seventh.

Madison Counard registered the only other hit for the Eagles. Eight different Vikings collected hits in the game, including four by Makayla Dallas and two by Arianna Hernandez. Delfosse took the loss for the Eagles, four runs (3 ER) on nine hits while striking out three. Megan Hochkammer went the distance for the Vikings, striking out 14 across seven innings.

Southern Door's Nellis shines at UW-O high school girls meet

Frankie Nellis won one event and nearly took home another title at Tuesday's UW Oshkosh Girls-D2/D3 Meet.

Nellis won the long jump with a leap of 17' 02" and nearly pulled the feat in the triple jump with a distance of nearly 35 feet. Kailyn Neville pushed the limits of 33 feet in shotput to take 5th place in the event while Elise Jackson (4th place, 60m hurdles) and Emma Bousley (7th, 1600m) also placed in the top 10.
