Eagles softball walk off Storm

The Southern Door softball team went from near disappointment to absolute joy on Monday evening, beating Kewaunee 3-2 with its last at-bat.

The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Madison Counard took home on a passed ball and Ashlyn Delfosse scored on an Alanah Kaye base hit. Both pitchers kept things steady from there until the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth, London Karnopp singled in Breanna Riha to cut the lead in half. Riha would come up clutch in the seventh inning as she tied the game on a sacrifice fly to bring in Charlotte Bootz. The Storm's hopes were dashed in the bottom of the seventh as Delfosse took the second pitch from Ali Repitz and deposited it over the center field fence for the game winner.

Delfosse finished the game with two hits, while five others registered one hit. Samantha Melville earned the win with 2/3 innings pitched, helping clean up the game for Delfosse and Kaye, who combined to strike out nine batters. For the Storm, Riha went 2-4 with an RB,I with four teammates also collecting hits.

The Storm is back in action Tuesday with a home game against Howards Grove, while the Eagles will wait until Friday's home date against Gibraltar.
