Daoust chases milestone in matchup versus Two Rivers

The Southern Door Eagles will travel south to take on the Two Rivers Raiders, with a potential milestone mark being hit for Drew Daoust.

There will be lots of Eagle fans flocking down to Two Rivers to see Drew Daoust potentially break the 1000 point mark, which he is not very far away from. Daoust currently sits at 991 points and needs only nine to break that point mark that most seniors hope to reach. He will look to do it against a Two Rivers team the Eagles defeated last season by a score of 68-54 behind Daoust’s 28.

Southern Door is hot off a win over the Peshtigo Bulldogs 64-56 on Saturday afternoon. Peshtigo was the lone Packerland team to beat the Eagles this season, as they moved to 9-1 in Packerland play and have rattled off nine straight wins looking for their tenth on Tuesday night.

Two Rivers will have been off of game speed for a week as they were last on the floor last Tuesday against Brillion, falling 81-42. Orian Gauger was the leading scorer in that matchup with 15 points, a few points over his season average of 12.7 points per game. The Raiders are on the wrong side of a streak, having lost four in a row.

Tipoff from Two Rivers is slated for 7:00 P.M.

Eagles boys bite Bulldogs

Another big game from Drew Daoust led Southern Door past Peshtigo on Saturday 64-56

Daoust hit 13 shots from the field en route to a 33-point day. Taylor Schaefer added 12 points and four others registered at least three points. The Eagles were buoyed by an eight-point lead at halftime, an advantage they would hold onto for the rest of the game.

Mason Doberstein hit five three-pointers as he scored 21 points while Kaine Fort added 15 points in the loss for the Bulldogs.

Eagles wrestlers take fifth at Dirk Sorenson Door County Classic

The Southern Door wrestling team responded to Thursday's disappointment with a strong fifth-place finish at the Dirk Sorenson Door County Classic on Saturday.

Hayden Jeanquart (160) captured first place while Trevor Englebert (138) and Mason Motquin (120) took third. Three others placed in the tournament.

Packerland Conference showdown entails Eagle boys and Peshtigo Saturday

The top of the Packerland will be on the line on Saturday night when the Southern Door Eagles will take the trip up to Peshtigo to take on the Bulldogs on Saturday in a pivotal Packerland matchup.

Southern Door has only been defeated so far this season by these Peshtigo Bulldogs, as they lost 65-55 back on December 6th in the third game of the year. Although the Eagles lost by 10, Drew Daoust still got his own, scoring 28 in the loss. Southern Door will look to clean up their turnovers in this matchup, as they had 14 turnovers just on steals by the Peshtigo Bulldogs.

Mason Doberstein was the leader of the pack for the Bulldogs in their matchup against the Eagles in that game. Peshtigo is 13-2 overall coming into the second matchup against Southern Door, and are fresh off of a 39 point win over the Sevastopol Pioneers. The Bulldogs were on a nine game winning streak before losing to the NEW Lutheran Blazers, and now have got another streak on its way that currently sits at 3.

Tip-off from Peshtigo is set for 7:30 P.M.

Conference championship tips away from Southern Door wrestling on U 102.1

After beating Oconto 44-36, the Southern Door wrestling team could not come up with the points they needed as they fell to Peshtigo in the de facto Packerland Conference dual 39-36.

Head coach Jerry Englebert was thankful to be in a spot where they could capture a conference crown after three certain victories flipped on their head and ended as pins for Oconto.

Big second half sends Eagles soaring past Blue Devils

The Southern Door Eagles basketball team scored 51 points after the break to come back from nine points down en route to a 82-73 win over Oconto on Tuesday.

A big reason for the comeback was Drew Daoust, who scored 25 of his game-high 37 points after halftime. Jared Hawkey and Taylor Schaefer provided their own offense to complement Daoust, scoring 22 and 18 points, respectively in the victory for the Eagles.

The Blue Devils had three players also reach double figures in the loss, led by Kadin Baxter's 21 points.

Eagles start week against Blue Devils Tuesday

After a successful week of action against Kewaunee and NEW Lutheran, the Eagles of Southern Door will host the Oconto Blue Devils.

Southern Door fell only to the Peshtigo Bulldogs on their first trip around the Packerland Conference so far. Drew Daoust has scored the most points than any other player in the state of Wisconsin, and has players around him at the forward position that could lead the Eagles deep into the playoffs. The Eagles will look for another conference championship this season, which would be their eighth in nine seasons.

Even with the loss to Peshtigo, the Blue Devils have won 6 of their last 7 games and have begun to play their best basketball. Kadin Baxter and Carter Koch have mostly been responsible for most of their wins, but the role players have added big time production. In their most recent win over Sevastopol, Trenton Hartman who averages 4.6 points per game scored 17.

Tipoff from Brussels is set for 7:30 P.M.

Daoust heads for historic season led by family

The last name Daoust has echoed in the halls of Southern Door High School since the 2015-2016 school year, beginning with the oldest brother Kyle. Kyle Daoust currently holds multiple records in the glass record cases outside of the Eagle Gym at Southern Door, but the most memorable one being the most points scored in a single game, which he set at 51. Then came middle brother Alex, who had a hand in a Packerland Conference championship in all four years of high school. Alex currently coaches at Southern Door, who may have one of the best guards in the state, as a Sophomore.

Drew Daoust, the youngest brother, and potentially the most skilled between the three, is currently tearing through the Packerland conference averaging north of 30 points, which puts him at 4th in the state. Currently, Daoust sits 79 points off of 1000, and would be on pace to reach that Tuesday January 31st in Two Rivers.

Drew sat down with New Radio Sports Network before the January 17th game against Kewaunee, and briefly talked about his brother Alex as a member of the coaching staff, and how he has modeled his game after his two brothers.

Daoust and the Eagles currently sit at 10-3 overall and are in first in the Packerland at 7-1. Eagle fans and supporters can thank Daoust’s 12 point jump in scoring from last season, going from 19 points per game, to that notable 32 point mark. What does the future of this Eagle team have in store for the rest of the season? According to Drew, big things could be on the way, inclduing a Packerland Conference Championship.

Girls, varsity reserves post strong results at Wausau West

Our wrestlers were split at two different tournaments this past weekend.

Our girls were at the WI Challenge Series State Tournament in Wausau.  The number of girls wrestling continues to grow across the state and the tournament was very well attended.  This season, for the first time, the WIAA will be hosting a girls state tournament in conjunction with the boys state tournament in Madison.  Wrestling will be the same days as the boys the last weekend of February.  There will not be any regional competition for the girls.  All girls are eligible to wrestle in the girls sectional bracket with their school in their respective division.  The top finisher in each bracket will advance to State in a combined bracket with all three divisions.

The tournament this weekend was an open tournament for any female wrestler in the state (This was not a WIAA tournament).  Girls were there from all 3 divisions and every part of the state.  There was no seeding or pre-qualifier for this tournament.  Many girls will be using this weekends tournament to decide which weight class they will compete at this post season.  Some girls are looking for their best chance to win a state title, while others are looking to give themselves the best chance of advancing to the state tournament.  Our girls were able to wrestle some of the most highly ranked girls in the state, which happen to be from our area.

At 107 Nora LeFevre placed second.  After a bye, Nora earned 3 dominating pins to advance to the finals against top ranked Taylor Whiting of Oconto Falls.  Taylor's older brother Clayton won his fourth state title last season to finish his prep career and Taylor is looking to follow in his footsteps.  Nora worked hard but made a mistake in the third period which cost her the match.

At 132 Sydney Turner is listed as placing 8th, but due to the number of girls competing, the final matches were not wrestled due to time constraints.  Sydney also started with a bye and then earned a decisive pin before meeting #2 ranked Galoff of Brillion.  Sydney came out passive and couldn't keep pace losing to Galoff for the second time this season.  Galoff easily won the tournament.  In her next match Sydney didn't bounce back and lost a winnable match.  Sydney's tough and will learn from it.

Both Nora and Sydney do very well in our area and across the state, but Whiting and Galoff will both be in our sectional.  We will need to work hard in the next few weeks to fix our mistakes.

We had two guys competing in the Varsity Reserve State Tournament this weekend after qualifying two weeks ago in Neenah.  Thomas Jackson (170) went 4-1 on the day and finished as consolation champion.  His only loss was to Pecher of New London who won the title.  Thomas wrestled well and and is getting better each week.  He'll look to rejoin the varsity next week and see what he can do.  Ethan Alexander (126) also won his first match.

The Varsity guys were at the Herb Tyler Invitational at Sheboygan North.  Congratulation to Lukas Kallin our top finisher.  Lukas placed 3rd at 113 and wrestled very well.  He was fast paced switching from move to move keeping his opponents off balance.  For the rest of the team I feel after two weekends of big improvement we took a step back this week.  For some reason we just didn't compete with the same intensity or confidence, losing matches to wrestlers we beat already this season.  Hopefully we snap back next week as we have big duals rescheduled against Oconto and Peshtigo Thursday night at Sturgeon Bay.

Thanks

Coach Englebert

Eagles girls set to play Oconto Falls Saturday afternoon

The Southern Door Eagles girls basketball team will retake the floor on Saturday afternoon in Oconto Falls as they take on the Panthers in a matinee.

It will be one week since the Eagles last took the court against NEW Lutheran in a 64-44 win. Southern Door will look to repeat that momentum against the 5-9 Panthers. They will be looking to make it five wins in their last six games, with their only loss being a heartbreaking 56-54 loss to the Kewaunee Storm. The Eagles will look to use their scoring to get out to a fast lead, as Oconto Falls only averages 35 points per game.

For the Panthers, they are coming off of a defensive showcase, where they defeated the Little Chute Mustangs 28-27. Ashlynn Allen was the leader in that matchup for Oconto Falls, scoring nine points on 3-9 shooting. Maddy Maloney leads the Panthers in scoring this season, with 7.6 in 13 games.

Tip from Oconto Falls is set for 2:45 P.M.

Daoust's 41 pushes Eagles narrowly over Blazers on 103.3 The Clipper

The Southern Door Eagles can thank Drew Daoust for their win against the NEW Lutheran Blazers 75-72 on 103.3 The Clipper Friday night.

Drew Daoust had his scoring going early and often in this matchup, as he got into the painted area with ease, and did most of his scoring from the inside. Southern Door got into some serious foul trouble with their bigs, as Jared Hawkey and Taylor Schaefer had 3 and 2 fouls respectively going into the half.

Elijah Meerstein was the go-to scorer for the Blazers in the first half, as he had 15 at the break. The Eagles would lead 32-26 going into the break, led by Daoust's 21.

The second half would be a one on one scoring matchup between Daoust and Tristian Lynch. Both players would trade buckets back and forth, and Lynch would give the Blazers the lead with around 6 minutes to play in the second half.

The Eagles would lean on strong post play from Hawkey and Schaefer at the end of the second half, as both players would be clutch from the free throw line to wrap up the 75-72 win. Daoust and Lynch would both score 20 alone in the second half.

Southern Door had three players finish above 10 points, with Daoust finishing with 41, Hawkey with 15 and Schaefer with 12. Tristian Lynch led the Blazers with 26, joined with Elijah Meerstein pouring in 23.

Eagles boys set to battle Blazers on 103.3 The Clipper

The Southern Door Eagles will wrap up the first half of their Packerland conference play against Green Bay NEW Lutheran Blazers Friday night.

Southern Door knocked off the only former undefeated team remaining in the conference, defeating Kewaunee 63-59. Drew Daoust was spectacular in that matchup, leading the Eagles with 29 points on 9 for 12 shooting. Jared Hawkey was critical to the Eagles success down the stretch, hitting every free throw on the night, going 7 for 7. Southern Door’s defensive ability can cause problems to any team in the Packerland, and should be something the team relies on the rest of the season.

NEW Lutheran is having another strong season, led by the duo of Elijah Meerstein and Tristan Lynch. The Blazers blew out the Sevastopol Pioneers last time on the court, as they won in decisive fashion, 104-32. Lynch and Meerstein combined for 43 of the 104, but the Blazers showed their depth in that matchup as well.

Height in this matchup will be the storyline, as NEW Lutheran has 10 players over the height of 6’0”, and Southern Door has 12.

Gary Barta will be on the call from Southern Door on 103.3 The Clipper, 96.7 WBDK HD-2, and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com. The pregame show is set for 7:15 P.M. with tipoff set for 7:30 in a Packerland showdown.

Eagles girls travel to Oconto to start second half of Packerland play

This game has been postponed due to Thursday's storm closing school.

Pending the upcoming weather, the Southern Door Eagles will open up the second half of their Packerland season in Oconto against the Blue Devils Thursday night.

Southern Door is fresh off the win against NEW Lutheran where they won by 20, being led by their usual three scorers in Allianna Dufek, Ashlyn Delfosse, and Payton Gilbertson. Dufek finished with 20 and 10 for a double-double, and Delfosse finished with 15 and shot 4 for 5 from three. The Eagles fell to the Oconto Blue Devils 59-51 back on November 29th, part of a 5 game losing streak.

Oconto has once again been a strong contender in the Packerland conference this season after winning it last season. The Blue Devils find themselves tied for second with Peshtigo after losing to the Pioneers last Saturday. An underrated player for Oconto so far this season has been Madilyn Thomson as she has averaged 13.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game throughout her seven games played this season.

Tip at Oconto is set for 7:30 P.M.

Packerland wrestling title on the line on U 102.1

The Packerland Conference crown for wrestling is on the line Thursday night as Southern Door hosts county rival Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol, Peshtigo, and Oconto for a quadrangular meet.

Heading into Thursday's action, Oconto and Southern Door have each already beaten Kewaunee this season, while Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol and Peshtigo have yet to wrestle in a conference dual.

Last weekend, the Clippineers took 11th out of the 18 teams at the Cutler Classic despite battling low numbers, injuries, and sickness. All of its wrestlers placed, but Spencer Madsen was the top finisher for the team as he hit the podium in third place at 126 pounds at the Cutler Classic.

The Eagles competed in two different tournaments with the girls at Muskego, despite only having three wrestlers, placing 10th out of 33 teams.  At New London, the Eagles finished 3rd out of 18 teams.  Head coach Jerry Englebert says they are showing steady improvement and wrestling with more urgency and confidence.  There's room for improvement, but the growth in the last few weeks has been very fun to be a part of.

The Bulldogs won its own 11-team tournament with Reese Yunke (138), Ethan Brissette (145), Kyle Rupert (182), and Connor Thomas (220) winning their brackets.

The Blue Devils took sixth in the Valders Vikings Scramble with Dominic Caylor (160 pounds) winning his weight class while two others took fifth.

Weather permitting, Tim Kowols and Lucas Stephenson will have the action on U 102.1 beginning at 4:30 p.m with the pre-dual show followed by duals at 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 8 p.m. tentatively.

Eagles squeak past Storm on 103.3 The Clipper

The Southern Door Eagles defeated the Kewaunee Storm 63-59 behind a 30 point outburst from Drew Daoust.

The Eagles led for most of the game Tuesday night, as they got out to a very early lead, and only gave it up a handful of times. Taylor Schaefer scored the first five points of the entire night, as he was joined by fellow senior forward Jared Hawkey in assisting the Eagles to an early lead.

Thomas Stangel would not let Southern Door get too comfortable with a lead however, as he scored the first 8 points for the Storm, who had Cal Ihlenfeldt battle with foul trouble throughout the whole night. Southern Door would get out to a 13-12 lead, and that is when Daoust would begin to erupt.

Multiple transition-and-ones was the story for Drew Daoust between both halves, as he finished with 13 in the first half and 17 easy points in the second. Daoust and company had Southern Door leading 31-26 at half.

Schaefer and Hawkey would assist even more within the second half, as Kewaunee would cut the lead down to as little as two, but never lead in the second half en route to the 4 point loss. Schaefer would finish with 12 and Hawkey finished with 15.

Southern Door will take on NEW Lutheran next on 103.3 The Clipper, while Kewaunee prepares for Sturgeon Bay.

Southern Door grapplers post impressive results at two tournaments

On Saturday, we competed in two different wrestling tournaments.

The guys were at the Cutler Classic in New London and the gals were at the Warrior Cup Invitational in Muskego.  Both the guys and gals did very well.  At Muskego, despite only having three wrestlers, our team placed 10th out of 33 teams.  At New London we finished 3rd out of 18 teams.  We are showing steady improvement and wrestling with more urgency and confidence.  There's room for improvement, but the growth in the last few weeks has been very fun to be a part of.

At Muskego Sydney Turner was our top finisher placing second at 132.  Sydney's first four matches were all by fall, 1:49, 1:11, 1:01 and 5:55.  In the finals Sydney wrestled tough but couldn't keep pace with Kylie Rule (21-0) from Mineral Point.  Despite the loss, that is the match we wanted to learn from.  Nora LeFevre finished third place at 107.  Nora started with a tough 7-0 decision win followed by two pins then a tough 3-0 loss.  In the third place match Nora won another hard fought 11-5 decision for third place.  The third place match was especially nice- avenging a youth state loss from last season.  Lilly Wrenn finished fifth at 114.  Lilly was the 14 seed on the bracket and started with a pin over the 2 seed.  After losing the next match to the eventual second place finisher Lilly earned three straight pins to end the day.  Lilly showed her grit in the last match.  Losing late in the third period, she worked her technique earning a reversal and securing the fall in 5:04.

At New London Hayden Jeanquart was our top finisher as he won the championship at 160.  Hayden was easily the best at his weight class with a bye, tech fall and two pins.  Hayden had a very good day working technique and was in complete control of each match.  Jonas Jandrin finished 2nd at 182 with a bye, two pins then a tough loss to undefeated Alexander from DePere.  Alexander was just back after an injury and placed 3rd at state last season.  Mason Motquin 120 and Trevin Veesser 138 both finished third and Wyatt Wilke fourth at 132.  Mason is much more composed and in control.  This was Trevin's first podium finish on Varsity and Wyatt avenged a loss from earlier this year.

Coming up this Thursday is our only home meet of the season.  We will be hosting Oconto, Peshtigo and Sturgeon Bay to wrap up our conference season.  Duals are scheduled to start at 5:00, 6:30 and 8:00.  Both Oconto and Peshtigo are much improved from last season with full rosters.  Sturgeon Bay is on the upswing as well and all three will be tough tests.  Should be a very good night of wrestling.

Coach Englebert

Eagles girls cruise in win over Blazers

The Southern Door Eagles girls basketball team were able to bounce back from a loss with a 64-44 win over the NEW Lutheran Blazers.

Southern Door fell in upset fashion against the Kewaunee Storm earlier in the week and was looking to get back on the right track. The Eagles were able to do that in the win and move to 8-7 overall and 4-4 in Packerland Conference play. Southern Door will get a short break before traveling to Oconto on Thursday.

For NEW Lutheran, they could just not get the offense going this afternoon, as they failed to score over 50 in Packerland play again, stretching that streak to 6 games of under 50 points in conference play. The Blazers will welcome in Sturgeon Bay next Thursday to begin their second trip through conference play.

Southern Door squares off against NEW Lutheran in Girls Basketball

The Southern Door Eagles are coming off of a tightly contested loss to the Kewaunee Storm 56-54, and will turn their attention to a weekend matchup against NEW Lutheran.

The Eagles have had a rocky season so far, with streaks of wins and longer streaks of losses defining their year. Allianna Dufek has been a bright spot in wins, as she sits 4th in the Packerland in scoring, and 2nd in rebounding. The guards have also been strong for Southern Door this year, but the defense will have to shut down Blazers Forward Ebony Sinclair.

The Blazers sit in the exact situation as the Eagles do, both being 7-7 Overall and 3-4 in Packerland play. NEW Lutheran enters the matchup against Southern Door on a 3 game conference losing streak, with losses against Sevastopol, Oconto and Peshtigo.

The game is set to tip in Green Bay.

Daoust, Eagles outlast Vikings on U-1021

A 9-0 run towards the beginning of the second half proved to be the fatal blow the Southern Door Eagles needed as they went on to beat the Gibraltar Vikings 55-47.

A combination of foul calls and good defense kept both offenses at bay early with the Vikings' Braden Sitte and the Eagles' Drew Daoust trading buckets early. A late run by the Vikings, led by Sitte's nine first-half points, gave them a slim 25-23 lead at the break. The Vikings would build the lead out slightly to four points before the Eagles went on their 9-0 run that would determine the fate of the evening.

Daoust did not hit a three-pointer in the contest but made nine shots from the field in the second half en route to a 35-point game.  Many of those points came after Mateo Jauregui injured his ankle after anchoring a defense that frustrated the Eagles sophomore in the opening frame. The Vikings would not get closer than four points after the 9-0 run, despite Sitte and Will Friedenfels each registering six of their 15 and 11 points respectively in the second half. Carl Burgess contributed nine points to the cause in the Vikings' loss. For the Eagles, it was Jared Hawkey acting as Daoust's sidekick with 11 points with Taylor Schaefer contributing four points and a strong defensive presence.

Both teams play again on Tuesday with the Eagles traveling to Kewaunee to face the Storm while the Vikings welcome the Clippers of Sturgeon Bay for 7:30 p.m. tips.

Eagles girls play host to Storm

The Eagles of Southern Door are set to host the Kewaunee Storm in girls basketball action on Tuesday night in Brussels.

Southern Door won two games in two nights as they defeated the Algoma Wolves and Gibraltar Vikings Thursday and Friday night. Allianna Dufek was stellar in those two matchups, scoring 19 points against the Wolves and 17 versus the Vikings. The Eagles were able to get to the Free Throw line with ease, and could be something they could build on, and pull out close wins with that usage.

Kewaunee will look to snap their seven game losing streak in their matchup against the Eagles. Brianna Demmin and Summer Walechka have been the leaders for the Kewaunee Storm, as they have averaged 8.4 and 6.5 respectively. The Storm are a high turnover team, and play better when they limit their turnovers, like in their win against Gibraltar.

Tip from Southern Door is set for 7:30 P.M.

Eagles wrestling split for the weekend

The Southern Door Eagles wrestling team will go their separate ways this weekend for a pair of tournaments.

The varsity team will be competing at the Rocket Scramble in Cedar Grove and the JV and Girls teams at the JV state qualifier in Neenah. Beginning at 9:30 a.m., the Rocket Scramble will feature Wauwatosa West, Valders, Horicon, Cambridge, Brillion, Campbellsport, Lomira, Oostburg, Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan South, Marshall, and
Deerfield. The Neenah Tournament, which will also feature a varsity component, will feature Appleton East, Appleton North, Appleton West, Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, Brillion, Chilton, De Pere, Denmark, Fond du Lac, Fox Valley Lutheran, Green Bay Preble, Green Bay West, Kaukauna, Kewaunee, Kiel, Kimberly, Little Chute, Luxemburg-Casco, Manitowoc Lincoln, Manitowoc Lutheran, Menasha, Mishicot, New Holstein, Pulaski, Seymour, Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol, Two Rivers, Valders, West De Pere, Wrightstown, and Xavier. Action there begins at 9:30 a.m.

Here's what Coach Jerry Englebert said about last week's tournament action:

Thursday and Friday, Southern Door wrestled at the "Oshkosh on the Water" tournament in Oshkosh.  This year 68 teams competed in the tournament, representing all three divisions and one team coming from Illinois.  Always a great tournament, and this year's field included several nationally-ranked wrestlers.

As a team had a very good week of practice and wrestled better top to bottom.  That said, we're still looking to take the next step and compete at a higher level.  We have the talent and athleticism to compete at a higher level but can't seem to pull everything together.  Hopefully, this experience will be a motivating factor moving forward.

Eagles girls bounce Vikings

The Southern Door Eagles girls' basketball team used a strong first half to power past Gibraltar 56-46.

For the second straight game, the Eagles could get to the line, making 23 of their 44 free throws. Allianna Dufek led the Eagles with 18 points, Bella Price scored 14 points, and Ashlyn Delfosse added another 13 points.

On the flip side, the Vikings went 9-for-15 from the line. Andie Schar scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the first half. Colleen Carlisle added 13 points while Mikala Gorham and Betsy Lecy each added eight points in the loss.

Charity stripe friendly for Eagles in win

The Southern Door girls' basketball team spent a lot of time at the free-throw line in its 48-42 victory over Algoma on Thursday.

The Eagles went to the line 32 times on Thursday, knocking down 23 of their attempts. Compare that to the Wolves, who went 6-14 from the stripe on the evening, committing seven more fouls than the Eagles on the night.

Alianna Dufek led the way with 19 points, while Payton Gilbertson added 10 points in the victory. Ryley Zimmerman did what she could to keep things close, scoring 13 points for the Wolves.

Both teams are in action again on Friday, with Sturgeon Bay sailing to visit the Wolves, and the Eagles soaring to Gibraltar

Delfosse looks to lead Eagles against Wolves

After their win over the Roncalli Jets, the Southern Door Eagles girls basketball team will shift their focus back to Packerland conference play as they take on the Algoma Wolves Thursday night.

Ashlyn Delfosse has been the Eagles break out player so far this season, as she finished with 23 points in the win over Roncalli. Southern Door, currently sitting at 5-6, can get back to .500 with a potential win over Algoma. That would be great news for the Lady Eagles, after losing 6 of their last 8 games after starting 3-0 in non-conference play.

For Algoma, they fell to the Brillion Lions last time they were in action, as they participated in a holiday tournament at the Oshkosh Arena. The Wolves currently sit at 5-5 overall and 3-2 in Packerland play, thanks most to their outstanding guard play from Ryley Zimmerman and Halle Panger.

Tip from Southern Door is slated for 7:30 P.M.

Southern Door girls defeat Roncalli

On Tuesday night, the Southern Door Eagles beat the Roncalli Jets 69-43 in nonconference girls' basketball.

Ashyln Delfosse led the way for the Eagles with 23 points, who cruised to an easy victory at home.

Eagle boys cruise over Sheboygan Falls

The Southern Door Eagle boys’ basketball team won a non-conference road game over Sheboygan Falls Tuesday night 66-49.  Drew Daoust had a monster game with 36 points, while Taylor Schaefer and Jared Hawkey each chipped in 13 points for the Eagles.  The Eagles took a 29-23 lead into halftime and outscored the Falcons 37-26 the rest of the way to come away with the decisive win.

Eagles girls host Roncalli

The Southern Door Eagles girls' basketball team hope to get the New Year off with a good start when Roncalli comes to Brussels.

Outside of their win against Sturgeon Bay on December 16th, the Eagles have not posted a victory since their Denmark Tournament run at the end of November. The Eagles have proven to have plenty of scoring options, with Allianna Dufek, Ashlynn Delfosse, and Payton Gilbertson all averaging double-figures on the season.

The Jets went winless in the Reedsville Holiday classic last week, losing to Reedsville and Manitowoc Lutheran while failing to crack the 40 point plateau. Lauren Stangel leads the team in scoring with 9.8 points per game.

Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.

Southern Door boys travel south to face Falcons

The Southern Door Eagles boys basketball team will return to the court Tuesday night as they travel south to take on Sheboygan Falls in a non-conference matchup.

After a huge win over county rival Sturgeon Bay, the Southern Door Eagles have a chance to make their winning streak be an official one at three games with a win over Sheboygan Falls. Drew Daoust has been the playmaker all season so far for the Eagles, with his last two games being scoring outputs of 42 and 34. He will look to add to that again against the Falcons.

For the Falcons, they have struggled to get anything going so far this season, with their record so far showing a 1-6 start. Their one win came in a low scoring 44-41 victory over the Chilton Tigers in December. The Falcons were able to beat the Eagles in the season opener last season, as they held Southern Door to zero made three pointers.

Tip from Sheboygan is set for 7:00 P.M.
