Both sides of the ball took two weeks of frustration out on their opponent Friday night as the Southern Door Eagles shut out the Mishicot Indians 40-0 in Brussels.

After a slow start for both teams, Eagles defensive back Jared Hawkey picked off Indians quarterback Jacob Hibbard to provide a spark midway through the first quarter. Nick Baudhuin scored the first of his three three-yard touchdown runs to get the Eagles on the scoreboard first. The Eagles offense was dealt a blow early in the second quarter when quarterback Alex Daoust injured his leg on the team's second touchdown drive that Baudhuin finished off. Finishing off the quarter in relief of Daoust, sophomore Jack Peterson led the Eagles on three touchdown drives including his own 18-yard strike to Devin Schinktgen with just seconds to go to give the Eagles a 26-0 lead at the half. 

No one would reach the endzone again until the fourth quarter when Nick Baudhuin scored from 24 and seven yards out to close out the game. Baudhuin would finish the evening with 254 rushing yards and five touchdowns while Peterson ended his day with 70 yards of total offense. Head coach Ryan Zuelke said on the postgame show that Alex Daoust will be reevaluated on Friday to figure out the extent of his injury.

The Eagles defense was able to shut down the Indians' rushing attack for most of the game while also forcing a pair of interceptions.

The Eagles will stick around town next weekend when they host their regular-season finale against the Bonduel Bears. The Southern Door Eagles hope to reverse their fortunes when they host Mishicot Friday night.

In two straight games against teams from higher divisions (Luxemburg-Casco Division 3, Sheboygan Falls Division 4), the Eagles have been outscored 90-14. Head coach Ryan Zuelke told NRSN the team has spent this week refocusing and his staff has been challenging the kids all week with great response from the kids.

Mishicot comes into the game 2-1, winning their last time out against Clintonville 20-8. Preparing for Mishicot has been no different than many of their other games this year since they have never faced the Indians in Packerland Conference play. Zuelke says the Indians run a little bit of everything.

Southern Door's active approach to mitigating its risks to COVID-19 has helped keep its football team on the field.

The Eagles have been able to play in all five of its scheduled games so far this season, going 3-2 in that span. A big reason why is because it has been able to keep enough players on the sidelines and out of quarantine. Second-year Brady Tooley says the team has done a great job making sure they do what they need to do to keep playing football.

The Southern Door Eagles football team could not find their offensive rhythm Friday night, falling 41-0 to the Sheboygan Falls Falcons 41-0.

The Falcons forced several three-and-outs and turnovers to keep the Eagles at bay, allowing less than 200 yards of total offense in the contest. Meanwhile, the Eagles defense was tested early, first through the air when quarterback Isaac Klemme found Dylan Grohskopf for a long touchdown pass to open the scoring at 7-0. Jon Mathieu took care of things from there, scoring three of his four touchdowns on the ground to put the game out of reach early. Preston Miller capped off the scoring with a rushing touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the second quarter.

The play of the game for the Eagles came in the first half when cornerback Jack Peterson made an athletic play on a deep ball from Klemme to grab an interception in the endzone.

The loss dropped the Eagles to 3-2 on the season before they face Mishicot at home next Friday. The Southern Door Eagles football team looks to turn page on its season when it heads to Sheboygan Falls Friday to face the Falcons.

The Eagles started strong but saw the game slip away in their 49-14 loss to Luxemburg-Casco last week. Quarterback Alex Daoust had to rely on his legs to keep the Eagles offense moving, rely on option runs to gain 124 yards on 17 carries. Nick Baudhuin was also producing, gathering 85 total yards and a score in the game. Daoust currently leads the Packerland Conference in passing with 596 yards and nine touchdown passes while Baudhuin leads the league in rushing with 496 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Falcons enter the game with a perfect 3-0 record on the truncated season, winning last week 29-8 over Berlin. Like the Eagles, the Falcons rely on a strong running game behind  Jon Mathieu. The senior running back has 593 yards and five touchdowns on the season.

The Southern Door Eagles cross country have run their last race of the season.

Despite a good showing at the Packerland Conference meet at Cherry Hills Golf Course last week, the Eagles were scratched out of Tuesday's subsectional meet hosted by Luxemburg-Casco. No reason why was given why the team was scratched from the meet, but they will join Sturgeon Bay and Kewaunee in sitting it out.

The Southern Door Eagles football team saw their three-game winning streak come to a halt on Friday night as Luxemburg-Casco pulled away in the second half for the 49-14 victory.

The Eagles drew first blood as Alex Daoust scored on a quarterback keeper from 17 yards out to make it 7-0. Isaac Vandenbush scored his first of six touchdowns on the evening for the Spartans from 83 yards out to tie things up at 7-7. After Vandenbush scored from 38 yards out to make it 14-7 Spartans, Daoust was able to connect with Nick Baudhuin on an eight-yard pattern to tie up the proceedings at 14 apiece. That drive was set up by a miscue by the Spartans on a punt attempt.  It was all Spartans after that as Vandenbush ended the half on a three-yard scamper to make it 21-14. Owen Deprez' long touchdown pass to Ryan Routhieaux and another three touchdowns by Vandenbush capped off the evening for the Spartans. Head coach Ryan Zuelke says they have plenty to work on before their next game.

The Eagles will return to action next Friday when they travel to Sheboygan Falls. 102.1 MORE FM will air the game on-air and online beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Tim Kowols and Bryan Mazur on the call.

The Southern Door cross country had several top 20 finishers in Thursday's Packerland Conference championships at Cherry Hills Golf Course in Sturgeon Bay.

The girls took second place on the afternoon with 44 points, finishing behind Sevastopol's 18. Brooke Strege paced the Eagles with a time of 22:45 on the hilly 5K course, which was good for sixth place overall. Other top runners for the Eagles included:

The boys were one of three squads that did not have enough runners to qualify for a team title, which narrowly went to Sevastopol.  Mason Massart's time of 20:44 was good for 14th overall to lead the Eagles. Other runners included:

The Eagles will travel to Luxemburg to compete in the WIAA Division Subsectional.

Southern Door looks to stay perfect on the season but break up a losing streak to an old Packerland rival Friday night when it hosts Luxemburg-Casco Friday night.

The Eagles saw the running game that was so dominant earlier in the season struggle its last time out against Oconto, but quarterback Alex Daoust more than made up for it with over 250 yards through the air and three touchdown passes. Head coach Ryan Zuelke expressed that appreciation after the game last week.

Despite last week's performance, the Eagles are still averaging over 285 yards a game on the ground while outscoring opponents this season 146-31.

On the other sideline the Spartans look to rebound from a 41-16 loss to Wrightstown its last time out two weeks ago.  The team does have the ability to put up some points as well, blowing past the Waupaca Comets in a Week 1 victory 41-15. 

Athletic director Korey Mallien reminds fans that due to the increasing numbers of the COVID pandemic, Packerland Conference rules, and the state order about limiting capacity of gatherings, the football game between Southern Door and Luxemburg-Casco is CLOSED to the general public.  Attendance is limited to two fans per varsity football player for both teams. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. Fans must be on an approved "fan list" at the gate in order to be admitted. There will be a mutual respect on both sidelines Friday night when Southern Door hosts Luxemburg-Casco for a revival of a former Packerland football conference rivalry. The Spartans left the Packerland Conference in 2007. The Eagles are trying to snap a five-game losing streak dating back to 2002, including a 29-14 loss during their last matchup in 2006. With their respective games against Kewaunee and Denmark canceled, the Eagles and the Spartans were able to link up for the game. Luxemburg-Casco coach Cody Willems tweeted his excitement shortly after Southern Door athletic director Korey Mallien tweeted the announcement.

The Southern Door Eagles had to rely on their passing game to soar past the Oconto Blue Devils 42-12 on Friday night. 

The Eagles got off to a slow start offensively before an interception set up a first-quarter touchdown for the Blue Devils on 10-yard pass from Caleb Moe to Will Sherman.  After a scoreless first quarter for the Eagles, Alex Daoust was able to find Jack Peterson and Marcus Marchant to take a 14-6 lead into halftime. The Eagles made some adjustments to loosen up the running game that was held to less than 50 yards in the first half. The Eagles would score three touchdowns in the third quarter, two of which were on the ground. Daoust opened the frame with a 22 yard scamper for a score followed by a Nick Baudhuin touchdown from seven yards out. With time running out in the third quarter, Devin Schinktgen turned a 10 yard pass from Daoust into 48 yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 35-6 lead. The Blue Devils would score one last time in the fourth quarter thanks to a 14 yard catch by Alex Fuller from Moe. The score was set up by a long run by Houston Rude. The two teams would exchange fumble recoveries before Baudhuin would visit the end zone one more time from 15 yards out to finish out the scoring for the Eagles. 

The Eagles were held to less than 150 yards rushing after averaging more than 350 yards in its first two games. Daoust made up for it through the air, throwing for 200-plus yards and three touchdowns.

The Eagles will face Luxemburg-Casco next Friday night for a non-conference matchup between the two former Packerland rivals. 102.1 MORE FM and 96.7 WBDK will air the game beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the pre-game show followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.

It could be a while before Southern Door plays again after its game Friday against Oconto.

Kewaunee athletic director Brian Rabas told NRSN that he has notified Southern Door athletic director Korey Mallien that the Storm would not be able to play in next Friday's game due to his district being 100 percent virtual learning. Kewaunee had hoped to play at least the football season in the fall after pushing its other sports to the alternative spring season, similar to what Southern Door has done for its volleyball program.

That means Southern Door will likely not play until October 23rd when it travels to play Sheboygan Falls. 

The Southern Door offense hopes to keep firing on all cylinders when it travels to Oconto Friday night.

Powered by a three-headed rushing attack of quarterback Alex Daoust and running backs Nick Baudhuin and Christian Counard, the Eagles have averaged 52 points a game in their first two matchups of the season. The Eagles are coming off a 60-12 homecoming victory over a depleted Peshtigo roster. 

The Blue Devils scored only six points in its only game this year, a loss against new Packerland Conference member Mishicot. Last week's game against Crandon was cancelled due to community and school spread at Crandon.

It is hard to believe Southern Door was not taking a hard look at Alex Daoust at the beginning of last year.

This week's Culver's Student-Athlete of the Week is off to a hot start this season, already throwing for 272 yards and five touchdowns with just one pick. He has also been able to use his legs to get his team going offensively, rushing for 141 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown.  He is already closing in on the production he had his junior year when he threw for 572 yards and threw 3 touchdowns and three interceptions. Head coach Ryan Zuelke said last week that Daoust took the offseason seriously and prepared very well entering his senior campaign.

Daoust and the Eagles travel to Oconto this Friday night as they look to go 3-0 on the truncated season. The game will air live on 102.1 MORE FM and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.

Due to the decision to move volleyball to the spring, the Eagles played their last event of the fall Saturday. Southern Door lost both of their matches in a triangular at Oconto. The Eagles lost a tight one to St. Mary Catholic 21-25, 26-28, and fell to Oconto 11-25, 18-25. Southern Door plans on starting up the volleyball season in the spring with practices starting February 22.

Southern Door has decided to move its volleyball season to the spring. The Eagles have already participated in a few events this fall, including a triangular at Oconto Saturday. After playing a triangular at Oconto today, the season will be postponed to the spring. Southern Door Athletic Director Korey Mallien says moving to the spring may get them more opportunities to play.

Mallien says that there will be meetings within the conference to see what kind of schedule could be put in place. There isn’t a set date for how long the spring season could last but practice will start on February 22.

The Southern Door volleyball team is traveling to Oconto on Saturday to compete in a triangular against St. Mary Catholic and Oconto. The Eagles are looking to avenge their earlier loss on Tuesday against Oconto 8-25, 12-25, 7-25. This will also be their first matchup with St. Mary Catholic this season. Oconto enters the triangular with an impressive 12-1 record with their only loss being against Howards Grove. St. Mary Catholic enters Saturday with a 2-4 record. 

The triangular is set to start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. 

The Southern Door cross country had three of its runners finish in the top-10 in its races against Sevastopol and NEW Lutheran Thursday afternoon at Cherry Hills Golf Course. 

In the boys' race, the Eagles' Mason Massart took sixth overall with a time of 19:57. The Eagles’ other two runners, Cody Penovich and Spencer Slezewski finished with times of 21:43 and 23:41. Sevastopol won the boys race with a score of 27 while Southern Door and Green Bay N.E.W couldn’t field a complete team. 

The girls were able to field a full team and finished with a score of 46. Sevastopol and N.E.W. tied at 37 but Sevastopol won the tiebreaker due to having a sixth runner. Southern Door's Brooke Strege (22:36) and Sanya Wienke (22:53) finished fifth and sixth overall.  Lydia LeCloux finished in seventh, running a time of 23:06 on the 5K course. The remaining scorers finished in the top 15.

A five-touchdown explosion in the second quarter sent the homecoming crowd in Brussels home happy after the Southern Door Eagles beat the Peshtigo Bulldogs 60-12 Friday night.

The Eagles opened up the scoring in the first quarter on a 20 yard passing play from Alex Daoust to Jack Peterson. From there the Eagles did their work on the ground, scoring on eight rushing touchdowns. Nick Baudhuin led the way for the Eagles rushing attack, running for over 220 yards and five total touchdowns. He found the end zone four times in the second quarter with Daoust scoring the other touchdown to give the Eagles a 40-0 half time lead.

Baudhuin added another touchdown from over 45 yards out in the 3rd quarter, only to be outdone by Christian Counard’s 55-yarder later in the frame. The Bulldogs would get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter with Will Boettcher scoring from 10 yards out and lineman John Schaut recovering a Peterson fumble in the end zone. Counard closed out the scoring after the miscue with his second touchdown on the day, this time from 27 yards out.  The Eagles were able to take advantage of some Bulldogs miscues, scoring after an interception by Daoust, an onside kick, and a muffed punt.

The Eagles will take their perfect mark on the road next week to Oconto, which had its two attempts at a game on Friday canceled. NEW Radio Sports Network will carry the game on 102.1 MORE FM beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.

POSTGAME SHOW WITH HEAD COACH RYAN ZUELKE

The Southern Door football team hopes to still bring the homecoming flair to Brussels Friday evening when it hosts Peshtigo.

The Eagles are coming off a dominating 44-7 victory over Clintonville last week. Alex Daoust threw for four touchdowns and over 200 yards in the victory while Nick Baudhuin and Christian Counard each added scores on the ground. Head coach Ryan Zuelke says Daoust took advantage of the offseason to improve his craft

The Bulldogs will play their first game on Friday after the late start to the season and Sturgeon Bay moving their contact sports to the spring. That is not the only thing plaguing the Bulldogs according to coach Jeff Bayerl.
