DKHS.com's Champion of Champions Series: 2006 Sturgeon Bay/Southern Door Swimming

Teams closed the gap in 2006, but it was still not enough to knock off the Sturgeon Bay/Southern Door boys swim team as they won their fourth straight state title.

 

The team eclipsed 300 points for a second year, also outpacing Whitefish Bay for a second straight year and McFarland coming at a distant third. An all senior squad of Dennis Knipfer, Dylan Schneider, Chris Richard, and  Luke Cummings captured the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:37.50. The team also won relay titles in the 200 yard freestyle (1:28.33, 40, 1) Dylan Schneider 12 2) Dennis Knipfer 12 3) Kyle Trelka 10 4) Sam Parent 12) and 400 yard freestyle (3:10.67, 40, 1) Luke Cummings 12 2) Kyle Trelka 10 3) Sam Parent 12 4) Chris Richard 12). No individuals won their own state titles, but all competing swimmers finished no worse than 10th.

DKHS.com's Champion of Champions Series: 2005 Sturgeon Bay/Southern Door Swimming

It was another year and another state title for the Sturgeon Bay/Southern Door Boys Swim Team in 2005.

 

Sturgeon Bay/Southern Door proved be even more dominate, scoring 393 points in the meet, topping Whitefish Bay by almost 150 points and Whitnall by 175 points. The meet saw the 200 freestyle team set a state record with  Luke Cummings, Sam Parent,  Kevin Campbell, and Chris Richard swimming a time of 1:26.63. Luke Cummings, Sam Parent, Kevin Campbell, and Shane Eliason would swim another state record time, this one a 3:10.44 in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The 200 yard medley relay also swam a state record time with Dennis Knipfer, Dylan Schneider, Shane Eliason, and Chris Richard posting a mark of 1:37.15. Eliason would win a third straight title in the 100 back stroke and add a championship in the 100 yard butterfly. Parent and Campbell went 1-2 in the 200 yard freestyle event while Chris Richard won the 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle to add to the top podium finisher list for the team.

Eagles soar for Scholar-Athlete awards

The names of the four Southern Door scholar-athlete award winners have been announced by the Packerland Conference. 

 

Brock Aune, Sam Dean, Jacqlin Atkins, and Kendra Dantoin earned the awards after being nominated by their principal, Steve Bousley. To be recognized, scholar-athletes must be a second-semester senior, earn at least four varsity letters during their career. and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.
