Eagles beat by hosts Denmark in weekend tournament

Southern Door girls played their first of two games Friday at the Denmark Thanksgiving classic. It was a tough game from the beginning with the Vikings coming in undefeated meanwhile the Eagles are searching for their first win.

Denmark jumped ahead early, turning a 15-4 lead into a 24-point swing before Southern Door would respond. Strong shooting and lockdown defense set the tone for the game. The Eagles, down 37-10 at halftime, would be beaten 67-20.

Struggles early on continue for the Eagles, but they'll be back on the court tomorrow at 12 p.m. in Denmark to play Cedar Grove-Belgium.

Southern Door basketball drops road games Tuesday

On the road for the girls and boys basketball teams, Southern Door fell in both contests Tuesday night.

The boys began their season with a tough matchup on the road at Denmark, falling 71-56.

It's a tough way to open the season for a team that went 19-4 and a perfect 12-0 in conference last season, but the team will look to bounce back with a long season ahead.

Four Eagles players reached double-figures with Talon Mueller registering a team-high 14 points, Eli Jadin collecting 12 points, Lauden Berg adding 11 points, and Ryker Lohrey chipping in 10 points.

They will dive right into conference play with Sevastopol December 4th a 7 p.m. jump at home.

For the girls, the start of the season has been a slow development and the first road game was no different. A 63-36 loss to Brillion puts them at 0-3 in non-conference games.

After a short Thanksgiving break, they'll play in a pair of games this weekend against Denmark (Nov. 28th, 7 p.m.) and Cedar Grove-Belgium (Nov. 29th, 12 p.m.).

Southern Door falls at home to undefeated Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah

Southern Door hosted one of the hottest teams in the region Saturday but couldn’t keep pace, falling 51-29 to undefeated Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah. The Eagles were put on their heels early as the Resorters surged to a 26-5 halftime lead, using defensive pressure and quick scoring runs to create separation.

Southern Door showed more composure in the second half and generated better offensive looks, but turnovers and missed shots made it difficult to close the gap. Despite the improved effort after the break, the early deficit proved too challenging to overcome.

Elkhart Lake, now 3–0 with wins over both Gibraltar and Southern Door this week, continued its impressive start. Southern Door falls to 0-2.

The Eagles will look to regroup on Tuesday, Nov. 25, when they travel to Brillion for a 7 p.m. tip.
