Eagles clinch state berth

For the first time in over a decade, the Southern Door Eagles softball team is heading back to the state tournament in Madison after defeating Oconto 5-0.

Pitcher Lexi Wery got more than enough help offensively as she kept things in check from the circle, pitching seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts while just allowing two hits. Wery also helped her cause with a two-RBI double. Jacie Atkins also had a pair of RBIs while Kendra Dantoin collected two hits. Grace LeGrave did her damage on the base paths, scoring two of the Eagles' five runs.

The next stop for the Eagles is Goodman Field on the campus of the University of Wisconsin where they will play next Friday at either 10 a.m. or noon. Teams will be seeded before an opponent is announced.

Eagles softball soars to regional final over Storm

Lexi Wery allowed just three hits in Southern Door's sectional semifinal win over conference rival Kewaunee. Wery secured the win with seven innings of work while striking out five.

The Eagles did not need much, but got all that was required thanks to four runs in the second inning  because of RBI hits by Melanie Watters, Jessica Jacobson, and Grace LeGrave. Teyha Bertrand played long ball in the third inning with a home run, part of a 10 hit day for the Eagles.  Wery, Nicole Norton, and Bertrand each collected multiple hits for the Eagles.

The Eagles will now take on Packerland foe Oconto at Chilton at 5:30 pm on Thursday for the right to advance to state.

Tyler Kroll and Derik LeCaptain were named All Packerland Conference players on the first team both as infielders. They helped lead the Eagles to a 10-6 record in the conference. Four Eagles made the second team as well. They are Charlie Neinas at pitcher, Devin Schinktgen at catcher, Alex Daoust as an infielder and Logan Jeanquart as an outfielder.

Comeback comes up short for Eagles baseball

The Southern Door Eagles refused to give up in its 6-5 loss to Kewaunee in the WIAA Baseball playoffs.

The Storm had a 6-0 lead before Southern Door began chipping away at it in the bottom of the fifth inning when Max Pierre stole home and Logan Jeanquart drove two more runs in to cut the lead in half. The Eagles would inch closer in the bottom of the seventh thanks to Tyler Kroll's two-run single. The winning run was at the plate before a strikeout ended the rally and the game for the Eagles.

Southern Door wins regional championship in extras

Much like its sectional opener opponent Kewaunee, Southern Door had to play some extra softball to win its regional championship over Valders Thursday 3-2.

Grace LeGrave led the way for the Eagles, going 2-4 from the plate with a pair of runs scored while also throwing three innings in relief. Tehya Bertrand hit a home run in the win. Lexi Wery had done a lot for the Eagles before she ever scored the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, throwing five innings of shutout softball.
