Eagle Season Ends on U102.1

The Southern Door Eagle's season ended on the road Friday night against the top seeded Manitowoc Lutheran Lancers 80-29.

Manitowoc jumped out early, and the Eagles could not gain any traction against the full court press the Lancers implemented from the start, turning the ball over, and falling behind on several transition baskets by the Lancers top two all-time scorers Makiah Krause and Marissa Mehlhorn.

The Eagles were led in the game by Kyleigh Claflin with 11, and 4 from both Sophia Price and Chelsie Claflin.  Chelsie would leave the game with an injury around halfway through the second half.

Playing their last game for the Eagles basketball team were Alanah Kay, who was held scoreless, and Lillian Delwiche who was able to put in the final basket of the season.

Eagles boys fall to Bulldogs

Lauden Berg had a game-high 17 points but the Peshtigo Bulldogs had three players hit double figures as they went on to beat Southern Door 68-50 on Thursday.

The Bulldogs outscored the Eagles by nine in each half with different heroes emerging in thos periods. In the first half, Ryker Lohrey scored all eight of his points thanks in part to a pair of threes while the Bulldogs countered with Brady Polzin's three three-pointers to go into the locker room with 11 points.

In the second half, Berg made his biggest impact with 11 points coming after the break. Levi Hodgins gave the Bulldogs their boost with 13 points in the second half. The Bulldogs gave themselves their space from behind the arc as they hit six three-pointers in the second half.

The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Algoma to face in-conference rival Algoma. Jacob Nate will have the call on U-102.1 beginning at 6:45 p.m. followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.

Eagles visit Lancers in Round 2 on U102.1

The #9 Southern Door girls will hit the road once again in the second round of the WIAA playoffs, this time visiting Manitowoc to take on the Lancers Friday night on U102.1.

After surviving a last second shot by Mishicot on Tuesday, the Eagles have a date with the #1 seeded Manitowoc Lutheran Lancers.  Southern Door hopes to continue to ride the hot hands of both Kyleigh Claflin and Alanah Kaye who had 24 and 18 points respectively in their win Tuesday night.

Manitowoc Lutheran finished second place in the Big East-North, finishing at 10-2 in the conference 20-4 overall. The Lancers beat Mishicot twice during their regular season by over 35 points each game. They are led by Makiah Krause who averages 17.3 PPG and Marissa Mehlhorn who averages 14.1 PPG.

You can tune in for the action by joining Jacob Nate on U102.1 or NEW Radio Sports Network starting with the 6:45 pregame show, with tipoff to follow at 7:00.

Eagles wrestlers still alive at WIAA State Tournament

All four Southern Door wrestlers at this weekend's WIAA State Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison will have to stay alive by battling through the consolation round.

Lance Veeser recorded the lone victory on the day for the Eagles, beating Marathon's Tate Sonnentag 6-5 before getting pinned in the quarterfinals.

On the girls' side, Portia Hah nearly got out of her first round match with a victory, but fell to Neenah's Amari Richards 6-3 in sudden victory while Sydney Turner and Skya Scrimgeour were both pinned in their tournament openers.

Kaye and Claflin Push Eagles Past Indians on U102.1

The #9 Southern Door Eagles made the first, and the last, bucket of the game, and every single point was crucial in the 57-59 victory over #8 Mishicot on U102.1 Tuesday night.

Southern Door would lead for a majority of the first half, giving up the lead for the first time 10 minutes into the game when Mishicot finally went ahead 18-17.  No team would have a lead larger than 6 in the first half, battling back and forth, hitting the halftime buzzer knotted up at 30 each.  Kyleigh Claflin led the half for the Eagles with 13, just a point ahead of their second leading scorer Alanah Kaye with 12.

The second half was just as contest as the first with no lead bigger than 7. Perhaps the game's biggest turning point came at the free throw line, where after going 12-14 in the first half as a team, Mishicot went cold at the line, shooting just 8-16 in the second half.

Alanah Kay would take a trip to the line in the closing seconds of the game, making the front end of a bonus attempt, putting the Eagles up by 2.  After a lane violation prevented the game from becoming a 3-point game, Mishicot would get across the half court line and call a timeout.  Coming out of their timeout, Mishicot would get the shot attempt the wanted, but with Kensi Rosenow missing, and the putback attempt falling short, Southern Door advances.

Kyleigh Claflin led all scorers on the night with 24.  Alanah was just behind her with 18.

The win sets the Eagles up with a Friday night matchup with #1 seed Manitowoc Lutheran who had a bye Tuesday.

Eagles boys grounded by Blue Devils

The Southern Door Eagles boys basketball team could never quite catch the Oconto Blue Devils on the road Monday, dropping the contest 70-60.

The Blue Devils outscored the Eagles in the first half 43-38 thanks in part to their ability to hit shots from the outside. Seven of their made 12 three-pointers were made in the opening frame, including two from Alex Madrigal. Lauden Berg did what he could to keep the game close as he scored 13 of his team-high 19 points in the first half.

Mason Colvin kept hot streak going from beyond the arc as he connected on three en route to a 21-point performance to lead the Blue Devils. The Eagles' Ryker Lohrey hit four three-pointer to complement Berg with 14 points.

Southern Door Girls Opens Playoffs on U102.1

Mishicot also finished in the middle of its conference, ending the regular season 5-7 in the Big East-North and 13-11 overall. The winner will face top-seeded Manitowoc Lutheran on Friday night.

During the regular season, the Eagles were led by junior Kyleigh Claflin in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Senior Alanah Kaye ranked second in both categories and led the team in assists. Kaye averaged 7.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.

Sturgeon Bay will finally make up a game postponed with Oconto Saturday Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. and the Eagles will travel to face Algoma Monday at 7 p.m.
