Eagles soar over Spartans on 104.1 WRLU

The Southern Door Eagles used a 16-0 run late in the first half to come away with a convincing 69-42 win over Luxemburg-Casco Monday night at home.

The Spartans came out with a "diamond and one" defense that shadowed Eagle star Drew Daoust and contained him early on.  The Spartans managed to stay with the Eagles early as Chase Bukouricz and Lance Cherovsky scored five points in the first ten minutes to close within 15-14.  That's when the Eagles cranked up the defense and were able to force turnovers that turned into easy baskets.  The Eagles scored the final 16 before halftime to take a commanding 31-14 lead, as the Spartans could never make a run in the second half to get back into the game.

Daoust led the Eagles, scoring 16 of his game-high 28 points in the second half.  Jared Hawkey added 17 points, with 13 of those coming in the first half.

The Spartans were led by Lance Cherovsky, who scored 14 points while hitting four three three-pointers.  Bukouricz chipped in seven more.

Luxemburg-Casco (7-13 overall, 6-8)  now takes on Freedom Friday night in the NEC, while Southern Door 16-3 overall, 10-1)will travel to Sturgeon Bay on Thursday to face the Clippers in Packerland Conference action.
