Eagles girls set for WIAA playoff showdown against Algoma on U 102.1

The Southern Door Eagles girls basketball team will head into the first round of the WIAA playoffs winners of four straight as they prepare for a third matchup against the Algoma Wolves Tuesday.

Southern Door has been able to do it multiple ways in their four game winning streak dating back to February 2nd, bringing their overall record to 14-10 coming into the game. Whether it was holding these Algoma Wolves to 40 points, or blowing out NEW Lutheran and scoring 67 points. The Eagles have also won two nail biters in their streak, beating Kewaunee on a game winner, and surviving Gibraltar 56-52. Allianna Dufek, Payton Gilbertson and Ashlyn Delfosse have been the difference so far this season, and will look to carry that into the postseason.

The Algoma Wolves will enter the matchup with the Eagles at 11-13 overall and winners of two of their last three games. Ryley Zimmerman has been the headliner for the Wolves this season, joined by Emily Kirchman, who has come on strong as of late towards the end of the season. Algoma fought off a tough stretch of games midway through the year, losing six straight from January 16th to February 7th, many of those games being one possession games.

These two teams have matched up twice this season, with the Eagles sitting at 2-0 in the season series with wins of 48-42 in Brussels and 47-40 in Algoma. Allianna Dufek was the leading scorer for the Eagles in both of those games, with Payton Gilbertson in double figures both times as well.

Jacob Nate and Gary Barta will be on the call from Southern Door on U-102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com. The pregame show is set for 6:45 with tip at 7:00 for the WIAA Girls Basketball Level One Playoffs.
