Southern Door wrestlers took advantage of one last opportunity to get competition in before next week's regionals at the Preble JV Tournament.
Ethan Alexander (119-128lb), Thomas Jackson (167-179 lb), and Hailey Veeser (131-143 lb) all won titles at their respective weight classes. Three others took second place and two more took third.

Saturday Southern Door competed at the Green Bay Preble wrestling tournament. This has traditionally been a JV tournament but this year included a separate Girls Division. Great for the girls to get another tournament in before their post season starts in two weeks. Because the girls do not have a regional the next time they compete will be at the individual sectional level.
To make the most of the tournament each wrestler was paired into weight classes with the closest four or five other contestants. Our top finisher was a welcome surprise as Hailey Veeser won the title at 131-143. Hailey is back wrestling after a couple years off. Hailey was a successful middle school wrestler but chose to focus on basketball the past two years This year she plans to finish the basketball season and wrestle as well. Finishing second in that same bracket was Sydney Turner. Both girls wrestled very well. Sydney will be at 132 or possibly 126 for the post season and Hailey at 138 or 145 so they will not be competing at the same weight.
Nora LeFevre also placed second at 89-108. Nora had to battle in her first two matches and didn't really hit her stride until the third round. Round one was a tough 2-0 decision that showed her grit as she held on for the win. In round two Nora was leading 10-2 late in the third before Jackie Zungia from Preble caught her off balance in an awkward position and scored the fall. Definitely a winnable match and a mistake Nora won't make again.
At 114-122 Lilly Wrenn placed 3rd. Lilly is doing better and more technique every time she wrestles. She is improving at a very good pace and should do well at 120. She lost a tough one in the final round that I feel she could have won but otherwise looked very good.
For the JV boys we did very well and congratulation to Ethan Alexander and Thomas Jackson who both finished first in their brackets.
