Luxemburg-Casco football stays perfect in route of Shawano Saturday

Luxemburg-Casco kept their record perfect at 6-0 (3-0) with a 37-8 win at Shawano Saturday.

Eli Derenne had a phenomenal performance through the air, starting with a 28-yard strike to get the Spartans on the board after their first defensive takeaway.

A swing pass late in the second quarter added another 20-yard touchdown pass for Derenne and put Luxemburg-Casco up 20-0 at the half.

The Spartans defense flourished with three fumble recoveries in the win, one that was nearly returned for a touchdown by Brayden Loritz. It still set up a touchdown a few plays later for a 27-0 lead.

Shawano would scrap for a touchdown and two-point conversion, but not without L-C adding a few more scores themselves en route to a blowout 37-8 victory. Looking to stay perfect, the Spartans get back to a normal Friday schedule as they travel to face Two Rivers (1-5, 1-3) October 3 with a 7 p.m. kickoff. Spartans fly past Falcons on 104.1 WRLU

Luxemburg Casco grabbed an early lead over  Sheboygan Falls and never looked back, taking down the Falcons 44-6 as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

The Spartans got the game’s opening kickoff, and promptly marched down the field, capping off the drive as Eli Derenne found Tatem Klaubauf for an 18 yard touchdown pass.  Jacob Walton nailed the PAT kick to make the game 7-0.   Luxemburg Casco’s defense sandwiched a pair of punts with one of their own, before getting back on the board with another Klaubauf touchdown, this time from 19 yards out.  Walton’s kick missed right, keeping the score 13-0. The Spartans defense kept the Falcons under wraps, before driving down the field, where Brayden Loritz found the endzone for a fifth consecutive game, and rushed in for the ensuing 2 point conversion, increasing the lead to 21-0. The Falcons were pinned back to their own 8 yard line, after the kickoff, and went backwards once again, and had to punt.  After picking up a couple first downs, Derenne tossed another touchdown, this time finding Brady Kinnard for a 20 yard score.  Walton got back on track, making the kick to build the lead to 28-0.  Sheboygan Falls was forced into another punt, but the snap was too high for Mason Richter, who fielded the ball in the endzone and promptly tackled by Julian Bailey for a safety.  Luxemburg Casco got the ensuing punt and took the punt into Falcons territory.  Klaubauf added one more touchdown to an incredible night, scoring from 17 yards out. Blayten Schoenebeck got to attempt the point after kick, putting it through the uprights, to increase the lead to 37-0 just before halftime.  The score was enough to ensure a running clock for the remainder of the game.

Sheboygan Falls got the second half kickoff, and after converting for a first down on 4th and 4, Richter took a direct snap to the house, scoring from 42 yards out.  The Spartans stopped the two point conversion, keeping the score at 37-6.  The Spartans started mixing in reserves, and marched down the field once again with Ben Klass finding the endzone from 3 yards out. Schoenebeck nailed another PAT kick, closing the scoring at 44-6.

Spartans head coach Neil Seering joined us in the postgame show, speaking highly of his squad’s effort that led to getting the younger players some big minutes late in the game.  You can check out the full interview below.

Spartans look to remain unbeaten on 104.1 WRLU

Heads are turning across the state, as the now ranked Luxemburg Casco Spartans host the Sheboygan Falls Falcons tonight on 104.1 WRLU.

Last week’s 21-3 win over Wrightstown brought enough attention to the Spartans to earn them the 10th spot in the Bound Wisconsin coaches poll rankings.  Luxemburg Casco relies heavily on their ground game in that win, as Eli Derenne, Cam Dorner, and Brayden Loritz all rushed for scores last week.  Derenne led the effort with 88 yards on the ground, while also completing 8 of 11 passes for 102 yards.

Sheboygan Falls comes into this game at 0-4 on the season, fresh off a 52-6 loss to Winneconne last week.  Sophomore running back Olen Berg scored the team’s first touchdown of the season last week, part of a 107 yard effort.  Despite the Falcons record, Spartans coach Neil Seering said in his postgame interview last week that the team needs to remain hungry and not overlook any opponent.

Join Eric Fischer and Ramsay Thompson on the call, with the pregame show starting at 6:45 and kickoff following at 7pm.

Hinckley's hat trick takes Thunder to Seymour for Spartans

On Friday night, Rylen Hinckley did it all for the Luxemburg-Casco soccer team, which beat Seymour 3-0.

Hinckley registered a hat trick with goals in the 12th, 57th, and 78th minutes. While the second goal came via a penalty kick, Elvin Mendoza and Pierce Gerl helped Hinckley score the other two goals.

Both goals were peppered with shots all night long, but the Spartans' Carson Koller posted a clean sheet with eight saves. Julian Jaimes made seven saves in the Thunder's loss.

The Spartans are now 3-2-1 this season. L-C will play a North Eastern Conference game on Tuesday at Wrightstown.

Spartans tame Tigers on 104.1 WRLU

Luxemburg-Casco earned a massive win within the North Eastern Conference, taking down Wrightstown 21-3 as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

Two very similar teams, with a run-heavy focus and great defenses, clashed, with each defense stopping the opposition on their respective opening drives. Luxemburg Casco got on the board first, forced a defensive stop, then marched down the field on the legs of Eli Derenne.  A pair of big runs from the quarterback bookended the drive, capped off with a 20-yard scamper for a score.  Jacob Walton made the kick to put the Spartans up 7-0.  The teams exchanged stops throughout the first half, and the game went to halftime with the same score.

Starting the half with the ball, Luxemburg-Casco went down the field before a pair of penalties backed the Spartans up to 4th and 12 from the 32.  Eli Derenne chucked a deep ball to Mason Trimberger in the endzone, but Trimberger could not haul in the pass, and Wrightstown would take over.  The Tigers pieced together their best drive of the ballgame, picking their way down the field, earning a 1st and goal at the Spartans' 9.  A holding penalty backed Wrightstown up, and the Tigers could not reach the endzone, settling for a Daniel Buntin 34-yard field goal, making the score 7-3.  Luxemburg Casco responded strongly, as Derenne found Tatum Klaubauf for a couple of first downs through the air, before Cam Dorner struck for a 29-yard touchdown run. Another Walton PAT kick put the Spartans up 14-3.  Dorner wasn’t done there.  Following the kickoff, on Wrightstown’s first offensive play, Dorner chased down Buntin, and just before completing the sack, Buntin threw the ball into the ground for an intentional grounding penalty, pinning the Tigers back to 2nd and 32.  Julian Bailey sacked Buntin on the next play to back them up further.  A minimal 3rd down gain forced a Wrightstown punt, which Dorner returned to the Tigers 42.  Brayden Loritz took over in the Spartans' backfield and picked his way down the field on three read-option keepers, scoring a 1-yard touchdown. Walton drilled the ensuing PAT kick to put Luxemburg Casco up 21-3 with just 1:38 left in regulation.  The Tigers would try to pull off a miracle, but it was quickly snuffed out after a Joey Jeanquart interception sealed the game.

Coach Seering met us on the field after the broadcast and credited his players' resilience amid some adversity and mistakes. You can see the full interview below.

According to the Bound WI coaches poll, Wrightstown comes into the game as the 8th-ranked team in Division 4.  The Tigers have gotten off to a 3-0 start, including a 35-0 win over NEC foe Sheboygan Falls last week.  Brody Wilson ran back for 105 yards and three scores, part of a 231-yard effort by the Tigers.

Spartans conquer Vikings on 104.1 WRLU

On a night of celebrating our country’s past and present military heroes, the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans rolled past the Denmark Vikings, winning 27-6, as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

After forcing a fumble on Denmark’s opening drive, the Spartans' offense found the endzone when Brayden Loritz took a handoff 50 yards for the game’s opening score.  The teams would trade possessions for the majority of the half.  With time winding down in the second quarter, Cam Dorner nearly scored on a 42-yard run, getting tackled by the last Denmark defender on the 9-yard line.  After a timeout, Eli Derenne kept a read option and marched into the endzone to put Luxemburg Casco up by two scores, going into halftime with a 14-0 lead.

The second half's opening kickoff was returned for a would-be touchdown for Mason Trimberger, only to be called back by a block in the back penalty.  No matter, the Spartans' offense would march down the field, with Loritz again finding the endzone, this time from 10 yards out, putting Luxemburg Casco up 20-0. The PAT attempt was missed, keeping the score at 20-0.  Denmark would rally for a long drive, with the Vikings offense making it to the Spartans 3 3-yard line.  A bad snap backed Denmark up to the 20 before Luxemburg-Casco could force a turnover on downs.  The two teams exchanged punts before Luxemburg-Casco could add one more score, as Brayden Loritz found the endzone one last time from the 5-yard line.  Denmark would finally find the endzone late in the 4th, when quarterback Jayden Binsfield found Thomas Bienapfl for a score.  The Vikings' PAT attempt missed, and the Spartans recovered the ensuing onside kick attempt before a pair of kneel-downs ended the game.

Luxemburg Casco moves to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in North Eastern Conference play.  Coach Neil Seering joined us after the game to reflect on a hard-fought win and preview next week’s game against last year’s WIAA Division 5 runner-up, the Wrightstown Tigers.
