The answer will be posted at 7 AM on Friday.

Thiry and Delebreau lead L-C cross country

The Spartan girls finished a little closer to the top with a score of 171. They were led by Alyssa Delebreau and her 21st-place finish. Delebreau's time was 21.35.8.

Regional championship for Luxemburg-Casco volleyball

Luxemburg-Casco swept Freedom on their home court on Saturday to take home a regional championship. The scores went 25-17, 25-15, 25-18. Bekah Day led the Spartans with 32 assists and 7 digs. Holly Baierl had 13 kills while Alli Routhieaux added 13 digs. Hannah Derenne had a great all-around game nine kills and eight digs.

The top-seeded Spartans will now host (3) Notre Dame in the Division 2 Sectional Semifinals on Thursday at 7 PM. Notre Dame knocked off 2-seed Denmark 3-1 on Saturday.

Luxemburg-Casco eliminated from soccer tournament

Luxemburg-Casco High School's boys soccer team fell to (5) Sheboygan Falls at home Saturday afternoon. Sheboygan Falls never trailed in the match. The Falcons were up 2-1 at halftime and netted the first three goals of the second stanza. The final was 5-2. Cody Arendt in the 13th minute and Matthew Conway in the 73rd minute were the tallies for Luxemburg-Casco in the contest. L-C was a four seed in the Division 3 tournament bracket so the result was a mild upset.

Sheboygan Falls will take on (1) Seymour on Halloween.

L-C Volleyball hosts Freedom

Three Door Peninsula high school volleyball teams are still alive for Saturday night action in the WIAA postseason tournament. The highest seed, and the only home team, is Luxemburg-Casco. The (1) Spartans had a bye in the first round Tuesday. If there was any rust it didn't show against Oconto Falls. L-C won in straight sets Thursday night 25-15, 25-13, 25-14.

Saturday, they play (4) Freedom. Both teams are out of the North Eastern Conference so they have played each other this season. L-C took that matchup in Freedom in straight sets. Freedom knocked out Sturgeon Bay in the second round in a match that could have gone either way. The Clippers won the first set 25-21 and were within mere points of taking the second, 25-27. Once the momentum swung, the Irish rolled in sets three and four.

A look back at Luxemburg-Casco volleyball

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team earned a number one seed in the Division 2 State Tournament this season and the success of the program can be traced back a long way. Colleen Tymus took over the program as head coach back in 1979 and was the longest-tenured (so far) coach in the Spartans volleyball history. She coached for 17 years and her run came to an end after the 1995 season. L-C won five regional championships under Tymus.

Tymus was the correct answer to Thursday's trivia question. Congratulations to Dawn Hanson for answering the question correctly. Dawn will win a $25 certificate to The Rendezvous in Luxemburg.

Saldana gets another hat-trick in regional semi-final

Luxemburg-Casco's Griffin Saldana would own a lot of hats if he played hockey instead of soccer after the Spartans beat Wrightstown Thursday night at home 4-1.

Saldana scored three times, including the game-winner in the 61st and an insurance goal in the 89th to lead the way for the Spartans. Carter Sewell also reached the back of the net in the victory. Next up for the Spartans is Sheboygan Falls in the regional final in Luxemburg beginning at 4 p.m.

Spartans post-season hopes dashed with 30-22 loss to Wrightstown on WBDK

Luxemburg-Casco fought hard but came up short Friday night with a 30-22 loss to the Wrightstown Tigers in a North Eastern Conference regular-season finale.

The Spartans fell behind early as Wrightstown scored on their first three offensive drives.  Tailing 14-0 after one quarter, the Spartans were able to get on the board with 11:17 left in the second quarter on a one-yard run by running back Reece Worachek.

Wrightstown led 21-7 at halftime before Spartan quarterback Matt Cravillion scored from 3 yards out to close the gap to 21-14.

The Tigers scored twice to take a 30-14 lead early in the fourth quarter before the Spartans made a late rally with a 12 yard run from Worachek to get within eight points but could not capitalize on two Wrightstown fumbles in the final five minutes.  The Spartans were denied with 36 seconds left on fourth and goal from the one-yard line when Worachek slipped after the hand-off and was stopped short of the goal line.

The Spartans (3-5, 3-6 overall) will now miss the playoffs for the first time in seven years.  Wrightstown (7-1, 7-2 overall) will now wait for the seeding after finishing second in the North Eastern Conference.

Spartans volleyball sinks Marines

Luxemburg-Casco hit the court for one of its final tune-ups Thursday before WIAA Tournament action begins.

The Spartans swept Marinette 3-0, not allowing the Marines to even hit double digits by winning their sets by scores of 25-5, 25-4, and 25-5. It was a balanced night of offense for the Spartans with Hannah Derenne registering six aces and four kills while Holly Baierl and Grace Holschuh  each adding at least five kills of their own. Bekah Day led the Spartans from the setter position with 17 assists on the evening.

Coisman's big game against Wrightstown last year

He scored in the 88th minute when the Spartans were trailing 2-1 and the teams ended up tying 2-2. L-C led 1-0 at the half behind a goal from Carter Sewell in the 19th minute. Spartans fall to Mustangs 6-0 in OT on WBDK

In a defensive-dominated game, the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans lost in overtime to the Little Chute Mustangs 6-0 at the Luxemburg-Casco Sports Complex.  With less than ideal field conditions, both teams relied heavily on their rushing attacks all evening long.  The Spartans had numerous opportunities in the first half to get on the board, including a missed field goal in the first quarter and quarterback Matt Cravillion was stopped at the one yard line as time expired in the first half.
Both teams played a field position game in the second half with the Spartans getting down to the Little Chute 15 yard line in the final minute only to lose ten yards on two plays before kicker John Larson slipped and missed a 40 yard field goal at the end of regulation.
In the overtime, Mustang running back Jacob Debruin scored on a two yard run to give the Mustangs the 6-0 lead.  The Spartans could not muster any positive yardage on their first three plays in overtime and a desperation pass by Owen Deprez fell short in the end zone to end the game.
The Spartans outgained the Mustangs 261-184 in total yards as Cravillion and Reece Worachek combined for 189 yards in rushing but it was not enough as Little Chute defense bended but did not break all night.
Luxemburg-Casco (3-4, 3-5 overall) will now travel to Wrightstown next Friday in a must-win game to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

Spartans volleyball sweep Irish

After a close first set, the Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Freedom Thursday.

Hanson, Bekah Day, and Alli Routhieaux had a busy day in the dig department, combining for 43.  Day added 31 assists in the victory.

Luxemburg-Casco soccer has come a long way

The 2019 season is only the 18th year the Luxemburg-Casco boys soccer team has been around. This year's Spartans team is 8-4-2 and 5-0 in the North Eastern Conference. That's a much better record they had cobbling together a team in 2002. The Spartans finished that season 6-13-2 behind Head Coach Jenny Bandow.

2002 was the correct answer to Thursday's trivia question. Congratulations to Jill Dalebroux for answering the question correctly! Jill is the winner of a $25 certificate to The Rendezvous in Luxemburg.
