Spartan boys season ends with loss to Pulaski on 104.1 WRLU

The #9 seeded Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys battled back Tuesday night but eventually fell to the  # 8 Pulaski Red Raiders to take on the Red Raiders 79-62 in a WIAA Division 2 boys basketball regional quarterfinal.

 

The game started back-and-forth with L-C staying close and tying the score at 18 midway through the first half before Pulaski would go on a run to close out the half with a 37-27 lead.

 

The second half started out with Pulaski building a 15-point lead before the Spartans made a big run to close within 53-50.  After a couple of baskets were exchanged, Pulaski went on a 26-12 run to put the game away.

 

The Red Raiders were led by Derek Shaw, scoring 14 of his game-high 23 points in the second half.  Caleb Blohowiak paced the Spartans with 21 points while Jack Rollin added 15 more in the defeat.

 

The Spartans finish the season 8-17 with four graduating seniors having their high school careers come to an end; Blohowiak, Rollin, Ethan Vandenhouten, and Max Steinfeldt.

 

On Friday night, Pulaski (10-15) will travel to West De Pere to face the #1 Phantoms in the sectional semi-final.

 

 

Spartans travel to Pulaski in regional opener on 104.1 WRLU Tuesday

The #9 seeded Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys will travel to # 8 Pulaski to take on the Red Raiders in a WIAA Division 2 boys basketball regional quarterfinal on Tuesday night.  

 

The Spartans (7-11, 8-16 overall) dropped their last game to Fox Valley Lutheran in the NEC finale 81-48.

 

Pulaski (5-13, 9-15 overall) finished eight in the Fox River Classic Conference and lost to De Pere 76-54 last Friday.

 

In the previous non-conference match-up in January, Pulaski beat the Spartans in Luxemburg 69-59.

 

The Red Raiders are led by Derek Shaw averaging 19.7 points per game, while the Spartans’ Chase Bukouricz paces the Spartans with 11.5 points per contest. 

 

The game will be broadcast on 104.1 WRLU with Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard on the call.  The game will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network at 6:45 pm with the pregame show and tip-off set for 7 pm.

 

The winner of the game will travel to West De Pere to face the Phantoms in the sectional semi-final on Friday night.

Luxemburg-Casco wrestling earn top-seed for Team State

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team now knows who they will face in the opening round of the Team State Wrestling Tournament this weekend in Madison.

 

The Spartans drew the top seed and will face #4 Evansville in the opening round. Luxemburg-Casco had seven wrestlers place at last weekend's individual state tournament. Easton Worachek (132), Max Ronsman (145), and Trace Schoenebeck (182) each lost their championship matches to come in second place overall in their respective weight classes. Jake Jandrin (106, 5th) and Blakelee Bastien (126, 3rd) won their final matches of the weekend while Caleb Delebreau (138, 6th) and Michael Bostwick (113, 6th) also placed. The Spartans were top scoring team at the tournament among Division 2 teams with 83.5 points.

 

Evansville had four wrestlers make it to Madison with 132-pounder Danny Heiser winning the title over Worachek. 

 

The winner will take on the victor of the #2 Prairie du Chien vs. #3 Baldwin-Woodville matchup. Prairie du Chien lost to eventual champion Amery in last year's Team State Tournament and sent seven wrestlers to Madison this past weekend, five of which placed and one, Rhett Koenig, placed 1st at 138 pounds.  Baldwin-Woodville sent four to the individual tournament, placing two of them.

Plenty of hardware is coming home from Madison for the Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team.

 

Easton Worachek (132), Max Ronsman (145), and Trace Schoenebeck (182) each lost their championship matches to come in second place overall in their respective weight classes. Jake Jandrin (106, 5th) and Blakelee Bastien (126, 3rd) won their final matches of the weekend while Caleb Delebreau (138, 6th) and Michael Bostwick (113, 6th) also placed.

Three Spartans in line for state wrestling title bouts

Finishing on top of the podium at the WIAA State Wrestling Meet is still a reality for three Luxemburg-Casco wrestlers.

 

Easton Worachek (132), Max Ronsman (145), and Trace Schoenebeck (182) each won their two matches to advance to the grand march on Saturday. Jake Jandrin, Michael Bostwick, Blakelee Bastien, and Caleb Delebreau are also in line to medal.

Lady Spartan season ends with loss to West De Pere on 104.1 WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Lady Spartans' season ended Friday night as the West De Pere Phantoms rolled to a 62-22 win in a WIAA Division 2 girl’s basketball regional semi-final. 

 

 The Spartans started out strong, jumping to a 4-2 lead in the first three minutes, but West De Pere would go on a 9-0 run to take an 11-4 lead and never look back.   

The Phantoms took a 33-17 lead into halftime behind a big first half from Faith Walder, who scored 16 points will, most coming on driving layups off the dribble.

West De Pere would go on a 20-1 run to start the second half and put the game away with relentless defense and transition baskets from turnovers.

 

Walder led the Phantoms with 18 points, and Eva Francois added 17 more as West De Pere scored consistently from the outside and inside all night. 

 

 #6 seeded Luxemburg-Casco finished the season 11-14 and will have seven returning players next year as seniors Amanda Fameree, Haley Paye, Lily Giese, and Sammy Treml left the game together in the final seconds to end their careers.

 

#3 West De Pere (19-5) will now travel to play #2 Fox Valley Lutheran on Saturday in the regional final.

 

The next L-C Spartan basketball broadcast will be the boys' regional opener against the Pulaski Red Raiders Tuesday night in Pulaski.  Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard will have the call on 104.1 WRLU and streamed on New Radio Sports Network. 

Seven Spartans prepared for Day 2 of state wrestling tournament

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team went 3-1 on the  opening night of the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament on Thursday.

 

Jake Jandrin (106) and Caleb Delebreau (138) picked up wins by decision while Michael Bostwick (113) concluded his night of work with a first-period pin in less than a minute. Isaac Jerabek (120) saw his individual season end with a 9-3 decision. In addition to Jandrin, Delebreau, and Bostwick, Max Ronsman, Easton Worachek, Trace Schoenbeck, and Blakelee Bastien will wrestle on Friday.

Lady Spartans look for upset at West De Pere on 104.1 WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan girls will have a tall task ahead of them as they travel to West De Pere Friday night in a WIAA Division 2 girl’s basketball regional semi-final. 

 

#6 seeded Luxemburg-Casco (11-13) finished at 8-8 in the North Eastern Conference and are coming off a 66-30 loss to Fox Valley Lutheran last Thursday.

 

The #3 seeded Phantoms (19-5) won the Bay Conference with an 11-1 record and come in the game with a four-game winning streak and having won nine of their last 10 contests.

 

The Spartans are led by freshman Brianna Bray with 7.6 points per game, while the Phantoms are paced by Faith Walder averaging 14.1 points per contest.

 

The pregame on 104.1 WRLU begins at 6:45 p.m. with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.  The game will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network with Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard on the call. 

 

The winner of the game will advance to play either #7 Ashwaubenon or #2 Fox Valley Lutheran on Saturday in the regional final.

Foxes run past Spartans 81-51

The Luxemburg-Casco boys could not keep up with the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes Tuesday night, falling 81-51 in Appleton.

 

The Foxes jumped to a 40-20 lead in the first half and never looked back.

 

Chase Bukoricz scored 14 points and Caleb Blohowiak dropped in 11 more, but it was not enough to overtake the NEC  leading Foxes.

 

Fox Valley Lutheran was led by Nick Kraftzenk with 14 points as the Foxes spread the their scoring around.

 

Luxemburg-Casco will now get ready for a first round WIAA Divsion II regional next Tuesday at Pulaski facing the #8 Red Raiders.  The Spartans are the #9 seed with the winner to face the #1 West DePere Phantoms.  You can listen to Tuesday's game starting at 6:45 pm on 104.1 WRLU and streamed on New Radio Sports Network with Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard on the call.   

L-C boys wrap up regular season at Fox Valley Lutheran

It is tournament time after Tuesday night when Luxemnburg-Casco finishes off the NEC regular season schedule in Appleton against Fox Valley Lutheran.

 

The boys hung on for a thrilling 54-51 game over the Waupaca Comets in a North Eastern Conference matchup in Luxemburg last Friday night on Senior Night. Jack Rollin led the Spartans with 19 points and played stellar defense with numerous steals.  Chase Bukouricz added 12 points and hit key free throws down the stretch as well to secure the win.

 

The Foxes are 20-3 on the season and are riding a 11-game winning streak. That run started with an 87-38 win over the Spartans where Sam Ferge scored 26 points and Adam Loberger added 23 points.

 

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Two win titles, six other Spartans wrestlers advance

A total of eight Luxemburg-Casco wrestlers will battle under the Kohl Center lights next weekend after their day at the Wrightstown Sectional.

 

Blakelee Bastien (126) and Easton Worachek (132) won their respective weight classes, with the latter picking up two pins and a major decision along the way. Jake Jandrin (102, 2nd), Michael Bostwick (113, 2nd), Isaac Jerabek (120, 3rd), Caleb Delebreau (138, 3rd), Max Ronsman (145, 2nd), and Trace Schoenebeck (182, 2nd) also qualified for the state meet.

Spartan boys win thriller over Waupaca on 104.1 WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys hung on for a thrilling 54-51 game over the Waupaca Comets in a North Eastern Conference matchup in Luxemburg Friday night on Senior Night.

 

The game started with both teams struggling from the field, with the Spartans taking a narrow 10-6 lead midway through the first half.  The rest of the half saw both teams trading baskets and the Comets taking a slim 22-20 lead into intermission. 

 

Luxemburg-Casco would come out quickly in the second half, scoring the first six points before Waupaca recovered, and the lead changed hands several times before the final minute.

The Spartans would take a three-point lead on two free throws by Jack Rollin with under two minutes to play, and the score held up as Waupaca missed two three-point shots in the final 11 seconds on separate possessions to come up short, 54-51. 

 

Jack Rollin led the Spartans with 19 points and played stellar defense with numerous steals.  Chase Bukouricz added 12 points and hit key free throws down the stretch as well to secure the win.

 

 

 

 The Spartans (7-10, 8-15 overall) will now finish the regular season on the road next week with a game at Fox Valley Lutheran (15-2) and await the seeding for the Division 2 pairings for the WIAA tournament that will come out on Sunday afternoon.

 

Waupaca fell to 5-12 and 5-17 overall. 

 

The next Luxemburg-Casco broadcast game will be next Friday as the Lady Spartans travel to take on West De Pere Phantoms. The broadcast will be on 104.1 WRLU with Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard on the call.  The game will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network starting at 6:45 pm, with the pregame show and tip-off set for shortly after 7 pm.

Spartans girls fall to Fox Valley Lutheran

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team fell behind early and could not keep up with Fox Valley Lutheran in a 66-30 loss Thursday night.

 

The Spartans found themselves down 28-17 after the first half as the Foxes' Emily Jaenke scored 10 of her team-high 17 points in the first half. By the end of the game, 11 different Foxes scored at least three points with Savanna Charron (nine points) and Myah Loberger (eight points) the next leading scorers.

 

Brianna Bray led the way for the Spartans with 11 points, who scored eight points in the first half and was the only player on the team to hit more than two shots from the field. Maggie Hanmann hit two three-pointers en route to a seven point game and Sami Treml added four points. 

Spartan boys host Waupaca on 104.1 for Senior Night

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys take on the Waupaca Comets in a North Eastern Conference matchup in Luxemburg Friday night.  

 

The Spartans (6-10, 7-15 overall) dropped their last game to Little Chute 68-42 on Tuesday.

 

Waupaca (5-11, 5-16 overall)  is coming off a close 51-48 home loss to the Clintonville Truckers, and beat the Spartans 77-70 at home earlier this year.

 

The Comets are led in scoring by Henry Mouw who is averaging 15 points per game, while the Spartans’ Chase Bukouricz paces the Spartans with 12 points per contest.

 

Luxemburg-Casco’s will honor five members of the team during Senior Night ceremonies before and after the game in Luxemburg.  The game will be broadcast on 104.1 WRLU with Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard on the call.  The game will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network starting at 6:45 pm with the pregame show and tip off set for shortly after 7 pm.

State bound Spartans claim sectionals in Freedom Tuesday

After winning the Freedom Sectional on Tuesday night, Luxemburg-Casco Wrestling will return to Madison for Division 2 State Championships.  In the semi-final, the Spartans rolled to a 59-18 victory by dominating the later matches of the night, winning six of the final seven weight classes by pins.  

In the final sectional match, Luxemburg-Casco beat Freedom 44-22 to earn their ticket to state.  The Spartans won nine of the 14 weight classes.  The final results from all the matches from both sectional matches are below.

 

Max Ronsman, who returned a few weeks ago from a leg injury suffered last September, shared his journey on getting back on the mat to complete in the 152-pound class.

 

NEC Wrestler of the Year Easton Worachek explains how his quick pin in the semi-finals (132-pound-class) led to a successful rematch against the Freedom wrestler in the sectional final for the 138-pound class.

Spartan boys lose "Battle of the LCs" at home

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys dropped a North Eastern Conference matchup against the Little Chute Mustangs 68-42 in Luxemburg.  

 

The Mustangs jumped to a 39-15 lead at halftime and never looked back in claiming the road win.  

 

Hunter Thiel lead a balanced Mustang attack with 12 points and Jack Rollin paced the Spartans with ten points.

Spartans girls fall to Trojans on the road

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball was punched early and often in its 77-26 loss to Green Bay Southwest on Monday.

 

Taliah DeGroot hit seven shots for 16 points in the first half as the Trojans stormed out to a 35-12 lead. She would finish with 24 points while teammates Margie Stevens (14 pts) and Eajah Danforth (12 pts) also reached double figures. All eight Trojans players scored at least four points in the victory.

 

The Spartans had to do their work from the free throw line, making more shots from the stripe (12) than the field (7). Alana Mrotek led the way for the Spartans with eight points and Alayna Deprez chipped in five points. Three others scored three points in the loss.

Spartans boys battle Little Chute at home

The Luxemburg-Casco boys' basketball team looks to snap a two-game losing streak on Tuesday when they welcome Little Chute to town.

 

In their last game, the Spartans found themselves down early and did not get much better in the second half of a 76-48 loss to Freedom Friday night. Chase Bukouricz led the Spartans with 18 points behind four made three-pointers. Lance Cherovsky added eight points, and Jack Rollin chipped in six points in the loss.

 

The Mustangs' only loss of the season occurred on January 24th in a 66-56 decision to Wrightstown. That includes a 75-49 win over Waupaca last Thursday. They are led by Hunter Thiel, who leads the Mustangs in scoring and rebounding (12 ppg, 6 rpg) and second in assists (2 apg).

 

Tip-off is 7 p.m. in Luxemburg.

Luxemburg-Casco wrestling takes on conference rivals at team sectionals

At least one NEC rival stands in the way of a second straight appearance at the WIAA State Team  Wrestling Tournament for Luxemburg-Casco.

 

The Spartans advanced to team sectionals after sending 11 of its 14 wrestlers out of the Denmark Regional on Saturday, scoring 294 points compared to 198 for second-place Denmark. Winning their brackets were Michael Bostwick (113), Blakelee Bastien (126), Easton Worachek (132), Caleb Delebreau (138), and Max Ronsman (145). In the semifinals, the Spartans will face Seymour who qualified 10 to this weekend's sectionals. Ryan Tomazevic (138) was their only champion. 

 

The winner of that dual will face the victor of Denmark and Freedom. The Spartans have beaten both teams this season in duals, topping the Irish 47-29 on January 20th and the Vikings 57-12 on December 15th.

 

The semifinal against Seymour will begin at 6 p.m. at Freedom High School. The sectional championship will take place 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first match. 

Spartans girls head to Green Bay to face Southwest

The Luxemburg-Casco Lady Spartans will venture outside of the NEC on Monday to face Green Bay Southwest on the road.

 

Nine made three-pointers by the Lady Spartans helped them get past Waupaca Friday night 60-42. Alana Mrotek led the Spartans with 14 points while Sami Treml contributed 10 points and Maggie Hanmann chipped in nine points. Those three players attributed to six of the nine shots made from behind the arc.

 

The Trojans have won seven of their last nine games, but they lost their last matchup to local power De Pere 53-41. They are led by Addison Pytleski, who averages 16 points and seven rebounds a game.

 

Tip is set for 7 p.m.

Spartans wrestlers capture Denmark Regional crown

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team will advance to team sectionals after sending 11 of its 14 wrestlers out of the Denmark Regional on Saturday.

Winning their brackets were Michael Bostwick (113), Blakelee Bastien (126), Easton Worachek (132), Caleb Delebreau (138), and Max Ronsman (145). Also advancing to next Saturday's sectional meet were Jake Jandrin (2nd, 106), Isaac Jerabek (2nd, 120), Ryan Routhieaux (3rd, 160), Sam Schutz (4th, 170), Trace Schoenbeck (2nd, 182), and Ezra Waege (4th, 195).

They advanced to Tuesday's team sectional at Freedom along with Denmark, Freedom, and Seymour.

Spartans girls barrage Comets with threes

Nine made three-pointers by the Luxemburg-Casco Lady Spartans helped them get past Waupaca Friday night 60-42.

 

Alana Mrotek led the Spartans with 14 points while Sami Treml contributed 10 points and Maggie Hanmann chipped in nine points. Those three players attributed to six of the nine shots made from behind the arc.

 

Hailey Bechard paced the Comets with 17 points and three made three-pointers of her own. 

Spartans boys not lucky against Irish

The Luxemburg-Casco boys' basketball team found themselves down early and did not get much better in the second half of a 76-48 loss to Freedom Friday night.

 

Chase Bukouricz led the Spartans with 18 points behind four made three-pointers. Lance Cherovsky added eight points and Jack Rollin chipped in six points in the loss.

 

The Irish had four players reach double-digits with Ashton Peterson making five three-pointers en route to a 23 point day. 

L-C girls welcome Waupaca

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team will stick around town Friday night to play the Waupaca Comets.

 

The Spartans overcame a five-point deficit at halftime to beat the Little Chute Mustangs Tuesday night 39-31. Brianna Bray led the Spartans with 12 points and Alana Mrotek added eight points with two three-pointers in the victory.

 

It has been a struggle for the Comets, who are 1-15 in NEC play and only have two wins in the 2022-2023 campaign. They nearly beat Clintonville earlier this week thanks to 17 point performance by Hailey Bechard and Rossalyn Wehmeyer, but the Comets lost to the Truckers 54-53.

 

Tip-off is schedule for 7 p.m.

Spartans boys look to steal luck from Irish

It is Friday night hoops in Freedom as Luxemburg-Casco makes the trip to visit the Irish. 

 

The Southern Door Eagles used a 16-0 run late in the first half to come away with a convincing 69-42 win over the Spartans Monday night in Luxemburg-Casco's last game. The Spartans were led by Lance Cherovsky, who scored 14 points while hitting four three three-pointers. Bukouricz chipped in seven more.

 

The Irish are in a similar spot with an 8-11 record and just ahead of the Spartans in the NEC standings at 7-7. Matt Eberhardt scored 12 points in a 59-44 loss to Valders earlier in the week as the Irish were outscored by 11 in the second half.

 

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

L-C's Worachek named NEC Wrestler of the Year

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team had another successful season thanks to its 11 All-North Eastern Conference wrestlers.

 

The North Eastern Conference announced their All-Conference Team for wrestling this week, based primarily on their performance in their NEC dual matches. The 11 wrestlers mean that the conference honored 78 percent of the 14-man starting roster. 

 

The top honor went to Easton Worachek, who went undefeated in his conference duals at 138 pounds and is currently chasing his second state championship.

Lady Spartans edge Little Chute

The Luxemburg-Casco overcame a five-point deficit at halftime to beat the Little Chute Mustangs Tuesday night 39-31 in North Eastern Conference girls’ basketball.  Trailing 20-15 at intermission, the Spartans outscored the Mustangs 31-24 in the second half to come away with the victory.  Brianna Bray led the Spartans with 12 points and Alana Mrotek added eight points with two three-pointers in the victory.  Riley Schultz finished with 17 points for the Mustangs.  Luxemburg-Casco (8-8, 10-11 overall) will now play Waupaca on Friday night at home.

Spartans girls host battle of LCs

It is a battle of LC supremacy on Tuesday as Luxemburg-Casco hosts Little Chute.

 

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans girls' basketball team were limited to eight made shots in a 67-20 loss to Freedom Friday night. Maggie Hanmann led the way with the Spartans with six points and Haley Paye chipped in with four points in the loss. 

 

The Mustangs will be fresh off a 60-47 loss against Clintonville on Monday night. Riley Schultz is primarily responsible for the limited success the team has seen in their 3-14 campaign, nearly averaging a double-double a game (10.6 ppg, 9.9 rpg).

 

Tip off is set for 7 p.m.

Eagles top Spartans on 104.1 WRLU

The Southern Door Eagles used a 16-0 run late in the first half to come away with a convincing 69-42 win over Luxemburg-Casco Monday night at home.  

 

The Spartans came out with a "diamond and one" defense that shadowed Eagle star Drew Daoust and contained him early on.  The Spartans managed to stay with the Eagles early as Chase Bukouricz and Lance Cherovsky scored five points in the first ten minutes to close within 15-14.  That's when the Eagles cranked up the defense and were able to force turnovers that turned into easy baskets.  The Eagles scored the final 16 before halftime to take a commanding 31-14 lead, as the Spartans could never make a run in the second half to get back into the game.

 

Daoust led the Eagles, scoring 16 of his game-high 28 points in the second half.  Jared Hawkey added 17 points, with 13 of those coming in the first half.

 

The Spartans were led by Lance Cherovsky, who scored 14 points while hitting four three three-pointers.  Bukouricz chipped in seven more.

 

Luxemburg-Casco (7-13 overall, 6-8)  now takes on Freedom Friday night in the NEC, while Southern Door 16-3 overall, 10-1)will travel to Sturgeon Bay on Thursday to face the Clippers in Packerland Conference action. 

 

The next Spartan broadcast on 104.1 WRLU will be Friday, February 17, as Luxemburg-Casco hosts the Waupaca Comets.  Pregame is set for 7:15 pm on 104.1 WRLU and tip-off.  Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard will have the play-by-play of the game which will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network.

Luxemburg-Casco and Southern Door boys battle on 104.1 WRLU Monday

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans renew an old rivalry when they travel to Southern Door to take on the Eagles in a non-conference boys’ basketball game Monday night.

 

The Spartans (6-8 in the NEC, 7-12 overall) are coming off a thrilling 55-54 overtime win over Denmark last Thursday, while Southern Door (10-1 in the Packerland, 15-3 overall) beat previously undefeated Crivitz 68-62 Saturday, behind 33 points from Drew Daoust who connected on six three-pointers.  The game will be the third one in four days for the Eagles. 

 

Chase Bukouricz leads the Spartans, averaging 11.6 points per game while Jack Rollin is averaging 10.8 points.   Daoust is averaging a remarkable 32.6 points per contest for the Eagles.  

 

The pregame is set for 7:15 pm on 104.1 WRLU and tip off at about 7:30 pm from Eagle Gym at Southern Door High School.  Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard will have the play-by-play of the game that will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network.

Spartans girls no match for Irish

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans girls' basketball team were limited to eight made shots in a 67-20 loss to Freedom Friday night.

 

The Irish took a 39-11 lead into the locker room at halftime thanks to a strong performance from Sadie jarmolowicz, who scored 17 points of her game-high 24 total) in the opening frame. Ryle Murphy would add 12 points as 12 different Irish scored in the game. 

 

Maggie Hanmann led the way with the Spartans with six points and Haley Paye chipped in with four points in the loss. 

L-C girls look to continue winning ways at Freedom

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team will face a tall task to end their week as they travel to Freedom Friday night.

 

The Spartans beat the Denmark Vikings 44-41 Tuesday night in a North Eastern Conference basketball nail-biter. They were led by freshman Brianna Bray who scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the second half.  Sammy Treml chipped in 11 more, with seven coming in the first half.

 

The Irish have not lost since December 3rd against Waupun and most recently beat Little Chute 75-9. The Spartans lost to the Irish earlier this season, 61-25, back in December.

 

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Spartans top Denmark in OT Thriller on 104.1 WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans hung on to defeat the Denmark Vikings in overtime in a North Eastern Conference thriller Thursday night.

 

The Spartans trailed 5-0 in the first two minutes of the game but responded by taking a 10-8 lead midway through the first half and then went on a 14-point run to go into halftime with a 24-12 lead.  Josh Parins spurred on the Spartans hitting two three-pointers in the half.

 

Denmark pressured Luxemburg-Casco heavily in the second half and closed the gap quickly, making for an instant classic finish.

 

Denmark went up by three points late in the game, before Chase Bukouricz hit a three-pointer to tie the score at 49-49 with ten seconds left.

 

 

 

The Vikings missed a tough shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

 

 In the overtime, the Spartans got five big points from Lance Cherovsky, including a three pointer.  Denmark had a chance to win the game in the final seconds, but Eli Kapinos missed a tough three-pointer from the top of the key with Bukouricz playing great defense on him.

 

Bukouricz and Cherovsky led the way for the Spartans with 13 points each and Jack Rollin added 11 more before fouling out in overtime. 

 

Denmark 11-8 overall and 9-5 in the NEC was playing without their leading rebounder and second highest scorer Cayden DeGrave due to an illness.

 

Luxemburg-Casco improved to 7-12 overall and 6-8 in the conference.  The Spartans will now travel to Southern Door to face the Packerland Conference-leading Eagles Monday night.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will host the Denmark Vikings in North Eastern Conference boys’ basketball Thursday night.

 

The Spartans (5-8, 6-12 overall) are coming off a 87-62 loss to Wrightstown on the road last Friday.  Denmark (9-4, 11-7 overall) beat Roncalli on Tuesday in a non-conference game at home and are currently tied for third in the NEC with Wrightstown.

 

Denmark is led by Jack Dewar with 10.2 points per game and Eli Kapinos with 9.3 points per contest.

 

Chase Bukouricz leads the Spartans with 11.6 points with Jack Rollin averaging 10.8 points. 

 

The pregame is set for 6:45 pm on 104.1 WRLU and tip off at about 7:00 pm from Luxemburg-Casco High School.  Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard will have the play-by-play of the game that will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network.
