Vikings take two from Spartans baseball

Denmark's offense was too much for Luxemburg-Casco as the Spartans dropped a pair Monday afternoon by scores of 5-1 and 9-2.

Owen Deprez knocked in the only run in game one on a fifth-inning double that drove in Ryan Routhieaux to make it 5-1. The big blow in the first game was a one-out double by Abe Kapinos that drove in Luke Miller and Jaycob Dittmer. Miller went the distance to keep the Spartans under wraps, striking out eight and allowing just three hits in the game.

In game two, a five-run fourth inning was more than enough for the Vikings, catapulted by run-scoring hits by Dittmer, Miller, and Kapinos. Deprez had a strong game offensively despite a rough night on the mound. He went 3-3 with an RBI to his credit. After Hayden Konkol had a perfect first inning, Owen DeGrand went the rest of the way for the Vikings, registering eight strikeouts while giving up two runs on six hits.

Spartans soccer shut out Peshtigo

Luxemburg-Casco's girls' soccer team captured their first win of the season in shutout fashion, beating Peshtigo 2-0 Monday night.

Haley Paye and Cadence Trimberger scored the goals for the Spartans, which doubled as the first scores of the season. Tabi Lemens collected eight saves in the Spartans' victory.

Spartans softball make short work of Marines

Luxemburg-Casco only needed three innings to put away their NEC rivals as they beat Marinette 15-0 Monday night in Luxemburg.

Leading hitters for the Spartans were Grace Kahr and Kylie Hanson, who combined to go a perfect 4-4 with five RBI.  Maddy Bouche went 2-3 and knocked in a run. That was plenty for winning pitcher Rebecca Kroll, who pitched the first two innings, surrendering just one hit.

The Spartans are back at it Tuesday when they play Little Chute at 4:30 p.m.

Spartans softball host Marinette

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team will look to defend their home diamond from a state tournament participant from a year ago when Marinette comes to town.

Neither team has been able to get a game in yet this season, with the Spartans missing out on four games and the Marines losing one game due to weather and field conditions. Monday will be the first time the two teams have played since the Marines beat the Spartans 5-1 in Luxemburg to advance in the WIAA Sectional field.

If that streak breaks today, the first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Spartans soccer play Monday against Bulldogs

Luxemburg-Casco looks to secure their first win of the season on Monday when they host Peshtigo at 6:30 p.m. on their home pitch. The Spartans have not played since they lost a pair at Notre Dame two weekends ago to Lakeland and Green Bay Southwest. The Bulldogs are playing their first game of the 2022 season after coming off a 2-2 campaign last year.

Spartans baseball tops Southern Door, hosts doubleheader against Denmark

Luxemburg-Casco and Southern Door had to wait out soggy winter-like weather and a Wisconsin Timber Rattlers doubleheader to finally get their first game in this season.

The Spartans were able to win the game 10-8 over the Eagles. No other stats were provided for this game.

The Spartans will make up their doubleheader against Denmark Monday afternoon pending field conditions. The Vikings are 2-1 on the season including a opening day victory against Kewaunee. The first game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

Spartans baseball open on the road against Vikings

The Luxemburg-Casco baseball team travels to Denmark for their first game of the season.

The Spartans were supposed to play the Vikings on Monday, but that game was postponed. The Vikings have been able to squeeze in three games already this year, winning twice. One of those games was a 6-1 victory over Kewaunee in the season opener.

Pending field conditions, the first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Spartans soccer struggles against Southwest

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team could not get their offense going for a second straight game Saturday morning as they lost to Green Bay Southwest 5-0 at Green Bay Notre Dame.

The Spartans gave up their second hat trick of the season with the Trojans' Aubrie Selsmeyer scoring four goals on the day. Tabi Lemens did what she could to keep the Spartans in it, making nine saves along the way.

Spartans soccer fall to Lakeland

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team saw a 3-0 halftime deficit get doubled up in the end with Lakeland winning the match 6-0 at Notre Dame Academy in Green Bay.

Leah Wolfe scored a trio of goals in the victory for the Thunderbirds.

The Spartans are back in action Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

L-C soccer begins season in Green Bay vs. Lakeland Union, Green Bay Southwest

The Luxemburg-Casco girls soccer team will start their season for real Friday and Saturday at Notre Dame Academy with a pair of games on consecutive nights.

The Spartans played a scrimmage against DePere earlier this week as they come off a 6-5 record last year as they reached the regional final where they lost to Freedom 3-0. The Irish would later get blown out by Plymouth in the sectional final.

Lakeland Union is coming off a 12-3-1 record last year and a regional championship. They fell to Ashland 4-0 in their last game of the season. They boast a stingy defense, shutting out opponents 10 times en route to their sectional appearance.

Green Bay Southwest already defeated Seymour this week 3-0. Ella Siegle registered a goal and an assist in the victory for the Trojans.

The Spartans are scheduled to play Lakeland at 7 p.m. Friday and Southwest at 9 a.m. Saturday.
