Lady Spartans edge Denmark on 104.1 WRLU

Before a big "Sting Cancer Night" home crowd, the Luxemburg-Casco Spartan girls hung on to beat the Denmark Vikings 44-41 Tuesday night in a North Eastern Conference basketball nail biter.

The Spartans come out strong taking an 8-0 lead early.  Denmark did not score until nearly seven minutes into the game on a Kiarrah Micolichek three-pointer.  Denmark and L-C then played a see-saw affair with the Vikings taking an 18-17 lead into halftime.

The second half was back-and-forth with the teams staying close.  Luxemburg-Casco played keep away in the final minute and seemingly clinched the game on a layup basket by freshman Alana Mrotek, with only five seconds to play, making the score 44-39.  Denmark, however, responded when Micolichek was fouled with 0.8 seconds left and hit two free throws to cut the lead to 44-41.  After a timeout, the Spartans had their inbound pass stolen by Miolichek, but her three-point shot was after the buzzer and came up short anyway.

Luxemburg-Casco (7-7, 9-10 overall) was led by freshman Brianna Bray who scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the second half.  Sammy Treml chipped in 11 more, with seven of those coming in the first half.

Kiarrah Micolichek led the Vikings with 15 points and Abbey Hummel added 11 more in the defeat.

The next Spartan broadcast will be on Thursday night as the boys host Denmark in Luxemburg. The pregame on 104.1 WRLU begins at 6:45 p.m. with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.  The game will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network with Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard on the call.

The Luxemburg-Casco boys' basketball team saw a three-point deficit get away from them Friday night, losing to Wrightstown by a final score of 87-62.

The score was 35-32 in favor of the Tigers before the Spartans were outscored 52-30 in the second half.

The Tigers were sparked by eight made three-pointers in the second half. Marshall Edwger led the way with 31 points. Keegan Spees added 14 points in the Tigers' win.

The Spartans countered with Jack Rollin's 13 points and 11 points from Chase Bukouricz and Caleb Blohowiak.

Tigers girls claw past Spartans

The Spartans found themselves in foul trouble with 19 fouls compared to 12 for the Tigers. Luckily, the Tigers did not take advantage as they went 10-23 from the line compared to the Spartans going 11 for 16.

Sami Treml led the way for the Spartans with 10 points, while Erin Cherovsky (7 pts) and Sami Wech (3 pts) each hit threes in the game.

Spartans boys take on Wrightstown in lone boys action

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans boys basketball team will be hitting the road Friday night as they take on the Wrightstown Tigers in Wrightstown.

Entering the game at 6-11 overall and 5-7 in the North Eastern Conference, the Spartans could use a momentum boosting win like a road victory over Wrightstown would. Luxemburg-Casco has split their last four NEC matchups, with wins over Oconto Falls and Marinette, and losses against Pulaski and Clintonville. It has been balanced scoring throughout most of the season for the Spartans, as a combination of Jack Rollin, Caleb Blohowiak, Chase Bukouricz, and Lance Cherovsky have been key this season.

The Tigers were able to knock off and upset former undefeated Little Chute on Tuesday 66-56. That win moved Wrightstown to 9-7 overall and 7-4 in NEC play, which is good for 4th in the standings. Keegan Spees has led the way for Wrightstown so far this season, averaging 15.4 points per game.

Tip from Wrightstown is set for 7:00 P.M.

L-C wrestlers take clash with Coleman

In a battle of No. 2's, Division 2's Luxemburg-Casco toppled its counterpart in Division 3 Coleman 40-21 on the road.

Starting at 106 pounds, the Spartans and Cougars split the first two match before Luxemburg-Casco captured the next matches. Two of the victories were pins, including defending state champion Max Ronsman picking up one of his first wins since returning from a horrific leg injury during the football season. The Cougars took three of the final five matches, but it was not enough to claim the victory on their home mat.

Lady Spartans battle Waupaca Friday

After their strong win over the Little Chute Mustangs Tuesday night, the Luxemburg Casco girls basketball team will look to get back to even on the season with a matchup against Waupaca Friday night.

The Spartans dominated both halves in the win over the Mustangs, winning the first half by 13, and the second half by 15. Equal scoring was the story of the win for L-C, as they had six players score six points, and Haley Paye was the leading scorer with 7. The Spartans won both matchups against Waupaca last season by a combined total of 57. Luxemburg Casco will look to keep that trend alive Friday night.

The Comets of Waupaca are 1-10 overall and 1-6 in the NEC with a win over Oconto Falls. Center Macie Studzinski has led the Comets so far this season, who average 31.1 points per game. Studzinski has 11.4 points per game leading into the matchup against the Spartans. Waupaca started their season 0-8 before their lone win on December 15th, before falling in their last two games, and hope to change the tides on Friday.

Tip from Waupaca is slated for 7:00 P.M.

Spartans boys gear up to take on Little Chute

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans boys basketball team is hoping to snap its 4 game losing streak when they travel to Little Chute to take on the Mustangs.

The Spartans currently sit at 4-6 overall and 3-3 in NEC play. Every team that Luxemburg-Casco has lost to in their 4 game losing streak are either above .500 overall, or are currently sitting above them in the North Eastern Conference standings. Chase Bukouricz and Jack Rollin are still both the leading scorers for the Spartans this season, as both are near or over the 10 point mark.

The Mustangs have not lost a game yet this season and have recently been rolling over their opponents. Little Chute can beat teams many ways, in high scoring fashion where they beat Waupaca 69-50, or in a defensive battle as they beat Seymour 42-29. They are a balanced scoring team, as they have two players averaging exactly 13.8 points per game in Hunter Thiel and Callum Maronek.

Tip from Little Chute is set for 7:00 P.M.

Lady Spartans roll over Little Chute

In the battle of the LCs in the North Eastern Conference, the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans dominated the Little Chute Mustangs at home 53-25.

Spartans girls resume conference play at Little Chute

After a brief foray in non-conference play, the Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team hit the road Tuesday to face NEC rival Little Chute.

The Spartans lost its two non-conference games over break, falling to Pulaski at home 42-25 and at Ashwaubenon 74-33. In both games, the Spartans failed to have at least one player reach double figures in scoring.

The Mustangs have struggled this season, starting the year off 2-5 on the year and 1-5 in NEC action. The lone conference win came just before winter break when Riley Schultz scored 13 points in a 42-34 win over 1-9 Waupaca.
