Luxemburg-Casco softball wins opener

Luxemburg-Casco Spartans softball team defeated Oconto Falls 8-0 in a North Eastern Conference opener for both teams.

Winning pitcher Rebecca Kroll threw a complete game, one-hit shutout striking out six and walking one.

L-C scored two runs in the first inning on Lauren Adam's RBI groundout and Brianna Gaedtke's RBI single.

Both pitchers controlled the game from there until LC scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. McKenzie Hanson's two-RBI double keyed the outburst.

Kroll retired Oconto Falls in order in the seventh to end the game. J. Arndt had the Panther's lone hit.

Spartans baseball open season in Little Chute

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans baseball team will hit the diamond for the first time this season Tuesday with a game at Little Chute.

The Spartans finished the 2019 season with a 5-12 record, ending in a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to Denmark.

Tuesday's game is the first of two games against the Mustangs, with Little Chute returning to the area on Friday. On Thursday, the Spartans will travel to Green Bay to face Notre Dame Academy.

Spartans hit the track on the road

The Luxemburg-Casco track team will have their first meet in over a year Tuesday when they travel to Denmark.

One of the top possible returnees to this year's team is Samantha Kahr, who as a freshman took sixth in the 200 meter with a time of just under 29 seconds. She also appeared on the 4 x 100M Relay and 4 X 200M relay teams that took sixth place.

Waupaca will be the other team competing in the tri-meet which will begin at 4 p.m.

Luxemburg-Casco fishing team prepares for second season

One of the few local high school teams to compete in the spring and summer is ready for another season on the water.

The Luxemburg-Casco Fishing Team is preparing for another year after its inaugural year saw two anglers, Charlie Simonar and Ethan Jerabek finish in fifth place in the Wisconsin High School Bass Fishing Championships in Winneconne. At least 15 kids are coming back to the team this year and coach Brian Eisch says right now they are doing meetings to prepare until they can get out on the water.

Eisch says finding volunteer boaters is tough, but he added that it is rewarding to see the kids succeed.

The Luxemburg-Casco Fishing Team will compete at local lakes before the state championships are held on the Mississippi River off the shores of LaCrosse later this year. Eisch thanks the team's 17 sponsors for helping support the team, which has to travel and stay in hotels for nearly all of its tournaments.
