Spartans soccer capture seesaw win against Seymour

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans soccer team found themselves on the right side of a see-saw battle Friday night, beating Seymour 2-1.

 

Johan Amador scored in the first half to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead they would carry into the second half. After the Thunder tied it up, Zak Patek put the Spartans back in front with a goal in the 68th minute, a tally that would prove to be the game-winner.

 

The Spartans are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Marinette for a 4 p.m. match.

Spartans soccer host Seymour under the lights

With the football team playing on Thursday, the Luxemburg-Casco soccer team will have the homecoming lights all to itself Friday night when they host Seymour.

 

The Spartans had their game against the Mustangs canceled earlier in the week due to a lack of players for the Mustangs. Before that, the Spartans gave up two late goals to fall to Roncalli 2-1 last Saturday. Johan Amador scored the only goal for the Spartans in the loss.

 

The Thunder have posted only two wins in nine tries during the month of September. In those games, they have been limited to one or fewer goals seven times, including five shutouts.

 

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Spartans earn homecoming shutout over Vikings

The Luxemburg-Casco football team will head into the rest of their homecoming festivities on a high note as they beat Denmark 42-0 in a rare Thursday night contest.

 

No stats were available as of 6:15 a.m. 

 

The homecoming game doubled as a regular season home finale for the Spartans, which will play at Fox Valley Lutheran and at Wrightstown to close out the season.

L-C cross country teams meet in the middle at Pioneer Invite

The Luxemburg-Casco boys finished in third and the girls in fourth at the Pioneer Cross Country Invite hosted by Sevastopol at Cherry Hills Golf Course in Sturgeon Bay on Thursday.

 

Kyan Lynts led the way for the boys with a time of 18:17 to lead the boys' team with a third-place finish. Claire DuChateau finished in fifth place overall with a 5K time of 20:38 to lead the Spartans girls.

Luxemburg-Casco battles Denmark in homecoming football tilt

Homecoming festivities will be in the air on Thursday night when Luxemburg-Casco plays NEC rival Denmark.

 

Last week, the Spartans overcame a 14-point deficit to beat the Freedom Irish 24-14 to stay perfect in the North Eastern Conference play. Down 14-0, the Spartans started a string of 24 unanswered points with a touchdown before halftime on a 14-yard touchdown run by quarterback Max Ronsman with 2:51 left in the second quarter. 

 

The Vikings have stumbled to a 1-5 start, including losing their last four games. A fourth-quarter touchdown run by Steven Kielpikowski kept the Vikings from being shut out at home, eventually losing the game 41-7 to Wrightstown.

 

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Luxemburg-Casco qualifies for WIAA Golf Sectional

Some sunshine broke through for the Luxemburg-Casco golf team during Wednesday's WIAA Regional Tournament at Northbrook Country Club as they qualified as a team for next week's sectional round.

 

The Spartans shot a 460 on a dreary day in Luxemburg, finishing 94 strokes behind regional champion Notre Dame Academy and 23 strokes behind second-place Fox Valley Lutheran. Morgan DeJardin shot a team-best 106 with Bowie Bredael right behind her with a 108. The scores put DeJardin and Bredael in the top 10 overall in the regional. Katie Ledvina (122), Reese Bandow (124), and Marissa Annoye (141) will also play in next week's sectional meet. Individual qualifiers are Trinity Flynn of NEW Lutheran, Katelyn Shedlosky of Denmark, and Ella Swanson of Wrightstown.

 

The Notre Dame Sectional at Thornberry Creek is set for next Tuesday, October 3rd.

Spartan volleyball continues roll with road sweep of Freedom

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans stayed perfect in the North Eastern Conference with a three-game sweep of the Freedom Irish on the road (25-20, 25-14, 25-16).  Alayna Deprez led the Spartans with 37 assists and 15 digs.  Aubrey Frey added 10 kills and 10 digs, while Jacinda Bennett had 9 kills and 3 blocks.  Miranda Schmidt managed 8 kills and Payton Kaminski provided a strong floor game with 21 digs and 3 aces.

 

Luxemburg-Casco improved to 22-7 overall and are on top of the NEC with a 6-0 record.

Spartans golf teams finish in fourth and fifth ahead of regional

The Luxemburg-Casco golf teams hosted three other teams Monday afternoon in the scamble-style Spartan Invitational at Northbrook Country Club. 

 

Seymour won the meet with a score of 33, followed closely by Shawano with a 34. The battle for third was just as close as Bonduel scored a 38, one stroke better than Luxemburg-Casco 1, which shot a 39. Luxemburg-Casco 2 came in fifth place with a score of 48.

 

It was a good tune-up for Wednesday's WIAA Regional hosted by Luxemburg-Casco at Northbrook Country Club. The Spartans will welcome Denmark, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation/Providence Academy, Notre Dame, and Wrightstown. The top teams and golfers will qualify for the sectional at Thornberry Creek. 

Spartans volleyball continue challenging stretch at Freedom

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team continues through the gauntlet that is the North Eastern Conference on Tuesday with a road match at Freedom.

 

The Spartans are a perfect 5-0 in the NEC, but not without some close calls along the way. They went the distance against Oconto Falls last Tuesday before winning the match 3-2 and they also beat Wrightstown 3-1.

 

The Irish are 4-1 in the NEC, winning their last two matches against Wrightstown (3-0) and Marinette (3-0). 

 

Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.

Spartans soccer visits Little Chute

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team will head out onto the road on Tuesday to battle NEC rival Little Chute.

 

In their last match, the Spartans came up empty on their trip to Manitowoc on Saturday morning, losing to Roncalli 2-1. Johan Amador tallied the lone goal for the Spartans in the match. 

 

The Mustangs are winless in six tries this season, never scoring more than one goal in any of their matches. They lost to Berlin 2-1 their last time out. 

 

The kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

L-C golf tunes up with scramble

The first WIAA Tournament event of the fall starts with girls golf on Wednesday, but that is not stopping the Luxemburg-Casco golf team from hitting Northbrook Golf Course on Monday for a quick round.

 

The Spartans will host Bonduel, Seymour, and Shawano Community for a scramble-style meet beginning at 3 p.m.

 

Last week, the Spartans moved up a spot in the NEC standings after shooting a 418, which was good for third place on the day, and bumped them up from seventh to sixth place in the conference standings. Girls' golf coach Tyler Thrune said Bredael was named an All-NEC Honorable Mention selection after leading her team several times this season.

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team came up empty on their trip to Manitowoc on Saturday morning, losing to Roncalli 2-1.

The Spartans return to action on Tuesday in the NEC when they play Little Chute at 4:30 p.m.

Spartans rally to spoil Freedom's homecoming

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans overcame a 14 point deficit to beat the Freedom Irish 24-14 to stay perfect in the North Eastern Conference play.

 

After a scoreless first quarter, the Irish scored on two Drew Kortz touchdown passes in the second quarter to take a 14-0 lead in front of a frenzied homecoming crowd.

The Spartans would respond with a touchdown before halftime on a 14-yard touchdown run by quarterback Max Ronsman to make it 14-7 with 2:51 left in the second quarter.

Taking the opening kick in the second half, the Spartans drove downfield and settled for a 28-yard field goal by Trace Shoenebeck to cut the lead to 14-10 for Freedom with 7:10 left in the third quarter.  The Spartans would then take the lead for the first time on a nine-yard touchdown scramble by Ronsman with 35 seconds left in the third quarter, making the score 17-14.

 

The Spartans struck quickly after a turnover on a 47-yard strike from Ronsman to Cameron Dorner making it 24-14 with 11:08 to go in the fourth quarter.

 

Freedom would mount a couple of long drives but were eventually turned away by the Spartan defense and two key penalties that called back two big plays by the Irish late in the game.

Schoenebeck sealed the victory for Luxemburg-Casco with an interception with 1:55 left in the fourth quarter as the Spartans remain undefeated in the conference.  

 

Luxemburg-Casco (4-0, 5-1 overall) will now play Denmark next Thursday in their homecoming game.

Spartans soccer celebrate breakfast with the Jets

The  Luxemburg-Casco soccer team will wake up early for its Saturday morning contest against Roncalli on Saturday.

 

The Spartans defeated the Gibraltar/Sevastopol United 2-0 in a non-conference soccer matchup on Tuesday evening in Luxemburg. After a scoreless first half, the Spartans broke through with a goal at the 56-minute mark by senior Johan Amador.  Luxemburg-Casco would put the game away with a late goal on a corner kick at the 75-minute mark by Ethan Vandenhouten.  Goalie Quentin Massart did not allow a goal and kept the United at bay with eight saves.

 

The Jets are 5-6-0 on the season, seeing a three-match winning streak disappear earlier this week with a 2-0 loss to Kiel.

 

Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.

Spartans cross country finish in the top half of loaded Bremser field

The Luxemburg-Casco cross country teams held their own against some of the top large schools in the region at Thursday's Bremser Invitational.

 

For the girls, Claire DuChateau once again paced the Spartans with a 5K time of 20:34, which was good for a top-10 finish.

 

The boys were led by Derek Christoph, who set a personal record 18:27 to post a top-40 time among a field that boast several teams that will be major players in next month's state meet.

Luxemburg-Casco volleyball continues winning ways vs. Wrightstown

The road didn't phase the Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team on Thursday night, beating Wrightstown 3-1(25-8, 22-25, 25-21, 25-12).

 

The Spartans got off to a fast start before being edged out in the second set. They would go on to be on the other side of the equation in the third set before doubling up the Tigers in the fourth set.

 

Alayna Deprez led the way with 39 assists and 19 digs on the night with Payton Kaminski adding 25 digs on the night. Jillian Jorgensen, Isabel Baudhuin, and Jacinda Bennett all had 11 kills in the Spartans' victory.

 

Head coach Jeff Frey complimented the Tigers' play after the match for battling all night long. "It’s been a heck of a week for our team, we are happy to get the win.  I am extremely proud of our girls, battling through adversity to gut out this win."

Spartans battle Freedom on 104.1 WRLU Friday

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will look to stay perfect in the North Eastern Conference on Friday night as they travel to Freedom to take on the Irish on 104.1 WRLU.

 

Luxemburg-Casco (3-0, 4-1 overall) is coming off a 35-14 win over Little Chute last week in the battle of the LCs.  Freedom (0-3, 2-3 overall) is still looking for their first conference win after losing to Wrightstown on the road 15-14.

 

Quarterback Max Ronsman leads the Spartans with 599 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns while tossing six touchdowns as well.

 

The Irish are led by quarterback Drew Kortz who has thrown for 954 yards and 11 touchdowns while only throwing two interceptions. 

 

The pregame is set for 6:45 pm on 104.1 WRLU with kick-off set for 7 p.m. from Freedom.  The game will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network with Paul Schmitt and Henry Annen on the call.

Bredael named All-NEC Honorable Mention

The Luxemburg-Casco golf team was able to move up a spot in the NEC standings after playing its final conference meet of the year on Wednesday.

 

The team shot a 418, which was good for third place on the day, and bumped them up from seventh place to sixth place in the conference standings. Fox Valley Lutheran won the meet with a score of 399 and scored 32 points on the season to win the NEC crown. 

 

Leading the way individually on the day was Marissa Annoye who shot a 102. Bowie Bredael and Reese Bandow were just two shots behind their teammate Annoye with twin scores of 104. Kate Ledvina shot a 108 and Morgan DeJardin scored a 113 to round out the Spartans' roster. Kennedy Polomis of Marinette won the meet with a score of 90.

 

According to girls' golf coach Tyler Thrune, Bredael was named an All-NEC Honorable Mention selection after leading her team several times this season.

Spartans volleyball team up with Wrightstown to dig pink

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team will continue its run through the NEC on Thursday with a match for a cause at Wrightstown.

 

The Spartans returned from being down two sets to none Tuesday night to defeat the Oconto Falls Panthers 3-2 in Luxemburg. The Spartans dropped the first two sets 22-25 and 19-25, before winning the last three, 25-20, 25-11, and 15-13. Alayna Deprez led the Spartans with a great floor game with 41 assists and eight digs.  Aubrey Frey had 21 kills, 17 digs, and three aces, while Ella Vander Velden added 12 kills, four blocks, and three aces.

 

The Tigers have lost two of their last three matches, all in NEC play. They lost in their last outing, dropping three straight sets to Freedom.

 

Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.

 

Cross country teams converge on Mishicot Thursday

All seven area cross country teams will be in one place on Thursday as they travel to Mishicot for the Mishicot Bremser Invite.

 

Algoma, Kewaunee, Luxemburg-Casco, Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, Sevastopol, and Gibraltar will join Bay Port, Brillion, Cedar Grove-Belgium, Chilton, Coleman, De Pere, Denmark, Fox Valley Lutheran, Green Bay Southwest, Hilbert, Howards Grove, Kiel, Manitowoc Lutheran, Mishicot, NEWCHAA (Northeast Wisconsin Christian Homeschoolers Athletic Associaton), New Holstein, Notre Dame Academy, Oconto, Oconto Falls, Oneida Nation, Providence Academy (Green Bay), Random Lake, Reedsville, Roncalli, Seymour, Sheboygan Christian, Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan Lutheran, St. Ignatius / Chesterton Academy, Two Rivers, West De Pere, and Wrightstown for the invitational. 

 

Luxemburg-Casco's boys and girls teams finished right smack in the middle of the large school division while the Kewaunee boys and Sevastopol girls were the top local schools in the small school division.

 

The first race is expected to begin at 4:15 p.m.

Spartans rally to beat Panthers in five sets

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans came back from being down two sets to none Tuesday night to defeat the Oconto Falls Panthers 3-2 in Luxemburg. 

 

The Spartans dropped the first two sets 22-25 and 19-25, before winning the last three, 25-20, 25-11, and 15-13.

 

Alayna Deprez led the Spartans with a great floor game with 41 assists and eight digs.  Aubrey Frey had 21 kills, 17 digs, and three aces, while Ella Vander Velden added 12 kills, four blocks, and three aces.

 

Other Spartans who contributed included Miranda Schmidt with nine kills, Brooke Vande Hei with 18 digs and Payton Kaminski with 18 digs and five aces.

 

Luxemburg-Casco (20-7, 4-0 in NEC) will now play at Wrightstown on Thursday.

Spartans shut out Gibraltar/Sevastopol

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans defeated the Gibraltar/Sevastopol United 2-0 iedn non-conference soccer on Tuesday evening in Luxemburg.

 

After a scoreless first half, the Spartans broke through with a goal at the 56-minute mark by senior Johan Amador.  Luxemburg-Casco would put the game away with a late goal on a corner kick at the 75-minute mark by Ethan Vandenhouten.  Goalie Quentin Massart did not allow a goal and kept the United at bay with eight saves.

Luxemburg-Casco volleyball returns to NEC action against Oconto Falls

The Luxemburg-Casco will only have to worry about Oconto Falls on Tuesday night after wrapping up a busy tournament in Milwaukee over the weekend.

 

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team finished in the middle of the pack of the Charger Challenge in Milwaukee over the weekend, but it came away with some valuable experience for the season's stretch run. The team came in 17th place out of 32 teams, facing the bulk of their problems in pool play. The Spartans beat Wisconsin Lutheran 25-14, 25-21 before losing to Sauk Prairie 17-25, 25-12, 13-15 and Arrowhead 17-25, 25-20, 10-15. They would rebound in the bronze bracket, beating Germantown 25-16, 25-12 and Waukesha West 19-25, 25-20, 15-11. 

 

The Panthers are riding a six-match winning streak into the Luxemburg-Casco gym Tuesday night, a string of victories that includes a perfect 4-0 mark at the Pulaski Invite where they only dropped one set to Kewaskum in their wins against the Indians, NEW Lutheran, Kiel, and West De Pere.

 

The opening serve is at 7 p.m.

L-C soccer stays at home to face Gibraltar/Sevastopol

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team returns home for a non-conference fixture against Gibraltar/Sevastopol on Tuesday night.

 

The Spartans left their quadrangular without a win as they lost their matches to Port Washington 1-0 and Platteville/Lancaster 3-2. Quentin Massart made three saves in each match. The Spartans were held scoreless on the weekend until Johan Amador found the back of the net in the 54th minute to make the game 2-1 at the time. Reese Barbiaux added a goal in the 72nd minute but it wasn't enough to steal a victory.

 

The Gibraltar/Sevastopol soccer team left without a win but did sneak out of the Wrightstown tournament with a tie. The United lost to Marinette 1-0 to start their day but rebounded to tie Altoona/Fall Creek in its second match. 

 

The opening touch is at 6:30 p.m. at the Luxemburg-Casco Sports Complex.

Spartans golf takes 20th at Notre Dame Academy Invite

The Luxemburg-Casco golf team took 20th place in a crowded field at the Oneida Riding and Golf Club in Green Bay on Monday for the Notre Dame Academy Invite.

 

The team shot a 462 on the day to earn their place on the leaderboard with junior Morgan DeJardin leading the way with a 110. Junior Kate Ledvina and freshman Reese Bandow scored a 112, sophomore Ashley Fameree registered a 128, and junior Marissa Annoye capped it off with a 133. 

Luxemburg-Casco golf prepares for Notre Dame Invitational

The Luxemburg-Casco golf team kicks off their week against more than a dozen teams at the Oneida Riding and Golf Club in Green Bay on Monday.

 

Appleton East, Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, De Pere, Denmark, Fond du Lac, Freedom, Green Bay Preble, Hortonville, Kaukauna, Kimberly, Marinette, Middleton, Notre Dame Academy, Oshkosh North, Oshkosh West, Pulaski, Seymour, Shawano Community, Sheboygan North, Verona Area, and Waunakee are all scheduled to compete in the Notre Dame Academy-hosted event in Green Bay.

 

The Spartans are coming off a third-place finish in their final NEC regular season meet on September 14th. Bowie Bredael boasted the team's best score with 51 strokes. Kate Ledvina (55) and Morgan Dejardin (56) also broke 60 strokes at River Island Golf Course in Oconto Falls. The Panthers' Taylor Miller had the best score with a 46 on nine holes.

 

Monday's meet begins at 9 a.m. 

Spartans spikers charged up after Challenge

"It was a good weekend, this tournament always has some of the best teams in the state and I loved the fight and resiliency our team showed this weekend," said head coach Jeff Frey. "We got tested in all of our matches and we got better which is why you come to a tournament like this." 

Spartans football return home to face Mustangs

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans return home Friday night to welcome NEC rivals Little Chute.

 

The Spartans ran wild on Shawano last week in their 56-14 romp. The team racked up 450 yards rushing behind a 218-yard, four-touchdown performance from Max Ronsman and a two-score, 162-yard outing from Cameron Dorner.

 

The Mustangs led by 27 at halftime and cruised to a 36-11 win over Waupaca last week. Charlie Vanden Burgt threw for 374 yards and rushed for another 60-plus as he accounted for all five touchdowns in the win.

 

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Luxemburg-Casco volleyball heads to Milwaukee for weekend tournament

Luxemburg-Casco hits the tournament circuit again on Friday after 3-0 sweep of Clintonville earlier in the week.

 

The Spartans will face the likes of Appleton North, Arrowhead, Brookfield Central, Burlington Area School District, Catholic Memorial, Cedarburg, Chippewa Falls High School, Divine Savior Holy Angels, Franklin, Germantown, Hartford Union High School, Kettle Moraine, Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Kimberly, Manitowoc Lincoln, McFarland, Menomonee Falls, Mukwonago, Muskego, Notre Dame Academy, Oconomowoc, Pewaukee, River Falls School District, Sauk Prairie, Slinger, Sussex Hamilton, Waukesha West, Waunakee, West Bend West, Westosha Central High School, Wisconsin Lutheran when action begins at the MIlwaukee Sting Center at 5 p.m. on Friday and resumes on Saturday at 8 a.m.

Luxemburg-Casco soccer comes up empty against Freedom

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team could not generate the offense needed to get past one of their chief rivals on Thursday, falling to Freedom 1-0.

 

The Irish scored their lone tally in the first half and were able to hold off the Spartans the rest of the way. It marks the third time in four games the opposing team has been able to post a clean sheet against the Spartans.

Spartans girls cross country finish tied for Valders Invite title

The Luxemburg-Casco girls cross country team finished with 70 points and tied for first place with Plymouth in Thursday's Valders Invitational.

 

Claire DuChateau came in 15 seconds behind Sturgeon Bay's Julia Kurek to come in second place overall with a time of 21:01.

 

Kyan Lynts paced the boys' squad with a time of 18:28 and a fifth-place finish to lead the Spartans to a third-place finish.

L-C golf head to Oconto Falls for triangular meet

Luxemburg-Casco will travel to Oconto Falls' River Island Golf Course to play against Freedom and Oconto Falls in a triangular that begins at 1 p.m.

 

In their last meet, the Spartans finished 5th out of 9 teams at the Oconto Falls Panthers Golf Invitational on Tuesday. Individual highlights include Bowie Bredael placing 8th out of 42 golfers with a personal best score over 18 holes of 100. She also had a personal best over 9 holes on the front 9 with a 48. Morgan DeJardin also shot her personal best over 18 holes with a 111 including a new personal best over 9 holes with a 55 on the front 9. Reese Bandow carded a 114 with a new personal best on the front 9 with a 53. Ashley Fameree scored a 123 and Marissa Annoye shot a 125.

L-C place three in Top-10 at cross country meet

The Winagamie Golf Course gave way to runners for the second time in five days and the Luxemburg-Casco cross-country team took full advantage of the opportunity.

 

In the boys race, Kyan Lynts was the Spartans' top finisher with a time of 17:49 on the 5K course as the team took third with 70 points behind Pulaski (35) and Ashwaubenon (41). 

 

 

The girls' team almost won the meet, coming in second place with 44 points and just eight points behind champion St. Mary Catholic. Claire DuChateau continued her super freshman campaign with a first place finish and a 20:15 5K time.

 

Spartans soccer lose close one to Freedom

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans could not find the back of the net on Tuesday and lost a 1-0 defensive struggle with the Freedom Irish at home in NEC soccer action.

 

The Spartans (2-1, 3-3 overall) were shut out for the third consecutive game and will now try to rebound next Tuesday against Denmark when they play the Vikings at home.

Spartans volleyball sweeps Clintonville

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans easily defeated the Clintonville Truckers on Tuesday by sweeping all three games at home in North Eastern Conference volleyball.

Winning 25-10, 25-8, and 25-11, the Spartans collected 21 aces in the sweep.  Alayna Deprez had 18 assists and six digs, while Aubrey Frey collected nine kills, nine digs and seven aces.  Miranda Schmidt contributed seven kills and Brokke VandeHei had seven digs and four aces, while Payton Kaminski chipped in five aces.

The Spartans are 3-0 in the NEC and have a 16-5 overall record.

L-C soccer battles Freedom at home

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team looks to bounce back from their last match when they return to the Luxemburg-Casco Sports Complex to face Freedom.

 

The Luxemburg-Casco suffered a tough loss on Thursday night at home, falling to Sheboygan South 4-0. It was the second time in a week the Spartans lost 4-0 and prevented them from building on the positive momentum of a 3-1 victory against Wrightstown ahead of their home match against Freedom on September 12th. 

 

The Irish saw a three-match winning streak snapped with a 6-3 loss to Kewaskum their last time out. They are 4-1-1 on the season.

 

First touch is set for 6:30 p.m.

Spartans volleyball heads back to conference play

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team hits their home court for the first time this season with an NEC matchup against Clintonville.

 

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team was pushed to the limit several times in their tournament run at Kettle Moraine High School over the weekend. The team went 4-2 over the weekend with five of their six matches going a full three sets. In tournament play, matches max out at three sets compared to the usual five a typical dual does. Payton Kaminski showed off her defensive prowess with 88 digs and Alayna Deprez added 42 digs, 84 assists, and 10 aces. Aubrey Frey posted 61 Kills and 36 digs while Ella Vender Velden posted 21 kills and 20 blocks.

 

The Truckers split their first two matches of the campaign, but they have dropped their last six matches, capturing just two of a possible 17 sets along the way.

 

The first serve is set for 7 p.m. 

L-C cross country visits Winagamie Golf Course

Unlike many other local teams recently, the Luxemburg-Casco cross-country team will see Winagamie Golf Course during the day on Tuesday for its race on Tuesday.

 

Luxemburg-Casco will take on Ashwaubenon, Hilbert, Mary Catholic, Mishicot, Pulaski, and Wrightstown at Winagamie Golf Course in Neenah for its set of races beginning at 4:30 p.m.

 

The Luxemburg-Casco cross-country team saw plenty of strong performances at Saturday's Roncalli Invitational hosted at Manitowoc's Lincoln Park. The boys scored 66 points to take third place overall, finishing behind Two Rivers and Pulaski respectively. Leading the way for the Spartans was Kyan Lynts, who ran a 5K time of 18:09. For the girls, it was Claire DuChateau running a time of 20:32 to lead the Spartans to a second-place team finish behind Valders by two points.

The Luxemburg-Casco golf team begins their week on the course when they battle a host of teams beginning at 10 a.m.

 

Bonduel, Denmark, Marinette, Oconto Falls, Pulaski, Seymour, Shawano Community, and West De Pere will also tee off at River Island Golf Course. 

 

The Spartans won their last dual against Wrightstown 222-249. Bowie Bredael led the way for the Spartans with a score of 52 with Ashley Fameree (53) and Morgan DeJardin (57) also breaking 60 strokes on the nine-hole course. Wrightstown's Ella Swanson shot a meet best 49 on the day.

Head coach Jeff Frey was proud of how his team battled their way to a 15-5 season record and how they reacted to adversity during the tournament. "It was a long two days, 5 of our 6 matches went to 3 sets.  I am proud of the fight our girls showed, they really battled and found a way to win in some tight, tough battles.  We faced some adversity with some injuries, and we need to continue to work and grow in how we handled adversity," Frey said.  

 

 

Luxemburg-Casco cross country ends week with Manitowoc meet

The Luxemburg-Casco cross country will end their week-long sabbatical from racing with an invitational in Manitowoc.

 

The Spartans last raced last Thursday at the De Pere Invitational hosted on the campus of UW-Green Bay. Kyan Lynts paced the boys with an 18:19 on the 5K course, taking 46th place overall. Claire DuChateau ran a personal record time of 21:10 to lead the Spartans in the girls' race, finishing in 21st place.

 

Algoma, Crivitz, Gibraltar, Hilbert, Howards Grove, Kewaunee High School, Manitowoc Lutheran, Mishicot, NEWCHAA (Northeast Wisconsin Christian Homeschoolers Athletic Associaton), Pulaski, Roncalli, Sevastopol, Southern Door, St. Mary's Springs Academy, Stockbridge, Two Rivers, and Valders are all scheduled to run at Lincoln Park in Manitowoc beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Luxemburg-Casco football travels to Shawano community

The Luxemburg-Casco football team goes for their second straight win and their third overall on Friday night when they head to Shawano Community.

 

The Spartans' Max Ronsman, Cameron Dorner, and Samuel Schutz each had two total touchdowns in a 48-0 rout of New London last week. It was a bounceback game for the Spartans after they lost to Kewaunee in their second game of the season. 

 

The Hawks are off to a rough start in 2023, going 0-3 and losing by at least three touchdowns in every contest.  

 

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Spartans soccer pecked at by Redwings

The Luxemburg-Casco suffered a tough loss on Thursday night at home, falling to Sheboygan South 4-0.

 

It was the second time in a week the Spartans lost 4-0 and prevented them from building on the positive momentum of a 3-1 victory against Wrightstown ahead of their home match against Freedom on September 12th.

Spartans volleyball sweeps Marines, heads to Kettle Moraine Tournament

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team easily toppled the Marinette Marines on the road Thursday night 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-9).

 

Of their 75 points scored, 10 came via service aces delivered by Payton Kaminski (5), Alayna Deprez (3), and Aubrey Frey (2). Frey (13) and Isabel Baudhuin (10) led the Spartans in the kill department while Deprez (12) and Kaminski (11) showed their defensive prowess with double-digit digs. Deprez added 29 assists.

 

Head coach Jeff Frey was pleased with team's performance on the road. " I thought we had a balanced attack, our setters moved the ball around well," Frey said post-match.  "I thought we were pretty good on the service line as well tonight."

 

The team now heads to Wales to play in a tournament hosted by Kettle Moraine and Brookfield Central high schools. Appleton East, Barneveld, Brookfield Central, Cedarburg, Dominican, Eau Claire Memorial High School, Fox Valley Lutheran, Holmen, Homestead, Hortonville, Kettle Moraine, Kewaunee High School, Marshall, Muskego, Neenah, Newman Catholic, Nicolet, Oak Creek, Onalaska, Racine Case, Racine Lutheran, Sturgeon Bay, Sun Prairie West, The Prairie, Wauwatosa East, and Westosha Central are also scheduled to compete when the tournament begins at 4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday.

L-C, Marinette tangle on volleyball court

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team takes on a familiar foe on Thursday when they travel to Marinette for an NEC match.

 

In last weekend's Tom Larsen Triton Invite, the Spartans ran the table in pool play, defeating West DePere 2-0, DePere 2-0, and Slinger 2-0. In the semifinals, they topped host Notre Dame 2-1 before losing to NEC foe Xavier 2-0 in the title game. The early season matches have shown the strength of the NEC, which represents the only two blemishes on the Spartans' resume out of 13 matches.

 

The Marines broke their season-opening five-match losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Menominee in the Peshtigo Triangular.

 

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

 

Spartans soccer goes non-conference with match on Thursday

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team will take their winning ways to their home pitch Thursday night as they host Sheboygan South at 6:30 p.m.

 

Zak Patek registered a brace with two goals and Johan Amador added another in the Spartans' 3-1 victory over Wrightstown on Tuesday. That was their third win in their last four tries.

 

Sheboygan South saw their two-game winning streak snapped convincingly as they lost 7-0 to Plymouth. They had won their previous two matches by a combined score of 9-0.

 

The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Luxemburg-Casco Sports Complex.

Spartans top Wrightstown in NEC soccer

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans scored the final two goals and came away with a 3-1 win over the Wrightstown Tigers Tuesday night in North Eastern Conference soccer.

 

The Spartans scored first at the four-minute mark on a goal by Zak Patek with an assist from Johan Amador.

Wrightstown tied the game at the 13-minute mark on a goal by Abraham Garcia-Castro.

 

Right before halftime, Patek scored his second goal on a penalty kick at the 44-minute mark to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead.

 

In the second half, Luxemburg-Casco closed out the scoring with goal by Amador.

Goalkeeper Quentin Massart had six saves in the net for the Spartans who will face Sheboygan North on Thursday in non-conference action.

 

Spartans soccer visits Wrightstown

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team looks to rebound from a rude ending to their week when they head to Wrightstown for an NEC match.

 

After securing victories against Algoma and Clintonville, Xavier handed the Spartans a 4-0 defeat on Friday night. Quentin Massart did his best keeping his team in it, stopping 12 of the 16 shots on target.

 

The Tigers are 2-1-0 and are riding a two-match winning streak into Tuesday's match. They beat Kohler 1-0 in their last match.

 

Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

Spartans golf hosts Wrightstown in make-up contest

The Luxemburg-Casco golf team kicks of their holiday-shortened week with a make-up match from August 14th when Wrightstown comes calling.

 

In their last meet, the Spartans came in third out of three teams Thursday at an NEC meet featuring Denmark and Fox Valley Lutheran. Bowie Bredael led the way shooting a team-best 54 at Denmark's Twin Oaks Golf Course, six strokes behind the leader CJ Woosley from Fox Valley Lutheran. No other golfers broke 60 on the day.

 

Tee time is set for 3 p.m. at Northbrook Country Club. 

Spartans spikers secure second place at Tom Larsen Triton Invite

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball can finish off their holiday weekend on a high note with a second place finish at the Tom Larsen Triton Invite on Saturday.

 

The Spartans ran the table in pool play, defeating West DePere 2-0, DePere 2-0, and Slinger 2-0. In the semifinals, they topped host Notre Dame 2-1 before losing to NEC foe Xavier 2-0 in the title game.

 

Leading the way for the Spartans was Alayna Deprez (44 assists, 27 digs, 7 aces), Erin Cherovsky (38 assists, 6 aces), Aubrey Frey (27 kills, 31 digs, 5 aces), Miranda Schmidt (19 kills, 9 blocks), and Payton Kaminski (33 digs, 5 aces).

 

Head coach Jeff Frey was complimentary of his team post-tournament, saying that it was a good day with good wins. "These preseason tournaments are so important because they give you a chance to play good competition and see the areas that we need to grow in."

Spartans volleyball visit Notre Dame for tournament

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team heads to Notre Dame Academy on Saturday for the Tom Larsen Tournament beginning at 9 a.m. with pool play followed by bracket play at 12:30 p.m. The team will face Slinger, De Pere, and West De Pere in pool play. The three teams have started the year with a combined 9-14.

 

On Thursday, the Spartans got their NEC schedule off to a good start Thursday with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-17) victory over Little Chute. They dominated from the start thanks to three players registering at least seven kills on the evening. The defense was strong as well as Brooke VandeHei registered 15 digs and Aubrey Frey had eight digs to go with her three aces and eight kills. Alayna Deprez collected 22 Assists to go with her six digs.

Spartans soccer shut out by Xavier

Luxemburg-Casco ended their week on a sour note Friday night, getting shut out by Xavier 4-0.

 

Leading the way for the Hawks was Cody Wertman's brace with single tallies registered by Max Mirhashemi and Noah Arndt. Quentin Massart still had a lot of saves despite the four goals allowed, stopping 12 other shots.

 

It continued a hot streak for the Hawks to start the season, who have outscored their opponents 18-2 in their last three matches.

 

The Spartans hit the pitch next on Tuesday when they face Wrightstown.

The Luxemburg-Casco cross-country team battled top teams from across the region on Thursday afternoon at the De Pere Invitational hosted on the campus of UW-Green Bay.

Luxemburg-Casco football hopes for rebound against New London

After losing a see-saw affair to Kewaunee last week, the Luxemburg-Casco football team hopes home-cooking does the trick when they play at home against New London.

 

The Spartans are coming off a 31-22 loss to Kewaunee in a rain-inflicted road matchup. Max Ronsman scored two rushing touchdowns in the loss for the Spartans.

 

The Bulldogs have been feast or famine in their two games, doubling up Denmark 39-15 in the season opener before losing to Little Chute 33-6 the following week.

 

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Spartans soccer carries streak against Xavier

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team hopes to continue its winning streak under its own lights Friday night when they welcome Xavier to the sports complex.

 

The Spartans won its second straight game earlier in the week when they beat Clintonville 5-2. Reese Barbiaux's brace pushed the Spartans past the Truckers as Johan Amador also added two goals and Fredman Colindres scored one. 

 

The Hawks are 4-1 on the campaign, losing to state powerhouse Notre Dame 4-3 in their last match. The team has plenty of fire power, scoring at least three goals in all five of their matches and five goals or more in two of them.

"Tonight was a great way to start the conference season, always good to go on the road and get a win," head coach Jeff Frey said following the match  "I like the energy and passion we played with tonight and I really thought our setters did a nice job spreading the ball around to multiple hitters."

 

The Spartans will have Friday off before they open play at Notre Dame Academy on Saturday for the Tom Larsen Tournament beginning at 9 a.m. with pool play followed by bracket play at 12:30 p.m. The team will face Slinger, De Pere, and West De Pere in pool play. The three teams have started the year with a combined 9-14.
