FULL RESULTS

10 years since L-C's last track and field conference championship

The Luxemburg-Casco track and field teams are hoping to end their droughts of not winning a conference championship. The last time the boys won one was 2009 and for the girls it's been since 2006. Chris Menden was the coach of the boys team back in 2009. He was the answer to Thursday's trivia question which asked who was the coach of the last track and field team to win a conference championship at Luxemburg-Casco.

Luxemburg-Casco soccer looks for its first win

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team heads to Oshkosh tonight in search of its first win. It earned a 0-0 tie in Manitowoc earlier this week despite not having any practices outside yet this season. Luxemburg-Casco head coach Tracy Bins says their senior leadership will be important this season.

The Spartans play Oshkosh North at Titan Stadium on the UW-Oshkosh campus at 6 p.m.

Luxemburg-Casco track anxious to get outside

The distance athletes have been able to get outside, but others on Luxemburg-Casco’s track team are ready to take advantage of the nice weather. While they have waited for the snow and ice to disappear, the Spartans track team has been spread out around the school to get their workouts. Head coach Neil Seering told DoorCountyDailyNews.com’s Paul Schmitt during Wednesday’s L-C Spring Sports Preview that the team is ready to get outside.

The Spartans still have at least one more indoor meet before the outdoor season takes over as they face Chilton, Clintonville, Denmark,  Peshtigo, and  Seymour this afternoon at 4 p.m. at Seymour.

Luxemburg-Casco's first golf coach leaves lasting impact

The Luxemburg-Casco golf team only had one coach in the first 40 years of the program. William Ehren started in 1968 and finished his coaching career in 2007. His tenure finished strong with five conference championships in his last seven years including the final season. The Spartans golf team also won five regional championships and one sectional title in Ehren's 40 years.

Ehren's legacy has carried on as L-C's golf program has continued to be successful as they've won conference championships in each of the last two seasons.

The 2019 golf season is scheduled to begin on April 12th at Shamrock Heights Golf Course.

William Ehren was the answer to Thursday's trivia question which asked who coached Luxemburg-Casco's golf program for the first 40 years of its existence.

Congratulations to John Haegele for answering the question correctly!

Luxemburg-Casco baseball trying to regain 2017 form

In 2017 the Luxemburg-Casco baseball team went 23-5, won the North Eastern Conference Title and a regional championship. The Spartans will try to recapture what they had in 2017 this spring. Their first game is scheduled for March 29th when they'll host Notre Dame.

When it came time for the 2017 playoffs, L-C knocked off Denmark 10-0 in the Regional Semifinal. They then defeated Sturgeon Bay 6-2 to win the Regional Championship.

Thursday's High School Sports Trivia Contest Question of the Day was, "Who did the Luxemburg-Casco baseball team defeat in 2017 to win the regional championship?" So Sturgeon Bay was the correct answer. Congratulations to Bob Naze who answered the question correctly!

The Spartans then won the Sectional Semifinal game against Waupaca by a final score of 4-3. Their run for a state championship ended in the Sectional Final in a 5-0 loss to Mosinee.

Last season L-C finished 8-9 overall and 4-7 in North Eastern Conference Play. They were able to win another regional championship by defeating Two Rivers, Valders and Denmark before losing to Fox Valley Lutheran in the Sectional Semifinal.

Geib leads the field for Luxemburg-Casco

Griffin Geib and two other Luxemburg-Casco Spartans helped give the boys' track team six points in Thursday's Oshkosh Small School Indoor Track Invitational. Geib ran a 54.28 in the 400 m run to take sixth place overall. In the field events, Colton Koss jumped 5"06 in the high jump to take 7th and Jesse Gregorich took 7th with a pole vault height of 11 feet.

High School Sports Trivia Contest Question of the Day 3-14-19

Thursday's trivia question is, "Who did the Luxemburg-Casco baseball team defeat in 2017 to win the regional championship?"

You can find this question in the DoorCountyDailyNews.com E-paper. If you answer correctly through the E-paper, you have an opportunity to win a prize.

The answer will be posted at 7 AM on Friday.

Luxemburg-Casco's soccer beginnings

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer program has had a lot of success in the short amount of time it's been around. It got started in 2002 and Jenny Bandow was the head coach of both the boys and girls teams back then. Bandow did that from 2002-2003 through 2007-2008 when her husband Bair Bandow took over the boys team while Jenny continued coaching the girls team. Jenny Bandow coached until the 2011 season, and now she is the athletic director for the Spartans. The current AD was able to lead the boys soccer team to a conference championship in just the fourth year of the program in 2007. Bandow says it was quite an accomplishment for the program.

Jenny Bandow was the correct answer to the Thursday's high school sports trivia contest which can be found daily in the DoorCountyDailyNews.com E-Paper. If you are subscribed to the E-Paper and correctly answer the trivia question of the day, you could win a prize.

Football Booster Club helping with sports safety

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan Football Booster Club is stepping up as school booster clubs are becoming more important as budgets are being squeezed for extracurricular activities.  Pat Peterson, L-C Football Booster Club president, says upgrading equipment to deal with safety concerns for student-athletes is a major goal.  A recent fundraiser enabled the program to order new helmets.

Peterson has been involved with the booster club for the past seven years before becoming president this last year.  He says a new sports turf project for the football field is going forward and will have safety benefits as well.

Peterson says the new field will be a multi-sports complex and will allow the whole community to enjoy it.  You can find contact information for the Luxemburg-Casco Spartan Booster Club with this story below.
