Spartans top Freedom, clinch conference title share on WBDK

The undefeated Luxemburg-Casco Spartans claimed at least a share of the North Eastern Conference title on Friday night with a 28-10 win over the Freedom Irish.  The Spartans controlled the ball and used a stingy defense to prevail.

Luxemburg-Casco struck first on a 1-yard run by running back Isaac VandenBush with 2:28 left in the first quarter to give the Spartans a 7-0 lead.  Quarterback Owen Deprez followed that up with an 11-yard run with 2:04 left in the second quarter to extend the Spartan lead to 14-0.

Freedom was able to score a field goal with under a minute in the half to cut the L-C lead to 14-3 at halftime.  The Irish were able to cut the lead early in the third quarter on a 47-yard pass completion to make the score 14-10, but the Spartans responded on their next possession as VandenBush scored on a 10-yard run with 7:05 left in the third quarter to take a 21-10 lead.

Deprez capped off the scoring with a 5-yard run with 8:11 left in the game to seal the victory for the Spartans.

Luxemburg-Casco Cross Country hosts Russ Fameree Invitational

It is the return to Northbrook Golf Course after a few years away for the cross country team and its signature invitational.

COVID called off last year's Russ Fameree Invitational and course conditions moved the race to the athletic complex where runners had to start on the blacktop of the parking lot before running around the football, softball, and baseball field and finally finishing in an adjacent field. Head coach Katie Waege reflected on what makes the course special last month.

Algoma, Chilton, Coleman, N.E.W. Lutheran, Howards Grove, Kewaunee, Kiel, Manitowoc Lutheran, Mishicot, New Christian Home, Oconto, Oconto Falls, Providence Academy, Reedsville, Roncalli, Sevastopol, Sheboygan Lutheran, Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, Suring, Two Rivers, and Valley Christian are also racing in Friday's invite beginning at 3:45 p.m.
