Undefeated Spartans pound Vikings for NEC championship on WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans finished the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record and claimed the North Eastern Conference Friday night with an impressive 42-21 win over the Denmark Vikings.

A packed Luxemburg-Casco Sports Complex had an electric atmosphere that featured a senior night for 10 Spartan players who were honored after the game with an emotional speech by Coach Neil Seering.

The Spartans struck first on a 10-yard run by Max Rosman with 3:22 left in the first quarter to gain a 7-0 advantage.  Denmark then responded with a 2-yard touchdown run by Kenneth Satori after a long kick-off return to knot up the score at 7-7.  L-C would come right back with a 43-yard touchdown run by Ryan Routhieaux to take a 14-7 lead into the second quarter.

Denmark would capitalize on a fumbled snap deep in Spartan territory on an Elijah Shefchik 5-yard run to tie up the score at 14-14 with 3:02 left in the half.  Again, the Spartans drove the field to score on a 4-yard run by Isaac VandenBush to take a 21-14 lead into intermission.

VandenBush would score his second of three touchdowns for the night coming out of halftime on a 19-yard scamper.  That gave the Spartans a commanding 28-14 lead that they would never relinquish.

Evan Dorner scored on a 30-yard run late in the third quarter to give the Spartans their biggest lead of the night at 35-14.

Luxemburg-Casco (7-0, 9-0 overall) recorded their first undefeated season and NEC championship since 2016 and now will await the seeding for the WIAA Division III playoffs where they should garner a number one seed and a first-round home game next Friday.

Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call starting at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show and kick-off set for 7 pm on 96.7FM WBDK.  The game audio can also be streamed on the NewRadioSportsRadioNetwork.com.
