Spartans girls' soccer on the road against Blue Bombers in season opener

The Luxemburg-Casco girls soccer team is preparing for its season opener Tuesday, when the Spartans travel to face the Kohler Blue Bombers.

Last season, the Spartans finished 11-7-2, taking third in the Northeastern Conference with a 4-2-1 record. Potential returners this spring include first-team all-conference selections Emi Kuhn and Aaliyah Wallace.

Speaking at last week's Spring Sports Preview at the Rendezvous of Luxemburg, head coach Blair Bandow said it was a blessing to have so many seniors come back into the fold to provide leadership on and off the pitch.

The Blue Bombers finished their 2025 campaign with a 1-0 loss to St. Mary Springs in the WIAA Regional Final. They went 11-6-1 last year and welcome two All-Big East selections back to their squad.

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

Luxemburg-Casco's Treml wins 1600m at track season opener

For Luxemburg-Casco, Mason Trimburger placed ninth in the 110-meter hurdles and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles. During Tuesday's Luxemburg-Casco Spring Sports Preview at the Rendezvous of Luxemburg, head coach Neil Seering says they try to limit their indoor meets to protect the student-athletes from injuries, but believes they are excited for the opportunity to compete.

The meet begins at 4 p.m. You can watch the full Spring Sports Preview below

Rendezvous to host Luxemburg-Casco Spring Sports Preview Show on March 24th

While 20 to 30 inches of snow may delay the start of most of the competitions, NEW Radio Sports Network will kick off the Luxemburg-Casco spring sports season with a special broadcast on March 24th at the Rendezvous of Luxemburg.

Coaches and athletes from boys baseball, girls softball, track and field, boys golf, and girls soccer will join the NEW Radio Sports Network for conversations about the upcoming season. The broadcast will begin at 6 p.m. and will be carried on the NEW Radio Sports Network Facebook page.

The Spartans baseball team is coming off a first-round exit to NEC foe Waupaca in the Division 2 tournament after going 15-9 during the regular season. Gavin Lax, Myles Jandrain, and Tanner Tice are among the seniors poised to return.

The Spartans softball team finished 21-4 last year, concluding the year with a close loss to NEC rival Denmark in the regional final. Seniors Alayna Deprez, Riley Westlund, Rylan Kaminski, and Baylee Wypiszenski are set to return this season.

The Spartans soccer team went 12-10-2 last season as they made a run to the regional final before falling to Kiel. Seniors Ashley Fameree, Alana Mrotek, Claire Marohl, Emiri Kuhn, Diem Bonness, Claire VandenBush, and Maggie Pravechek lead a Spartans squad that finished tied for second in the NEC.

The Spartans track team is coming off a year where three athletes competed in four different events in the WIAA State Track Championships in LaCrosse. Returning to the fold from that meet are Mason Trimburger (110m and 300m hurdles) and Claire DuChateau (3200m).

The Spartans golf team is coming off a third place finish in the regional and sectional meets and sending one golfer to the state meet. Stanley Peot is the lone Spartans golfer from that team returning for his senior season.

Spartan boys make NEC all-conference selections

The North Eastern Conference recently announced its all-conference teams for the 2025-26 season, with Luxemburg-Casco having two players honored.

Bryce Piesler earned second-team honors, averaging 11.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and one steal per game.

Jacob Coisman received an honorable mention, averaging 10.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game this season.

L-C's Neubert announces commitment to Minnesota Wrestling

Two-time state champion Carson Neubert announced on Wednesday that he will cross state lines after his high school career is over to wrestle at the University of Minnesota.

Neubert made the announcement on the WI Wrestle Podcast with Jacob Raschka and Nate Arquinego, unveling the different shade of maroon and gold under his Luxemburg-Casco sweatshirt. After listing off other programs he was in talks with such as Wisconsin, Northwestern, Princeton, and Army, he said he had a great connection with the coaches and that it felt like family with the guys.

Neubert just wrapped up his junior season, going 54-1 on the year and undefeated against in-state opponents. With a high school record of 164-8, Neubert told the Kewaunee County Wrestling Podcast earlier this year is that he is going for the state's all-time victory record of 212 wins.

Plymouth pounces late to end Spartans season

Another athletic season has come to an end for the Luxemburg Casco Spartans at the hands of the Plymouth Panthers, as the Panthers used a strong second half to pull away from LC in a 66-52 game that was heard on 104.1 WRLU.

Plymouth controlled the opening tip and went to Kayden Schultz right away who put the Panthers in front with a trip to the free throw line.  Jacob Coisman answered back by hitting a three pointer to give the Spartans a brief lead.  The lead went back and forth for much of the half with neither team able to pull away significantly.  Tatem Klaubauf sank a triple in the closing moments of the half to trim the Plymouth advantage to four points, but a layup at the buzzer sent the Panthers to the locker room up 26-20.

Plymouth scored on its opening possession to increase the lead up to 8, but the Spartans fought back.  Eli Derenne ignited a 6-0 run to close the gap, but the Panthers answered with a run of their own.  Luxemburg Casco turned to Coisman throughout much of the second, and he facilitated the Spartans offense as the team managed one more comeback. Each time LC got within striking distance though, Charlie Knass seemed to have an answer, part of a 13 point second half. Despite its best efforts, the Spartans ran out of gas and Plymouth pulled away in the late stages of the game for the win.

Knass led all scorers with 19 points, well above his 7.2 average points per game. Also in double figures for the Panthers was Augie Eigenberger who finished with 12, and Kayden Schultz who finished well below his per game average with 10 points.

For the Spartans, Coisman's 17 points led the way in the loss.  Tatem Klaubauf added 11.

Luxemburg Casco's season concludes with a much improved final record of 16-10, surpassing the combined win total of the past three seasons.  The Spartans will graduate 4 seniors, Mason Burmeister, Mason Trimberger, Brady Yunk, and Myles Jandrain.

Plymouth will travel to West De Pere for the WIAA Division 2 Regional Final.

Spartans and Panthers renew playoff rivalry on 104.1 WRLU

Two schools very familiar with each other are set to do battle for yet another postseason matchup when Luxemburg Casco travels south to face the Plymouth Panthers on 104.1 WRLU.

The Spartans managed to hold off Green Bay West in the opening round of tournament play earlier this week, taking down the Wildcats 53-52.  Ethan Ropson led the way with 16 points in the win.

Plymouth received a first round bye into the regional semifinals, after a 17-7 regular season.  The Panthers dropped its regular season finale, 53-52 to a top ranked Port Washington team, but had won 10 in a row prior to that game. The Spartans will be tasked with trying to slow down Kayden Schultz who leads Plymouth in scoring, averaging 27.4 points per game.

Eric Fischer will have the call from Plymouth High School, with the pregame show kicking off at 6:45pm with tipoff to follow at 7:00pm.

Neubert leads All-NEC selections for wrestling

NEC Champion Luxemburg-Casco placed 10 boys and one girl on its All-Conference teams, led by 144-lb state champion Carson Neubert.

Neubert was named the NEC's Wrestler of the Year and an unanimous First-Team selection after completing a season where he did not lose in the state of Wisconsin. He is in line to participate in WIWrestle's King of Wisconsin meet at Kettle Moraine High School next weekend.

State medalist Joseph Jeanquart joined Neubert as an unanimous selection while Zaender Schoenebeck, Mason Boulanger, Logan Ellwanger, and Linken Bastien were also First-Team honorees. Coy Anderson, Josiah Bastien, Cayden Zehren, and Calvin Henderson were named to the Second-Team.

Kiley Georgel was the lone Spartans wrestler to be named All-NEC for the girls.

Seniors Chloe Host, Alayna Deprez, and Alana Mrotek were named honorable mention selections while junior Sienna Blohowiak was placed on the All-NEC Defensive First Team.

Spartans hold off Wildcats, advance to Regional Semis on 104.1 WRLU

It took all 36 minutes for a winner to be decided, but after all was said and done, Luxemburg Casco took down Green Bay West to advance in the WIAA Playoffs, winning 53-52 as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

The Spartans got behind early, as the Wildcats got out to an early 9-2 advantage.  Slowly but surely, LC clawed back into the contest, eventually grabbing a 13-12 lead. The lead ping ponged back and forth, as both teams traded makes.  Luxemburg Casco went on an 8-0 run to grab a 23-16 lead, only to see Green Bay West go on a 7-0 run to tie the game once again.  In the closing seconds of the first half, Ethan Ropson launched and connected on a deep three, giving the Spartans a 26-23 advantage at the break.

Both teams came out of the locker room with strong starts, scoring on their early possessions.  Luxemburg Casco was able to build the lead to as high as 8 points through the half, led by Ropson's 12 second half points.  The Wildcats refused to go away, getting some timely buckets from Alston Metoxen and Bryson Thao. With the game tightening up, Green Bay West was forced to foul, but the Spartans struggled from the charity stripe in the late going, allowing the Wildcats to close the gap. Ethan Ropson once again came in the clutch, splitting a trip at the line but giving LC a four point lead.  Metoxen went down the floor and hit a three but it was too late, as the Spartans did not need to inbound the ball, holding on for the win.

Ropson led the way for Luxemburg Casco with 15 points, with Jacob Coisman adding 9 points.  Metoxen led all scorers in the game with 21 points.

The Spartans advance to the WIAA Regional Semifinals, and will travel to Plymouth on Friday evening.

Spartans set to start playoff run on 104.1 WRLU

The "Road to the Kohl Center" starts tonight for the Luxemburg Casco Spartans boys basketball team, when it hosts Green Bay West on 104.1 WRLU.

Luxemburg Casco had a resurgent regular season under head coach Mitch Jandrin in his first full season as the leader of the Spartans.  The team went 15-9 on the campaign, including a stretch of winning 7 in a row. The final win in that streak was against tonight's opponent, the Green Bay West Wildcats, a 69-47 takedown of the Bay Conference opponent. In that contest, the Spartans had three double digit scorers, Bryce Piesler, Jacob Coisman, and Mason Burmeister.

Green Bay West comes into tonight's contest with a 1-22 record, earning the 11 seed in the WIAA Division 2 playoffs. It's one win came against Green Bay East, a 62-42 victory in mid February.  The Wildcats were led by Alston Metoxen, who averaged 19.5 points per game.

Eric Fischer and Ramsay Thompson will have the call of tonight's action, with the pregame show at 6:40 and tipoff at 7:00 pm.
