Two Luxemburg-Casco wrestlers still have a chance to stand on top of the podium after two days of the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament in Madison.

On the girls side, Kiley Georgel added a second-period pin of Sophia Peterson (Muskego-Girls) to her total to improve to 3-0 on the weekend at 185 pounds. For the boys, Carson Neubert won by major decision over Lincoln Flayter (Hartford Union) to clinch his spot in the grand march at 126 pounds. Blakelee Bastien can finish no worse than fourth place after dropping his semifinal match to Luke Kamish (New Richmond). Joseph Jeanquart (132 lbs) can still wrestle his way into a medal after winning his consolation round match.

The Luxemburg-Casco Lady Spartans had their hearts broken by the Pulaski Red Raiders in a 38-34 overtime loss at home.

The Spartans clawed back from a four-point deficit at halftime to force the game into overtime. Sienna Blohowiak led the comeback with seven of her team-high 12 points in the frame. The Red Raiders proved to be too much in the extra period, outscoring the host Spartans 10-6.

Joining Blohowiak in the scoring column were seven points from Brianna Bray and six points from Erin Cherovsky and Alayna Deprez. Olivia Sprangers led the Red Raiders to victory with 12 points. 

Five of Luxemburg-Casco's seven qualifiers posted wins on the first day of the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament on Thursday.

On the girls side, Kiley Georgel did not need much help as she won her first two matches over Rayanah Yates (West De Pere-Girls) and Merin Yates (Merrill-Girls) to advance to the semifinals. Joining her from the boys side is Carson Neubert and Blakelee Bastien. Like Georgel, Neubert registered a pin and a tech fall en route to the semifinals while Bastien posted a tech fall and a regular decision. Joseph Jeanquart and Logan Ellwanger both won their first match before falling in the quarterfinals. Mason Boulanger and Calvin Bohn each lost their first match in the tournament.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans came up just short in their senior night game 64-58 against the Waupaca Comets in the North Eastern Conference regular-season finale.

The Spartans played a strong first half, leading by 13 points at one point and taking a 33-28 lead into halftime. 

In the second half, the Comets reclaimed the lead and held on to the victory after the Spartans tied the game at one point.  

Costly turnovers late in the final minutes of the game prevented the Spartans from claiming the win.

Seniors J.D. Glampe and Josh Parins scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, to pace the Spartans, while Eli Derenne added 10 points.

Waupaca (11-7, 12-10 overall) was led by Austin Adamczak and Aaron Wolff, who scored 23 and 22 points, respectively.  

It was the last regular-season home game for four Spartan seniors: Glampe, Parins, Landon Derenne, and Reagan Doell. They were honored prior to the game and treated to a special video presentation of their basketball careers afterward. 

Spartans (3-15, 4-20 overall) will now host Green Bay Southwest on Tuesday night in a WIAA Division 2 State Tournament regional quarterfinal.  

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will celebrate their senior night as they host the Waupaca Comets in the North Eastern Conference regular-season finale.

The Spartans are coming off a 92-84 non-conference loss to the Menasha Blue Jays on Monday, while the Comets loss to Omro 67-50.

Senior Josh Parins leads the Spartans (3-14, 4-19 overall) in scoring with 10.6 points per game, with Jacob Coisman averaging 9.0. 

Waupaca (10-7, 11-10 overall) is led by Aaron Wolff, who is averaging 16.0 points per game, and Austin Adamczak, who is scoring at an 11.7 clip. 

The Comets took the first meeting of the year, beating L-C 70-62 back on January 17.

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team found themselves on top of two separate podiums at Saturday's Fond du Lac Sectional, with four others qualifying for next weekend's state meet.

Carson Neubert (126 lbs.) and Blakelee Bastien (144 lbs.) won their respective weight classes, going a combined 6-0 with a pin and a technical fall apiece. Joseph Jeanquart (132 lbs.), Mason Boulanger (150 lbs.), Logan Ellwanger (167 lbs.), Calvin Bohm (285 lbs.) are also heading to Madison after taking second place in their respective weight classes.

Luxemburg-Casco's Kiley Georgel will make another run at the state tournament after winning the 185 pounds weight class at Friday's Menasha sectional.

Georgel never left the first period in her three matches, winning all of them via pin in less than two minutes. First-time wrestler Jakayla Steinhorst battled into the second period of her opening and only match of the evening.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans could not keep pace with the Freedom Irish Friday night, falling 81-52 in North Eastern Conference play at home. 

The #2 state-ranked Irish outscored the Spartans 15-2 in the first six minutes with L-C’s only points coming on a slam dunk by sophomore Jacob Coisman.

The Spartans went on a 9-3 run to cut the lead to 18-11 for the Irish before Freedom responded with a 29-7 run to take a 47=18 lead at intermission.  Sophomore Donovan Davis needed 18 points coming into the game to hit 1000 points in his career and slammed a dunk late in the half to eclipse the landmark.

The Spartans had difficulty breaking the Irish’s full-court pressure and stopping the inside presence of Davis, who scored 19 of his game-high 22 points in the first half. Drew Kurz added 17 points for Freedom, which stayed perfect in the conference, winning its 13th straight game.

Coisman led the Spartans with 11 points, while Tatem Klaubauf and Josh Parins tallied nine points each.

The Spartans (3-14, 4-18 overall) will now play Menasha on Monday, while Freedom (17-0, 21-1) can claim the outright NEC championship with the win.

The Luxemburg-Casco girls basketball team returned from a three-point halftime deficit to beat Waupaca on the road 42-36 Thursday night.

The Spartans outscored the Comets 29-20 in the second half to secure their fifth win in their last eight games. The second-half comeback was sparked the Spartans' Alayna Deprez, who scored all of her team-high 12 points after the break. Erin Cherovsky added 10 points and three other players scored four points in the win. Rossalyn Wehmeyer led the Comets with 12 points, 10 of which came in the second half.  

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys will look to upset the North Eastern Conference-leading Freedom Irish on Friday night.

The Spartans (3-13, 4-17 overall) are coming off a 60-31 loss to the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes on Monday, while Freedom (16-0, 20-1) has been off since last Thursday when they edged the Foxes 55-53 at home.

In January, Freedom downed the Spartans 93-74 at home and has won 12 straight games since their only loss of the season, a 71-49 loss to Slinger in December. 

Luxemburg-Casco is led by Josh Parins, who has 10.4 points per game, and JD Glampe has 9.2 points per game.

Donovan Davis is averaging 23.1 points per contest and pulling 12.1 rebounds for the Irish.  Drew Kortz and Kaden Vandenberg tally 19.5 and 11.6 points per game to complement the Irish attack.

In high school girls' basketball action Tuesday night, the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans could not keep up with the Oconto Falls Panthers, dropping a 54-38 decision on the road in North Eastern Conference play. 

The Spartans were down 24-14 at halftime and could not rally in the second half against the Panthers.

Sienna Blohowiak led L-C with 16 points, and Brianna Bray scored eight points in the loss.

Rylie Shallow had 19 points, and Ella Jahnke added 14 more for Oconto Falls, who capitalized from the free throw line and hit 17 of 21 from the charity stripe.

Oconto Falls improved to 7-10 in the NEC, 9-14 overall.

The Spartans (9-8, 10-13 overall) will now play Waupaca on Thursday night in the regular season finale.

In their first season as a Division 1 wrestling team due to the WIAA Performance Factor guidelines, the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans saw their season come to a close in Suamico Tuesday night as they beat Slinger 46-32 before falling to Bay Port 44-21.

In their dual against the Owls, the Spartans picked up bonus points in seven of the 12 contest matches, including pins by Carson Blohowiak, Carson Neubert, Blakelee Bastien, Logan Ellwanger, Calvin Henderson, and Calvin Bohm.

In their match against the Pirates, the Spartans won four of the first five matches before losing points in eight of the following nine matches. Neubert, Jeanquart, Bastien, and Henderson ended their days undefeated.

While the team is done as a full squad, nearly everyone that wrestled on Tuesday will be wrestling this Friday (girls) and Saturday (boys) in the individual sectional meet.

Eleven Luxemburg-Casco girls basketball players contributed at least two points in their 58-33 win over Mishicot on Monday night.

The Spartans' offense was good in the first half was good, but their defense was even better as they allowed only eight points in the first half to take a 27-point advantage into the locker room. Sienna Blohowiak led the Spartans with 15 points while Erin Cherovsky and Maggie DeBaker each registered 10 points in the win. The Indians were led by Kensi Rosenow led all scorers with 19 points while Karsyn Krause and Anna Cisler each had seven points to contribute the remainder of their team's points. The win was the Spartans' fifth win and their last eight games.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans wrestling team is just two wins away from clinching another trip to the Team State Tournament when they meet Slinger, Port Washington, and host Bay Port in Suamico on Tuesday.

Cayden Zehren (113), Carson Blohowiak (120), Carson Neubert (126), Joseph Jeanquart (132), Logan Salm (138), Blakelee Bastien (144), Mason Boulanger (150), Ethan Werner (157), Logan Ellwanger (165), Calvin Henderson (175), Caleb Salentine (190), Aaron Delebreau (215), and Calvin Bohm (285) all qualified for individual sectionals with top-4 finishes. Neubert and Bastien will be among the top seeds in the sectional after winning their respective brackets. The Spartans scored 233 points on the day, 20 points behind regional champion Bay Port.

The Owls won their regional with 217 points, 10 points ahead of second place Port Washington, who will open their Team Sectional against Bay Port. Ten wrestlers from Slingers advanced to this weekend's individual sectional meet, five of which were champions.

The first dual between the Spartans and the Owls will begin at 6 p.m. with the second dual occurring approximately 20 minutes after both semifinals are over.

The lone area boys basketball game on the schedule for Monday will see Luxemburg-Casco make the trip to Appleton to face Fox Valley Lutheran.

The Spartans are trying to snap a four game losing streak, which includes a 77-68 loss to Wrightstown in its previous game last Thursday.  JD Glampe led a trio of Spartans players in double figures with 25 points. Josh Parins registered 11 points, and Jacob Coisman added 10 points in the loss. 

The Foxes have played .500 basketball since early January, going every other day with a win or a loss during the month of February. Lucas Papendorf scored 19 points and two other registered 10 points in their 55-53 loss to Freedom their last time out.

The tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team will be back in action on Tuesday in the Team Sectional at Bay Port after taking second place to the Pirates in the Preble Regional on Saturday.

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team lost their second straight game this week on Friday, falling to Freedom 41-33.

The Spartans held a three-point lead at the break, but they were outscored by the Irish 22-11 to lose the contest. Gracie Martzahl hit four three-pointers in the second half to pace the Irish with 22 points. Alayna Deprez was the only Spartan in double figures with 10 points. Erin Cherovsky pitched in eight points, while Brianna Bray and Sienna Blohowiak chipped in six points in the Spartans' loss.

In Tuesday's 49-32 loss to Fox Valley Lutheran, Bray hit three three-pointers en route to an 11-point evening, with Blohowiak chipping in seven points.

Kiley Georgel's championship at 185 pounds led the way for the Luxemburg-Casco girls wrestling team at the Wrightstown Regional on Friday night.

Georgel only had one contested match to worry about and made the most of it, pinning Rayanah Yates (West De Pere) in three minutes. Jakayla Steinhorst split her two contested matches at 107 pounds to take second place. Georgel and Steinhorst will wrestle at next weekend's sectional meet. Evelyn Lange missed out on punching her ticket to sectionals, taking fifth place after posting a 2-2 record on the night.

The Luxemburg-Casco boys basketball team closed the gap in the second half but the hole was too deep in a 77-68 loss to Wrightstown on Thursday. 

Trailing by 14 points at the break, the Spartans staged a small comeback in the second half to outscore the Tigers 45-40. JD Glampe led a trio of Spartans players in double figures with 25 points. Josh Parins registered 11 points, and Jacob Coisman added 10 points. Ethan Cyra's 20 points paced the Tigers in the win with three players also scoring in double figures and six total players scoring at least six points. 

Kiley Georgel recorded four pins en route to a Green Bay Preble Girls Wrestling Tournament crown for Luxemburg-Casco. The rest of the team also took home hardware, with Jakayla Steinhorst finishing in sixth place with two pins in her five matches, while teammate Evelyn Lange won one contest en route to a fourth-place finish.

Southern Door, Kewaunee, Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol, and Luxemburg-Casco will head to Green Bay for a tournament that will feature varsity, junior varsity, and girls wrestlers from Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, Campbellsport, De Pere, Denmark, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Green Bay Preble, Green Bay United, Indian Trail & Academy, Manitowoc Lincoln, Marathon, Menasha, Nicolet, Peshtigo, Pulaski, Shawano Community, Sheboygan North, Sheboygan South, Shiocton, Whitefish Bay, and Xavier. The first matches begin at 9:30 a.m.

Next weekend, the girls will have their regional tournament on February 14th, while the boys will wrestle on February 15th.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans dominated the Little Chute Mustangs 69-26 in a North Eastern Conference girls' basketball Tuesday night in Luxemburg.

The senior night crowd was treated to a memorable evening as all three seniors played key roles in the win. Erin Cherovsky scored 12 points, Hannah Schley had 5 points, and Maggie DeBaker added 4 more. All three girls were honored before and after the game.

The Spartans jumped off to a quick start forcing numerous turnovers that turned into easy baskets on the offensive end.  A late basket by Sienna Blohowiak in the final seconds of the first half gave the Spartans a commanding 41-16 lead at intermission.

Brianna Bray leads the way in scoring for the Spartans with 16 points, while Blohowiak added 15 more.

The Mustangs (0-14, 0-18 overall) were led by Elliana Martin, who scored nine points, as Little Clute lost its 42nd consecutive game.

The Spartans (8-5, 8-10 overall) will now finish the regular season with six straight road games before the WIAA state tournament regionals.

The next game broadcast on 104.1 WRLU will be the Luxemburg-Casco boys versus the Freedom Irish on Friday, January 21.   Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Luxemburg-Casco High School. The Spartans (7-5, 7-10 overall) are coming off a 46-29 win over the Wrightstown Tigers last Thursday, while Little Chute (0-17, 0-13 overall) is still looking for its first win of the season after falling hard to the Denmark Vikings 61-9 on the road last Friday.

Earlier this season, the Spartans blew out the Mustangs in Little Chute 67-24.

Brianna Bray leads the Spartans in scoring with 13.3 points per game, while Sienna Blohowiak is averaging 11.2 a game.

The Mustangs, who have lost 41staight games, are led by Miranda Kirchner with a 4.4-point average.

Led by Carson Neubert's championship at 126 pounds, the Spartans took 9th place as a team with 109 points. Blakelee Bastien narrowly missed his own championship at 144 pounds, finishing second. Carson Blohowiak (120 lbs, 4th), Joseph Jeanquart (132 lbs, 3rd), Mason Boulanger (150 lbs, 6th), and Logan Ellwanger (165 lbs, 8th) made their way onto the podium.
