The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team will look for better results in conference play on Thursday at Oconto Falls.

The Spartans have lost games to conference rival Marinette and non-conference foe Pulaski to start their season. In Tuesday's loss to the Red Raiders, the Spartans' Alana Mrotek and Alayna Deprez scored eight points each.

The Panthers' campaign has gone in the other direction with a 2-0 mark, including a 40-point blowout of Little Chute in their last game. The Panthers have three players scoring in double figures: Maddy Maloney (15.0 ppg), Amber Otto (12.5 ppg), and Rylie Shallow (10.0 ppg).

Tip-off is at 7 p.m., with the game serving as the Panthers' FBLA March of Dimes Event.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan girls could not keep pace with the Pulaski Red Raiders Tuesday night, falling 53-39.

The Spartans hung close, trailing only 21-16 at halftime, but could not pull any closer as Pulaski prevailed in the non-conference matchup in Luxemburg.

Alana Mrotek and Alayna Deprez led the Spartans in scoring with eight points each, as Luxemburg-Casco falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the NEC.

Maggie Lardinois had a huge game for Pulaski, with 23 points, and Olivia Sprangers added 15 more. 

Luxemburg-Casco will now travel to Oconto Falls to take on the Panthers on Thursday night in a conference game slated to start at 7:00 p.m. 

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans rolled to their first win of the season Tuesady night in Marinette, defeating the Marines 74-6 in North Eastern Conference wrestling.  The Spartans used 11 pins to come away with the dominating win.

The Logan Vander Velden era begins on Tuesday night when Luxemburg-Casco opens its season against conference foe Marinette.

Vander Velden replaces Tyler Thrune on the bench after he led the Spartans to an 8-17 record last season. Their 2022-2023 campaign ended in the first game of the WIAA Tournament against Pulaski. Braeden Schley is their top returning player after leading the team in assists per game (2.7 apg) and near the top in rebounds (4.8 rpg).

The Marines opened their season with a split in the M&O/Packerland Challenge. They beat Coleman 82-58 after losing to Crivitz 70-60. Jordan Race is averaging a doube-double per game with about 18 points and ten rebounds a game.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Luxemburg.

Pick a title, and the Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team will begin defending it Tuesday night when they travel to Marinette to battle the Marines.

The Spartans ended the 2022-2023 season with a conference, regional, and team state title, in addition to winning other smaller tournaments along the way. The last we saw of the Spartans beat Evansville 63-9 in the state semifinal before winning the state championship with a 37-20 victory against Prairie du Chien. The Spartans also return several of their state qualifiers from a year ago, including second-place finishers Max Ronsman and Trace Schoenebeck. Even with an extended run for many of his wrestlers due to the football team's success, head coach Chas Treml was confident that his team would be ready for the grind of another season with expectations being held over them.

The Marines sent one wrestler to the state meet, with Kaylee Mcfadden taking third in the girls' competition. The team sent three wrestlers to last year's sectional, with Isaac Hermanson (23-16) taking fourth at 106 pounds as their top finisher. Jaxson Smith (182) and Logan Paris (195) also qualified.

The first match is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Beth Budnik era began with Luxemburg-Casco falling to Marinette 43-35. The two teams kept things close in the first half, with the visiting Marines only holding an 18-16 at the break. Bryana Torkko was a thorn for the Spartans, scoring all eight of her points in the first half and joining Riley Kieffer and Chloe Seymour with the team lead. Brianna Bray and Erin Cherovsky carried the load for the Spartans in the first half, scoring seven points. The Marines would outscore the Spartans 25-19 in the second half thanks to six points from Madison Kuoazk, all of which came after the break. Cherovsky would end her night with 14 points as Bray added 13 in the loss for the Spartans. 

The Red Raiders are starting their campaign slowly, losing three games in the season's opening two weeks. After losing by double figures to West De Pere, they dropped matchups to Seymour and New London by a combined seven points. Olivia Spranger is leading the Red Raiders attack with 11.5 points per game.

Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m.

I am thankful for my faith, my family, my friends, and the opportunities I have to teach, coach, and lead others and, more importantly, to form and develop meaningful and impactful relationships. I am thankful for all of the coaches I work with and the time, effort, and dedication they each give to make our teams be their best. I am thankful for all the student-athletes I have been blessed to coach, to be a small part of their lives to hopefully have made a small difference and helped make them believe in themselves, that they are enough, and I love them no matter what.  I’m thankful for living in a small community where values like faith and family are still our foundation.  I’m thankful for their unwavering support, hard work, and embracing “The Yellow Bus Team”. It takes a village to do this, and in our case, it takes two.  I’m thankful for a small idea, “The Brotherhood of Belief,” and how it has moved, inspired, and has had people believe in something bigger than themselves, that faith, hope, and love in each other is something that we should all be thankful for no matter what the circumstances or results of a game are. 

In the end, it won’t matter how big your house is, what kind of car you drive, or how much money you make.  What will matter is, did we live the life God created us to live? Did we develop great relationships? Did we make a difference in the lives of others? Too many people realize too late that they are focused on the wrong things.  So my thankfulness as a husband, father, brother, son, friend, teacher, and coach revolves around this concept, and when I think of this, it reminds me of why I do what I do: to inspire change in others. 

There are different kinds of gifts, there are different kinds of service, and there are different kinds of work that each of us do, but in all of them and in every one of you, God’s work shows up daily in all that you do.  He has placed each of you here for a purpose, even when it is not always noticed. I want to remind all of you of the positive influence you have on children, students, staff, and whomever you work within our communities, I am so very blessed and thankful to be a small part of this labor of love. Do not be afraid. Believe in yourself. You are all enough! I’m thankful for all of it.

The Spartans are coming off an 11-14 record that saw them go 9-9 in the North Eastern Conference. Their season ended early in the WIAA Tournament when they lost to West De Pere 62-22. Leading scorers Brianna Bray (7.5 ppg) and Magdeline Hanmann (6.2 ppg) are back in the fold, but they will have a new coach leading them from the bench. Beth Budnik takes over the program from Taylor Bredael-Schmidt. Like Schmidt, Budnik was on a state championship team in 2013 when her Kewaunee Storm beat East Troy. 

The Marines lost their first game of the season last week to Coleman 44-32. Riley Kieffer led the way with eight points, while two other players contributed six points.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

The Luxemburg-Casco football team earned the silver ball, but the community made them feel like gold Friday when they brought it home.

Revelers lined Main Street in Luxemburg to welcome back the Spartans to a champions' welcome despite the team falling to Lodi 38-14 in the state title game. The afternoon concluded at the school where players, families, and fans were able to get a close-up of the trophy itself and celebrate the team's accomplishments.

The Spartans' winter sports seasons will finally get underway on Tuesday when the girls' basketball team hosts Marinette.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans came up short in their bid for a Division 4 State championship in Madison Thursday night, losing to the Lodi Blue Devils 38-14. 

Blue Devil quarterback Mason Lane led a potent offense that put up 448 yards in total offense and scored touchdowns on their first four possessions.

The Spartans came back twice to narrow the lead to seven points in the first half but could not slow down the Blue Devils in the second half.

The Blue Devils scored on the first offensive play of the game on a 67-yard pass from Lane to Aiden Groskopf to put Lodi up 7-0.

After an interception, Lodi drove down and scored on a four-yard run by Lane to take a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Spartans fought back cutting the lead to 14-7 with 7:43 left in the second quarter on a two-yard run by Andrew Klass after L-C drove 65 yards in 14 plays.

Lodi would extend their lead to 21-7 with 5:15 left in the half on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Lane to Gavin Sargeant, but the Spartans responded quickly when Klass scored on a 58-yard wildcat run to make it 21-14 only seconds later.

A 59-yard touchdown by Brady Puhs on a screen pass from Lane gave the Blue Devils a 28-14 lead with 2:27 left in the half and a missed field goal at the end of the half by Lodi kept the Spartans within two scores.

The second half saw Lodi strike fast after another interception on a 74-yard touchdown run by Kyler Clemens, who finished the game with 147 yards on 18 carries.

A 23-yard field goal by Lodi closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter as the Blue Devils claimed the championship with a decisive 38-14 victory.

The Spartans were led by Klass on the ground with 81 yards on ten carries.  Senior Max Ronsman was held to just 31 yards on eight runs and was 13 for 26 passing for 163 yards with two interceptions, as the Blue Devil defense controlled the Spartan attack most of the night.  Trace Schoenebeck caught eight passes for 76 yards to lead the receiving crew.

The Spartans finish the season with an outstanding 12-2 overall record, a state runner-up trophy, and winners of the North Eastern Conference.

The program will miss the 15 seniors (pictured below) who led the team to a historic state final run to Madison.

Luxemburg-Casco goalkeeper Tabi Lemens made things official on Tuesday, signing her National Letter of Intent to continue her soccer career at UW-Parkside.

The senior goalkeeper put pen to paper after taking to Instagram earlier this year to make the announcement, thanking her family, friends, and coaches for the support they have given her along the way. As a junior, Lemens posted four clean sheets en route to an All-NEC First Team selection and Defensive Player of the Year honors. She was also a member of the conference's first team her freshman and sophomore seasons.

The Rangers are coming off a 7-11-1 record in 2022, including a 4-9-1 conference mark against the likes of Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan. The program has reached the NCAA Tournament eight times since adding women's soccer in 1994.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will make their first trip to Camp Randall Stadium in Madison for the Division 4 State Final football championship against the undefeated Lodi Blue Devils on Thursday night. 

The Spartans (12-1) are coming off a thrilling 23-21 comeback victory over Catholic Memorial last week in Kewaskum, winning on a last-second field goal by Trace Shoenebeck. 

Quarterback Max Ronsman, who scored on a huge 98-yard run last week, leads the way for the Spartans with 1351 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns while tossing 11 touchdowns with over 2100 yards passing for the season. 

Lodi, who won the Capitol Conference with a 7-0 record, defeated Baldwin-Woodville 49-29 in the semi-final last Friday at Arcadia High School.

Blue Devil quarterback Mason Lane is a duo threat like Ronsman, having put up 1057 yards on the ground with 22 touchdowns while passing for 21 scores with only two interceptions.

For Head Coach Neil Seering, he does not have to go far for advice on how to approach the football team's first state title game appearance.

Head volleyball coach Jeff Frey and head wrestling coach Chas Treml are no strangers to the bright lights of state title matches. Both coaches have brought home multiple gold trophies since 2017. Treml was charged with continuing the tradition of Spartans wrestling at the state level as one of the most decorated programs in Wisconsin history.  Fresh off of two appearances at the team state tournament in Madison, including a title this year, Treml knows his wrestlers on the football team will be ready.

Frey is slightly closer to Seering's situation, leading the Spartans to their first state tournament experience in 2017 after never making it. Similar to what Camp Randall Stadium will offer the football team, the volleyball team had to deal with the challenges of playing in a bigger building, which, in their case, was the Resch Center. He says there is no way to prepare for it before game day, but you can embrace the opportunity it brings.

Frey and Treml advise the coaches and players to have fun and soak it all in. Luxemburg-Casco will battle Lodi in the Division 4 State Title game on Thursday at 7 p.m. Paul Schmitt and Eric Fischer will have the call on U-102.1 beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening kick at 7 p.m.

If you are a Luxemburg-Casco School District family and you want to make plans to catch the football team at Camp Randall Stadium, administrators are doing what they can to give you the green light.

The Spartans clinched their first-ever trip to the state championship last Friday night when Trace Schoenbeck celebrated his birthday with a game-winning kick to give his team the 23-21 victory over traditional power Catholic Memorial.

As a result, district administrators altered their schedules for Thursday and Friday to allow students, faculty, and their families the opportunity to support the Spartans in Madison. The district will close Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and cancel its afternoon 4K session. Primary school families will have an extra week to prepare for parent/teacher conferences, as those have been moved from Thursday to November 20th. On Friday, Luxemburg-Casco School District canceled classes after many staff requests for the day off. January 15th will be an attendance day for students and staff members will have an extra day tacked onto their contract year. The district reminded parents that they have ten days each school year to excuse their student for any reason per state statute. Anything beyond ten days is considered truancy.

Speaking after Friday’s game on the NEW Radio Sports Network, head football coach Neil Seering said how proud he is of the team and how deserving they are to have this experience.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans are heading to the state championship in Madison after Trace Schoenebeck kicked a 24-yard field goal in the final seconds to upend the Waukesha Catholic Memorial Crusaders 23-21in a Division 4 State Semi-Final football matchup in Kewaskum on U102.1 FM. 

The L-C defense came up big all night long as the Spartans were able to overcome four turnovers in the game.

The Spartans scored first on a 10-yard run by quarterback Max Ronsman with 23 seconds left in the first quarter.  Schoenebeck would hit the upright on the extra point and the score stayed at 6-0.

The Crusaders would respond quickly with a 42-yard touchdown strike from MJ Mitchell to Corey Smith to give Catholic Memorial a 7-6 after the successful PAT.

Luxemburg-Casco would recapture the lead with 7:15 left in the half on an 11-yard touchdown run by Andrew Klass making it 13-7.

With the Spartans pinned back on their own two-yard line after a punt, Ronsman would provide the longest run of the season, going the distance with an electrifying dash down the sidelines for 98 yards.

Catholic Memorial would threaten late in the second quarter, but Chris VanderWielen intercepted a pass at the ten-yard line when Mitchell was pressured by Braeden Schley, keeping the score at 20-7 at halftime.  

The second half would see the Crusaders score on the opening drive on a 26-yard pass play with 7:58 left in the third quarter to cut the Spartan lead to 20-14.

After an interception deep in Spartan territory with 6:04 left in the game, Mitchell scored on a quarterback sneak to give the Crusaders a 21-20 lead after the extra point.

A Spartan drive then was stalled with just 2:15 left in the game, leaving it up to the defense who came up with a huge three-and-out to get the ball back to the offense for one last chance.

Taking over after a punt at their own 17-yard line, the Spartans came up with big plays, including a 30-yard completion to Schley, to work themselves into field goal range.  

The Spartans lined up for a 29-yard field goal and the Crusaders jumped offside to set up Schoenebeck's clutch 24-yard game-winner with 2.8 seconds left that he drilled through the uprights.  

After offsetting penalties when the game seemed to be over, the final play had Mitchell throw a desperation pass that was intercepted by Trevor Beaupre sending the Spartan faithful into a frenzy and Luxemburg-Casco to Madison for the first-ever appearance at the WIAA State Championships in Division 4.

The Spartans (12-1) will now play Lodi in the championship game at Camp Randall Stadium on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans travel to Kewaskum to take on the Waukesha Catholic Memorial Crusaders in a Division 4 State Semi-Final football matchup. 

The Spartans are coming off a thrilling 24-21 comeback victory on the road against #1-seeded Two Rivers last week in level 3 action.

The Crusaders of the Parkland Conference went 7-0 in conference play and lost only to Franklin and Marquette University schools in the first two games of the season.  Catholic Memorial beat Lakeside Lutheran 20-7 last week to advance to level 4.    

Max Ronsman leads the way for the Spartans with over 1900 yards passing and 1200 rushing while tossing 11 touchdowns and running for 22 more.  The Crusaders counter with quarterback MJ Mitchell who has thrown 21 touchdowns with no interceptions while rushing for 752 yards and 15 scores.

The Northeastern Conference has trickled out its All-Conference teams over the last few weeks but made it official with over 30 Luxemburg-Casco Spartans making their respective teams.

The football team nearly swept the football players of the year awards with Max Ronsman winning the player and running back of the year awards, Ryland Day capturing co-lineman of the year honors, and Trace Schoenebeck garnering the co-defensive back of the year award.

A trio of Luxemburg-Casco golfers were honored on Wednesday for their accomplishments away from the course.

Ashley Fameree, Bowie Bredael, Katie Ledvina, and Morgan DeJardin were named to the Academic All-State team by the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin (GCAW). Nominated by coaches, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher, participate in at least 75% of their team’s varsity matches during the previous season, and be a sophomore, junior, or senior. 

The GCAW proudly announced that 434 students from 106 high schools were honored this year with an average GPA of 3.824.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans upset the #1 ranked Two Rivers Raiders 24-21 in a WIAA Division 4 Level 3 playoff Friday night at Jerry Bonino Field in Two Rivers.

The game started out slowly as both defenses kept the opposing offenses in check throughout the first quarter.  The #2 seeded Spartans then scored on a 94-yard drive that used up over six minutes of the clock on a six-yard run by quarterback Max Ronsman to make it 7-0 with 7:40 left in the second quarter.

Two Rivers responded after an interception to tie the game on a 1-yard run by quarterback Jason Klinkner with 2:20 left in the half.  Luxemburg-Casco would make a drive late in the half but an interception near the end zone kept the score 7-7 into halftime.

The wild second half started off with Luxemburg-Casco trying an on-side kick that was successful but called back because of an offside penalty.

The Spartans eventually blocked a punt on the Raiders’ first drive of the half and converted on a 20-yard field goal by Trace Schoenebeck to reclaim the lead at 10-7.   

Striking quickly after a fumble recovery, the Spartans connected on a 57-yard pass from Ronsman to Chris VanderWielen to shock the Raider faithful and put L-C ahead 17-7 with 6:02 left in the third quarter.

Momentum would change back to Two Rivers late in the third quarter as Schoenebeck had his 26-yard field goal attempt blocked.  The Raiders would drive down and score on a ten-yard run by Chase Matthias to cut the Spartan lead to 17-14 with 10:46 left in the game.  The Raiders would then take the lead with 6:24 left on a 41-yard scamper by Matthias to make it 21-17 Two Rivers.

The Spartan responded with a 65-yard drive in just over two minutes, capped off with a sensational 25-yard touchdown reception by Schoenebeck, who made an incredible catch in the end zone over a defender.  That made the score 24-21 and set up the dramatic ending with just 4:06 left in the fourth quarter.

The Spartan defense preserved the win with back-to-back sacks of Klinkner by Braeden Schley and Brayden Mueller.  Ronsman then sealed the game by converting on a fourth-and-four with just over a minute to go in Raider territory.

Luxemburg-Casco (11-1) will now play Catholic Memorial next Friday night in the State Semi-final at a neutral site to be determined.

The pregame is set for 6:45 p.m. on 96.7 WBDK and the kick-off is set for 7 p.m.  Paul Schmitt and Eric Fischer will have the play-by-play of the game which will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will travel to Two Rivers to face the undefeated Raiders in a WIAA Division 4 Level 3 playoff Friday night.

The #2 seeded Spartans (10-1) are coming off a dominating performance in the second round with a 41-0 win over Kiel last Friday.

Two Rivers (11-0) finished first in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference and blanked Campbellsport 35-0 last week.

Senior quarterback Max Ronsman leads the Spartans with 1145 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns while tossing 9 passes for scores.

Raider quarterback Justin Klinker has tossed 24 touchdowns with only two interceptions this season while throwing for over 1800 yards.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans’ girls' volleyball team placed numerous players on the all-conference team in the North Eastern Conference this season.  Freshman outside hitter Aubrey Frey made unanimous First Team All-NEC, while Senior libero Payton Kaminski and Sophomore setter Alayna Deprez claimed Second Team.  Other Spartans who received Honorable Mention were Senior, middle blocker Miranda Schmidt, Senior, opposite Jacinda Bennett, and Junior, middle blocker Ella Vander Velden. 

The Spartans finished with a 33-11 overall record and 8-1 in the NEC.
