Spartans cruise to 52-13 win over Oconto Falls on WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans dominated the Oconto Falls Panthers 52-13 Friday night in a North Eastern Conference football game in Oconto Falls.  The Spartans scored on their fourth play from scrimmage on a 51-yard run by Matt Cravillion and never looked back.  L-C scored five touchdowns in the second quarter and took a commanding 49-0 lead into halftime.  Cravillion ran for three scores and passed for two others as the senior had a huge night.  He finished with 107 yards rushing on 12 carries all in the first half.  Running back Reece Worachek added two rushing scores.

John Larson kicked a 26-yard field goal in the third quarter to finish the scoring for the Spartans.

The Panthers (0-6, 0-6 overall) could only manage two fourth-quarter scores to prevent a shutout.

L-C Soccer Club bounces back

Luxemburg-Casco soccer had a rough Tuesday at Sturgeon Bay but they rebounded well Thursday afternoon at Wrightstown with a 5-0 win. The game's start time was moved up a half hour to avoid Packer football traffic. The early kickoff didn't seem to affect L-C. They were up 2-0 after the first half with goals by Derrick Davister and Cody Arendt. After the break, the Spartans kept pouring it on. Griffin Saldana netted a goal in the 61st minute and Carter Sewell scored twice. Sewell's first was on the PK, his second in the 70th minute.

High School Sports Trivia Contest Question of the day - 9-26-19

Thursday's trivia question is, "Spencer Thiry had the top time in Luxemburg-Casco's first cross country meet this season. Who was the fastest on the girls' side in that race at Two Rivers?"

You can find this question in the DoorCountyDailyNews.com E-paper. If you answer correctly through the E-paper, you have an opportunity to win a $25 certificate to The Rendezvous.

L-C's Joniaux bridges wrestling season with cross country

The road to Madison for wrestling actually begins on the cross country course for Luxemburg-Casco's Lucas Joniaux. A three-time state medalist on the mat, Joniaux joined the cross country team as a sophomore to build up endurance for wrestling. Joniaux, who has cracked the 20-minute mark twice this season on 5K courses, says there are some similarities between wrestling and cross country.

Luxemburg-Casco's cross country teams head to Mishicot on Thursday for the Jim Bremser Invitational beginning at 3:30 p.m. before competing next Thursday in Pulaski.

Spartan volleyball sweeps Wrightstown

Luxemburg-Casco volleyball hosted Wrightstown on Tuesday and swept them three sets to none to pick up their third conference win. The first set was a breeze for the Spartans winning 25-8 but the final two sets were more of a struggle. They took them 26-24 and 25-20. Bekah Day had 31 assists and 3 aces. Grace Holschuh led the Spartans with 12 kills and Kenzie Hanson added eight kills and three aces. Alli Routhieaux had a big match with 14 digs and three aces.

Spartans soccer rough game at Sturgeon Bay

Luxemburg-Casco soccer couldn't match Sturgeon Bay's level of play on Tuesday and came away with an 8-0 road loss. The Clippers started scoring early and often and led 5-0 at halftime. The loss doesn't hurt the Spartans too much in the standings as it was a non-conference game. L-C is 2-0 in the North Eastern Conference and will play a conference matchup on Thursday at Wrightstown. That match will begin at 4:30 PM.

Spartans rollover Truckers 48-13 on WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans ran over the Clintonville Truckers 48-13 in Luxemburg Friday night in a North Eastern Conference football game.  The Spartans scored on their first offensive play with a 50 yard run by quarterback Matt Cravillion.  Clintonville did tie up the score with a 7:45 left in the first quarter on an 8-yard option run by Hunter Allender.  Luxemburg-Casco tallied three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 28-7 lead into halftime.

After intermission, Running back Reese Worachek scored one of his three touchdowns on a nine-yard run with 4:22 left in the third quarter to give the Spartans a 35-7 lead.  Worachek finished with a game-high 178 yards in rushing on 20 carries while Cravillion added 81 yards rushing while throwing for 73 yards and two touchdowns.

Luxemburg-Casco volleyball wants 2017 success

Luxemburg-Casco volleyball has a solid 16-8 overall record so far this season and 2-1 in the North Eastern Conference. The Spartans would like to match the success that the 2017 team had when they made it all the way to the state championship game. That squad finished at 36-7 overall and undefeated in the conference. L-C knocked off Merrill in the state semi-final game and then lost a very close championship match to Lakeside Lutheran.
