Spartans fall to Foxes 21-19 on WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans rallied late but came up just short losing to the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes 21-19 in a North Eastern Conference game Friday night in Appleton.  The Foxes scored two early touchdowns in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead.  The Spartans responded with a 71 yard run by Reese Worachek before the Foxes scored with 4 minutes in the half to take a 21-7 lead into halftime.

The Spartans took advantage of turnovers and breaks in the second half to score on a halfback option pass from Jonas Otradovec to quarterback Matt Cravillion.  Then with 10:59 left in the fourth quarter, Cravillion scored from one yard out to close within 21-19.  Worachek was denied on the two-point conversion that proved to be the difference.

The Spartans had two chances near the end but Fox Valley Lutheran prevailed.  A holding penalty called back a Woracheck touchdown run midway through the 4th quarter and the Spartans turned the ball over on downs after advancing near midfield in the final seconds after taking over at their own 8-yard line with one minute to play.

Spartans were led by Worcheck who gained 207 yards on 20 carries and the one score.

Luxemburg-Casco (0-1, 0-2 overall) will play Marinette next Friday in their home opener on Veterans and Family Night.  The game will be on WBDK 96.7FM with the pregame at 6:30 pm.  Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will be on the call for the game that will also be streamed on DoorCountyDailyNews.com.
