Spartan girls fall to Notre Dame in sectional 54-40 on WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco girls basketball season came to an end Thursday night as the Notre Dame Tritons prevailed with a 54-40 victory in a WIAA Division 2 sectional semi-final at Ashwaubenon High School.

The Spartans struggled offensively and were held to a season-low 14 points in the first half as Notre Dame used a slow, methodical offense to keep the Spartans out-of-sync most of the night. The Spartans trailed by six at halftime and were able to close within two points midway through the second half but the Tritons hit key shots and dominated the offensive boards to pull away late.

Georgia Gregoire led Notre Dame with 19 points while Charley Apple finished with 15 including some key shots when the Spartans made a run.  Cassie Schiltz led the Spartans with 19 points and finished her career with a school record 1980 points.  Jenna Jorgenson added 13 points, all in the second half, but it was not enough as the Spartans finish the season 20-5.

Notre Dame (15-9) will now play for the sectional championship and a chance to go to state on Saturday as they will play Beaver Dam in Kaukauna at 1pm.
