Luxemburg-Casco was down just six at halftime against Pulaski, 21-16, but the girls couldn't maintain the pace they kept in the first half and saw the game pull out of reach in a 65-37 loss.

Off the bench, Alana Mrotek and Karsyn Walczyk led the Spartan scoring, combining for 19 points with both having a strong second half.

Spartans conquer Trojans at Kress on 104.1 WRLU

Luxemburg Casco ended 2025 with a big win at the Kress Center, taking down Green Bay Southwest by a score of 68-50 in the Shawano Hoops Holiday Classic, as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

The Spartans got out to an early lead courtesy of four points from Mason Burmeister.  Brayden Duescher also made the most out of a starting opportunity, scoring six first half points, including a thunderous dunk in transition to help build the LC lead.  As the half went on, the Spartans would build a lead by using their size and quickness to get in the paint, only for Green Bay Southwest to hit a long range shot to keep the score close.  The Spartans built their lead as high as 10 points late in the opening period, until Debron Danforth hit a 3 at the halftime buzzer to close the score to 31-24 at the break.

Luxemburg Casco opened the second half on a 9-2, prompting a Trojans timeout.   Green Bay Southwest used the timeout to put on a press, and stormed back on an 8-0 run to close the gap to 40-34 near the midway point of the half.  From there though, it was all Spartans.  Mason Trimberger built on a big first half to help lead LC to victory, scoring a game high 22 points en route to the win.  Ethan Ropson, coming off a career high 16 point game against Algoma, added 13 points, with Burneister totaling 12 points.  Danforth led the Trojans with 14 points, most of which came from behind the arc, with Noah Schroeder adding 13, and John Paul Guinter scoring 11 points to round out Green Bay Southwest’s double digit scorers.

Luxemburg Casco will start the new calendar year with a matchup against Southern Door on Friday, January 2nd that will be broadcasted on U102.1.

Green Bay Southwest comes into the game with a 1-6 record, dropping their last 6 games after a season opening 54-45 win over Sevastopol. The Fighting Trojans will be coming in to the game on short rest, losing to Shawano yesterday in the first day of the event.

Spartan boys' wrestling hitting the road taking on Barbs

The Luxemburg-Casco boys’ wrestling team is hitting the road this Monday as they are heading to Illinois to take on dozens of schools at the DeKalb Barbs. The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team secured several victories at the recent Kansas City Stampede, even though they were ultimately eliminated from the main bracket. Carson Neubert achieved the deepest run of any Spartan wrestler, advancing to the consolation bracket quarterfinals. Additionally, multiple Spartans managed to earn several wins before being relegated to the Hard Luck Tournament.

Traveling approximately 1,750 for two wrestling tournaments might seem crazy, but head coach Chas Treml believes there are some great opportunities for his team to improve and battle some tactics they may not be used to seeing if they stuck to just local tournaments.

The medals came in the Hard Luck Brackets of the Kansas City Stampede with Coy Anderson (106, 3rd), Calvin Henderson (215, 2nd), Linkin Bastien (150, 2nd), Josiah Bastien (165, 1st), and Logan Ellwanger (175, 2nd) all finishing in the top three.

Spartans wrestlers like father, like son

When it comes to a sport like wrestling, the apples do not fall far from the tree.

Joseph Jeanquart and Calvin Henderson are two of Luxemburg-Casco's top wrestlers on a squad stacked with talent. Jeanquart is coming off of a sophomore campaign where he finished in sixth place at the WIAA Individual State Tournament while Henderson came up just short of Madison in the Fond du Lac Sectional. The pair recently won the Battle on the Bay and came away from last weekend's KC Stampede Tournament with multiple victories.

For Jeanquart, he is reminded of his lineage every time he walks into the wrestling room. His dad Jamie was a part of the 1992 Luxemburg-Casco team that won the first team state championship in school history. Being the latest in his family in the Spartans wrestling program means a lot to Jeanquart.

For Henderson, his father Adam brings his own impressive high school wrestling resume from Iowa matside as he cheers him on. He believes his dad's work ethic has made him a better wrestler.

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team are off until Monday and Tuesday when they travel to Dekalb, Ill. for a tournament.

Spartans girls take down Wolves

The Luxemburg-Casco girls basketball team clamped down on Algoma and got timely shooting from Brianna Bray as they went on to win the game 45-27.

The Spartans jumped out to a 29-15 halftime lead behind five first-half three-pointers, three of which coming from Bray. She would add on two more from behind the arc en route to a 23-point evening to lead all scorers. Alana Mrotek and Chloe Host each chipped in six points in the win. For the Wolves, Claire Gerdmann scored seven first-half points, but was held to just a free throw in the second half as she matched Jadyn Nellis for a team-high eight points. Theresa Gerdmann added six points and Sadie Rikkola pitched in five points in the Wolves' loss.

Both teams are out of action until December 30th when the Spartans battle Pulaski at home at 5:30 p.m. while the Wolves travel to Freedom for a 7 p.m. tip.

Wolves and Spartans set for battle on 104.1 WRLU

Two of the top area teams are set for battle Monday night, as Algoma and Luxemburg Casco face off on 104.1 WRLU.

Luxemburg Casco is off to one of its best starts in recent years, starting the 2025-26 season with a 3-2 record.  The Spartans won three in a row before dropping their last contest to Denmark last Thursday. Jacob Coisman leads LC into battle, averaging 10.8 points per game, with Mason Burmeister, Bryce Piesler, and Mason Trimberger adding over 9 points a game each.

Algoma comes in at 4-1 on the young season,  including a 60-49 win over Southern Door last Thursday.  Parker Lischka leads the Wolves with 24.6 points per game, and is knocking on the door of history.  Lischka is 9 points away from becoming Algoma High School, a record currently held by Carter Zimmerman, and his 1,299 points.  Lischka moved into 2nd, passing Mark Wautlet in Algoma’s lone loss of the season, a 67-64 defeat at the hands of the Peshtigo Bulldogs. The Wolves also get 22.6 points per game from fellow senior Breadan Leist.

Algoma and Luxemburg Casco’s boys and girls basketball programs will participate in a double header, with broadcast airing the boys game. Our coverage starts at 5:30, with tipoff set for 5:45pm.  The girls contest will follow 15 minutes after the conclusion of the boys game.  Eric Fischer and Ramsay Thompson will have the call on 104.1 WRLU.

Spartans wrestlers make the most of their Kansas City trip

Despite getting knocked out of the big bracket, the Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team still captured plenty of wins while in town for the Kansas City Stampede Wrestling Tournament.

In the normal bracket, Carson Neubert advanced the furthest in the bracket of any Spartans wrestler before bowing out in the consolation bracket as he reached the quarterfinals. Several wrestlers were able to secure multiple wins before eventually getting knocked down to the Hard Luck Tournament.

The Spartans pulled ahead by seven at one point in the first half, but the margin was trimmed to four, 23–19, at halftime. In the second half, the lead changed hands multiple times, and Waupaca tied it at 41 before L-C grabbed the lead for good.

Luxemburg-Casco expanded its lead to 10 points as the foul battle began before a last-second three brought the score closer, setting the final at 51–44.

Spartans continue winning ways defeat Jags at home

Luxemburg-Casco girls grabbed their second win of the season getting back on track after a tough opening run. The Spartans (2-3) downed the Jaguars (0-5) at home 62-31.

A 22-point first half lead, 33-11, gave the Spartans comfortability to run the second half at their own pace as they started to slow it down moderately, but kept the offense running efficiently.

Brianna Bray sank four three-pointers en route to a game-high 19 points for the Spartans. Sienna Blohowiak added 13 and Alayna Heurkens chipped in nine points in the Spartans win. The Jaguars were led in scoring by Laylah Matchopatowell, who scored 10 points.

L-C will get a day of rest before traveling to face Waupaca Thursday for a chance to even up their record after an 0-3 start to the season.

Spartans girls battle Jags at home

The Luxemburg-Casco girls basketball team will start their week at home on Tuesday with a non-conference matchup against the Ashwaubenon Jaguars.

She wasn’t alone as Chloe Host added 9, Sienna Blohowiak grabbed 8, and Brianna Bray topped the quad off with 7 as the Spartans spread the floor and shared the ball well all night.

The Jaguars are looking for their first win of the season in their fifth game of the season. Three of their four losses have been by more than 20 points. Sophia Remiker leads the Jaguars in scoring with just over 10 ppg.

Spartans Conquer Mustangs in Battle of LCs on 104.1 WRLU

Round 1 of the Battle of the LCs goes to the Spartans, as Luxemburg-Casco won a thriller in the final seconds, taking down Little Chute 59–57, as heard on 104.1 WRLU on Thursday night.

Bryce Piesler and Trevor Verhagen exchanged baskets in the early going as the lead seesawed between the LCs, with neither team able to pull away. Little Chute’s aggressive defense forced Luxemburg-Casco to be patient, often resulting in the guards swinging the ball around the top of the key in search of a gap in the Mustangs’ zone. The Spartans’ patience paid off, as they made five first-half three-pointers, including three from Piesler. After a back-and-forth first half, one of those deep Piesler threes in the waning moments put Luxemburg-Casco ahead at the break, 24–17.

Piesler’s hot hand carried into the second half as the Spartans built the lead as high as 15 points, with Little Chute only able to score from the free-throw line. Still, the Mustangs got to the charity stripe early and often, earning the bonus quickly in the half. Combined with tenacious defense, Little Chute chipped away at the deficit, eventually tying the contest at 53–53. The Mustangs made 15 of 22 free throws in the second half. Luxemburg-Casco, however, answered with clutch free throws of their own down the stretch, as the Mustangs’ aggressive defense also sent the Spartans to the line frequently. Luxemburg-Casco finished 12 of 18 from the stripe, with Mason Burmeister hitting 10 of 13 to steady the Spartans.

With the game tied in the final minute, Coach Jandrin used his final timeout with 28 seconds remaining and drew up a play for a potential game-winner. With one second on the clock, Eli Derenne caught a pass on the block and hit the go-ahead layup, prompting a Little Chute timeout. Out of the stoppage, Verhagen launched a half-court pass to Reece Joten, whose shot was just inches off line and clanked off the rim, giving the Spartans a hard-fought victory.

Piesler led all scorers with 20 points, with Jacob Coisman adding 13 and Burmeister’s 10 rounding out the double-digit scorers for Luxemburg-Casco. For Little Chute, Verhagen led the way with 19 points, joined in double figures by Jaden Hermsen with 11.

Up next for the Spartans is a week off from game action before their home opener on Friday, December 12, against Waupaca.

Battle of the LCs renews on 104.1 WRLU

Luxemburg Casco boys basketball will be tasked with another tough road test, when it travels to the Fox Valley on Thursday evening to play the Little Chute Mustangs in the Battle of the LCs. You’ll be able to hear the contest on 104.1 WRLU.

The Spartans dropped their season opener on Tuesday to perennial powerhouse Pulaski, falling by a score of 76-56. Jacob Coisman paced Luxemburg Casco with 15 points in the contest, while Mason Trimberger added 12, and Bryce Piesler added 10 points.

Little Chute finished second in the North Eastern Conference a season ago, reaching the Sectional Finals before falling to NEC foe Freedom. Little Chute dropped their season opener earlier this week, falling to Laconia 60-51 on Monday.  The Mustangs were led by  Trevor Verhagen’s 15 points, and 11 from Reece Joten.

Pregame coverage will start at 6:45 pm, with tipoff slated for 7:00 pm.  Eric Fischer has the call on 104.1 WRLU and worldwide on the NEW Radio Sports Network.

Spartans' boys can't overcome Pulaski defense

Luxemburg-Casco struggled to find a rhythm Tuesday night against a tough Pulaski defense anchored by a full-court press. Early misfires put the Spartans in a quick 12-point hole, and they never fully recovered in a 76-56 loss.

In a game defined by runs on both sides, Pulaski’s pressure held strong. L-C trailed 45-24 at the break despite flashes of energy.

The Spartans made a push midway through the second half with a more aggressive offensive attack, but the gap was too large to close and the Red Raiders stayed firmly in control.

L-C will have a day to regroup before hitting the road again, this time heading to Little Chute for a 7 p.m. start Thursday.

Spartans girls basketball sparked by strong defense

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans (1-3) earned their first win of the season Tuesday night, locking down Little Chute (2-1) with a dominant defensive performance in a 47-23 victory.

L-C set the tone early, holding the Mustangs to just seven total points in the first half while building a 26-7 lead. The Spartans stayed disciplined defensively allowing them to create turnovers and maintain momentum.

On the offensive end, Alayna Deprez powered the Spartans with 14 points, knocking down seven field goals. She wasn’t alone as Chloe Host added 9, Sienna Blohowiak grabbed 8, and Brianna Bray topped the quad off with 7 as the Spartans spread the floor and shared the ball well all night.

Little Chute’s best push came in the second half, fueled by Lauren Vosters’ 9 points, but the Mustangs never cut the gap to single digits. Luxemburg-Casco kept the pressure on, stayed clean defensively, and avoided the turnovers that have hurt them early in the year.

With their first win down, the Spartans will look to build on the momentum as they continue the early season games. They'll get a break though, next facing Waupaca December 11th at 7 p.m.
