Spartans boogie past Thunder for Homecoming win on 104.1 WRLU

Luxemburg Casco found the endzone early and often, as the Spartans rolled past Seymour for a 42-6 win on its Homecoming game, as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

Eli Derenne continued a sensational season, scoring his first of three touchdowns on the third play of the game, scampering to the end zone from 59 yards out.  The Spartans defense forced a punt and marched down the field once again. This time Derenne connected with Joey Jeanquart through the air, with Jeanquart making a pair of Thunder defenders to score from 11 yards out.  Luxemburg Casco's defense forced a fumbled on Seymour's ensuing drive, taking over deep in Thunder territory. Moments later, Ben Klass punched in his first touchdown of the evening from 1 yard out in the closing seconds of the opening quarter to go up 21-0. Another defensive stop led to another Seymour punt, followed by Derenne's second score of the evening, this time for 33 yards. The Luxemburg Casco defense was able to force yet another punt, this time deep into Spartans territory, with the offense taking over at their own 10. LC got a couple big plays, methodically going down the field, and scoring on another Klass 1 yard touchdown.  Wyatt Bailey was perfect on PAT kicks, giving the Spartans a 35-0 lead, and running clock for the remainder of the contest. Luxemburg Casco took this score into the halftime Homecoming festivities which you can see below.

With running clock for the entirety of the second half, the game moved quick. Seymour started the half with the ball, and was putting together its best drive of the game but a fumble got the Thunder backed up behind the chains and ultimately punting.  The Spartans offense kept the starters out for one more drive, capped off with Derenne completing the hat trick with a 20 yard score.  Seymour would get find the endzone, with Greg Salzman rushing from 28 yards out against the Spartans reserves late in the 4th.

Luxemburg Casco head coach Neil Seering joined the broadcast, complimenting his team's efforts to put together a complete game and crediting the efforts of the lineman and the "Brotherhood of Belief"

Spartans set to square against Seymour on 104.1 WRLU

Homecoming week is here for Luxemburg-Casco, and the Spartans will host the Seymour Thunder in a crossover game between the Northeastern Conference and the Bay Conference, and we'll have the action on 104.1 WRLU.

Luxemburg-Casco got back above .500 last week, after taking down the Wrightstown Tigers 24-6.  Eli Derenne starred once again for the Spartans, rushing for 135 yards and a score, and throwing for 90 yards and an additional touchdown. Ben Klass also exceeded the century mark with 106 yards and a touchdown carry.

Seymour comes into the contest at 3-2, following a 42-6 defeat at the hands of Xavier.  Thunder running back Greg Salzman was held in check, limited to just 74 yards in the contest, but did throw for Seymour's lone touchdown, a 7-yard strike to Owen Linzmeyer on the team's lone completed pass of the game (per Bound WI) on a rainy Friday in the Fox Valley.  Salzman has been one of the top rushing threats, entering the game 5th in Division 4 with 702 yards for the season.

Eric Fischer and Ramsay Thompson will have the call, with pregame coverage set to begin at 6:45, with kickoff to follow at 7:00 pm.

DuChateau had a 30-second margin of victory to win the girls' race with a time of 19:03, with Peshtigo's Berkeley Chaltry, Notre Dame's Anna Miller, and Bay Port's Eloise Holman trailing her. Gretta Annoye ran a time of 21:50 to help the Spartans to a 3rd-place finish behind Bay Port and Notre Dame.

The Spartans won the match 25-11, 25-16, 25-17 to improve to 14-11 overall and 5-0 in the NEC.

The Spartans were led by Claire Schleis (14 assists, 6 kills, and 6 digs), Stella Schleis (9 assists and 8 digs), Aubrey Frey (16 kills and 6 digs), Ali Jansen (6 kills), and Jenna Annoye (16 digs and 4 aces).

Even with a week of distractions, head coach Jeff Frey was happy his squad got a good win against a conference opponent. "I am proud of the focus our girls showed this week with so much going on with homecoming; to get two wins and remain undefeated in conference was big."

Jenna Annoye finished with 15 digs and eight aces; Ali Jansen added eight kills; and Stella Schleis recorded 12 assists and five aces.

The Mustangs enter the match with a similar 13-9 overall record and a 2-1 NEC mark, with the blemish coming against the Irish last week. They split their four matches in tournament play over the weekend.

Spartans soccer battles Ripon at home

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team returns to its home pitch on Thursday night when they battle Ripon under the lights.

The Spartans broke a three-match skid on Tuesday with a 1-0 win over Waupaca. Dylan Roberts proved to be the difference in the match as he buried the feed from Emerson Castro for the lone goal in the match. Carson Koller registered his third clean sheet of the season in the victory. The Spartans are now 5-4 on the season.

The Tigers enter the matchup 10-2 on the year and have won their last five matches. It is a high-powered offense that has scored nine goals three times in their last five matches and has a goal differential of +67. A big reason is Devin Donovan, who has scored 51 of the Tigers' 77 goals.

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

The Spartans defeated Waupaca 1-0 on the road, getting back in the win column after being outscored 12-1 during their previous three matches.

Dylan Roberts proved to be the difference in the match as he buried the feed from Emerson Castro for the lone goal in the match. Carson Koller registered his third clean sheet of the season in the victory.

The Spartans now turn their attention to another test with Ripon coming to town on Thursday.

Spartans soccer head to Waupaca for road NEC match

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team looks to snap a three-game skid on Tuesday when they travel to Waupaca to battle the Comets.

The Spartans have been outscored 12-1 during their losing streak that has featured two ranked opponents. Rain likely canceled a scheduled match on Saturday against #10 Edgewood in Port Washington. Carson Koller made nine saves in the Spartans' last match, which was a 5-0 defeat to Sturgeon Bay.

The Comets are 2-5-2 and mired in their own five-match winless skid that has them searching for their first goal since a 2-2 draw against Marinette.

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

Charger Classic a measuring stick for Spartans volleyball

The Charger Classic offered a tough challenge for the Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team as they took 13th place during their trip to the Milwaukee area over the weekend.

The Spartans managed just one win in five tries, losing to DSHA   7-25, 21-25 and West Bend West 25-12, 19-25, 11-15 while topping Kettle Moraine 25-19, 25-23 in pool play. They lost their crossover match to Arrowhead 13-25, 8-15 and their silver bracket match to Xavier 15-25, 23-25.

Leading the way for the Spartans were Claire Schleis (45 assists, 18 kills, 20 digs), Stella Schleis (27 assists, 24 digs), Aubrey Frey (46 kills, 25 digs), and Jenna Annoye (25 digs, 4 aces)

Head coach Jeff Frey said afterwards that the tournament is a good measuring stick for where the team needs to be for the second half of the season. "Three of our losses were to Top 5 teams in D1 and D2," Frey said. "We played well in spurts and learned a lot about ourselves. We just need to work on being more consistent."

Spartans power past Tigers in soggy NEC win on 104.1 WRLU

Luxemburg Casco outlasted Wrightstown and the elements, for a rain soaked, 24-6 win that was heard on 104.1 WRLU.

The Spartans took the opening possession and worked its way down the field, taking up over 8 minutes of the 1st quarter, but couldn't find the end zone. A botched snap on 4th and goal gave the ball to the Tigers inside their own 5.  Wrightstown would be forced to punt, and the Spartans went down the field again.  Once again though, LC couldn't find pay dirt, as Wyatt Bailey attempted a 30 yard field goal that had the distance but was off line. The Spartans defense came up with another stop, and got a pair of late down conversions to keep the drive going, before Ben Klass got into the end zone on a 6 yard carry late in the second quarter. Luxemburg Casco would take the 7-0 lead into the halftime break.

After a quick stop by the defense to open the half, Eli Derenne connected with Trenton Price for a 32 yard touchdown pass. Another stop by the defense gave Luxemburg Casco an opportunity to extend the lead, doing so on a 27 yard field goal by Wyatt Bailey to go up 17-0.  Wrightstown attempted to put together a comeback, with Logan Kittoe getting the Tigers on the board with a 9 yard score. Lane Ledvina blocked the PAT attempt, keeping the score at 17-6.  Wrightstown attempted an onside kick, but Derenne was able to fall on it. Derenne put the finishing touches on the game with a 48 yard touchdown run with another Bailey PAT kick to put the game away 24-6. The Spartans defense forced one last punt and was able to kneel out the clock.

Luxemburg Casco will look to make it two in a row next week, hosting Seymour in a cross conference matchup for its homecoming game. The Thunder will come in, looking to get back in the win column after a 42-6 thrashing at the hands of Xavier.  We will have that game on 104.1 WRLU.

Focus on the team there for Spartans' Frey

For Luxemburg-Casco Outside Hitter Aubrey Frey, there's not many boxes she needs to check off this season as an individual, but there is one big goal in mind for this season: a state title.

Frey has been a mainstay on All-NEC, All-Region, and All-State lists for the majority of her Spartans career. At last year's Fall Sports Preview at the Rendezvous of Luxemburg, her teammates announced that she had committed to play at Stephen F. Austin University for her college volleyball career. If there are records she needs to break, she already has or it doesn't matter to her. With the individual accomplishments set aside, holding up the golden ball at the Resch Center is what matters to Frey.

The Spartans open the tournament against volleyball powerhouse Divine Angels at 4 p.m. and Kettle Moraine at 7 p.m. before returning to action at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Spartans fall in Battle of LCs on 104.1 WRLU

A game that was close for three and a half quarters got out of hand quickly late in the 4th quarter as Little Chute pulled away late to retain the traveling trophy in the Battle of the LCs, taking down Luxemburg Casco 49-14 as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

After honoring a pair of veterans, and three Gold Star families, the Spartans would get the opening kickoff but were forced to punt on its opening drive. On its opening possession, Little Chute drove down the field, capping off its opening drive with a 1 yard touchdown run by Jaden Hermsen. The Mustangs would go for 2, but were turned away. Luxemburg Casco took advantage, riding the momentum and going down the field, finishing the drive when Eli Derenne connected with Joey Jeanquart for a 4 yard touchdown run.  Wyatt Bailey's point after kick was good, giving the Spartans a 7-6 lead.  Early in the 2nd, Little Chute went back in front on another 1 yard sneak by Hermsen, but were once again denied on the 2 point conversion.  The two teams exchanged empty possessions over the remainder of the half with the Mustangs holding the 12-7 lead into the break.

Little Chute got the opening kickoff of the second half but fumbled near midfield, giving the ball back to the Spartans with excellent field position.  Luxemburg Casco marched down the field but were turned away on 4th and goal with an opportunity to take the lead.  Instead, Little Chute was able to extend its lead when Charlie VandenHeuval found the endzone on a 5 yard rush.  The Mustangs converted on the 2 point conversion, holding a 20-7 lead that it would take into the 4th quarter.  Early in the 4th, Tyler Hietpas gave Little Chute a three possession lead when he scored an 11 yard touchdown and converted another two point conversion.  Down but not out, the Spartans went down the field with Ben Klass finding the endzone to cut the deficit in half.  Luxemburg Casco attempted an onside kick, but just missed the opportunity to recover it, giving the Mustangs excellent field position. Reece Joten found the endzone shortly after from 8 yards out. With one last gasp, the Spartans tried to mount a comeback but Mason Schneider intercepted a Derenne pass and took it to the endzone to put the game out of reach.  The Mustangs defense was able to score again against the Spartans reserves after a fumble to close out scoring.

After the game we caught up with Spartans coach Neil Seering, who reflected on a tough loss but was also thankful for the community showing up to honor the areas veterans on the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

Spartans look to get back in win column against Kohler on 104.1 WRLU

Luxemburg Casco came up short against Kewaunee last week, but will look to get back to its winning ways with the start of North Eastern Conference play, when the Spartans travel south to face Kohler/Sheboygan Christian/Lutheran, which will be heard on 104.1 WRLU.

The Spartans were able to move the ball throughout the game against Kewaunee, but were held to one score, courtesy of a Ben Klass 1-yard touchdown.  This was a stark contrast to LC's opening contest, which saw the Spartans put up 37 points, behind Eli Derenne's 434 yards of total offense.  Despite being stifled by the Storm, Derenne still ranks among the top passers and rushers in all of Division 3.

Kohler is new to the North Eastern Conference, coming over from the Eastern Conference. The Blue Bombers have already matched their win total from a season ago, getting out to a 2-0 record after a 28-6 win over Reedsville to start the season and a 30-14 win over Oostburg last week. Quarterback Aiden Oldenhoff has led the way offensively, completing 32 of 44 passes so far, for 381 yards, 5 touchdowns, and just 1 interception.  Sophomore running back Maxwell Sewacki leads the ground game with 201 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Spartans volleyball sweeps Tigers

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team began their 2026 NEC slate much like they ended the conference season last year: with a win.

Head coach Jeff Frey left the match impressed by Tigers, especially after the Spartans needed an extra point to secure the sweep. "It was a really good high school volleyball match, and I give a ton of credit to Wrightstown," Frey said. "They came into a tough environment, our fans were great tonight, and they competed hard and made us work for everything.  Proud of the resilience our girls showed and the grit to find a way to win tonight."

While the team returns many contributors from last year's state semi-final squad, they did graduate several others, including All-State team members Rylan Kaminski and Alayna Deprez.
