Hanson leads honor roll for L-C Softball

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team had plenty of noteworthy performers on their team that ended with a regional championship and a sectional loss to eventual state champion Freedom.

 

Kylie Hanson was 1st Team All-District.

 

The Spartans had a number of players receive All Conference Recognition! They are as follows:

 

1st Team All NEC:

Pitcher: Rebecca Kroll, Unanimous

Infield: Kylie Hanson 

Outfield: Grace Kahr

Designated Player: Josie Dorner

 

2nd Team All NEC:

Catcher: Mady Bouche 

Outfield: Anna Vandermause

 

Honorable Mention NEC:

Infield: Lauren Adams

Utility Player: Emily Jandrin

 

Also, as voted upon by Team members, the following ladies were chosen for these Team Honors:

Spartans Trap places 5th, puts six on All-State team

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans Trap Team had a successful run at the Wisconsin State High School Clay Target League State Tournament over the weekend.

 

The team took fifth place overall according to Dale Simonar with Trey Vincent (97), Cole Anderson (96), Charlie Simonar (96), Jayden Stein (95) , and Garrett Simonar (95) shooting of 479 clay targets out of 500.

 

Garrett Simonar, Jacob DeGrave, Cole Anderson, Caleb Delebreau, Brandon Kratz, and Charlie Simonar earned All-State Honors for having the best averages during the spring season.

Spartans' Deprez piles up state awards

Luxemburg-Casco baseball player Owen Deprez piled up a number of recognitions over the last week after his career came to a close earlier this month.

 

Deprez earned Division 2 district Player of the Year, All-NEC 1st Team pitcher, All State Baseball, and All-Academic honors following his successful season in which he pitched a perfect game in his playoff matchup against Sturgeon Bay. 

 

Deprez will learn what All-State roster he will appear on later this week. 

 

The WBCA’s North East District, which includes the Big East, Eastern Wisconsin, Fox Valley Association, Fox River Classic, Northeastern, Packerland Conferences. For a player to be chosen, he must be nominated by his head coach, who must be a member of the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association.

Three Lady Spartans to participate in WBCA All-Star Game

Lauren Adams, Taylor Thiry, and Taylor Bredael-Schmidt will join forces one last time later this month for the WBCA All-Star Game.

 

Adams and Thiry will play in the Division 2 game on June 29th at Justagame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells for the North squad. Bredael-Schmidt will be on the coaching staff for the same team. 

 

All three are raising funds for the MACC Fund. (Midwest Athletes against Childhood Cancer) and Camp Wawbeek of Wisconsin Dells as a part of their commitment to the game. You can contribute to their cause by clicking their name below.

Spartans soccer's season ends in Winneconne

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans soccer could not survive the offensive onslaught from Winneconne as they lost their tournament opener 10-0 Thursday.

 

The Wolves ran away with the game early as they scored six first-half goals against the Spartans. They would go on to tack on another four goals in the second half.

 

Jamie Wicinsky (1G, 5A) registered six points and Isabella Hardy (3G, 2A) collected five in the Wolves' victory. Holly Arens added two goals in the victory for Winneconne.

 

The Spartans' season ends with a 7-11-0 record.

Spartans' comeback falls just short in loss to Notre Dame on 104.1 WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans came up just short in a WIAA Division 2 baseball regional final Wednesday evening, falling to the Notre Dame Tritons 5-4.
 
The game started as a pitcher’s duel as Spartan Owen Deprez, and Triton Bruce Herman pitched four scoreless innings, with Deprez striking out eight batters.  Notre Dame then opened the scoring with three runs in the fifth inning on two hits. 

 
The Spartans responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Max Ronsman that scored Ryland Day.  


After both teams missed opportunities to score in the sixth inning, Notre Dame was able to add two more runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-1 lead.


The Spartans were able to mount a comeback bid in the bottom of the seventh when they loaded the bases with no one out.  After a run scored on a wild pitch, Peyton Mrotek doubled home two runs to pull the Spartans within one run before a strikeout ended the game.

 

Mrotek led the Spartan attack going 2/3 with 2 RBIs.  Blake Robillard and Day went 2/3, but the Spartans stranded eight runners in the loss.

 

Deprez took the loss, pitching 4 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out nine.  

 

Notre Dame will now travel to Seymour next Tuesday in a sectional semi-final game. 

Spartans edge Wrightstown with 4-3 comeback win, host Notre Dame in regional final on 104.1 WRLU today

The #2 seeded Luxemburg-Casco Spartans came back to beat the #3 seeded Wrightstown Tigers 4-3 in an exciting WIAA Division 2 regional semi-final baseball game the came down to the final out on Tuesday afternoon in Luxemburg. 

 

The Spartans fell behind in the fourth inning when Wrightstown scored three runs to take a 3-0 lead, but was able to get an RBI single by Ryland Day to close within two runs.  A huge sixth inning saw the Spartans load the bases on three consecutive singles and managed to manufacture three more runs to capture a 4-3 lead going into the top of the seventh.

 

 Ryan Routhieaux pitched 4 and 1/3 strong innings before giving way to Owen Deprez, who pitched 2 1/3 innings and picked up 4 strikeouts to keep the Tigers at bay.  Blake Robillard came in and threw one pitch and was able to get a fly out to centerfield to earn the save with two runners on base.

 

 The Spartans will now face Notre Dame in the regional final on Wednesday after the Tritons knocked off the #1 Freedom Irish 8-1in the other regional semi-final.

 

Paul Schmitt and Matt Piesler will have the call with the pregame set for 4 pm on 104.1 WRLU and streamed on New Radio Sports Network.  The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 pm from Fred Yagodinski Field at the Luxemburg-Casco Sports Complex.
