Spartans softball break through against Marines

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team had to wait until the fifth inning to finally crack the Marinette Marines, eventually breaking through with a 4-0 win.

The game was scoreless through 4.5 innings before Kacie Jorgenson started the rally with her double. A fielder's choice and a Kate Van Ess single made it 3-0 before the Spartans tallied one more run in the sixth on an error to make it 4-0.

Jorgenson ended the night with two hits and an RBI while Riley Westlund and Van Ess also had run-scoring base knocks. Van Ess earned the win from the circle, going six innings of two-hit, shutout ball.

Spartans baseball avenges loss to Vikings

The Luxemburg-Casco baseball team scored in five consecutive innings and still needed a late stand to hold off Denmark for Tuesday's 7-6 win.

It looked like it would be rinse and repeat for the Vikings early on as they scored three times in the opening inning, only to see the Spartans tally single runs in each of the first three innings. The Spartans broke the tie with two runs in the fourth inning, with Gavin Lax and Ethan Werner driving in runs. Eli Derenne and Carson Blohowiak would drive in their runs one inning later. Leading 7-3, the Spartans allowed the tying run to reach second base before finally putting the game away.

Derenne, Lax, and Noah Chervenka each collected two hits in the Spartans' win, with Derenne driving in two runs, while Lax, Landon Derenne, Werner, and Blohowiak also drove in runs.

The Spartans return to action on Thursday, playing Sturgeon Bay at home. Tim Kowols will have the call on 104.1 WRLU beginning at 4:15 p.m., and the pregame show will follow the first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

Spartans soccer tame Tigers

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team responded to a Wrightstown equalizer goal with three more of their own en route to a 4-1 win Tuesday night.

The Spartans waited for just four minutes for Casidee Jacobson to bury a pass by Emi Kuhn into the back of the net to make it 1-0. The Tigers tied the game just over 10 minutes later on a Carlie Verbeten free kick. The Spartans would wait until nearly halfway through the first half to get back onto the scoreboard with Jacobson returning the favor to Kuhn to make 2-1 in the 58th minute. Kuhn added another assist in the 62nd minute, finding Aaliyah Wallace for the third goal. Wallace registered an assist of her three minutes later, feeding Maggie Pravechek for the fourth goal. Ashley Fameree made three saves in the Spartans win.

Spartans baseball look to avenge 9-0 loss to Vikings Tuesday

The Luxemburg-Casco baseball team will need to bounce back quickly against Denmark after losing 9-0 on Monday.

The Vikings scored four runs in the first inning and five over the last two to secure the win. Their 10 hits included two doubles from Josh Gajeski and one from Eli Kapinos. The Spartans, meanwhile, were flummoxed by Cade Delarwelle, who held them to no runs on four hits while striking out 12. Carson Blohowiak, Reagan Doell, Ethan Werner, and Eli Derenne were the lone players with hits for the Spartans.

Game two shifts to Luxemburg-Casco on Tuesday with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Luxemburg-Casco track travels to Appleton for conference meet

The Luxemburg-Casco track team heads south for an NEC meet on Tuesday.

Clintonville, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, and Waupaca will also participate in the meet taking place at Fox Valley Lutheran beginning at 4 p.m.

In their last meet, the Spartan boys posted four event wins at the Freedom meet, including Cameron Dorner (long jump), Wyatt Bailey (high jump), Mason Trimburger (110m hurdles), and Kyan Lynts (1600m), to go along with more than a dozen top 3 finishes. Claire DuChateau won two events (1600m and 3200) to join Maria Morozov (300m hurdles) on top of the podium for the Spartan girls.

Spartans softball pounce on Panthers

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team started and ended their game at Oconto Falls with three runs in a 6-0 win over the Panthers.

In the first inning, it was Alayna Deprez's two-run single that was the biggest blow to give the Spartans an early 3-0 lead. The team would wait until the seventh to score again, grinding out runs on a fielder's choice, sacrifice bunt, and an error to make it 6-0. A RBI double by Ava Salscheider helped the Panthers prevent the shutout. Deprez and Erin Cherovsky each had two RBI while Emma Murphy was responsible for two of the team's six hits. Despite allowing 10 hits and punching out just two Panthers, Cherovsky earned the win on the mound, allowing just one run (1 ER) in a complete game effort.

The Spartans will be at home for a 6:15 p.m. first pitch against Marinette.

Spartans softball take advantage of Thunder errors in win

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team could only muster three hits, but six errors committed by Seymour paved the way to a 2-0 win on the road Thursday evening.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Spartans' Brianna Bray doubled in Alayna Deprez to make it 1-0. The Spartans added an insurance run in the seventh when the Thunder booted a ground ball hit by Rylan Kaminski. Erin Cherovsky earned the shutout complete game victory for the Spartans, scattering five hits while striking out seven.

Spartans soccer rip Tigers

Another brace for Emi Kuhn help the Luxemburg-Casco soccer team earn a win on the road 3-1 against Ripon Thursday night.

Aaliyah Wallace kept her scoring streak going as she took a Kuhn feed to open the scoring in the 10th minute. Kuhn registered her own goal one minute later thanks to a pass from Diem Bonness to make 2-0. The Tigers got one back six minutes later, but Kuhn extended the lead back out to two goals in the 24th minute, burying a pass from Reese Bandow into the back of the net.

Teagan Gunderson had a light night of work in the goalmouth for the Spartans, registering one save on two shots on target. Meanwhile, Dani Brewer made 11 saves for the Tigers.

Spartans baseball sweep Rockets

The Luxemburg-Casco baseball team made the most of its doubleheader on Tuesday, sweeping the matchups against Waupaca 5-2 and 1-0.

In the first game, the Spartans took advantage of six Rockets errors to secure the win. Ethan Derenne, Landon Derenne, and Jacob Coisman all registered RBI in the win with Ethan Derenne, Coisman, and Regan Doel securing the only hits. Jake Chervenka did not need much support as he mowed down 12 Rockets in six innings, allowing two runs (2 ER) on six hits along the way.

In the second game, an Ethan Derenne groundout drove in the lone run of the contest despite getting two hits from Noah Chervenka and the rest of the lineup collecting just three more. Luckily, Jacob Coisman had things covered on the mound, striking out 13 Rockets in the back end of the doubleheader, allowing no runs on two hits across six innings of work.

Spartans softball topple Irish

Crooked numbers in the third and sixth innings helped the Luxemburg-Casco softball team beat Freedom 8-0.

Rylan Kaminski's double opened the scoring in the third inning, with Kate Van Ess' single wrapping up the three-run frame. With a run between, the Spartans put up four runs late, thanks in part to run-scoring hits from Kacie Jorgenson and Erin Cherovsky. Jorgenson, Emma Murphy, and Cherovsky each had multi-hit games for the Spartans while Van Ess, Cherovsky, and Kaminski each posted two RBI. Cherovsky handled things in the circle, allowing no runs on five hits while striking out nine.

Spartans soccer shuts out Vikings

Emi Kuhn's brace paced the Luxemburg-Casco soccer team to a 3-0 win against Denmark on Tuesday.

Kuhn tallied her goals in the 63rd and 65th minutes and provided the assist on Aaliyah Wallace's score in the 68th minute. The Spartans' offense hassled Denmark's Lucy Swetlik all night, forcing her to make another 15 saves. Luxemburg-Casco received a clean sheet from Teagan Gunderson as she collected nine saves.

Spartans golf takes links in Clintonville

The Luxemburg-Casco golf team returns to the course on Tuesday for more Northeastern Conference action.

At last week's meet at Hilly Haven Golf Course in De Pere, they finished on top of the leaderboard with the low score of 342. Senior Josh Parins paced the Spartans with his performance, shooting the team's lowest score of the meet at 76 strokes.

Clintonville, Denmark, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Little Chute, Marinette, Oconto Falls, Waupaca, and Wrightstown at Riverside Golf Course in Clintonville. The tee time is set for 10 a.m.

Spartans baseball pull away late from Tigers

The Luxemburg-Casco baseball team scored six runs in the final three innings to beat Wrightstown 8-2 in NEC action on Thursday.

After the Tigers scored in the second inning on a Mason Driscoll double, Landon Derenne helped the Spartans take the lead on a single that ended up scoring two runs. The Spartans built on their lead again in the fifth inning on a two-run single from Ethan Werner to make it 4-1. Singles from Carson Blohowiak and Derenne, along with a fielder's choice off the bat of Landon Derenne, brought home another three runs before the two teams traded runs in the seventh inning.

Blohowiak led the Spartans with two hits while Landon Derenne led the way with three RBI. He and Jacob Coisman combined to strike out 10 Tigers in the Spartans while allowing four hits and two runs (2 ER).

Weather permitting, the Spartans will travel to Brussels to face Southern Door for a 4:30 p.m. matchup.

Spartans fall to Irish on the road

Two goals was too much for the Luxemburg-Casco soccer team to overcome in its 2-1 loss to Freedom Thursday evening.

After a scoreless first half, the Irish opened the scoring in the 54th minute when Addison Conrad scored on Ashley Fameree on a Elle Lezotte feed. Shortly thereafter, Lezotte would get her own goal. Emi Kuhn tallied the Spartans' lone goal in the 72nd minute. The Spartans' Teagan Gunderson made three saves in the 1st half while Fameree collected four saves in the second half. Freedom's Sophia Johnson made eight saves in the win for the Irish.

Trimburger leads Spartans track at relays meet

It wasn't for a relay, but Mason Trimburger posted the best afternoon for the Luxemburg-Casco track team at the Green Bay Preble Relays meet on Thursday.

Trimburger set a personal record in the 300m hurdles to win the event that featured athletes across all three division. He also took third in the 110m hurdles. Bryce Dhuey also posted a top-5 performance in the discus. For the girls, McKenna Rank (high jump) and the SMR 1600m relay both finished in the top five. Both teams finished in sixth place overall.

Luxemburg-Casco track heads to Preble for relays meet

The Luxemburg-Casco track team hits the track again on Thursday for a more unique format at Green Bay Preble High School on the city's east side.

The Spartans will compete against Appleton East, Appleton North, Bay Port, Campbellsport, Green Bay Preble, Kohler, Ripon, Sheboygan North, and West De Pere in the relays meet. The first events begin at 4 p.m.

The teams are coming off a third-place finish for the girls and a second-place finish for the boys in their first NEC meet of the season on Tuesday.  For the boys, Kyan Lynts (3200m), Mason Trimburger (300m hurdles), and the 4x800m relay won their respective events. The girls saw Claire DuChateau also win the 3200m along with several other top three performances.

Spartans soccer powers past Trojans in second half

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team ended its game on a hot streak, scoring all of its goals within 17 minutes of each other during a 5-0 win over Green Bay Southwest.

Diem Bonness registered a brace within five minutes of each other with goals in the 49th and 54th minute. After Emi Kuhn scored her own goal in the 58th minute, Aaliyah Wallace registered her own brace in the 60th and 66th minute after assisting on the previous three goals.

Both goalkeepers posted clean sheets in their respective halves with Ashley Fameree posting zero saves (1st half) and Teagan Gunderson collecting two saves (2nd half). The Trojans' Josephine Giannunzio had seven saves in the loss.

Spartans softball slides past Tigers

Two runs by Wrightstown made things interesting but it was not enough to knock off Luxemburg-Casco on the softball diamond in a 4-2 decision.

The Spartans struck first with Kate Van Ess scampering home on a passed ball before a sacrifice bunt by Alayna Deprez scored two runs to make it 3-0 in the fourth inning. Important insurance would come in the fifth inning when Rylan Kaminski scored on a passed ball. Two runs did not spoil Erin Cherovsky's day in the circle, allowing two runs (2 ER) on five hits while striking out five in a complete game effort.

Spartans baseball bit by Tigers

An early 4-0 hole was too deep for the Luxemburg-Casco baseball team to dig out of on Tuesday night as they fell to Wrightstown 7-1.

The Tigers scored in each of the first three innings, including a sequence in the third inning where one run was scored on a wild pitch, and the second was tallied on a sacrifice fly. The Spartans finally broke through in the fourth inning when Jacob Coisman singled in Gage Delcore. Coisman and Delcore accounted for the Spartans' only two hits on the afternoon. The Tigers answered that run with three of their own in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.

Aidan Humphreys stymied the Spartans all afternoon long, allowing just the one run (0 ER) on two hits while striking out 13 batters. He also went 3-3 at the plate. Landon Derenne took the loss, allowing four runs (4 ER) on six hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Spartans softball handle Marines

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team only needed five innings to get past Marinette on Monday night 17-1.

The Spartans scored at least five runs in three of the innings, including a seven-run third inning. While they benefited from five Marines errors, the Spartans' hit parade saw seven players get multiple hits, including three apiece from Brianna Bray, Erin Cherovsky, and Riley Westlund. The game's biggest blow came in the third inning when Westlund clobbered a grand slam to make it 10-1 Spartans. Cherovsky also went deep on a solo shot in the fifth inning to spark that rally. Emma Murphy also had a productive day at the plate, going 2-3 with three RBI in the win. Kaya Bodam's home run in the bottom of the first inning off of Kate Van Ess was the lone blemish for the Spartans.

The Spartans are back at it Tuesday afternoon when they host Wrightstown 1t 4:30 p.m.

Spartans baseball hold off Wolves

A five-run rally nearly spoiled the day for the Luxemburg-Casco baseball team, but they were still able to secure the 8-6 win over their STH 54 rivals Algoma on Monday.

Scoreless through two innings, the Spartans did the bulk of their damage in the third inning when the scored five times, highlighted by a RBI single from Landon Derenne and a sacrifice fly from Jacob Coisman. The two teams traded runs in the fourth inning before a Reagan Doell double scored two more in the fifth. That is how it would stay until the seventh inning when the Wolves staked their claim to a possible non-conference victory. Sparked by three errors, Jacob Massey's single made it a five-run frame with the tying run on base. An Alex Gonzalez to Carson Blohowiak ended the threat and gave the Spartans the nerve-wracking victory.

Ethan Werner posted two hits and one RBI while six other Spartans tallied at least one knock. Massey registered a two-hit game for the Wolves, accounting for two of the three RBI.

The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday when they play Wrightstown at home (4:30 p.m.), while the Wolves head north to face Gibraltar (5 p.m.).

Spartans golfers play second NEC meet Tuesday

The Luxemburg-Casco golf team will play its second Northeastern Conference meet on Tuesday morning, this time taking place at De Pere's Hilly Haven Golf Course.

Last week, the Spartans boasted a strong performance in their conference opener at Mid-Vallee Golf Course in De Pere. The Spartans took third in the meet, scoring 343, 14 strokes behind first-place Marinette. Senior Josh Parins was the top-performing Spartan, scoring an 18-hole score of 76, two strokes behind Oconto Falls Kadyn Riel to come in third place. The Spartans placed three golfers in the top 20.

Clintonville, Denmark, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Little Chute, Marinette, Oconto Falls, Waupaca, and Wrightstown will also compete at the meet that begins at 10 a.m.

Spartans baseball downs Gladstone

A six-run seventh inning ensured Luxemburg-Casco would leave Mauston with a perfect mark after beating Gladstone 10-0.

The Spartans struck first in the opening frame thanks to an error, but they would not tack on more runs until the fourth inning when an error and a dropped third strike ruled in their favor. A wild pitch in the sixth inning made 4-0 in favor of the Spartans before batting around in the seventh. RBI singles from Eli Derenne, Noah Chervenka, Gage Delcore were the blows the Spartans delivered in the lopsided inning.

Derenne and Chervenka each had two hits and contributed two RBI to the effort. Jacob Coisman earned the win on the hill for the Spartans, scattering four hits and striking out seven in six innings of work.

Spartans softball avenges loss to Denmark

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team avenged Thursday's loss to Denmark by beating them 3-1 on Friday.

The Vikings struck first in the opening frame, but the Spartans tied the game up in the second inning thanks to a run-scoring triple by Alayna Deprez. A Reese Westlund homer in the fourth and an Emma Murphy run-scoring single proved to be the difference needed to split the week series with the Spartans' nemesis. Erin Cherovsky earned the win pitching all seven and allowing just one run (0 ER) and three hits while striking out two.

Spartans baseball sweeps first day of Mauston Tournament

After suffering a loss to Marinette on Thursday, the Luxemburg-Casco baseball team collected two wins in Mauston on Friday before concluding the weekend set against Gladstone on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

In their opener against Northland Pines, a bases-loaded walk was all the Spartans needed in their 1-0 win. Landon Derenne and Ethan Werner managed the only hits in the game. The Spartans also drew two walks and reached once on an error. They didn't need much because Noah Chervenka was enough for the Spartans. He allowed no runs on three hits and two walks while striking out six batters.

In their 4-1 victory against Lake Mills, Werner's double tied the game at one in the bottom of the third before the Spartans broke the tie on a run-scoring error. Spartans baseball fall to Marines

The Luxemburg-Casco baseball team found themselves chasing the Marinette Marines all afternoon long in its 6-2 road loss on Thursday.

The Marines were up 3-0 after the first inning, and it wasn't until the Spartans connected on back to back doubles from Landon Derenne and Ethan Werner. The positive momentum was short-lived as the Marines plated another three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-1 advantage. The Spartans scored once more in the sixth inning on a double play ball hit by Caleb Radart.Derenne and Werner each had two hits the Spartans loss. Derenne took the loss for the Spartans on the mound, allowing six runs (6 ER) on 11 hits and a walk while striking out three.

Spartans softball flummoxed by Vikings

A fifth-inning single by Riley Westlund was all the Luxemburg-Casco softball team could muster in a 3-0 loss to Denmark at home on Thursday.

Vikings hurler Shaelyn Kraschnewski hassled Spartans batters all afternoon, sitting down 12 straight to start the game and faced only 21 batters on the day. Despite having 10 hits off of Spartans pitching, the Vikings weren't able to cross home plate until Macey Mleziva singled in a run to end the fifth inning. The Vikings added two insurance runs to beat their NEC rivals ahead of a rematch Friday afternoon in Denmark.

Spartans golf kick off season against NEC foes

The Luxemburg-Casco golf team competes in its first meet of the season on Tuesday if recent exploits by Mother Nature allow it.

The Spartans took fifth in the Xavier Regional last season, with James Glampe and Josh Parins qualifying for the sectional meet. Both failed to qualify for the state meet but finished in the Top 25 of the 70-plus golfer field.

Tuesday's meet at Mid-Vallee Golf Course in De Pere is an NEC affair, so it will feature Clintonville, Denmark, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Little Chute, Marinette, Oconto Falls, Waupaca, and Wrightstown when the teams tee off at 9:30 a.m.

Eli Derenne knocked in the Spartans' first run of the season with a single in the fourth inning to tie the game at one. Spartans softball tames Huskies

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team won its second game in as many days on Friday, demolishing New Holstein 11-1 in five innings.

After allowing a run in the top of the first inning, the Spartans plated crooked numbers in each of the first three innings, including three in the first and third frames. In the first inning, they did so with just one hit as they scored on a pair of bases-loaded walks and a fielder's choice. In the second inning, two errors pushed two runs across for the Spartans. After a sacrifice fly drove in a run in the third, Kate Van Ess delivered the game's biggest blow up to that point, driving in two runs on a single. In the fifth inning, the Spartans forced the mercy rule by scoring on a fielders choice, a bases-loaded walk, and a game-ending RBI single off the bat of Kacie Jorgenson.

Rylan Kaminski was a perfect 3-3 at the plate while Van Ess and Alayna DeDeprez each registered two RBI in the Spartans win. Van Ess finished the game in the circle, allowing one run on three hits while striking out five.

Cherovsky deals in Spartans softball' opening day win

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team used a strong start by pitcher Erin Cherovsky to top Oconto Falls 2-1 in its first game of the season.

After both teams were scoreless in the first two innings, the Spartans cracked the scoreboard first when Rachel Kaminski stole two bases and scored on an error by the catcher to make 1-0. The two teams traded runs in the sixth inning when the Panthers' Amelia Danielczak scored on a sacrifice fly to tie the game only to see the Spartans get the lead back when Riley Westlund scored on a passed ball.

Erin Cherovsky went the distance from the circle, allowing three hits and one unearned run while striking out five Panthers. Her counterpart, the Panthers' Randi Metzler, was nearly as good by allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out four across six innings. Kaminski, Westlund, Alayna Deprez, Kacie Jorgensen, and Kate Van Ess registered the hits for the Spartans.

The Spartans' goalkeepers weren't tested; otherwise, Ashley Fameree posted the clean sheet in the first half with no shots on goal. Teagan Gunderson allowed two goals but faced only one other shot on goal. In contrast, Mariner stopped 15 of the 16 shots on goal she faced from the Spartans.
