Spartans cross country gets underway Friday

The long wait to compete in a race ends on Friday when the Luxemburg-Casco cross country team travels to Marinette for its first meet of the year.

It has been since last fall since many of the runners on the team have had a chance to compete since COVID-19 wiped out most if not the entire track season this spring. Head coach Katie Waege says the team was excited to hear that there would be in fact a season this fall.

With the season comes a lot of changes in order to keep people as safe as possible. For starters, many of the traditional invitationals have been canceled. The team will instead compete against a couple of teams each time out, starting with Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Marinette, and Oconto Falls on Friday. Waege says there are other changes in store for the season as well.

The race is scheduled for 4 p.m. You can listen to our full interview with Waege on our podcasts page at NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com
