Summer Recharge

Local student athletes and coaches are using their summer to recharge for the upcoming school year. At Luxemburg-Casco student athletes, ranging between middle school to high school ages, are working in a speed and agility class to get better for the next season. LC Athletic Director Jenny Bandow says that with a break from the classroom, student athletes are using their time to get better speed and agility to improve for their respective teams. Bandow says that sports means a lot to the community and that it is great to see the students working to get better. She went on to explain that student athletes need a break from the classroom to reboot their brains, and sports are a great way to learn other life lessons and get the break needed.

Bandow is currently finishing up the rest of the necessary duties from the spring of 2019 season and then will begin the bigger projects for this upcoming fall. Student athletes will begin their five contact days in the upcoming weeks, with practices starting a few weeks after July 4.

Luxemburg-Casco boys soccer looks for third straight year of improvement

The Luxemburg-Casco boys soccer team has improved their record in each of the past two seasons. After the Spartans finished 2016 with a 3-12-4 record, they improved that record in 2017 and finished even better last season going 8-7-1 overall. L-C will try to reach the heights they got to in 2014 when they made it all the way to the state semifinals. That team was led by prolific goal-scorer Austin Nellis. He was the correct answer to Thursday's trivia question.

Congratulations to Mike Glish who answered the question correctly! He is the winner of a $25 certificate to The Rendezvous in Luxemburg.

Will unknown quarterback situation lead to more running in 2019?

Luxemburg-Casco's Garrit Aissen has led a potent Spartan passing attack the last two years. Aissen graduated in 2019 so he will have to be replaced this upcoming season. That could lead to a more running-centric offense like they had in 2016. That year Jon Deprey led the team in passing with only 556 yards passing but he rushed for 1,924 yards. He helped lead the Spartans to a Northeastern Conference championship and an 11-1 record.

Jon Deprey was the correct answer to yesterday's trivia question. Congratulations to Bob Naze for answering it correctly! He will win a $25 certificate to The Rendezvous in Luxemburg.
