The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans beat the seven-team field with 212 points with second place Brillion trailing with 186. The past two team state champions at Division 2, Freedom and Wrightstown, took third and fourth respectively.

Five wrestlers qualified for next week's sectional meet at Seymour. Easton Worachek and Max Ronsman won their brackets while Kyle Kroll, Travis Legrave, and Caleb Delebreau took second place.

Luxemburg-Casco's wrestling team will have a tough hill to climb at this year's Division 2 regional.

The Spartans are ranked number 1 in the state heading into the tournament but will have to navigate four other ranked teams (Brillion, Denmark, Freedom, Wrightstown) if they want to advance as a full squad. Nine Spartans wrestlers are currently ranked in the top 12 in the state with one other listed as an honorable mention.  Head coach Chas Treml has been especially proud of his freshman this year and how well they've been able to compete not just at a high school level, but also during a pandemic year. He's also looking forward to seeing what his seniors can do as they approach the last weeks of their career.

Luxemburg-Casco hopes to make it two wins in a row when they host Clintonville Friday night after beating Two Rivers Thursday night 68-51.

The Spartans were down by one entering the second half, but ended up nearly doubling up Two Rivers in the second have 40-22. Cam Daffner scored 16 and Spencer Salta added 11, but only four other players scored and none of those registered more than eight points.

The Spartans will have the quick turnaround on Friday when they play the Truckers, who have lost three games in a row including Tuesday's 56-38 defeat to Fox Valley Lutheran.

Fox Valley Lutheran's offense was just too much as Luxemburg-Casco fell to the Foxes 63-39 on Thursday night. 

The Foxes were nearly perfect from the free-throw line (11-12) and 10 three-pointers to outscore the Spartans by double figures in each half. The Spartans still got great scoring from Taylor Thiry who collected 19 points in the defeat. The Foxes were led by Emily Jaenke and Lydia Feidt, who combined for 41 points and nine three-pointers.

Luxemburg-Casco hopes to build off of Tuesday's win when they travel to Appleton on Thursday to play against Fox Valley Lutheran.

The Lady Spartans won their third game in their last five when they toppled Seymour on Tuesday 71-63. Lauren Adams poured in 28 points and Taylor Thiry scored 23 in the victory as the pair continue to average in double figures in scoring this season.

The Foxes had similar success in their matchup against Seymour on Saturday, but more recently lost to Oconto Falls 49-42. Emily Jaenke and Lydia Feldt each scored 10 points in the defeat.

Luxemburg-Casco will leave NEC play for the night when they head to Two Rivers for a 7:15 tip on Thursday.

The Spartans got over two close losses at the end of last week and blew past Marinette 74-39 in a game heard on 96.7 WBDK.  Ryan Robillard is a top-five scorer in the NEC with 17.6 points per game while Peyton Mrotek leads the conference in assists with 5.8 per game.

Two Rivers come into the matchup 5-9 on the season, having lost five of their six games so far in 2021. Bryce Peterson and Can Daffner did most of the heavy lifting in a 62-51 loss to Chilton earlier this week as the duo combined to score 40 points.

The Luxemburg-Casco girls pulled out a big win on the road by defeating the Seymour Thunder 71-63 on Tuesday.  The Spartans turned a 33-33 tie at halftime into a comfortable eight-point win margin for the win by outscoring the Thunder 38-30 in the second half.  Lauren Adams led the way for the Spartans scoring 28 points by hitting six three-pointers.   Complementing Adams’ outside shooting was Taylor Thiry who scored 23 points with most of those coming in the paint.  The Spartans also shot a respectable 70 percent from the charity stripe by going 14 out of 20.

The Luxemburg-Casco had ten players get in the scoring column as the Spartans cruised to an easy 74-39 victory over the Marinette Marines in Luxemburg on Tuesday night.  The Spartans held the Marines scoreless in the first five minutes and took an early 8-0 lead on the way to their eighth win in the North Eastern Conference.   

Ryan Robillard and Logan Doell scored ten of their game-high 15 points, respectively in the first half as the Spartans took a commanding 40-20 into halftime. 

Coming out of halftime, Coach Tyler Thrune substituted freely as the Spartans ended up with four players scoring in double figures.  Jonas Otradovec added 12 points and Blake Yadodinski chipping in ten more along with numerous rebounds.  Peyton Mrotek scored eight points while holding Marine’s leading scorer Aisaia Polazzo to just five points.

Luxemburg-Casco (8-6, 8-7 overall)  will now travel to Two Rivers for a non-conference game on Thursday night before returning to NEC action on Friday.

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team looks to avenge an early-season loss when they host Waupaca Monday night.

The Spartans have split their last six games including a 66-41 loss to Wrightstown its last time out. The Comets had similar results against the Tigers on Saturday, losing that game 75-39. In the two teams' last matchup, the Comets escaped with a 51-49 win over the Spartans. Taylor Thiry scored 24 points for the Spartans, but Olivia Levine and Seattle Lettau combined to score 26 points in the Comets' victory.

The first of two games in a row begins Friday for the Luxemburg-Casco boys' basketball team as they travel to Fox Valley Lutheran to take on the Foxes.

The two teams are relatively neck and neck in the NEC standings with the Foxes holding a slight advantage. The Spartans won their last time out with a 74-53 win over Waupaca while the Foxes are enjoying a two-game winning streak. The Spartans took round 1 from the Foxes earlier this season 51-40. Three Spartans players scored in double figures in the season opener, led by Peyton Mrotek's 21 points. The Spartans are looking to start another streak after breaking its string of five losses in a row in a season that started with six consecutive wins.

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling staked their claim to the top of the Division 2 rankings with a win over Wrightstown in a quadrangular meet that also featured Pulaski and Ashwaubenon.

The Spartans topped the Wrightstown Tigers 29-25 thanks in part to earning some bonus points in key matches. L-C wrestlers won the first five matches with Easton Worachek (120lb) and Max Ronsman (126) securing major decisions that would loom large later on. After Wrightstown got on the board in two straight matches, the two traded decisions, majors, and pins the rest of the way. No pin was bigger than the eventual dual winner by Travis LeGrave, who pinned Owen Harvey in a quick 30 seconds to secure the dual victory.

For the Spartans it is Issac Jerabek (8th, 106), Easton Worachek (3rd, 113), Max Ronsman (5th, 132), Luke Shefchik (HM, 138), Hunter Joniaux (9th, 152), Isaac Blohowiak (8th, 160), Ryan Routhieaux (HM, 170), Kyle Kroll (9th, 220), and Travis Legrave (3rd, 285). The Tigers' ranked wrestlers include Everett Kolz, (12th, 106), Kaden Verbeten (9th, 132),

Ashwaubenon (Connor Ramage at 195 and Nathan Moynihan at 220)  and Pulaski (Ashton Kapla at 113 and Mason Wells at 195) each have two wrestlers ranked in Division 1. The Red Raiders did tip Bay Port a week ago 33-32, which was about a week after Bay Port beat Luxemburg-Casco in a quad meet.

The streaky Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team look to avenge an earlier season loss to Wrightstown at home Thursday evening.

The Spartans are on their third winning streak of at least two games after defeating Denmark 62-57 earlier this week. The Tigers come to Luxemburg fresh off a 48-39 win over Fox Valley Lutheran to ride their current winning streak to seven.

The Spartans fell to the Tigers 62-44 in the season opener on November 24th. Taylor Thiry scored 18 points for the Spartans while no other player scored more than eight points in the loss. Samantha Kiel (20 points) and Leah Lemke (19 points) led the way for the Tigers.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys broke a five-game losing streak with a convincing 74-53 road victory over Waupaca Tuesday night in a North Eastern Conference game.  The Spartans (6-5) took the series this year having beaten the Comets at home 69-36 in late December.    After taking a 31-20 lead at halftime, the Spartans cruised to an easy win to get back in the victory column.  Ryan Robillard led the way for the Spartans with 22 points and Logan Doell adding 15 points.  The Spartans will host Fox Valley Lutheran Thursday night in a rematch from a game earlier this year when the Luxemburg-Casco won 51-40.

It has been a tale of two seasons for the Luxemburg-Casco boys' basketball team heading into its matchup against Waupaca on Tuesday night.

The Spartans have nearly matched their season-opening six-game winning streak with a five-game run of losses in recent weeks. Its last time out featured a 63-46 loss to Wrightstown despite Ryan Robillard registering 12 points along with Peyton Mrotek.

The Comets could be the cure to the Spartans' woes as the look for only their third conference win of the season. A nine-point first half buried the Comets in a hole they could not recover from in their 51-26 loss to Little Chute last Friday. Led by Hunter Marcom's 17.8 points per game, the Comets lost their early season matchup to the Spartans 69-36.

The Luxemburg-Casco Lady Spartans defeated the Denmark Vikings 62-57 Monday Night in a North Eastern Conference battle that went right down to the wire.  The Spartans overcame foul trouble and responded to a couple of comebacks by the Vikings to claim the victory. 

Jumping to an early 17-7 lead, the Spartans saw Denmark make a run to cut the lead to halftime to four points at 28-24.  Spartans’ leading scorer Taylor Thiry picked up her third foul halfway through the first half and was forced to the bench with only five points.

After building a 12 point lead in the second half, the Spartans let the Vikings back in the game after Thiry committed her fourth foul with just a few minutes into the half.  Denmark took a 43-42 lead before the Spartans were able to retake command and hang on for the win.

Lauren Adams came up big scoring 16 of her game-high 27 points in the second half for Luxemburg-Casco.  Alex Wech contributed 15 points and numerous steals, while Thiry finished with 12 points despite being hampered by the foul trouble. 

Denmark was led by Olivia Lamack who scored 15 points with several drives to the hoop, keeping the Vikings within striking distance.

Luxemburg-Casco (8-5, 8-6 overall)  will now host Wrightstown on Thursday night and look to revenge a 62-44 loss to the Tigers in the season opener.

The Spartans led 23-22 at the half and only allowed five points the rest of the way to break their losing streak. Taylor Thiry paced the Spartans with 23 points while Lauren Adams pitched in another eight points. Morgan Trzebiatowski scored 11 points in the loss for the Mustangs. 

The Luxemburg-Casco boys' basketball team saw their second-half struggles against Wrightstown continue Friday night, falling to the Tigers 63-46.

Coming out of the first half down by just six, the Spartans were outscored 36-25 to drop a fifth straight game. Ryan Robillard and Peyton Mrotek could muster only 12 points apiece to lead the Spartans in the loss. The hero from their last meeting, Jack Van Zeeland stayed hot from behind the arc knocking down five threes like his teammate as the pair each scored 17 points for the Tigers.

It has been a season of streaks for the Spartans, which has lost four straight since winning their first six games. The team has not been the same since it fell short in its 81-71 loss to Wrightstown on December 29th. In that game, the Spartans had a 41-34 halftime lead only to see the Tigers erupt for 47 points in the second stanza. Ryan Robillard scored 29 points for the Spartans, only to be eclipsed by the Tigers' Jack Van Zeeland who knocked down nine threes en route to a 37 point game.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan girls dropped a tough-fought 55-41 North Eastern Conference game Thursday night in Oconto Falls.  The game was much closer than the final score as the Spartans were within three points as late as the final four minutes, trailing 39-36.  

The game started out ragged as both teams struggled with turnovers and missed shots.  Oconto Falls did open up a 14-7 lead midway through the first half before the Spartans went on  an 11 to three run to take an 18-15 lead.  The Spartans managed to take a one point lead into intermission at 26-25.

The second half started out slowly as Luxemburg-Casco held the ball the first few positions to try to bring the Panthers out of their 2-3 zone that caused fits for the Spartans' offense.  A back-and -forth second-half saw both teams battled with foul trouble and turnovers before Oconto Falls pulled away late hitting some key free throws at the end.

Oconto Falls was led by McKayla Goebel who scored a game-high 23 points and went 15-20 from the free throw line.

Lauren Adams scored 16 points for the Spartans with four three-pointers, while Taylor Thiry managed 13 points despite being double-teamed most of the night. 

Luxemburg-Casco (6-5, 6-6 overall) will now travel to Denmark on Monday night to take on the Vikings.  The game will be broadcast on 96.7 FM WBDK and streamed NewRadioSportsNetwork.com.  Pregame is set for 6:45 pm with the game scheduled to start at 7:15 pm.

Luxemburg-Casco Spartan girls basketball looks will take on the Oconto Falls Panthers in a Northeastern Conference game Thursday night.  The Spartans (6-4, 6-5 overall) defeated the Panthers last month 47-46 last month.  L-C hopes to bounce back after being dismantled by Freedom 78=13 this last Tuesday.  Oconto Falls (4-4, 4-5 overall) is coming off a 55-44 victory over Waupaca.  Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call starting at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show and tip-off set for about 7:15 p.m on 96.7FM WBDK.  The game audio can also be streamed on NewRadioSportsNetwork.com.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans wrestling team will be the host for a four-team meet on Thursday featuring one other local squad.

The Spartans will first wrestle conference foe, Oconto Falls, at 4:30 p.m. before battling Southern Door at 6:00 p.m. and Peshtigo at 7:30 p.m. The team won its last dual against Freedom 44-20 thanks to a key eight weight class stretch that saw the Spartans get pins from Travis LeGrave, Jake Jandrin, and Tyler Derenne. The Spartans are currently ranked third in the state in Division 2 with eight wrestlers in the top eight.

Oconto Falls has four ranked wrestlers in Graeson Pankratz at 113 pounds, Luke Trepanier at 132, Aidan Stary at 170 pounds, and top-ranked Clayton Whiting at 182 pounds. 

Southern Door also has four ranked wrestlers with Griffin Slezewski and Kyle Conard at 145 pounds, Grant Englebert at 160 pounds, and Brodie Overbeck at 285 pounds. The Eagles come into the quad meet undefeated in duals.

Peshtigo has no ranked wrestlers and lost all three of its duals last week, including a 42-30 decision to Kewaunee.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan girls fell hard to the Freedom Irish Tuesday evening 78-13 in a North Eastern Conference matchup in Freedom.  Freedom took a commanding 41-11 lead into halftime and never looked back by outscoring the Spartans 37-2 in the second half.  The Irish was led by Division I recruit Calle Genke who led Freedom with 16 points.  Luxemburg Casco was paced by Taylor Thiry with seven points and Lauren Adams with four.  

The Luxemburg-Casco boys' basketball team will look to get their season back on track when they travel to Denmark Tuesday night for an NEC matchup.

An undefeated start as slipped to 6-3 as the Spartans have lost their last three games to Wrightstown, Freedom, and Little Chute. As heard on WBDK on Saturday, the Spartans saw a nine-point lead slip away when their 64-61 loss to the Mustangs their last time out.

The Vikings come into the game trending the opposite direction as they have won their last five games, including a 67-55 win over Brillion their last time out on December 29th. They have not lost since they lost to consecutive L-Cs (Luxemburg-Casco and Little Chute in the middle of December. Donavan Short scored 42 points in the 69-62 loss to the Spartans that saw Ryan Robillard put up 22 points.

Tip is set for 7 p.m.

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team hopes to forget its matchup less than a week ago when they travel to Freedom to take on the Irish on Tuesday.

Last Tuesday, Taylor Thiry was the only Spartans player to reach double figures and the defense gave up over 40 points in the second half as the Irish won handily 74-29. The Spartans beat Marinette 53-40 on Friday night to build some positive momentum while the Irish have been idle ever since. Both the Spartans and the Irish are in the top three in the Northeastern Conference in terms of record, but it is the Irish that sits on top of the leaderboard with a perfect 9-0 NEC record.

Tip is set for 7 p.m.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans lost a heartbreaking 64-61 thriller to the Little Chute Mustangs Saturday afternoon in Luxemburg.  Clutch three-point shooting and free-throws allowed Little Chute to overcome a nine-point deficit in the second half to claim the victory. 

Both teams used a suffocating zone-trapping defense to limit offensive opportunities all night long.  The game started out slow with the Spartans being held to a single point in the first four minutes but trailed only 4-1 at the time.  The game stayed close all half as the teams went into intermission tied at 28 apiece. 

Spartan junior Logan Doell caught fire in the second half scoring 18 of his game-high 23 points to push Luxemburg-Casco’s lead to nine points with over ten minutes to play.  Little Chute battled back and controlled the tempo the rest of the way to secure the win.

Luxemburg-Casco (6-3) had a few opportunities to tie or take the lead at the end, but turnovers doomed a last-minute comeback.  Little Chute (6-3) had four players in double figures with Kade VanAsten leading the way with 13.

The Spartans will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they travel to Denmark to take on the Vikings.  

Down 20-11 at halftime did not discourage the Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team from coming back to defeat the Marinette Marines 53-40.

Sam Pieper kept the Marine afloat in the first half, scoring 12 of her team-high 17 points in the opening stanza of play. The Spartans likewise struggled from the field with Maggie Hanmann's two three-pointers only saving grace.

The Spartans' offense woke up in the second half thanks in part to Taylor Thiry. After missing five free throws in the first half, she rebounded in the second half to make six from the charity stripe to add to her team-high 16 points. Lauren Adams scored 11 points and Alex Wech pitched in another 10 points in the win.

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys’ basketball team will host the Little Chute Mustangs Saturday afternoon in a North Eastern Conference game rescheduled from earlier this week.  The Spartans (6-2, 6-2 overall) are coming off a 70-51 loss to Freedom on Thursday while Little Chute (5-2, 6-3 overall) last played prior to Christmas, losing to Wrightstown 57-45.  Luxemburg-Casco is led by Ryan Robillard who is averaging 20.2 points per game.   Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call starting at 2:30 p.m. with the pregame show and tip-off set for 3 p.m. on 96.7FM WBDK and streaming worldwide at NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com. 

The Luxemburg-Casco girls basketball team heads north Friday night to take on the Marinette Marines.

The Spartans are looking to break a two-game losing streak after falling to Freedom earlier this week on WBDK 74-29. Taylor Thiry and Lauren Adams were the only players to score more than two points in the contest. The loss took away from a great start to the season that saw the Spartans win five of their first seven games.

The Marines come into the game 0-9 on the season including a 53-23 loss to Clintonville earlier this week. Samantha Pieper leads the Marine offense with 9.8 points per game, but the team as a whole has failed to crack the 30 point mark five times this season.

A 42-point explosion by the Freedom Irish in the second half helped down the Luxemburg-Casco boys' basketball team Thursday night 70-51.

The Spartans entered the frame up 33-28, but then the Irish's offense caught fire. The Irish drilled 10 three-pointers, including four from Jaden Behnke. He led the Irish with 14 points on the evening with Austin Balck and Trevor Rupiper also reaching double digits. Ryan Robillard led the Spartans with 14 points and Ian Doell pitched 12. Both players knocked down multiple three-pointers of their own in the loss.

The Spartans will play their rescheduled game against Little Chute on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. Paul Schmitt and Matt Piesler will have the call on 96.7 WBDK and streaming worldwide at NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

Freedom took the first three matches, but the Luxemburg-Casco wrestling came back strong to take the dual 44-20.

Starting at 160 pounds, Isaac Blohowiak and Ryan Routhieaux limited the damage by losing a pair of three-point decisions before Freedom doubled up the score when Patrick Moore pinned Isaac VandenBush in 3:22. The Spartans would take points in the next eight matches to build a lead they would not relinquish. Joseph Chervenka began to flip the script at 195 pounds when he earned a  8-2 decision over Freedom's Lucas VanGrinsven by forfeit. Travis LeGrave pinned Hayden VanCamp in under two minutes before the line flipped down to 106 pounder Isaac Jerabek, who earned at 21-6 technical fall.  Jake Jandrin (113 pounds) pinned Landon Wautier in under a minute :54. and Tyler Derenne did the same to Ben Wagner in under two minutes. With forfeits awarded to Kyle Kroll and Easton Worachek sprinkled in, Max Ronsman got the last win of the streak with a 5-0 decision over Carsten McHugh.  Tristan Thiry's 9-7 regular decision win over Jack VanRossum was sandwiched between a pair of major decisions earned by Freedom to end the evening.

The Spartans wrestle next week against Oconto Falls at 6:30 p.m.

Two of the NEC's top teams in recent memory will square off on the mat Thursday night when Luxemburg-Casco hosts Freedom.

A combined 15 ranked wrestlers will battle it out as the Spartans are ranked third as a team behind fellow NEC rival Wrightstown and the Irish are an honorable mention.

The Spartans are coming off a 40-30 loss to Bay Port over the holiday break. Issac Jerabek (106 lbs) and Easton Worachek (113 lbs) earned pins in the loss.

The Irish finished off 2020 with a conference win over Marinette 63-15. Carsten McHugh, Ben Bredael, Reece Manteuffel, Troy Nabbefeld, and Hayden VanCamp got pins in the win.

JV matches are set to start at 6 p.m. with the varsity wrestlers beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Freedom Irish proved on Tuesday night why they are the number 1 ranked team in the state by crushing the Luxemburg-Casco Lady Spartans 74-29 in North Eastern Conference basketball.  The Irish used a suffocating defense that forced numerous turnovers all night long and took a commanding 33-14 lead at halftime.  The Spartans battled the entire game, but foul trouble hampered Taylor Thiry most of the evening and L-C could not stop the potent Irish offense.  Freedom had four players score in double figures with guard Gabby Johnson leading the way with 17 points and a terrific floor game.  The Spartans only had two players score more than two points with Thiry tallying ten points and Lauren Adams adding nine.  Freedom (9-0, 11-1 overall) remains undefeated in the conference and now takes a commanding three-game lead in the NEC.  Luxemburg-Casco (5-3, 5-4 overall) will now look to bounce back when they play Marinette Friday Night. 

Luxemburg-Casco Spartan girls basketball looks to knock off the undefeated Freedom Irish in a Northeastern Conference game Tuesday night.  The Spartans (5-2, 5-3 overall) are coming off a 55-49 loss to the Valders Vikings in a non-conference game last Tuesday, while the first-place Irish (8-0, 10-1 overall) dominated the Marinette Marines 73-14.  Callie Genke leads Freedom with 17.1 points per game.  The Spartans are led by Taylor Thiry who is averaging 19.1 points per game.  Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call starting at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show and tip-off set for 7:15 p.m on 96.7FM WBDK.  The game audio can also be streamed on NewRadioSportsNetwork.com.
