Spartans wrestling captures Bi-State title

Luxemburg-Casco wrestlers are coming back with plenty of hardware after winning the Bi-State Classic in LaCrosse on Thursday.

 

The Spartans scored 227 points, passing Zumbrota-Mazeppa on day two and finishing ahead of second-place Lodi. Max Ronsman and Easton Worachek led the way with 3rd place finishes.

Spartans start day two of Bi-State Wrestling Classic in second

Six Luxemburg-Casco wrestlers still have an opportunity to win some hardware this weekend.

 

Luxemburg-Casco finished Wednesday just a half-point behind Minnesota's Zumbrota-Mazeppa in the Division 2 standings at the Bi-State Classic being held at the LaCrosse Center. Caleb Delebreau and Max Ronsman each won their quarterfinal matches while Easton Worachek, Ryan Routhieaux, Hunter Joniaux, and Jake Jandrin will start Thursday in the wrestle back rounds.

Spartans lose close battle with Phantoms

The Luxemburg-Casco boys basketball team traveled to the Kress Center on the campus of UW-Green Bay to take on the West De Pere Phantoms as part of the Sundrop Shootout Tournament on Tuesday night. 

 

The Spartans battled hard and kept it close for most of the first half before West De Pere went on a scoring run to take a 34-29 lead going into halftime. Luxemburg-Casco then worked their way back to take a one point lead with 8:30 to go in the game, before ultimately giving that lead back and losing by a score of 71-69. 

 

The Spartans will be in action again at the Kress Center on Wednesday December 29th when they take on Green Bay Southwest with tip set for 5:00 PM. 

Spartans to face Phantoms at Kress Center as part of Sundrop Shootout

The Luxemburg-Casco boys basketball team will be heading to the Kress Center on the campus of UW-Green Bay to play the West De Pere Phantoms as part of the Sundrop Shootout on Tuesday December 28th.

 

The Spartans have won back to back games including a high scoring shootout against Kewaunee by a score of 81-72. Thus far the Spartans have been using a balanced offensive strategy to propel them to victory and are being led by Peyton Mrotek who is averaging 20 points per game, and Jack Rollin who is averaging 10 points per game. 

 

The Phantoms have had success in the early part of their season as well winning 6 of their first 8 games. West De Pere has also been in some shootouts of their own, including their last matchup with Plymouth where they posted 100 points in a 29 point victory. The Phantoms have 4 players averaging double digit points per game. Nate Heikkila is averaging 18 points per game, Ethan Heck is averaging 12 points per game, Kaden Hannula is averaging 11 points per game, and Danny Campbell is averaging 10 points per game. 

 

Tip is set for 8 PM from the Kress Center in Green Bay.

Lady Spartans cruise to win over Little Chute

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan girls ended the year on an up note, as they defeated the Little Chute Mustangs 51-31 at home.

 

  The Spartans jumped to a 26-17 lead at halftime and pulled away in the second half for the 20 point win.  Taylor Thiry led the Spartans with 15 points and Lauren Adams added 12.  Little Chute was paced by Kim Guillen.

Spartans withstand Storm in shootout on WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys defeated the Kewaunee Storm in a high-scoring non-conference matchup Tuesday night in Kewaunee 81-72.   The Spartans trailed early on as the Storm’s defense forced turnovers and hit some key shots.

 

Luxemburg-Casco opened up a double-digit lead late in the first half and carried a 38-28 lead into halftime.

 

The Storm cut the lead to just four points early in the second half, but the Spartans opened up a 21 point lead with help from a balanced scoring attack and pressure defense. 

 

Kewaunee was able to cut the lead down to just seven points with under :30 seconds to play, but L-C prevailed in the cross-county rivalry game.

 

Peyton Mrotek and Evan Dahlke led the Spartans with 14 points each, while Caleb Blohowiak came off the bench to score 13 points.  Jack Rollins tallied ten points and Owen Deprez chipped in nine more as the Spartans had four players in double figures.

 

The Storm were led by Ben Heim who scored 25 points with four three-pointers and Cameron Cullen added 19 more, all in the second half.

 

Luxemburg-Casco (3-3) will now play two games in the holiday tournament next week at the Kress Center, before getting back into North Eastern Conference action on Thursday, January 6 at home against Freedom in a game that will be broadcast on 96.7 FM WBDK and the New Radio Sports Network.

 

 

Spartans girls host Little Chute

 It will be a battle of L-Cs Tuesday night in girls' basketball as Luxemburg-Casco hosts Little Chute.

 

The Spartans could not dig out of an early deficit as they lost to Clintonville last Thursday 68-58. Taylor Thiry is leading the Spartans as she is averaging a double-double every night with 19 points/12.3 rebounds each night. The Mustangs are mired in an offensive slump as they wade through a four-game losing streak. After losing to Oconto Falls last week 56-21, the Mustangs have failed to crack more than 25 points in five of their six games.

Spartans boys travel to Kewaunee on 104.1 WRLU

A county rivalry will be renewed Tuesday night on the NEW Radio Sports Network when Luxemburg-Casco travels to Kewaunee for non-conference boys' basketball action.

 

The Spartans come into the matchup looking to even up their season record after getting their second win of the year against Oconto Falls 83-43. Four different players reached double figures against the Panthers, led by Peyton Mrotek's 18 points. He narrowly missed a triple-double as he also collected 11 rebounds and eight assists. 

 

The Storm saw their three-game winning streak snapped last Thursday when it narrowly lost to NEW Lutheran 59-57. Ben Heim scored 18 points and Cameron Cullen added 12 points in the loss. Heim is among the Packerland leaders in points and assists per game.

 

Tim Kowols and Tanner DeGrave will have the call on 104.1 WRLU and NEWRadioSportsNetwork beginning at 7:00 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7:30 p.m.

Spartan wrestling takes 12th in Minnesota Christmas Tournament

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan wrestling team finished the two-day tournament with an 12th place finish on Saturday.  In the 36 team field,  the Spartans scored 101 points and had three wrestlers that finished in the top eight places.   Max Ronsman claimed fifth in the 138 pound class with a decision, while Easton Worachek and Caleb Delebreau took seventh place with pins in the 126 and 132-pound class, respectively.

Spartans girls fall to Truckers

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team could not erase an 11 point halftime deficit as they lost to Clintonville 68-58 on the road.

 

Lauren Zwirschitz gave the Spartans fits all night long as she collected 33 points in the Truckers' victory. Two other players scored in double figures for the Truckers. Lauren Adams and Taylor Thiry both scored 21 points in the loss for the Spartans. 

Spartans boys visit Oconto Falls

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans travel to Oconto Falls on Friday in search of their second NEC victory.

 

The Spartans were edged out in their last game against Clintonville 61-58 to drop them to 1-2 in the NEC. Peyton Mrotek leads the Spartans in all major categories with 19 points, seven rebounds, and four assists a game. The Panthers are still looking for their first NEC win, losing to Little Chute their last time out 58-35.

Spartans wrestling topples Denmark ahead of Christmas tournament

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team kicked off their trip to Minnesota on a high note with a 59-6 win over Denmark Thursday night.

 

Starting the night at 182 pounds, the Spartans were down early as the Vikings won three of the first four matches by decisions at the heavier weights before running the table the rest of the way beginning at 106 pounds. Jake Jandrin, Isaac Jerabek, Easton Worachek, Max Ronsman, Tristan Thiry, and Hunter Joniaux all picked up pins that led to the rout. 

 

The Spartans now head to Rochester, Minn. for the Minnesota Christmas Tournament featuring teams from multiple states. Competition from Wisconsin includes Holmen, Kaukauna, Oconto Falls, and River Falls.

Spartans girls truck over to Clintonville

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team will hop back into NEC play Thursday night when they travel to face Clintonville.

 

The Spartans took a hard loss last week when they fell to Fox Valley Lutheran 54-36. Taylor Thiry leads the team with 19 points a game while Lauren Adams is averaging approximately 10 points a game. The Truckers have three players averaging at least eight points a game. They lost their last matchup to New London 61-29.

Spartans wrestling hosts Denmark

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling looks to continue their winning ways Thursday night when they host Denmark.

 

The Spartans captured the top spot in last weekend's Battle on the Bay Tournament hosted by Bay Port with four guys wrestling in the finals (Jake Jandrin 2nd 106, Blakelee Bastien 2nd 120, Easton Worachek 2nd 126, and Max Ronsman Champion 138). The tournament win comes after nine straight dual meet wins to start the season including shutouts of Waupaca and Fox Valley Lutheran. The latest state rankings have nine wrestlers ranked (106-Jake Jandrin-9th, 113-Isaac Jerabek-HM, 120-Blakelee Bastien-6th, 126-Easton Worachek-2nd, 132-Caleb Delebreau-6th, 138-Max Ronsman-2nd, 152-Hunter Joniaux-5th, 160-Ryan Routhieaux-5th, & 170-Trace Schoenebeck-7th) and the team just behind Amery. 

 

Since the Spartans will head to Minnesota this weekend for their annual Christmas tournament trip, varsity matches will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Spartans boys host Clintonville

The Luxemburg-Casco boys' basketball team will stay at home on Monday to face the Clintonville Truckers.

 

The Spartans picked up their first win of the season last week when they sank the Marinette Marines 74-48. Peyton Mrotek led the way with 18 points in the victory. The Truckers lost their last matchup to the NEC-leading Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes 77-42 last week. Both the Truckers and the Spartans have identical 1-1 marks in the NEC.

 

Gametime is set for 7 p.m. in Luxemburg.

Luxemburg-Casco captures first in "Battle on the Bay" wrestling tournament

Luxemburg Casco won the Battle on the Bay 2021 held at Bay Port High School on Saturday.    The Spartans scored 321 points edging Mukwonago who finished with 314 in the 24 team tournament.  Southern Door finished in 21st place with 97 points. 

Spartan's Max Ronsman placed first in the 138 pound class, while Jake Jandrin placed second in 106 pound class and Blakelee Bastien finished second in the 120 pound class.  Easton Worachek also finished second in the 126 pound class.

L-C girls outfoxed by Fox Valley Lutheran

The Lady Spartans fell behind early and never recovered in its 54-36 loss to the Fox Valley Lutheran in NEC action. The Foxes were able to hit five three-pointers while the Spartans could not connect from distance. That helped the Foxes get out to a 33-24 first-half lead.  Taylor Thiry led all Spartans with 11 points while Alayna Feldt paced the Foxes with 22 points. Two other players pitched in 12 points for the Foxes in their victory.

Spartans wrestlers pick up win vs. Brillion

Luxemburg-Casco's lower weights had to carry the bill for the wrestling team as they beat Brillion 40-26 as a part of a quad meet Thursday night.

 

The Lions won the first five matches to give themselves a 21-6 advantage early. The Spartans would capture nearly every match after that with Blakelee Bastien, Easton Worachek, Caleb Delebreau, Max Ronsman, Tristan Thiry, and Trace Schoenebeck collecting bonus points in their matches.

 

The Spartans were also scheduled to wrestle Fox Valley Lutheran and Waupaca, but no results were submitted to local media. The Spartans will join Southern Door at the Battle on the Bay on Saturday.

Luxemburg-Casco wrestling heads to Brillion for quad meet

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team looks to continue their perfect start to the season on the road at Brillion.

 

The Spartans will face the host Lions as well as NEC opponents Fox Valley Lutheran and Waupaca. The first matches are set to begin at 5 p.m.

 

Last weekend, the Spartans won five of its matches at the Spartan Duals, beating the likes of Holmen, Bay Port, Oshkosh West, Port Washington, and Sheboygan Falls. Jake Jandrin, Easton Worachek, Blakelee Bastien, Max Ronsman, Trace Schoenebeck, and Ezra Waege all went 5-0 on the day. 

Spartans boys host Marinette

The Luxemburg-Casco boys' basketball team looks for their first win of the season on Thursday night when they stay home to face Marinette.

 

The Spartans' Peyton Mrotek is on the leaderboard for all three major categories, leading the team with 19 points a game and second in rebounds (6 RPG) and assists (2 APG). The team lost their last game to Pulaski 67-59 after going into the half with a three-point halftime lead. The Marines are 1-4 on the year with Jake and Sam Sommerfeldt combining to score more than 25 points a game, which accounts for 47 percent of the team's scoring. They lost to Fox Valley Lutheran 69-42 their last time out to fall to 0-2 in the NEC.

 

The opening tip is set for 7 p.m.

Spartan boys topped by Pulaski

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys basketball fell to Pulaski on the road 67-59.  The Spartans held a three-point lead at intermission but were outscored 47-36 in the second half.  Peyton Mrotek led the Spartans with 21 points while Evan Dahlke added 14.  Pulaski was led by Derek Shaw’s 28 points.  

Lady Spartans topple Waupaca

Luxemburg-Casco Spartan girls defeated the Waupaca Comets on Tuesday 55-36.  Lauren Adams and Taylor Thiry led the way combining for 37 points and five three-pointers.    The Spartans jumped to a 27-15 lead at halftime and never looked back.  CeCelia Harms had scoring honors for Waupaca with 11 points.   The Spartans are now 2-1 in the Northeastern Conference. 

Spartans girls host Comets

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team hopes to continue its NEC winning streak when Waupaca comes to town on Tuesday.

 

Behind 19 points from Taylor Thiry, the Spartans dispatched Denmark in the NEC matchup 52-39. That evened their conference mark at 1-1 The Comets come into the game winless in the NEC. Their offense never got going as they lost to Clintonville last week 55-20.

 

Tip is set for 6 p.m.

Spartans boys look for first win in Pulaski

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans boys' basketball team hit the road Tuesday night to face Pulaski.

 

Peyton Mrotek tried to do his best to carry the Spartans but it was not enough as Fox Valley Lutheran 97-58 behind two 20-plus point performances by Foxes players. The Red Raiders beat Antigo 65-43 in its last game two weeks ago.

 

Tip is set for 7:15 p.m.

Second half woes sink Spartans boys vs. Fox Valley Lutheran

Fox Valley Lutheran's offense in the second half was clicking as it went on to beat Luxemburg-Casco 97-58.

 

The  Foxes were able to extend a 10-point halftime lead by outscoring the Spartans 51-20 in the second stanza. They had two players break the 20 point threshold with Josiah Butler scoring 29 and Issac Knoll connecting for 24. Peyton Mrotek's 18 points was the only double digit performance for the Spartans in the loss. 

Spartans girls get conference win over Denmark

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team clamped down in the second half to pick up the 52-39 victory over Denmark.

 

The Spartans outscored Denmark by 12 points in the second half to win its NEC matchup after holding onto only a one-point halftime lead. Taylor Thiry led the Spartans with 19 points while Lauren Adams added 11 in the victory. The Spartans were more proficient from behind the arc, knocking down five three-pointers compared to just one for the Vikings.

Spartans wrestlers get victory over Marinette

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestlers got off to a good start on Thursday with a convincing win over Marinette 63-12.

 

The Spartans commanded the lower weights where with an exception or two either collected a fall or a forfeit. As a team, the Spartans had six falls and a technical fall and only lost three matches on the night.

After narrowly missing out on another trip to the team state tournament, Luxemburg-Casco takes the mat again Thursday night against a conference opponent.

 

The Spartans likely return two of their state medalists from last year. Easton Worachek broke through at his second state tournament with a title at 106 pounds while newcomer Max Ronsman captured second place at 126 pounds. The Spartans took fourth in their sectional after winning their regional, a feat in a non-pandemic year that would have landed them in the team sectional.  

 

The first whistle is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Luxemburg-Casco girls looks for first victory

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team hopes to score their first win of the season Thursday when they host one of their biggest rivals.

 

The Spartans face Denmark after falling to Green Bay Southwest 74-51 earlier this week. Taylor Thiry led the way with 22 points while Natalie Neubert chipped another 16 points.  The Vikings are an even 2-2 on the season, feasting on Packerland teams like Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door while losing its conference game against Freedom and Denmark Tournament participant Two Rivers. The tip is set for 7 p.m.

 

In women's college basketball, Green Bay heads east for a pair of games beginning at Robert Morris at 6 p.m. Thursday.
